so... yes my dress fit perfectly in the store, but then I went to my friend's wedding and ate a bit (sigh!) and pop - the back seam opened :( These dresses are really old and fragile, so be careful, and think twice when you buy something that just fits perfectly! The hook and eye closure on one of my dresses was broken in 3 places, so I need to fix that as well. read more

I was visiting NYC from LA for the weekend and decided to try on dresses here because they have a location in Los Angeles as well. I came in not really knowing what to expect and I had no idea what kind of a dress I wanted. I was able to make an appointment just a few days before with no problem, however I wish there was a way to book online through their website like other bridal salons. Shareen's is a little bit different from your average bridal salon. The way Shareen's bridal dresses work is that she has a bunch of sample styles that you can try on, but ultimately your dress will be custom made for your wedding, so it can be customized exactly to your liking. You can change the color of the slip, the amount of lace, the straps/sleeves etc. There is no dressing room here so you've got to be comfortable being mostly naked in front of the people you bring with you as well as your stylist! As for my appointment, my two friends and I had the place to ourselves. We didn't feel rushed at all and we got to walk around and pick out dresses and our stylist Casey also pulled some options for me as well. The dresses here are exactly what I was looking for - they feel unique and beautiful without being too formal or traditional. The style is kind of similar to BHLDN, but a little bit less boho. Our stylist, Casey, was the best stylist I've had at any bridal salon so far! She made me feel really comfortable and I felt like she really understood what I was looking for in a dress. She was easy to talk to and just made the experience so much more enjoyable. I'm so excited to go back to the LA location and try on my dress again!! read more

Shareen answered the phone and made my appointment, fit me in the next day, and was gracious and searched the entire inventory for dresses that fit my desired "look" and some others that she felt would look beautiful on me. Well, she was right. Every dress she chose fit like a glove, looked lovely and classy, but had a unique touch and made me feel gorgeous and ready for my wedding. FYI: this store has a strict "no boys allowed" policy and no change rooms. The idea is that customers can just change comfortably anywhere in the boutique. The store's front (merely a red dress hanging outside with no sign) and hours are weird, as if trying to cultivate a feeling of exclusivity in customers (you're a member of our secret girl club!) while still courting publicity from every external channel possible like the New York Times and reality tv. No problem--in the end, if Shareen is able to keep the prices low and the rotating stock full of coveted pieces that you couldn't find on eBay without a headache, Shareen Vintage in New York will continue to be a fantastic place to shop. I had my wedding dress made from Shareen, and though the dress is beautiful, there are some kinks that I wish I could have been happier with. To start with, the girls that work here are SUPER nice and provide superb customer service. They are gems! My problem was with my dress. I had it specifically made to my body, but when it arrived, it was too snug on the waist and wayyyy too long. I had my measurements taken so I'm not sure why this was the result. And I definitely lost weight since I was measured so if anything, the dress should have been loose on me. It's just annoying to pay a lot of money to have something made to your body, only to have to get it altered. If it's written down that I'm 5'2" and plan on wearing short heels, why is my dress insanely long (and crooked) at the bottom? If I'm paying a pretty penny for a dress AND am providing my measurements, I expect my dress to be made well and to fit my body. That's not asking for too much, is it? In any case, I am grateful to the girls at Shareen for being so nice throughout the process. I just wish I didn't have to get work done on it! read more

