Where I ended up getting my wedding gown for my September 2015 wedding, so obviously a great experience! What made this boutique so unique is that you meet with and are sized by the designer himself. Additionally, I do not believe these dresses are sold elsewhere in NYC and therefore it would be highly unlikely to find a friend wearing the same gown months later. It's an extremely personalized experience. They only help up to two brides at a time. I really LOVED working with Anthony who is incredibly bubbly. He really made my experience. Although not as personable, Darcy was very professional and sweet. She was just a bit soft spoken and shy but what was nice about her is that aside from being extremely helpful on numerous occasions, she was also no pressure. Although I still think it's silly to spend a lot on a dress you will only wear once, my dress was well worth it. I even went above my intended budget but looking back at my pictures, this dress truly transformed me into a bride. Love, love, love everything about Steven Birnbaum Bridal! I found the shop through previous yelp reviews which conveyed a classy, yet unpretentious vibe. They offer a beautiful selection of dresses. My Maid of Honor and I spotted the perfect dress for me among many beautiful options upon walking in the door. I spent a bit more than I had planned, but still in my comfort zone, and honestly worth every dollar. Anthony was a pleasure to work with while trying on multiple options. In fact, hands down agree with Julie G's review from May 30, 201 6 - I really LOVED working with Anthony. He made entire experience fun and easy. Steven, the designer, was also great to work with throughout the entire process. Shannon was very accommodating in scheduling my appointments (traveling up from Philly for fitting means limited scheduling options). Absolutely love my dress. The style, fabric and attention to detail were gorgeous! The train was beautiful, the bustle was great - and looked awesome when dancing - and I never had one concern about the strapless giving out on me. There was an audible gasp among our 140 guests as I casually pulled out a tissue during the ceremony. Needless to say, all compliments about the dress included a mention of "the pockets." After weeks and weeks of searching for the perfect dress with blah results, I was ready to cut my losses and get married in a white velour Juicy track suit.* I had gone to the Macy's tween department to pick it out---custom rhinestones on the ass, natch---buuut....: FORTUNATELY, it didn't come to that, because I discovered Birnbaum and Bullock! Their line of dresses---well, three lines, actually, at various price points---is incredible: beautiful detail, gorgeous fabrics, the works. Lots of gorgeous options, but I ended up going with the Parker dress from the Robert Bullock Brides line, which is super affordable to boot. I couldn't be more excited about this dress; it has everything---everything!!---I was looking for: texture texture texture, trumpet shape, modern, girly without being creampuffy/while still being sexy...incredible. As an added bonus, when you go to the store, you're the only person there---this isn't the bridal version of a sweatshop (ahem Kleinfeld what?). I met with Robert---as in the Bullock of Birnbaum and Bullock---and he was fantastic---you could tell he was looking to get you in the RIGHT dress, not the most expensive dress, which isn't always the case. Besides, these are THEIR designs---who knows them better than they do? More designers should be out there pairing girls to gowns. (I like the alliteration of that....) Even before I got engaged, I had an idea of what I wanted to wear for my wedding. I didn't know much outside of the world of big designer gowns. When I got engaged and began thinking about my search for the perfect dress, I read reviews about Birnbaum & Bullock and thought it sounded so different from the experiences I had heard about from friends and seen on "Say Yes to the Dress" that I decided to make an appointment there. I am so glad that I did! From the moment Robert Bullock introduced himself to me in his beautiful bridal studio, I knew I made a good decision in coming here. I was shopping with my mom, future mother in law, maid of honor, and two of my bridesmaids. They were all so impressed with the space right away! I had such a great experience from start to finish. Robert asked me all the right questions and pulled dresses that really flattered my figure. I loved every dress that Robert put me in but when I put on "the one" I knew it, Robert knew it, and my shopping entourage knew it. Robert kept mentioning how I smiled the whole time I was in that dress. I felt like I was the only bride in the world when I was there working one-on-one with Robert. She helped pull different dresses for the bride to try on and was really great with finding the right sashes and veils. The dresses here were of the best quality...of course at a price but nonetheless