We've not been here for over a year, but decided to give True West another try, it being a local town business. It was a quiet evening. Our server came promptly and got our beverages quickly. After that, not so good. Our food took longer than we thought it would, since the kitchen wasn't busy. After it arrived, we were very disappointed. The burger was well-done instead of medium, and had cheese, which was NOT asked for. The "TOTS" that seem to be a popular item tasted like Ore Ida tater tots, were cold, and there was no condiment service (salt/pepper) on the table. Carnitas tacos. Hmmm. I expected the corn shells to be crunchy, but they were moist, and the filling was a drab lump of something gray. Cold as the tots. We just ate because we didn't have the time to wait for 2 meals to be recooked. Sorry, but we'll enjoy other local eateries in town. read more

Nice looking brewery/restaurant with seating at bar stools, low tops, high tops and outside. Good variety of beers. Relaxed, comfy space that's the antithesis of more corporate-feeling outfits with the same target audience. Parking can be tough at times, but there are free spaces on the street and in the lot to its right that also includes underground spaces. -- Buffalo Wings: Offered in 1- and 2-pound portions, with a steep price for the 1-pound and a steep drop in per-pound price for the 2-pound. My small order had 8 pieces with a very thin coating of Buffalo-ish sauce-- not as spicy or as vinegary, but reasonably piquant and tangy. Not much crisp, but extremely plump and juicy chicken meat underneath. So a mixed bag of flavor and texture, but overall, good. -- True West Burger: Sort of a thick burger, sort of a brioche bun (closer to a better, fresher McDonald's), with vegetation significant part of it. Choice of cheese. Cooked to my requested medium rare, yielding juices. Overall, good burger for its class, though for $22, maybe it should be compared with classier ones. -- Fries (included with the burger): Frozen, somewhat artificial tasting, and a coating of some sort that held in the heavy dose of salt (like pretzel sticks), as if salted even before frying. -- Beers: Plenty of styles and plenty within each style to choose from. I really enjoyed my peachy Pit and Peel New England IPA and liked the Ruckus as well. Service was outstanding. My server Mariana was outgoing, very familiar with both the food and drink offerings, and checked back often. This was probably the determining factor for this tossup between 3 and 4 stars getting nudged to the 4. If it were an option, more of a 3.5. And if you're similarly torn, having some of the best ice cream in the state a few doors down afterward at Westside Creamery might tip the scale for you (literally and figuratively). read more

Stopped in during a rainy afternoon for a break and some beer and a snack. They actually have a full menu so you can eat dinner here, but either way you'll be happy. They have a lot of taps, probably around 20, and a pretty standard bar-food menu so you know what you'll get. We just got a side of tots, which were very good, and the beers, most of which I thought were pretty good in the sampler flight that I put together. The room is big and has plenty of seating and some TVs for watching sports. There's parking out front and nearby, and the building doesn't really look like a brewery/taproom from the street, but it's a good stop when in the area. read more

This place consistently has average food and wait staff who are ghosts whom you seldom see during your dining experience there..., Extremely dirty table/seats & floor, long wait getting you a drink once your seated, no water or checking to see if your food is actually ok once its finally delivered..., basically seems like kids running the place with no leadership on basic restaurant operations. Also..., if you wanty dessert..., be prepared to wait thirty plus minutes with no update from the ghost wait staff if its actually ever going to come to your table. Review for a group on August 13. Having been a local patron for 15+ years, I have observed a gradual decline in the food. Salads with just iceberg lettuce, minimal Caesar dressing, and 'out of the box' croutons made for a bland entree. The pulled pork Mac and Cheese had very dried-out pork and lacked cheese. The service was meh, mostly focused on selling more, vs. doing the basics like clearing away used dishes. Too many rookies, not well trained. Beer selection has fallen off as well; I really miss Colonial Gold. Too many IPA's. Turnover with the brewmasters? Mixed drinks are small and expensive. Ambiance is fine, can get loud. My family held a surprise birthday party for me 20 months ago, and everyone loved the buffet entrees, etc. The standards have slipped a lot since then. And I have witnessed this decline on several prior visits since. When I asked my crew about the night, they all agreed that Tavern in the Square (Littleton) was much better for comparable entrees and service. In Acton, Rapscallion is a much better choice for a brewpub for food, beer, and service. We are dropping this venue from our monthly meeting restaurant rotation. Too bad. read more

