Lots of cars here, they were very busy but still managed to take care of my car. My car was having idle issues and kept stalling out. Turned out I needed new radiator hoses. They took care of the repairs within 2 hours and even managed to do some other minor inspections and fixes to make sure my car was good to go. Wow that was a very unpleasant experience unfortunately the older gentleman (mechanic) was rude and pulled some total classist bullshit my 2014 Ford Focus low tire pressure sensor light appeared a few days ago this is my first car so I don't really understand the tire gauge / tire pressure settings requirement and thought best if I had a professional do it.. when I explained to the mechanic this and asked if he could help he walked up to the BMW that had pulled in (to have its plastic license plate cover screwed back on) pointed to the numbers on the tire the proceeded to help the douche driving the BMW... way to brush aside a potential customer and lose yourself business I'll definitely be advising anyone and everyone to avoid this mechanic read more

Nightmare!! I'd gone here and had my heads and radiator replaced. A month later it wasn't starting, we thought it could be the alternator. It took him 2 days to call us to tell us it was the battery...we'd just replaced it so we got another one under warranty. We asked for a complete tune up. Less than 2 months later it was overheating. He took 3 days to tell me the heads needed to be replaced again! That it was our fault because we'd driven it hot. Also that the overheating was not because of the radiator(of course it wasn't). He said he's need to replace the heads to even diagnose the problem of the over heating. Yeah right buddy. like we are gonna trust you with a dime of our money at this point. We had someone else look at it and the heads were NOT blown. He burped the thermostat. took him less than 1 hour to fix. John is either a liar and a thief OR they have absolutely no idea what they are doing. Either way DON'T GO HERE i wasted over $900 and he was trying to get me for $700 more to then diagnose what would then cost who knows how much. Haig's has been smilingly ripping me off for a while. I have been using haig's complete auto repair for about 5 years now for my routine oil changes ,check engine lights and practically for anything mechanical. (Brakes,water pump ,timing belt ,engine rebuild etc.) John offers great quality work at a great affordable price. In these last 5 years he has serviced 3 of my vehicles 2 german (vw) and a ford Mustang cobra(American), unlike some other auto shops work only on American cars or imports haig's practically covers all makes and models. Wow, I was majorly impressed with this place. Driving up, it doesn't look like the fanciest place, but this place is a diamond in the rough. I explained my problem (check engine light on and blinking, computer reading that I needed new spark plugs despite having changed them three times in the past four years) and he drove my car around the block immediately. About 4 hours later, he called me with the diagnosis, and because the fix was fairly expensive, he was very honest and told me the cost and that it may be a better move to look into getting a new car because my car may not be worth the work. Since that isn't an option for me right now, I told him to go ahead with the fix (new ignition coil). The labor was incredibly inexpensive and he had the car ready that same day, though I picked it up the next day. I've had my car in for the spark plug problem more than 4 times, and my car also has had some problems with shaking/shuddering that I attributed to age (it's a 2007 with 148,000 miles). After taking it to Haig's, my car feels brand new. The shaking and shuddering is gone, it accelerates like a champ, and feels reliable and safe. I cannot express how grateful I am. Haig's was able to identify a problem that 3 other garages couldn't find. He did the work fast and was honest and had great communication. After searching for more than 4 years, I think I finally found my go-to garage in San Diego! read more

The car was ready quite a bit faster than expected and I was absolutely charged the correct amount for the work done. That is always a concern when going to a new place. I was referred here by Harry at Sam Lee Auto Repair (another AWESOME repair shop) after he detected an electrical problem that he couldn't fix. I told the owner of Haig's, John, that Harry said the truck's computer wasn't communicating with the engine. I told him that, additionally, the engine was running rough like the timing was off or I needed a new spark plug. When I went to pick up the truck, John told me the computer issue was a blown fuse and he wasn't even going to charge me for it. The rough idle was the result of a faulty spark wire which he replaced. But, he said, while fixing the wire he had accidentally broken a hose which was part of the radiator. He felt bad, although it wasn't completely his fault because you could see where it had corroded. It would mean I'd need a new radiator and I'd have to leave it overnight. No problem, the truck is nearly 12 years old, so I imagine it needed a new radiator anyway. And he didn't charge me for the labor on the radiator either! I'm really happy with the service I get at both these places and I can't recommend them highly enough! Both shops do excellent work and their honesty is readily apparent. read more

The man that helped me while I explained what was going on was extremely rude and kept telling me that I should take it too the dealership to be fixed under warranty. #1 My car doesnt have a warranty still on it, thats why i was bringing to them. Haig's is the ONLY place I ever think about taking my car! A friend of mine told me about Haig's a few years ago and I have had every repair since then done here. Motor mounts, cooling issues, starter replacement, new belts, water pump, my car has about 170,000 miles on it and thanks to John and his guys I know it will go a lot further! Super honest and fast, and VERY reasonable prices, a few times I had been there and John didn't charge me for a small repair when we both thought it would be something more, but I felt inclined to at least tip him, good deeds should never go unappreciated. Update (May 2016) - Now I know for sure that John is really honest ... I took my car to a different mechanic because it was closer to my home... I suspected the guy was overcharging, so I took it to John, and NOT ONLY was that mechanic overcharging in labor, but he told me a part was bad when in reality it was perfectly fine. Bottom line is that the other mechanic wanted $500 for something John ended up only charging me $180 for. THESE GUYS ARE HONEST. I've been coming to John for almost 5 years now, so I'd know by now, right?? Old review: I have a 98 Corolla, approaching 200k miles now... I've been coming to Haig's for the last few years now. The owner John is a very hard-working, honest mechanic who really cares about giving you the best price, and fixing only what needs to be done. Just for kicks, I have gotten estimates at other mechanics for the same work, and John's prices are always lower. The service is very fast, and he always calls immediately and leaves voicemails regarding price estimate and pick-up time. I love the character of the old place. It's well-worn, adorned with asian bamboo plants, and John makes tea every morning. :) I know, it has nothing to do with business, but sometimes you can really tell when someone has a good heart. Quick and efficient service. When I did not pass smog, I brought my car into Haig's to find out the problem. He reviewed my smog report, told me what he was going to do and I my car was finished by the end of the day. He even smogged it for me so that I didn't have to go through that mess again! Replaced the CO2 sensor and spark plug wires and I was good to go! Interestingly enough, a mechanic in Chula Vista told me that I needed a new head gasket and valve job, "you should just sell the car as a junker""it's not worth the repair". They replaced my alternator a few days ago and the day I picked it up, I unfortunately my car wouldn't start after I parked it.(a 2005 Altima, I found one more problem the previous owner didn't tell me.) Oil was lealing from my 04 Acura RSX so I took it to a oil change place to see if they could locate where the leak was. They said they couldn't locate the leak, but that it was a big leak and that I should get it fixed as soon as possible. They suggestedHaig's. I was a lil wary because of the part of town it was located, but the mechanic found where the oil was leaking from in about 10 mins.