beautiful, well designed dresses. OMG, I don't have enough good words to say about Robert Bullock. He's absolutely fantastic. This will take a while so bear with me. My sister and I went to see Robert in his stunning gallery on a rainy NY afternoon. I was so weary of wedding-gown salespeople at that point that meeting Robert was a breath of fresh air. He took one look at me and immediately brought out 5 stunning dresses from his collection. I didn't know which one to choose from - they all looked fantastic. Oh, did I mention, I was the only bride in his salon??! I know, surprising. It turns out, that's how they conduct business. They make a bride feel special :) Getting one on one attention from Robert was amazing. Finding out that I was dealing with THE DESIGNER himself was even more amazing. Back to my dresses: I tried on all five of them - with jewelry, veil & shoes specifically chosen from Robert to match my shape and figure. Well, when my sister saw me come out she had no words. Neither did I - I was in love all over again (with my dress this time). It took us a while to decide between the five dresses, and when Robert mentioned that the first one I tried on was from his never-seen-before Fall 2010 collection, I choked. This one of a kind dress had never been seen before, in any galleries, any magazines, any runways. I was the first one wearing it that day. Well that was it - we shook hands (kissed on the cheek actually) and off I went confident that I had made the best decision of my life. Great experience from start to finish. Highly recommend coming here on your wedding dress search. If you're not quite sure what you want, you can browse the racks first to pick out the dresses you want to try and get a feel for different styles/fabrics. They have a nice variety of dresses, and it is not as overwhelming as some of the dress stores in NYC with hundreds of dresses to choose from. Once you narrow it down, the consultant can help suggest dresses for you to try if you let them know your preference. While I was trying on dresses I realized I liked the lace of one dress, but the style of another. B&B suggested we create a unique dress just for me, by combining the two - amazing!! It came out better than I could have imagined and I could not have had a better dress shopping experience. The dresses are beautiful and high quality. During each of your appointments you get personalized, unrushed attention, often from Stephen or Robert themselves! I came here with 3 friends and it was my very first bridal appt. I was SO excited, especially since I used to work across the street and pass it by so many times I knew I'd come here when the time came. The studio was spacious, accommodating, staff was helpful and patient - really no complaints. I felt special from the moment I walked in. Gowns were beautifully displayed on racks with labels that were easy to read and determine pricing quickly. Also, they weren't in protective plastic sleeves, so it was much easier to see and determine whether you were attracted to the style or not. Once I got engaged, I had no idea where to go or what to look for in terms of a dress. My coworker found Birnbaum & Bullock online for me and loved the dresses, so I made it my second stop. Well it turned out to I wouldn't need to look anywhere else! You just get a good feeling as soon as you enter the studio. Robert and Steven are both wonderful. They have dresses in every style/price range and all are beautifully made. With very little description on what I thought I liked, Steven brought out 5 dresses that were all just lovely. However when I put on the fourth gown, I knew that was it and I did not need to look anywhere else. During my second fitting, my mom had train issues and could not make it, but Robert and Steven were fantastic. They made me feel so comfortable and my dress fit absolutely perfectly. I cannot wait to wear it on my wedding day. It is just amazing to me that these are the men that design such gorgeous gowns, yet they are so helpful and down to earth. What a wonderful experience!! Steven and Robert are geniuses, I cannot tell you how gorgeous their work is. Each gown is extremely well-designed, with incredible attention to detail, and excellent choice of fabrics and materials. When you buy a gown with lace on it here, you're getting gorgeous Alencon lace beautifully detailed, not stick on appliques or itchy doilies up against your neck to annoy you the whole ceremony. I felt like I was trying on a costume from an Opera production every time I went in for a fitting!! Steven is a delight to work with, and a true artist. There were so many tiny touches and finishes that he suggested, or teeny alterations I lost count, but the result was stunning. Who knew a 1/4 of an inch off the waist would make a world of difference in how the entire neckline and bust looked? Steven did :-) He has a wonderful appreciation and understanding of how to make gowns flattering and elegant but still