*Five Stars for Frankie - young, fun chick who helped me. She was super nice and super excited for me* On to Shareen, her attitude towards me right from the beginning was short and rude. Frankie tried her best to help me find what I was looking for and we narrowed down the dresses to a handful. Shareen interjected only to make me feel like I was inconveniencing her. Once she found out my price point, her attitude turned even more frosty. She said she was going to search for a dress for me, only to find her helping another client. Once I saw that, I told Frankie there was nothing in there for me. I quickly changed and as I was walking out, Shareen quite dismissively told me she was sure I'd find something somewhere else. Customer service to ALL your clients, no matter their budget, should always come first. I've never been treated like that before - a total "Pretty Woman" moment. Shareen Vintage was just an okay experience. I expected the apartment it is housed in to be more glamourous and awesome. It wasn't it look very much like your average persons apartment but dustier, and rustier. It also wasn't sexy leaving my purse on the couch next to strangers. ( required of all customers) I didn't care for the collection. The only things I liked were made by Shareen herself. Which cost a pretty penny but the value didn't match the price. Don't get me wrong I am no penny pincher by a long shot. I just like to throw down a few hundred or so on things that are worth it in construction ( fabric, cut, drape, design). My favorite fashion blogger Karla's Closet ranted and rave about it. I wanted to love it. Another disappointment. Maybe the LA store so much more fab? Maybe the winter pulls are much more fab? Mission: party dress for Kate Spade 20th anniversary celebration Judging from the reviews I thought this would be the perfect place to go to find something no one else would have (can't wear actual Kate Spade) but still the label's feminine, vintage, and modern vibe. I rang the bell and was buzzed in. I liked the salon setting already (like I was just going to someone's apartment). The receptionist at the desk explained to me which racks to look at for my operation: the one closest to the wall (under $200), Shareen's line in a side room, and then in the back the real shit. I was really looking to spend $100-$200...maybe $250 so I stuck to the first two options. Just all too eighties! Located in an unassuming apartment building with its signature red dress hanging from the fire escape, Shareen Vintage draws in all the ladies in the know. It's an excellent welcome escape from all the hustle and bustle from all the other retail stores in Flatiron. Just ring the buzzer and wait for the girls at Shareen to grant you access in the building. I've found some amazing vintage dresses for under $62 that I can wear from day to night that magically fit my body. The key is finding clothes that generally fit (of course some minor alterations may be needed as with all vintage), so you don't break the bank with all the beautiful pieces abound. Tori and Sarah, two of the nicest ladies you'll meet, will also pull some dresses if you have a special occasion in mind and if you describe your general style. The collection designed by Shareen is on the more expensive side with pieces ranging from $90 and up to gorgeous wedding gowns that are $1,000+. They are all well made with gorgeous fabrics and prints. While I didn't end up purchasing my dress here, I wanted to write about the wonderful experience I had with Frankie, who was helping me pick out dresses. Frankie was LOVELY -- she made it so fun for me and my mom. The fabrics are incredible and the cuts were perfect on me -- not a lot of curves anywhere, smaller bust, and a shorter waist. Shareen is truly a master of design & fabric, and all of the dresses seemed to me to be of incredible value. Most of the other dresses I found elsewhere seemed to always be so gaudy, but Shareen's are classic, flowing (oh, so much beautiful flowing fabric!), clean-lined, and luscious. I had shopped many places before coming here, and I almost couldn't believe the prices...while not cheap by any means (at ~$800-1600), they did not go anywhere near to what a new, in-season dress usually costs (and these are made to fit your measurements -- no paying extra for alteration!). So, I can't speak to the process of actually getting the dress, but it was hella fun to try them on. Give Shareen a shot! read more

Every time I tell someone about this store I end up talking for five minutes straight and go into detail about every gorgeous piece I've purchased. The girls are all incredibly sweet and knowledgable, but honest- if it doesn't look good they'll tell you straight up and if your boobs aren't going to fit in that, they'll let you know. I'm usually on the fence with vintage clothes and thrift shops and feel kind of weird about buying used clothes, but my friend wanted to check out Shareen's on my latest trip to NYC, so off we went. We were a little confused when we got there since it looked like a regular apartment building from the outside, but we were directed to the 2nd floor by a woman hanging out outside and made our way upstairs. At first, Shareen's seemed a bit overwhelming. There are multiple rooms absolutely filled with clothes. We were quickly informed by the uber friendly sales girls about the differences between the rooms and we started flipping through the racks. We both found an item or 2 that we thought would be fun to try on, with little intention of actually buying said items, so we headed to the "changing room" (warning: you will be changing in front of everyone in the store, so this is not a place for the self-conscious... they only allow women inside, but still). Our first selections didn't quite work out, but the sales girls were soon bringing us item after item that they thought we'd like. It was really fun! Some of the items were a bit outlandish, but we both ended up finding really cool stuff that we otherwise wouldn't have given a second look to. Also, this place is great if you're petite or otherwise small. They have a HUGE selection of clothes in small sizes. Shareen's is NOT cheap. It's insanely expensive, actually, especially considering that everything is second hand. So don't come here if you are looking for crazy bargains. You may find some, but it's unlikely. Especially since their prices aren't listed out and seem very arbitrary (one of the girls just tells you how much something costs when you ask). Instead, come here if you are looking for some cool pieces to spice up your wardrobe or if you're looking for something awesome for a special event or party. read more

