Steve is the REAL DEAL! He completed my kitchen floor yesterday, 3/31/14, and I couldn't be happier. After a leaky water line behind my fridge left my floor flooded and unsalvageable, I decided to put out some facebook feelers to see if there were any good tile guy recommendations. I had a few different folks give estimates, some higher and some lower than Steve, but I immediately had a great feeling about him as he took the time to explain the process, how he would approach the project, and he paid particular attention to the details that I had initially overlooked (sealing the grout, how tiles line up, pattern ideas, transition pieces, etc.) He started the work early Saturday morning (showed up exactly on time), and he was meticulous with the prep work to ensure my place remained clean and unimpacted by the dust. I left him unsupervised the majority of the weekend, trusted him in my place and tried to stay out of his way. I returned to a finished product that was absolutely AMAZING! I'll be honest, I'm pretty fastidious, especially when dealing with something like flooring. With that being said, the tile was put down PERFECTLY! Okay, I waited for quite a while to get a chance to have Steve work on our house. From the moment I saw some of his work and knew that it would be good but, I had no idea how good it would actually turn out. First of all, I enjoyed consulting with Steve on our project, he is a person who enjoys what he does and it shows. Second, he's a pleasure to work with, and he's likely the most conscientious​ designer out there. Not only does he have a great eye for color and patterns but, having seen so many​ different types of homes he anticipates​ the more subtle problems well in advance. Lastly, he has a wealth of really good experience and he communicates it really well. This might seem par for the course but, every house is unique and there really isn't anything that works out of the box for a house with any real​ character. As such, things like the type of vanity or bathtub can make or break a project. Knowing what to look out for before you start can save so much time and money up front. We renovated a not too dated bathroom, hoping to give the room a clean look with easy to clean surfaces, a bit more storage, ​and a more modern looking vanity. The result, I'm happy to say, met our​ requirements to the letter. The work was not easy, and there were certainly a few head-scratching moments but, the end result was well worth the trip. We took a little bit longer than expected, due to changes in the lighting and backsplash design, but Steve never complained. He completely understood and let us take the time we needed to make decisions we were happy with. Tiling of my shower and floor came out amazing; favorite feature is the shower metal trim with mitered corners that matches my brushed nickel fixtures. Paid extra attention to detail and did work above and beyond with patching back of drywall, baseboards, providing additional piece of marble for side backsplash and other items that came up. We finished our project before 2017 Christmas but didn't leave a review immediately. Why? First, we would like to see whether Steve's job can last during time. Second, we would like to see how Steve perform for minor changes. After three months, we were very glad that we chose Steve for our project, and we highly recommend Steve for your bathroom remodeling. We were first time buyers and it's our very first remodeling project. Steve displayed his profession-ship from the first time he showed up in our house. Unlike other contractors we compared, he did a very careful measurement to calculate the materials we need. He also provided a reasonable price and schedule to meet our deadline. After we decided to work with Steve, he introduced the process and let us know the amount of materials that we need to purchase. He even helped us to pick up the materials, which was a great help since we don't have a big van. Talking about the quality of the work, we were very happy about the overall looking. The tiles were cut and installed perfectly. The shower and the toilets worked perfectly after three months' use. No signs of leakage. Another thing I would like to point out that Steve is very responsive. As mentioned above, we got a very tight schedule and merely finished the project before Christmas. In early Jan., we contacted Steve since there were some minor parts that need to be fixed. He came to our house the second day after he finished his vacation abroad, ignored the jet lag, and fixed all minor parts nicely. We really appreciate it. I couldn't be happier with the tile floor Steve installed in my bathroom. He quoted me $700 for the job, and even though it turned out to be more work than expected (due to some subfloor problems), he did the work for the price quoted without any complaint. It also rained cats and dogs and hippos during the job, meaning that poor Steve had to cut tile in the rain, but he did so without complaint. I felt so good about Steve's work that I'm sending him an extra $100 as a tip. He deserves it. And did I mention that the floor looks perfect? read more