striking and unique. You will not encounter anything that makes you feel fat or ugly or anything less than beautiful. Everyone looks like a princess in their work, and trust me! I saw plenty of other brides trying on dresses there and they all looked beautiful. I cannot recommend them highly enough. I don't know, maybe some people want to be crammed into a packed appointment schedule to meet with an 18 year old girl with no clue and be forced to choose only three dresses to try on from an overwhelming collection of shopworn, poorly-cared for dresses in 45 minutes because the TV crews are coming in for the next appnt... Not me though. I absolutely adored my serene, unique, knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and talented experience with B&B. Buying a dress was the part of the wedding planning process I feared most--as an over-40, not super girly girl I just couldn't deal with a huge SYTTD type experience. I found Birnbaum & Bullock through Yelp and then fell in love with the Callie dress on their website. Everyone I showed it to agreed it was gorgeous and totally me. Only thing is, I'm also cheap, so when I found a J. Crew dress for $60 final sale I bought it and decided to put Callie out of my mind. Fast forward, I find out they're having a sample sale, make an appointment, and when I walk in there's Callie in my size, and she fits perfectly except needing a hem. I didn't love how the belt cut me so the designers offer to make me a sash using the same fabric as the piping on the neckline and mock up an example. Sold! Robert did my fittings and was absolutely wonderful to work with. Alterations and the sash were very reasonable. I loved my dress, and in the end my only regret was not paying full price as I would have been able to spend more time hanging out with the guys. ;) Thank you! read more

I had an amazing experience with B&B. I added them to my list of places to shop at last-minute, and am glad I did -- it's where I found my dress! I loved how quiet and personal the showroom felt (not that I didn't love the Kleinfeld experience, too, but this was a breath of calm and fresh air) and the fact that one of the designers was always around for a fitting was a great comfort. As for the dress itself, I absolutely loved it; it was modern, traditional and unlike any dress I've seen. The fitting process was a breeze compared to the horror stories I've heard from friends, and I felt their prices were fair. Birnbaum and Bullock is by far the best bridal shop I have ever been to. I have been MOH for two of my best friends, who both found their dresses at B&B. The atmosphere makes the bride, and her company, feel very relaxed, and everyone is allowed to freely look at all of the dresses on the floor. From experience of shopping with the brides to be, we had been to places that would not even let us OR the bride select any dresses, instead, you had to tell them the style you were looking for and they would bring you out dresses. How nice it was to come to B&B and be able to roam around the store and look at all the dresses and try them all on. There are also prices listed on the dresses which makes it very nice if you have a budget. I would say the average dress is around $3K, ranging from approx $2K to $6K. As far as the dresses, they are just beautiful. There are so many different dresses than the typical bridal gowns that really make this store stand out from the rest. Every dress is custom made for you, which is also a great plus, and the price is so reasonable. If you decide you want to add this or that, or remove anything from the dress, they will do it for you. Robert Bullock is delightful to work with. He is so accomodating and really makes you feel so comfortable with your purchase. He has great taste and is extremely knowledgeable in this business. I cannot say enough positive things about him or this store. We also brought champagne and he was nice enough to bring us out champagne glasses :) Really such a great experience here. Affordable, beautiful custom dresses, and the best atmosphere to shop in. Please go here before you waste your time at any other store where you will feel like you are just one of many brides. Birnbaum & Bullock were by far my favorite wedding vendor and exceeded my expectations in every way. I bought my dress at one of their sample sales and it was the first dress I tried on. It is a beautiful silk dress with a lace overlay in a classic yet modern (not old fashioned) style. When I bought my dress, I weighed 30 pounds more than when I was actually fitted (over a year later) but Steven worked miracles with the dress. It was taken apart and at each fitting, Steven worked one layer at a time (first the silk slip, then the lace overlay, then the cap sleeves, etc.). My favorite part of the Birnbaum & Bullock experience was being fitted directly by the dress designers and receiving their advice and personal attention -- even though the dress had been a sample and I didn't pay what many others might pay for a designer dress. At the fittings, I was the only person there and it was a wonderfully, unstressful experience. My dress came out amazing and I couldn't have been happier. Finally, Steven even went out of his way to help me fix my headpiece (even though I did not buy it at B&B) which kept slipping off my head before he fixed it! Thank you!!! read more

