Went again Saturday night. My daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter, and his mother were in town, on their way back to Seattle for Thanksgiving. Everyone always finds something they love at Sterling's, our go to place. Service was extremely attentive, as usual. I have been here 3 times now and the breakfast is always perfect! We have always got great seats and the waitresses are friendly and very fast! I'm not sure about their lunches, but my theory is that places with the best breakfasts don't always have good lunch/dinner food.... The building seems new and the inside has a great atmosphere. Patio seating overlooking the river is nice. Ordered the salmon eggs Benedict. The "hollindaise" sauce served with this was just terrible. It was a yellow nacho cheese colored sauce and tasted as bad as it looked. It drenched the entire dish you have to hunt for the poached eggs and salmon and muffin under it. It was so salty I literally had to drink 7 glasses of water. (Same with the grits I ordered with my salmon Benedict). I'm glad I only ordered 1 vs 2 because it was so salty I couldn't imagine having 2. The poached egg was cooked all the way through essentially making it a hard cooked egg vs a poached egg. I definitely don't recommend this entree. The table all had something different which was okay at best. I definitely don't recommend, or plan on returning. Maybe for some cocktails on the patio overlooking the river but as far as food goes, i wouldn't eat. The service was great though. read more

Its been a while since I gave 5 stars. (lol) The reason being is because out of all the times I've been here, it has been amazing! Nothing has gone wrong, my order always turned out right, my server was always attentive. Last night, I tried their Steak and Salad Bar (All you can eat salad bar + 7oz Steak with one side dish for around $11) Their Salad Bar is very very nice, there's a lot of variety. The food is decent as I only tried their breakfast. However, this review is in regards to the hostess and service. First, I walk in and head to the podium to be seated but end up standing there when a hostess comes to podium, fluffs some papers and walks away. Then, the main hostess comes to the podium and just stands there quietly which makes our stand-off awkward, so after 15-seconds I have to tell her "It's just one." I have to say, that interaction left me unwelcome. I worked as a waiter for 10-years and had to do hosting, serving and busing all at once. This employee only had one job - greet customers and ask how many. Instead, l was surprised at the unprofessionalism. Secondly, is it protocol to give the bill with your main course? From a customer point of view, I find it rude and rushed. Lastly, what's with giving an option for 2-tips (Chef or Server or both). That's just uncomfortable. We have always been fans of this restaurant until today! Let me start by saying our waitress, Tia was wonderful and if they had let me just give her the tip, I would have. Start, the soup I ordered, clam chowder, was as tepid as a baby's bottle! The potatoes were dehydrated in it and had not been cooked enough to rehydrate. They are lucky I wasn't the health department. There were four diners at our table. We were there for steaks. Half of them had to be sent back as they were way over cooked. The baked potatoes were not cooked all the way through. In order to get the bread we always got with our meals we had to ask. Our waitress explained they had changed things. We also had to ask for the seasoned pepper that was always on the table before. Then dessert time came. My boyfriend and I went to the G way Sterling's today. I looked over the bill and was charged $.50 for a pitcher of warm tap water. I requested it that way but really you are gonna charge me for it???? I was told it takes power to warm the water up so they are charging for it..... well it takes power to make it cold and for heat in the building and warm water to wash the dishes and hands....... its really petty to charge for water to drink with my over priced bowl of soup and small side salad for $7. I can say I wont be going there again it is so ridiculous to charge for effin water!!! read more

Menu is large and over whelming. Salad bar is expensive even if you get it with a meal,but that did not discourage me from getting it. They were really packed on Sunday morning serving breakfast until two. I did return a few times while working near by. With the atmosphere and initial service, I was expecting the food and drinks to match but it wasn't up to par. My old fashioned was overwhelmed by club soda (who puts that in an old fashioned???). The bartender insisted he was correct but did say he could do it differently if I requested. I ended up getting a Manhatten which also fell short of my expectations but was glad they replaced my drink. I ordered one of the seafood dinners that had the same results as the drinks. If you just want something to eat and drink, it's a convenient walk from the hotel next door but nothing special. Also, two separate tips??? I've been here a few times. Once for a quick lunch during the work week and most recently on a Sunday after church. The salad and soup bar is very good. The back patio has a great view of the Columbia and all the servers I've had have been very attentive and kind. The steak I ordered was pretty tough and flavorless, but that's to be expected I guess when it's only 13.99 for steak and salad bar. I'll go back. The restaurant is in a beautiful location on the river. The wait staff are delightful but the food was not great. I had grilled jumbo shrimp that were small, chewy and over cooked. Has anyone heard, is there a gravy shortage in the Tri-Cities or maybe in Washington state? I just had biscuits and gravy at, Sterling's in Richland on GW way. The was not enough gravy to even cover the two biscuits. Also, most places has sausage in the gravy. NOT here, you have to order the sausage separate. Of course you have to pay extra for the sausage. Nice trick!! I don't think I will be returning soon. O' not to pile it on, but a few weeks ago I had four strips of bacon and toast. Better than an Outback but not by much, cuts of beef are second rate, seasoning of dishes are bland. Service is decent, dining area is open thus making it noisy. Not sure if they are trying to make a Sports Bar atmosphere or fine dining. Don't expect quiet, fine dining. read more