This is a nice place to come and sit, I'm glad that it's here in town. I came yesterday evening. The beer is good in the service for beer and food is fast. The food itself was just OK. I ordered the Nashville chicken sandwich, which was an incredibly teeny tiny piece of chicken. The fries I'm thinking are regular frozen fries. Our server was friendly, but really exhausted us with trying to upsell. She asked us about ordering appetizers about 1600 times. After a while, I started to wonder if it was required? I have never been here once when I have been spoken to within 15 minutes of sitting down. I'm often nearby for a family activity so I make the mistake of coming and then sitting for 20 minutes without even being offered a drink. It's so consistent that it's really notable. It just seems like something that could be easily fixed. The food is always okay, nothing great. Not my first choice but service could definitely be improved!! read more

This has been our go to burger place as of late. Great portions with each meal. The nachos are to die for, but the burgers are a 10/10 for sure. We usually order take out and the food is hot and ready when I arrive but the two times we've gone it I've found the staff to be very friendly and quick to attend us and the decor very brew puby if that is a thing. Disappointing. Beer was very good, but food and seevice were not. Understaffed; nachos thrown together in unwieldy manner, with too large chunks of iceberg lettuce and little else. Fish in the fish and chips was of a low quality, overly dark in color -- maybe refried or prepared in old oil, but in contrast fries looked and tasted just fine. Pasta special was okay, basically mac and cheese with some peas added. Staff was pleasant enough but clearly stressed and over-extended, slow in responding, even though place was not even half way full. I appreciated that our server went up and drew our beers from the drafts herself, as the bartender was presumably otherwise occupied. Brewery with lots of food options, both traditional and more eclectic. I came for dinner on a Saturday night. It was busy but not overly crowded. Indoor and outdoor seating. We sat inside as it was pretty hot out. I ordered an aperol spritz and the Bangkok street noodles. The aperol was lovely. Not too sweet and just the right strength. The Bangkok street noodles theoretically should have been right up my alley - noodles and veggies in a Chinese-inspired sauce. The sauce, however, was incredibly salty and overpowered all the other flavors. I enjoy salty flavors but this was just too much. This place is a SOLID 2-3 stars. Nice decor. Took about 10 minutes to get my initial order taken. Ordered a drink and watched the remaining liquid from my finished drink evaporate before the server came back to see if I needed anything else. Took a solid 10 minutes to get my second drink-- a margarita. There was so little alcohol in both drinks that I'm convinced I was more sober after drinking them than when I arrived. As for the food, the chicken and corn chowder was delicious but contained only two tiny bites of chicken and a piece of potato with a black spot so large that it looked like an onyx stone (I put it to the side). The Chicken & Biscuit sliders had a great sauce and tender chicken but the biscuits were a bit hard and stiff for my taste. I ate the chicken and apples out of the sliders and left the biscuits. Server was great when she appeared. The service was "meh," but to be fair, our server also seemed to be pulling hostess duty. Had dinner here last night and had a terrible experience. Ordering with our server was a challenge with poor results. A passion fruit margarita came out as a pineapple margarita (where the overall flavor was off, definitely too much lime juice). Ordering the menu-listed option of a buffalo cauliflower wrap took multiple attempts and significant pointing on the menu. The server did not think a side came with the sandwich and the menu had to be pointed to as a reference again. And ordering the Baja fish tacos without the jalapeño mayo turned into an indication to bring out plain, dry fish tacos on uncooked corn tortillas (the red cabbage noted on the menu also could not be delivered for reasons I don't understand). I do have a sensitivity to capsaicin (aka spicy peppers including jalapeño) which we made the server aware of, but I won't die if I have any. I'll be uncomfortable, but will most certainly live. So I was frustrated when while serving me bland fish on uncooked tortillas, the server said "here you are, exactly ask you asked." No ma'am, I most certainly did not ask for this. When I originally ordered, I tried asking for the crema that is listed with the salmon tacos to come out instead of the jalapeño mayo. When this request made the server question if I wanted the salmon tacos, I passed and hoped for the best. When the bare fish arrived, I asked for them to be made as listed on the menu and was told the cook refused fearing retribution for any allergy that was stated (which meant the cook was content to serve bland food with no vegetable on the plate). When I stated that it was a sensitivity and not an allergy and assured the waitstaff I would not die, that had zero impact on the situation (because clearly the restaurant staff knows my sensitivities better than I do and I cannot be trusted). When I tried to work with the restaurant's concerns regarding allergies and hypothetical future dead patrons, I asked for lettuce, tomato, and onion to be served with the bare fish. I was provided lettuce, tomato, and a green sauce (which was ok), but no onion even though there is onion listed on their burgers. Onions are not spicy peppers. I do not understand why onions could not be provided. I do not understand why the red cabbage originally listed with the fish tacos could not be provided. I do not understand why the corn tortillas could not be cooked. None of these ingredients are related in any way to a sensitivity to capsaicin (aka spicy peppers). Then our server disappeared for a significant period of time. We saw her on her phone behind the bar. Someone else eventually picked up the credit card that had been on the table for nearly 10 min to check us out and allow us to leave. Management was no where I could identify, and thus it's no surprise that there was no compensation for this frustrating and disappointing experience. I would recommend that you avoid going here if you have any food allergies or dietary needs. This restaurant, kitchen and serving staff alike, cannot handle any requests that to make any adjustments or accommodations. And you'll pay full price for terrible food and a worse experience. read more

