Steve and his team built a masterpiece at my house in Leucadia. Steve was extremely versatile due to constructing perfectly matching flagstone porches and walkways. He also constructed both a stone wall and wooden fence that blend seamlessly with the existing materials of the house. The project also demanded a lot creativity and problem solving which was explained in perfect detail. I wanted an ancient lost jungle theme and he hit it out of the park. I couldn't be happier with my private sanctuary. Steve and his team are true experts in their industry. His passion and attention to detail are extremely rare to find in todays world. This is a long-overdue review for a major backyard remodel we were lucky enough to work with Steve from late 2020 through summer of 2022. We initially requested a quote from Steve to build a retaining wall for a pool we were designing. Quickly upon arrival, Steve advised he could build the wall, but noted the size of the rest of our yard and asked if we'd mind if his designer put together some ideas which would make the build more cohesive and appealing. Since we were in the early stages of planning, we were open to this, and were presented with a beautiful plan which utilized almost the entire yard space while also incorporating the originally-requested wall to accommodate the pool. Early in the project, after noticing we were having a hard time receiving communications and updates from our pool contractor regarding timing/permits/additional costs, Steve introduced us to a more communicative and transparent pool builder who ultimately built our gorgeous pool. Steve was patient and open in working with the pool contractor, and was communicative with us about any potential issues or delays as they were encountered. When an issue was encountered, Steve was always prepared with not only a reasonable explanation (i.e. natural impediment, cost), but also multiple viable options for remedy. Steve's workers were impressively punctual, clean, respectful, hard working, and just very pleasant. Immediately after the project was completed, Steve remained in close contact for months, making frequent visits to make sure the plants were taking, and ensuring we hadn't experienced any issues while actively using our new backyard. While our project was completed nearly a year ago, we recently reached out to Steve with a question about our built-in BBQ island after heavy rains impacted the electrical outlets. Steve was at our home the next morning and was able to quickly fix the issue. We are still so happy with everything Steve and his crew were able to create in our yard, and would highly recommend his services to anyone looking. read more

When he does anything, whether it's building a wall or writing a proposal, he is extra concerned about it which shows a greater than average level of care. We hired Steve Schott Landscaping to convert our unused driveway into an outdoor living space. In the beginning, Steve made many promises about the work that was to be performed, the timeline for the project, who he would have performing the labor, etc. Importantly, he also promised that he would be directly involved in the supervision and management of the workers he hired. The project began on June 13, 2016. Steve estimated that the project would take 4 weeks. It ended up taking a little over 3 months, September 22, 2016. 　 After a couple of weeks, I began noticing issues with the quality of his workmanship. When I brought up a number of problems (new stairs constructed at different heights, custom BBQ concrete counter-top crumbling, paint color on new patio covers turning out different than the way planned, dimensions of various things being inaccurate, etc.). Every single time I pointed out an issue to Steve, his response was to be defensive and to argue with me instead of focusing on how to fix the problems. He told me to "suck it up" and that construction remodels can be done "one hundred different ways." I even recently contacted him to fix the gate and fence he installed, because I couldn't shut the gate without slamming it. He told me over 2 months ago he would come by to fix it. Still waiting for him to come by to fix something that he said would only take 30 minutes. I have since contacted someone else to make the necessary repairs to the fence/gate. Steve has excuses for everything. It wasn't easy to communicate with his workers and he would regularly show up for about 15 minutes per day in the morning. If something went wrong later in the day, I couldn't get a hold of him because he was fishing. There are better landscape contractors out there. Don't make the same mistake we did... read more