I am very disappointed in this restaurant. They are celebrating their first year of being open today. The salad bar is excellent. But, the last several times we have eaten there the flies have been really bad. This time was no different. The food has become mediocre (other than the salad bar). The gravy is fake, as well as the potatoes. I showed the manager the picture of the flies & he just apologized. He didn't offer to comp our meals or anything. I didn't want a free meal but it is like restaurants don't realize how terribly unsanitary flies are or they don't care. I know there are machines they can buy to kill them. So Sterling's, break down and buy a machine! Even the food in the salad bar has to have been contaminated because no one is there to swish the flies away. The manager said they spray every morning. Well obviously morning is not enough. We probably won't return to Sterling's again. This has happened several times, we've had enough. read more

This is the kind of restaurant that sucked up the business Country Gentleman forfeited when they moved out to the wilderness, aka, Southwest Kennewick. That means they are open a lot, have a monstrously good soup and salad bar and serve basic food. I am so in love with the gumbo in the salad bar, that I often just order a BLT with salad bar. The only other gumbo I have found in the tri-cities is at Red Lobster, so save your bucks and enjoy a great soup at a great price. Since my dentist's office is nearby, I always make a morning appointment and go fasting (who wants a dental assistant telling her co-workers what she had to remove because her patient didn't floss well enough?). After the damage is done, I high-tail it to Sterlings and order the chicken fried steak dinner with grits and two eggs over easy. I put the grits, with the butter, with the runny egg yolks over the CFS and the eyes roll back in my head! Goodness gracious. The only bad food I had was in Richland when I ordered a seafood medley that came in a pouch so that everything was equally bland. read more

Yuk! Even our waitress said the coffee was dirt water. Not a good start. I had the waffle with banana and rasberries, or should I say canned raspberry sauce. WAY too much of that - I think there was a hotel-quality bleh waffle underneath all that mess, but couldn't quite be sure - it was so soggy. When asked, I did agree to whipped cream on top, but didn't realize I had ordered a waffle with my whipped cream there was so damn much of that on top! That certainly didn't help the sogginess of the waffle. My coworker ordered an omelet, which he thought was average at best. We came here on the advice of one of the hosts on our business trip, and we were sure to give him a hard time about it, because we certainly didn't get a good start to our day eating at this dump. Tonight was our second time at Sterling's and we think it has been updated in the past few years? Anyway, very nice finishes and quite comfy there. The food was good and the service was...interesting. There is a stuffed avocado on the menu; one of my favorite dishes. I asked our server if that was a whole or half avocado. (I wanted it as an appetizer) She assured me it was a half, so I ordered that and the chopped steak on the 'lite' menu. The steak was supposed to come with potato and salad or soup. She didn't ask about either, but I asked for the salad. Salads came out first and I have to say; really good, fresh salad! Then came our meals: hubs had a filet mignon with potatoes and gravy, cooked perfectly. I had a chopped steak with white gravy instead of brown and a dish of sliced avocado swimming in white sauce and buried under celery and an ounce or so if bay shrimp. It was a deconstructed stuffed avocado and was in reality a whole fruit. We both enjoyed what we had, although I scraped most of the celery off. We ordered desserts after the server had brought our check. She was nice about it, but completely forgot my decaf coffee, even after I turned my cup up. We will go back if we are back in town again ; who doesn't love an adventure? read more

My boyfriend took me to Sterling's for dinner tonight. The service was fine, and his meal was good but mine was not. I ordered fettuccine alfredo with salmon which came out lukewarm. I sent it back (trying to avoid food poisoning from improperly cooked seafood) and the replacement came out hot. But after I ate a few bites I noticed oil pooling around the sides of the bowl. I stopped eating and by the time we left there was at least a 1/4 cup of oil standing in the bowl. I'm annoyed, disgusted and now worried about getting sick. I ordered a wrap and the lettuce was brown and not good quality and looks like it was just haphazardly thrown into the to-go box. Wife and I came in on a Wednesday around 1 P.M. The parking was a little challenging as there is only about 6 spaces behind the place. Parking can be found on the street and across the street in a deserted restaurant. We walked past a large salad bar that had a lot of items on it. The place is smaller then it looks on the outside. The booths were comfortable, Windows clean, with a good view of George Washington street. The server was prompt and courteous. The menu is huge and it starts with breakfast and ends at the salad bar. I had the seafood combo, which was 2 fried cod fillets, 3 butterflied shrimp, and a crab cake. It also came with soup or salad, potatoes. I had a salad and fries. I thought that 15.99 was reasonable price for all that. Wife had the Ruben and fries. With the seafood, Everything had that frozen out of the box corn meal coating. The fish was quite dry. No juice in that fish. The crab cake was nothing fresh either. Like a can of crab meat with a filler added. The fries were good though. My wife's Reuben was not good either. The sour kraut was so moist that it soaked into the bread and it was really soggy. I would come back and try a breakfast maybe. I did like the casual, comfortable atmosphere. My recommendation here is don't expect a culinary elite type meal. Keep it simple like you are at a Denny's and enjoy the comfortable surroundings. read more
