I recommend booking in advance since spots fill up quickly. I spoke with Alex to ask questions and she gave me an idea of what to expect for the party. She even decorated the birthday table in the theme colors that we wanted. Alex and her assistant handled all aspects of the art project from the setup, to the demo and explanation, to preparing the artwork for take home. It was so nice to be able to relax and take photos and admire the art making process. The party was well planned and we had time to complete the artwork, eat lunch, and have dessert. Everyone had a blast.

They are kind, incredibly generous with their knowledge, and created such a welcoming environment for both my mom and me. There is a really nice variety of workshops too and I'm hoping they add even more for evenings. I recently took the holiday linocut workshop and had the best time! It wasn't just about learning a new craft; the vibe was so social and upbeat. The teacher was wonderful and the other students were a blast to hang out with while we worked. Their approach to teaching really builds your confidence. For the first time, I actually felt like an artist rather than just a hobbyist. The atmosphere here is creative, supportive, and fun. I'm constantly checking their calendar for new classes and workshops to be added. Check them out if you or your kids (or your mom!) want a community as well as an art school.

I don't normally do things like reviewing stuff online, but the sweet young woman I talked to last week while picking up my nephew left such a wonderful impression on me that I felt the need to share! I've been in this building a few times before, but during my last visit the atmosphere felt different, I don't really know a better way to say it other than it felt more inviting. I think it was the music they were playing, very peaceful! She came out of the back room and greeted me very kindly, she was such a pleasant person to talk with! I wish I could remember her name of the top of my head, but I'm pretty bad with names (and after thinking it over I don't think I would say her name here even if I remembered it, not my place to share her personal things with the internet). However, she had a beautiful smile and short hair, I won't go any further into describing her since I don't think it would be right to blast her appearance online in a overly descriptive way. We talked for a little while as my nephew was finishing his camp, and apparently she's the one who implemented the new microwave. Very clever! She mentioned a few more projects she was working on for the shop that I can't remember, but what I do remember was I thought they were fantastic improvements while I was hearing them!! Something about a snack cabinet I think? I might be wrong, so don't bet to much on my memory. I can't say enough about how sweet and wonderful she was to talk with, even if it was only for a few minutes. The part my nephew liked best was "The Prize Boxes", or atleast thats what he told me its called. From what I could tell she would let the kids pick a prize to take home from a little box of their choice. I thought it was neat! My nephew seems to like her quite a bit, and I can see why! I like her much 10000x better than the previous employees I remember talking with in the past!

Throughout this time I have never seen or heard any negative responses from the children or their families. Sometimes I sit in on rehearsals and I've always been impressed with how the participants remain focused on the projects at hand. Seeing a large group of children concentrating on their work and not "messing around" while rehearsing is impressive to me. I really appreciate the work ethic of the participants, especially since this is a behavior that you don't see much of among modern children these days. For years my child has eagerly and regularly attended Standing Ovation productions. For the past couple of years she has also been an assistant, working with the younger people. This has been a valuable experience for her and she also continues to participate in productions with her peer group. There's a certain amount of self discipline that is necessary to pursue the performing arts. That self discipline is something my daughter developed largely through Standing Ovations. This troupe may not be right for every child and family, but I am extremely happy with the way I've seen Barrett work with my daughter and her friends. His rehearsals are always open to visitors and I give him 5 stars across the board.

On that first day, although my daughter was a little hesitant, Barrett was funny, engaging, and inclusive of all the children in the class. At the same time, he had good control of the group (despite the varying ages from as young as 5 to 13 and large size of the group of maybe 15-20 kids). Because my daughter was so young, I was initially concerned about how well she would do in such a big mixed group of kids. But every week, she told me how much fun she had, all the things she learned, and the friends she made. Each encounter I have had with Barrett has been professional and warm. Yes, sometimes he's loud (but what drama teacher isn't, especially in a large group of gregarious, energetic kids?). Sometimes he has to be stern, but in my experience, he hasn't done it needlessly. Instead, I've observed that he emphasizes teamwork among the kids--letting them know if one person doesn't pull their weight, it affects the whole production. That's reality in life, and that's a skill I want my child to learn. My experience has been that he works with the kids to build their confidence and my daughter has definitely gained so much from Barrett and his group.

We were both unhappy with the public school and looking for an alternative. I still remember the day we pulled up to the school. My daughter saw the sign...pre-school to high school...and she said, "That's it. I'm staying here until I graduate from high school." So while we were talking to the principal about fifth grade I also asked about the high school (I plan ahead). Here we are, years later, and I am the parent of a high school senior. She loves the teachers at the school. They are trusted adults. She feels she can talk with them and ask for their advice. The teachers have a wide mix of backgrounds, so there are lots of points of views. This is so important as young adults start to pull away from the family and look for external role models. There is a feeling of trust between students and teachers. Parents are involved in the school. On vacation last summer, her aunt (a former D1 diver) showed her some dives and suggested she just "try" diving. They looked online, found Cal Diving Academy, and sent an e-mail. Coach Eric called my daughter that afternoon to tell her about the program and suggested she come in the following week just to try it out. My daughter did not intend to switch sports then and there, but she loved diving and everything about Cal Diving Academy. From day one, the coaches and the other divers have been welcoming, friendly, and inclusive. The coaching has been incredible. Her diving is beautiful and she has learned so much.