It could've been worse I guess. But we did not get side plates so we had a full plate of nachos and fried pickles and nothing to put them on. Our waitress did not come to check on us and when she held the device out to tip, she stared at it forcing me to tip either 20, 22, or 25%. For food I highly recommend the blackened salmon sandwich - I've had it a few times and it's always cooked to perfection! Really like the vibe of this place and it's a great local spot. The beer is pretty good and cocktails were great. The food is decent bar food but nothing spectacular. Service was prompt and super friendly. We got seated in the back room which was cool and behind a fake door of oak barrels but no one else was in there when we were so it wasn't particularly vibey that night. The beer was equally as good as the food, the brewer Todd really knows what he's doing. My server was Cailin and she was exceptional, a straight 10 out of 10. Food was quite good. After sitting ten minutes or so we were given water. Ten or fifteen more minutes later our waitress appeared and took our orders. Ordered a beer, "we'll start with the fried clams and calamari appetizer", and our entrees. You probably guessed it - all the food came out together. My wife's Irish stout didn't impress her. The app was good, cooked a little beyond what I would have preferred, to the detriment of the bellies. My wife enjoyed her salmon. My steak tips were cooked perfectly medium rare, flavor was great, but having paid a surcharge to have them "smothered" in bleu cheese and caramelized onions, I can't imagine anyone describing them as smothered. I haven't been here since pre-Covid, and I find it to be the way I left it - good food, but service and details have never been what it should. read more

We had an awesome experience this weekend! My family and I recently found this place, in search of a restaurant with an outdoor pet-friendly patio because my sister was in town with her small well-behaved havapoo. To our pleasant surprise, we also learned that it's a Buffalo Bills bar! As my dad is from Buffalo and my mom also from upstate New York, we were thrilled! We started by sharing a really great kale Caesar salad and some dry rub chicken wings. We all chose different beers to try. I had a BBQ pork sandwich with a side of mac-n-cheese (wagon wheels!). My sister had a blackened salmon sandwich, which she said was good but fair warning: it's very big, and she added a side of buffalo chicken mac-n-cheese, which is great but very spicy! Of course, my parents both had the beef-on-weck. It's not really the same as the real thing but a good alternative to traveling all the way to Buffalo LOL I also need to mention that unfortunately they had no record of our reservation when we arrived, even though we had called a couple days earlier, which was frustrating, but thankfully they were still able to find us a table outside. Came here a few weeks ago for our anniversary. When checking in with the host, a busser crashed into my spouse and spilled what appeared to be melted ice cream all over their clothes and crutches. We immediately had to leave so they could change and shower. After cleaning up, we came back and had dinner. At the end of the meal, the server said the busser left some money so we could have dessert. Unfortunately, due to an allergy, we couldn't have anything on the menu. No other consideration was given. It's a pretty poor practice to make an employee to pay out of their pocket for a mistake like this. I cannot imagine what other poor working conditions these people are forced to deal with. It's also pretty poor practice to show little compassion after publicly embarrassing a patron. We tried contacting the brewery privately about the incident, but they have failed to respond. True West is a true gem of a Brewery and eatery. As a frequent explorer of MA breweries I'm always on the lookout for a great new craft beer and culinary experience. If that describes you, you will want to put Acton MA in your GPS and make your way to this delightful destination. Solid beer selection and flights that provide 6 generous samplings from their malty menu. Presentation is half the experience, and they have cool little goblets from which to lap their lagers and sip their stouts. I got the California burger with a side of buffalo mac and cheese. You will not be disappointed by this combo. And you will not leave hungry. Flavor explosions could likely be heard from a half mile away. The mac had moxie! Waited almost twos hours for 1 appetizer and a shared meal. Mind you, it was a SLOW Monday night. Pork nachos were so incredibly dry that they were almost inedible. Meat tasted like it was 5 days old with how dry it was. The only moisture on the nachos was from the canned pinto beans. Chicken sandwich had absolutely no flavor and was very dull/dry. Drinks were good, but service was so slow it was hard to order another round. Given how slow the service was and the poor quality of food, very disappointed and will not be returning. read more