I visited about 4 different bridal salons including B&B. When I went in, they asked what I wanted and I was so sure that I didn't want anything lacy or sweetheart-necklined or mermaid-y. In fact, I had already found what I thought was "the" dress at Wedding Atelier and was just going to B&B because I had the appointment and a friend highly recommended it. After reviewing my budget and what I was interested in, Robert pulled out a few things that fit my criteria. Then he introduced me to "Caroline". Caroline had a sweet-heart neckline and head-to-toe horizontal organza ruching and some kind of mermaid thing going on. He said that it would look good on me, but I was not interested. At. All. Until I put it on. And then I didn't want to take it off. I became obssessed with Caroline. I called to check the price (which was out of my budget by a few hundred, but I was willing to sacrifice guests at the wedding if I could just have that dress!). I brought friends back to visit Caroline with me so that they could see how perfect we were together. Robert and Stephen patiently indulged my obssession. I loved working with Birnbaum and Bullock from start to finish. I was not a bride who always dreamed of my dress and I had so much trouble deciding. Everyone here was so helpful, they let me come back as many times as I wanted to try it on to make sure it was the dress (which was helpful because they don't allow pictures and I couldn't remember what the dress looked like the second I left the store). I finally made my choice and it was most definitely the right one. The two designers are on site and help you throughout the process, whether it's their dress or from their partners line, which was great. I picked a Robert Bullock dress, which I fell in love with but Steven was also there to help me from start to finish and he was amazing to work with as well. I am very petite and since they are the designers, they were able to make me dress in a petite style. They helped me accessorize the dress perfectly and were honest when what I may have liked didn't look the best that I could look (i.e., I loved a belt there but Steven told me due to my height, it cut me in half and made me look shorter and he was 100% right). When I had my 2nd and final fitting, I felt I needed a 3rd fitting and additional alternations to be made (we were less than two weeks out from the wedding) and they were able to accommodate me no problem. I would highly recommend getting your dress here. The experience of working directly with designers who are extremely talented and have a wide selection of dresses to suit almost every taste is unparalleled. I had an amazing experience at Birnbaum and Bullock. After seeing their ad in a magazine and researching their website and Yelp reviews, I made an apppointment to try their gowns. From the very first phone call, I was treated with respect and professionalism - they called to confirm my appointment, and reiterated that they work with only one bride at a time. When I arrived, I was greeted by Chelsea, who turned out to be enthusiastic and patient and angelic all at once. I was indeed the only bride in the salon, which was calm, clean and quiet. We sat down together and reviewed what I was looking for in a dress, as well as my budget. Their dresses fall within about $1,000-5,000. I had written down the names of some of their dresses from their website, so Chelsea pulled those, plus some that she thought would suit me - about 6 altogether. She also added one that hadn't been tried on by another bride yet. I tried on the first 3 dresses, and while they looked good, none were the perfect dress. On a whim, I tried the one Chelsea had selected. As soon as she zipped up the back, I gasped, and knew that this was my dress. Even better, it fell well within my budget, so I could pick out a veil and still fall below my upper limit. I never once felt pressured to buy anything, and the advice that Chelsea gave was genuinely sincere. While Chelsea was the one helping me, Robert Bullock was around, and came over to comment on the dress that he designed and that I ultimately chose. He, too, seemed genuinely pleased to have me in his salon, offering his congratulations on my engagement. Both Chelsea and Robert made me feel welcome and comfortable. The whole process, which seemed daunting to me at first, was so effortless with them at the helm. I found a gorgeous dress here that was just a touch above my budget after trying on 3 almost dresses and visiting 2 other shops. TBH, I could probably have been persuaded if service wasn't so lukewarm. Darcy was