If you are looking for a no-nonsense, fairly priced, straight shooter to design your outdoor dream, look no further than Steve Schott. Steve walked into a very challenging situation at our project, which essentially was an amalgamation of other people's work over the course of a year, and he was tasked with tying it all together to make it look "intentional." We're repeat customers, so might be biased. As with any undertaking, familiarity with a contractor helps develop trust, and we have that in spades with Steve after working with him on many previous projects. He and his crew recently completed over $60k in hardscaping and landscaping for us. This was a long and frustrating process at times, trying to convert two-dimensional landscape drawings into a three-dimensional reality...long (for us) because we had to phase the process into manageable financial outlays, and frustrating (for Steve, probably!) because of the myriad changes we made to the plan at nearly every stage. Steve was always patient and helped us drive toward decisions and solutions that kept us moving toward the end goal. Every project has mistakes, and each was handled quickly, with no impact to us. After plants went in the ground I miscommunicated the status of our irrigation system, which led some plants to die a quick death; even though it was my fault, Steve replaced the plants and fixed the irrigation system at no cost to us. Finally, a household water supply issue (extremely high pressure from street to house) created some repeat irrigation valve failures, which Steve once again fixed quickly and at no cost to us. Our experiences and projects with Steve show that he takes immense pride in his work. Some reviews here cite issues to the contrary, which I find hard to believe based on our experiences. I hired Steve Schott Landscaping to re-do my entire backyard -- design, build, etc. He was easy to work with, communicates well, he's prompt, honest, and creative and the work is fantastic! Steve and his crew just finished a fence and arbor in our yard. We are very happy with it. We did make adjustments to the work and Steve was always happy to do them and make some suggestions to make things even better. He is easy to work with and available for any questions that may come up. The work was on time and his crew cleaned up everything each day before they left. I used steve for 2 retaining walls at my house. His bid came in at the same price as other guys cash offers (He was cheaper than 3 others). The first thing that I really liked was his bid was well formatted and very clear with what the scope of work would be. I knew exactly what I was getting and how it was going to be constructed. He was easy to get ahold of and answered any questions I had. He encouraged me to see other projects he had completed to see his workmanship. As far as the work itself, his guys showed up every morning right when they said they would and were actually working by 7 am. They put in full days work and moved quickly with the project. Conseco, his mason, did great work and was very friendly. Steve checked in with me several times during the project and made sure all his guys were on the same page. He and Jose showed up on time to complete the project including digging trenches, installing drains and concrete and then putting our yard back together and adding some plants to help the work last. We wanted to create a Hawaiian volcanic rock garden with succulents in our front entry way. Steve and his team did a wonderful job with both the design and the installation. It truly looks like an under-the-sea scene with the succulents replacing sea grass, coral and other water plants and then beach sand and shells scattered among the rocks. The garden is very low water use, and has matured beautifully. We even get compliments from people just dropping off items at our front door! He worked closely with us and made adjustments at our request. We're using him for another project now, and he's correcting errors made by the initial landscape team. We hired Schott landscaping to build a pad and several gravel walkways in our backyard, which is very sloped. Steve's quote was higher than the 2 others by several thousands. We decided to hire him due to the honesty he portrayed to get the job, saying "I only want to make you happy with my work"! He said it would only take a few weeks. He started 7/11/17 & took over 5 weeks to finish. he only showed up for about 3/4 to 1 hour each day, about 2 hrs after his 2 workers had arrived @ 7am. The communication with his workers was difficult at best due to the language barrier, and made more difficult due to the absence of a qualified supervisor. There were constant irregularities in what was being produced versus what he said he would accomplish. he continually tried to cheapen the job by saying certain materials, such as weed barriers, DG gravel, etc., were not really needed. We had wanted 36 inch wide walkways & he tried to put in 28 inch wide ones, blaming his workers for the "mistake". Each time I brought up a discrepancy between what had been agreed on & what was being pushed, he would blame it on someone or something else. I take blame for not having Steve provide us with a drawing of what he expected to do. The work became a nightmare for both my wife & I. We finally paid him just to get him off the site. I believe Steve is ill prepared to do the type of work we required on a sloped area, both in his knowledge & use of people & equipment. We are having another contractor come in to repair & finish the job we thought we could count on him doing. Bottom line is he is a lousy supervisor, will tell you what he thinks you want to hear then do what he can to cut corners on cost & continue to blame things that are wrong on something outside his control. You will see that if he responds to this review. Nothing will be his fault. BE CAREFUL.... read more
