Decent food. Wide open space. Dogs allowed. Pretty empty on a weekday night. Staff were nice. Nice and new!

Sterling Street Brewery is a craft brewery that opened in Clinton, Massachusetts in October 2020…read more It was founded by longtime friends Brian Mason and Jesse Tarbell. Friends since high school, Mason and Tarbell have shared a passion for quality craft beer for quite some time. After years of visiting various breweries with their families and friends, the partners began serious talks about opening their own brewery. Not only did they aspire to open a brewery that featured a variety of beer styles, but also a family friendly taproom. Mason has an extensive background in homebrewing, and both partners have a background in business. Clinton was ultimately chosen as the location for their brewery because it lacked a family friendly brewery. A second location opened at Pathway Devens (a biomanufacturing campus operated by King Street Properties) in May 2024. I recently visited Sterling Street Brewery's original Clinton location for the first time. It was also the first time that I was meeting up a with a large group of New England-based craft beer bloggers/enthusiasts who frequently have meet-ups at breweries. The taproom was decent-sized with maybe 10 large tables available for seating. There were an additional 20 or so tables outside, but it was still a little too cold outside to utilize those. I would imagine that the patio area is popular during the warmer months. After grabbing some food from a food truck, I headed to the bar. I ordered a taster flight that featured "Newfound Pale" (Citra Pale Ale), "Otherwise" (New England IPA), "Michael Diamond" (New England IPA), and "Midnight Marauder" (Stout). I enjoyed them all, but I was most impressed by the Pale Ale. I later enjoyed full pours of "Gingerbread Snuggles" (Winter Ale) and "Double Sabotage" (Double New England IPA). The beer was solid, the space was nice, and I had a blast meeting and socializing with so many other local craft beer enthusiasts. I give Sterling Street my seal of approval and I hope to check out their Devens location in the future!

While the tables can be somewhat communal, I chose to be a bit more antisocial and just share a table with my dog. It should be noted that winds in the area can knock down their umbrellas or take your food off the table so be careful. There was a food truck outside serving Mexican food that was pretty good but aggressively priced. It did go well with the IPAs. Overall, this is a fairly nice place to enjoy a lazy afternoon. I'd come back if I was in the area.

Literally everyone coming in had one or two kids with them. I never thought on a Friday evening there would be so many kids at a brewery! The beer was right up my alley. They had a tiramisu beer called coffeemisu and it was actually fantastic. Sadly I do not care to drink beer in a daycare setting. I raised my children already and never brought them to a bar or brewery until they were 21. It is bizarre to me that parents think this is normal and businesses who do not sell food allow it. There was a pizza truck outside, it was mid at best(not part of the brewery). $18 for a pie and nothing to write home about. The dead band was alright, we only stayed for 3 songs because of the atmosphere. Nobody asked me but I'm giving some "bar rescue" advice: You are not making money when children are taking up seats in your bar. Adults who want to drink were struggling to find seats and leaving while children were sitting at tables and running all around. This may be how you want to run your business but it makes no fiscal sense at all. Although I enjoy the beer I will not be back and I'm sure they won't care!

Thirsty robots needs robots!…read more It's Saturday and we head in about 30 minutes after they open. We are going to be at least 12 people. My daughters volleyball team is meeting up for lunch with their families before we head to a local tournament. Now- We go to breweries ALL the time. We haven't really faced this issue before but: they only had 2 people working and had 2 really small ovens. They cannot handle the demand of people or food orders. It took about an hour for us to receive a mac and cheese, a pizza, an order of pierogi's and a quesadilla. My husbands food never hit the table (a chicken, bacon, ranch wrap.) Other families who ordered right after us- it took an hour and 20 minutes to get the food. Pizza- My family said it was ok Pierogi's- (potato & cheese) was there any cheese in it? A lot of potato (pro tip: ask for some liquid cheese served with the pretzels for dipping!) Mac & Cheese- they put nutmeg in it. my opinion: nutmeg doesn't belong in mac & cheese. quesadilla- (cheese) HUGE portion! extra crispy cheese on the edges. I like this style! Then... the line! This is the food ordering, beer ordering and bill pay line. My husband was in line for over 15 minutes to pay the bill. I actually don't even know exactly how long because I had to leave him there to pay while I got the kids to the tournament! It's got a decent location, good size, cool little outdoor area, cool art on the walls and their food was decent but they just can't handle a crowd. Underprepared.

Service at tables is sub par, slow and not managed well. Not one visit. Multiple visits. We've been there more than a dozen times. It's such a unique place that I want to succeed desperately. Sometimes it is full and super busy but overtime. Some of these issues will catch up with them. It's a management issue. Food is consistent, tasty pub food at a relatively good price point. The challenge is food getting to the table in reasonable timeframes, hot and on time (apps not arriving at the same time as main course). There is an issue with the clarity of the service model. This past Sunday evening is a great example. Not busy. Server more focused on closing at 5:45pm than our table. Didn't see for long periods. We were at a table next to the bar and I saw our beers and wine.l sit there. I ended up getting them myself. One of our three appetizers came out ahead of time the other two arrived with dinner and they were warm at best. When dinner did arrive, the onion rings were cold. There seemed to be a manager, more concerned about busing our table and less about our status. In a past visit, a manager acknowledged the challenges we had and offered a gift certificate. I said it wasn't necessary. I just want to provide the feedback because I love the venue, the beer and the pub food. What is necessary is how fundamentally look at how they serve their customers consistently.

Wings: Good on quantity, but kinda soggy and not much texture, as if they were quickly reheated frozen tenders that just happened to have bones. Burger: A little better. Nice double smash with just enough crust and a moist interior. Nothing special beef blend-wise. Puffy bun. Minimal melt on the cheese. Fries: An easy $1 add-on to the burger but very very processed, and the coated kind to boot.