courteous but never personal, and this kind of experience doesn't get more personal. Anyway, what I can say was that the dress selection is plenty but not overwhelming, prices are moderate, quality is high, and the space is lovely (and 3 blocks from my apt!). I got married two years ago in an amazing dress by Robert Bullock; the compliments were overwhelming when I wore it! While I was deciding, all appointments were warm, professional, and unrushed. There were two small problems later in the process: the dress needed to be taken in and shortened twice (though I hasn't changed in size, and had to pay for the second round of tailoring), and the bustle was never explained to me, so I had trouble figuring it how to pull in the (albeit tiny) train during the reception. Otherwise, I was deliriously happy with the style, price, and fit of my dress, and my interactions with the designers and staff. I went there because of one dress, leaving in love with another. The dresses are unique and of high quality. The fabrics feel different. That is my favorite part about this place. Anthony was great, in terms of both attitude and taste! The dresses he pulled for me was really flattering and unique, and he helped to pinned me in to see the finished look. The dresses are beautiful. It's just I don't feel 100% like me in the dresses. If I were a little bit more sophisticated myself, I would have chosen one of them. So if you are an elegant, unique and sophisticated bride or you want to look this way, definitely check this place out. My little complaint about this place is that after two appointments, I didn't really get to meet the designer. Maybe it's my low budget. But like I just said, Anthony was great too. I found a dress I adore at their sample sale (twice a year) which I almost purchased but decided against it the next day as it's not the most appropriate for a destination wedding. If you are looking for a truly special bridal experience, this is the place to go! I am getting married on a shorter timeframe so I went to three larger stores, which I thought would have the best selection, before I found Birnbaum & Bullock. I was really disappointed with the larger stores and LOVED Birnbaum & Bullock. I didn't have a clear vision for what I wanted but knew a few elements that I was looking for. I chose a few styles to try on and my bridal sales consultant, Tonya, chose a few. I tried them on and they were all great but I ended up choosing a dress that was the top of one style and the bottom of another style. They were able to rig me into the dress so I could see what the top and bottom would look like together. From the moment I put the dress on, I started crying and saw the whole vision for my wedding day and imagined how much my fiance would love the dress. It was totally me. In addition, both Robert and Steven were there that day and came over to consult and give advice about how to best design the dress. For example, we discussed adding different elements to the skirt or dropping the waist etc. I chose a couture dress which means that I will have 5 or 6 fittings and the dress will be made for my body. I recently had my first fitting and I can't say enough about what a wonderful experience it was. I was only trying on a muslin "slip" so I haven't seen my actual dress yet. This company is accomodating, they are helping me with advice for my hair and sold me a beautiful matching veil. Robert actually did the fitting!! Almost every dress I put on looked "nice" until I went to this store. Having a store with vision and flexibility was amazing! Although I don't have my dress yet, they have been terrific to work with so far. The dress isn't cheap but knowing the people who are designing and making my dress and having a gown that is made in New York is a great feeling. read more

Steven Birnbaum is such an incredible talent! He did my wedding dress and my sister's MOH dress and both were absolutely flawless. His tailoring is exquisite and his designs are all so unique. I wanted a wedding dress that didn't feel like a bride costume; something that felt fresh but with a retro twist. As the Mother-of-the-Bride I was dreading going to look for a wedding dress for my daughter. Since middle school our biggest arguments had always been over clothes. She and I were convinced our tastes were diametrically opposed and we would hate whatever the other person selected. Birnbaum and Bullock was our first stop. With Robert Bullock's keen eye and flair for design, he handpicked design elements from several gowns, creating not only the most flattering and unique gown, but THE MOST STUNNING WEDDING DRESS I had ever seen! He combined the neckline from one design, with the trumpet skirt/train of another and added cap sleeves. Robert even explained how the entire dress could be made out of lace, thereby satisfying every requirement and preconceived notion we had. Robert Bullock performed a miracle that day, in that mother and daughter were 100% in