We were recommended Steve from some friends of ours who got wood-look tile done throughout their downstairs. The only tiling work we needed done was our fireplace face and hearth, the upstairs master bathroom shower and tub, and the floor of the laundry room. Steve suggested looking at Arizona Tile and Home Depot for tile, and I was able to find selections relatively easily. Arizona had a ton of great selections, but I eventually went with Home Depot in the end because their prices (for some of the tiles I was looking into, which were 3x6 white glossy subway tiles, and a basic light brown tile for the laundry room to match the other tile in the other bathrooms in the house) were better than Arizona. The only tile I got from Arizona was for the fireplace hearth. Throughout the whole project, which took roughly two months, Steve was easy to work with and communicate with. I'm not sure how his pricing compares to other contractors, but my friend who had referred him who had done the research said he was pretty competitive, which was why we went with him without getting other quotes. There was a lot of demolition for our project, and Steve and his team kept everything contained and relatively clean, and hauled/dumped everything (not for free; there's a demo cost in his quote). Steve also referred people for the plumbing/shower fixtures and for our fireplace mantel, and both those contractors were great to work with as well. We are still working with the plumber he recommended actually, Abraham, who also helped Steve the tile work. He'll be doing our glass shower doors for the master bathroom and other two bathrooms, and has installed new toilets and a kitchen sink + faucet for us. The whole thing in the end cost around roughly $7,500 just to give you an idea, excluding the cost of the fireplace mantel. Everything turned out beautifully and my husband and I were really happy with how everything turned out. There was also a minor bookkeeping error that neither of us nor Steve had caught until the end, and Steve had gone abroad on a trip by then, but he resolved the issue quickly and professionally when he got back. Would definitely recommend him to others, and would use him again for future projects! read more

If you plan on installing tile, Steve-O is your guy. He's genuinely friendly and thorough and so are the people who work with him. I read Julie C.'s review about his great grout work and indeed it was true. Because I'm only in SD 4 days out of the week, he brought in extra workers to get a 3 day job done in 2 days flat. They were really careful about protecting the carpet with carpet protection film while treading back and forth and respectful about not wearing their shoes on other parts of the house. When he found out my toilet wouldn't flush correctly, he even ran to Home Depot to buy materials to fix it! Now there's someone going the extra mile. My dad is a General Contractor in LA but his tile guys don't compare to Steve. I look at the beautiful tile work and now I want to put tile everywhere! He will refer you to San Diego Marble and Tile to check out what kind of material/style you want. Make sure you visit their closeout section in the back. That's where I found a beautiful $5 tile on closeout for $1.89! For two bathrooms I only spent about $350 on tile slabs. I couldn't be happier about that. For tile installation, call Steve-O! I can only think of three contractors in my life with whom I've been completely happy with, and Steve is one of them! I actually met him about nine years ago when I was still living at my parents house. I was looking for someone to install tiles in my parents two bathrooms, and unfortunately, I didn't go with him in the end because I hired a "friend" who I thought was doing me a favor. You probably can tell where the story is heading. I made a poor mistake and from that day, I learned to never mix friends with business again. However, I did realize from my first time meeting with Steve that I would hire him in a heartbeat once I own a home and here I am today. I called him up to install tiles as an accent wall in two areas of my home. It was a decision that I didn't even discuss with my husband because I knew that he would do an awesome job. My instinct was correct because I cannot tell you how pleased I am with the outcome. One of the things that typically would bother me with tiles is if the grouts aren't aligned and equally spaced out. Well, Steve installed them perfectly and it was impeccable. It's really hard to find contractors who are competent, hardworking and honest. Not only did Steve possessed all of those qualities, but he was respective, patient, kind and had high work ethics. During the three days that he was here, he cleaned up at the end of each day, and I loved that he was also using high quality materials for the job. I had also asked him if he could come back and re-caulk some areas in our entire house and I was also very pleased with that. When we bought our house, it was built as brand new but the builder failed to seal the grout and it got dirty really quickly. Steve and his team made those areas look clean and presentable again. I am so happy with his work that I'm already thinking about doing more additional accent walls in other areas of my house. I had 1600 sq ft of wood-look tile to do and got several bids. Steve's was a little less than the middle bid, but he measured every inch and seemed like a professional who only did tile as opposed to most of the others who were general contractors, which made me trust his work more. The guys started work on time and right away were professional, respectful, and doing a great job. Work slowed a couple times but there was never a day where someone didn't show up to work, keeping progress moving. The guys were good at cleaning every day and I never came home to an overflowing toilet from someone's huge dump. As Steve made requests for progress payments I checked his math every time and every time it was right on. At the end of project, they fixed the stuff we asked them to, did a great cleanup job, and agreed to come back and take care of any touch ups we found. All projects have issues but Steve, Steve, Gabe, and Gio made it as little stress as possible. I would highly recommend them to anyone, including my boss. read more

I contacted Steve-O after seeing the reviews by Julie C. and Tracy C. I also got bids from two other tile guys. Steve-O gave me a fair quote, lower than one and the same as the other. I went with Steve-O because he was completely responsive to all my communications. He always called me back within 24 hours. He also communicates via email when many other contractors won't. He laid backer-board over a plywood subfloor and 300 sq ft of 13x13 tile on a diagonal with 1/8" grout. That's not the most simple job in the world and he did a fantastic job. I appreciated his communication skills before and during the job. I also liked his on-site assistant. He did the job very quickly and neatly, plus he recycled all the water used for cutting tile.