agreement. Yes, we went to Kleinfeld's and a few other places, just to satisfy our curiosity. Initially my daughter thought she wanted a Monique Lhuillier lace dress. However when she tried it on, it paled in comparison. After coming from the Birnbaum and Bullock showroom, the Monique dress looked like a cross between a slip and a potato sack. And it was more expensive than the Birnbaum and Bullock gown. The overall quality, custom design and attention to detail at Birnbaum and Bullock's made our choice obvious. The dress was the perfect reflection of my daughter's style and accentuated all of her positive features. I had a wonderful experience working with Birnbaum & Bullock. I started shopping for a wedding dress in Jan 14 for an Aug 14 wedding. B&B was the first bridal salon I visited. I browsed their collections online and picked out a number of designs. When I arrived for my appointment, the store was calm and the team was very prompt in sitting down with me. After the consultation, they brought out 8-9 dresses for me to look over and try on. They were all beautiful, and reasonably priced given the quality. One of the designers himself helped me with the process of trying on the dresses, and was very constructive in providing feedback, both in terms of dresses that worked with my petite frame, and ones that didn't. I had already committed to visiting a few additional bridal salons with my friends and family, so I went ahead with those appointments. None of the other dresses I tried on quite compared to the elegant designs at B&B. I ended up purchasing the first dress I tried on at B&B. The process of getting the dress fitted and altered was very smooth, and I felt great in that dress on my wedding day! read more

I had an amazing experience with Birnbaum & Bullock from the moment I walked in the door until over a year later on my wedding day. My mom and sister came to visit me in NYC for a whirlwind weekend of wedding dress shopping and after a couple less than pleasant experiences at other establishments Birnbaum & Bullock was a much needed breath of fresh air. Calm, complimentary, low pressure and down-to-earth. We were greeted at the door by Robert Bullock and worked with consultant Mandy - who was wonderful. We were allowed to look through the dresses ourselves and all were clearly labeled with prices. Together we picked a selection of dresses to try on - she took into account my vision and contributed a few suggestions of her own as well. I ultimately ended up falling in love with one of her suggestions, a couture gown from Steven Birnbaum's collection, Paige. I had a seamless fitting experience as well. I worked directly with Steven Birnbaum, my measurements were taken perfectly and at each of my six fittings the dress fit beautifully with just small tweaks needed. At my final fitting he carefully explained the bustle to one of my bridesmaids. Steven was wonderful to work with very kind, patient and understanding in addition to being so talented. One major stress factor for me was that the dress had to be shipped to Minneapolis but Steven and the staff were very reassuring, handling the shipping and providing me tracking information. The dress made it to Minneapolis without incident and just needed a simple professional steam to remove the few creases that resulted from being in a box. On my wedding day the dress fit perfectly and was everything hoped for. I received so many compliments about how the dress was truly me and I felt absolutely beautiful. A million thanks to Steven Birnbaum and the crew at Birnbaum & Bullock for making the whole wedding dress process so calm and wonderful. So incredibly happy with my experience dress shopping at Birnbaum & Bullock. The atmosphere is so much more relaxed and fun than other NYC salons. Robert Bullock himself pulled dresses for me and made me feel so special! His staff were also very sweet and thoughtful with their advice and suggestions. My guests were made to feel so welcome and a part of the experience. Birnbaum and Bullock make such beautiful gowns in many different styles. After reading all the reviews, I already had such a great feeling about meeting the designers and seeing the dresses. As soon as I entered, they made us feel at home and as soon as Robert had an idea of what I envisioned within the budget, he pulled so many gorgeous dresses. Every dress I tried on almost felt like the one since they were all so beautiful with intricate details and flattering shapes. The second dress I tried on was everything I envisioned for my wedding day except that it did not have a sweetheart neckline. Robert pinned it right away so I could see it in the neckline I liked and confirmed that this could be done, along with other additions I wanted. He is truly wonderful, so down to earth and knew right away what I wanted and kept saying that I was smiling in this dress the most so once I tried it on again after trying all the dresses on, we all knew, this was THE ONE!!