Shareen has sample tops and skirts that she works with you to combine into the ideal dress, which is then made to order. It is a great opportunity to get a truly personalized wedding dress. My best friend, who is a regular at Shareen's store in LA, emailed them and they told her I should come in. I stopped by and Shareen sold me an AMAZING wedding dress that was completely me. She found it in a back room, and it turns out that it was the wedding dress that she wore when she got married. She sold it to me for $72. I cannot say enough positive things about my experience buying my wedding gown from Shareen. For some background, I'm kind of introverted, and I'm not comfortable being the center of attention. So the whole bride thing makes me a little anxious. On top of that, this is my second marriage, and I come from a pretty conservative family. I was looking for a nontraditional gown for my small, intimate wedding. My fiancé and I planned our wedding pretty quickly, and I started to realize I'd have to choose a gown quickly too, so there would be enough time to have it tailored, etc. I was panicking about it one night, trying to figure out where to go, what to wear. The idea of going to some big commercial dress shop and buying into the whole wedding business just grossed me out. My fiancé saw me worrying and decided to help me, searching for where I could go to get a "different" type of gown. One of the first places he found in a google search was Shareen's shop. I looked at some photos and emailed her that night. The next morning I had a response, and that afternoon I had an appointment in the shop. Shareen is warm, friendly and welcoming. It was SUCH a relief to immediately feel at ease, when other places just made me feel uncomfortable and out of place. She asked me a few questions to get a sense of my style, then immediately pulled out a bunch of dresses and started trying them on me. I loved all of them. They are delicate, beautiful, and make you feel wonderful. On top of that, Shareen designs all of her gowns, so she knew what would flatter my body type. The other shop I tried was much more commercial, and I felt like all the dresses were designed for willowy model types. Shareen's dresses made me feel beautiful and feminine, and not self-conscious. I liked 2 on my first visit, then returned a few days later with my mom and my close friend. They liked the same ones but weren't completely sold on them. On a whim, Shareen grabbed another dress (something I definitely wouldn't have tried on my own, and boom, it was the one. The buying experience was perfect. Because she designs all the dresses, Shareen can tweak them to fit your individual body. For instance, I have Cuban hips, and need a little more room, so she combined two sizes of dresses- one for the bodice, and one for the bottom part. The slip was altered so the straps were slightly wider (so I can wear a bra), and slightly higher in the middle (it plunged a little too much for me at first). NO commercial bridal shop will do this for you and include it in the cost of the dress. I had multiple fittings, and she made sure that every last detail was perfect. My dress is so lovely, I can't wait to wear it. Bottom line, if you are a nontraditional (or self-conscious) bride like me, Shareen is your shop. She is sweet, helpful, and a perfectionist. You will leave her shop feeling affirmed, and well cared for. I actually cried my eyes out when I picked up my dress today. I don't usually get emotional over anything wedding-related, but I had such a great experience, I will really miss my appointments at Shareen's shop now that we are done. I live in DC and the wedding was in Southern California, so I was able to work with both the NY and the LA locations. She has a variety of dresses, tops, and bottoms in different colors and fabrics, so you can basically mix and match and get a dress unique to you. Run, do not walk, away from this establishment. With one week to go before my wedding the seamstress which Shareen sent me to ruined my wedding dress. (This was after said seamstress had the dress for three weeks and had 'forgotten' to do the alterations when they were originally to be completed). Shareen's answer when I asked her for an alterative seamstress/tailor to correct the work? "You're in New York, there are tailors on every corner." Shareen wanted to 're-make' my wedding dress (which would have had a delivery date of two days before my wedding-- after what had happened this was not an okay solution). I needed the dress I had fixed-- she didn't quite understand that. When I found a replacement seamstress, they advised that the time and cost needed to fix the gown (as there was so much that had gone wrong, was not worth the trouble given the shortness of time. I requested my money back and Shareen said no. I disputed the transaction with American Express and after Shareen failed to respond, they decided in my favor and credited me. What does Shareen Vintage do? Re-charge my card (without my ok) using the old authorization code! That is *not* how a transaction dispute works. Best experience of my life! Shareen is hands down the best at what she does. I traveled from Boston to NYC to find the perfect wedding dress that was non-traditional, I wanted that "something different". My mother, sister and I went to all of the popular named bridal stores, one after the other on that Saturday. After having a breakdown at two of the bridal shops about the dresses running to small and me not being able to find anything to fit my body type I was completely done with the experience. My sister insisted I go to the last store on her list for that day which happened to be Shareen. When we got there Shareen told me how beautiful I was and how she could make the dress to fit my body and accent all of the great things about me. She held two parts of a dress up in front of me and I started crying because I had finally found what I had been looking for. The next challenge was wanting my wedding dress to be ORANGE. :-) After my sister, mother and I left Shareen's that day we spoke nothing but high praises about how positive she made us feel and it really uplifted our spirits to enjoy the rest of our weekend in NYC. I made a few trips for fittings and measurements and finally three weeks before the wedding I got to see the final product. My God! I loved it, I loved it, I loved it! I sent pictures to my mom and sister and they loved everything even down to the color. Shareen even gave my mom and sister suggestions for the colors of their dresses so that it would compliment mine. Needless to say I received so many compliments on my wedding day about the dress and how I looked like a princess. Even two weeks after I heard nothing but positive things about the dress and how astounded everybody was with Shareen's work and how it was possible to have an orange wedding dress. From a girl who doesn't like to wear dresses or skirts, this took the cake for me. I strongly recommend Shareen to all brides, it was seriously one of the highlights of all of my wedding planning. This dress was made for me and Shareen's vision was spot on. We had the most fun collaboration with my dress. She spends so much time making sure everything is perfect and even went shopping with me for trim. I loved spending time with her and really enjoyed going to see Shareen for my fittings and measurements. I am so glad I worked with Shareen, it was a really incredible experience. After I got engaged, I put off shopping for a wedding dress for 364 days. Then, while visiting my sister in New York last weekend, she took me to this vintage shop she had heard about. It turned out to be Shareen's, and the next day I was on an airplane accompanied by a gorgeous vintage wedding dress that fit me like a glove. Sarah, who helped us while we were there, was incredibly kind and helpful. The boutique is beautiful, and as a vintage fiend, a dream come true. If I lived in New York, this shop would bankrupt me in short order and I wouldn't even mind. Though I was looking for a vintage dress, I also tried Shareen's "Erin" wedding gown. It might be the most flattering dress I've ever worn. I'm seriously considering buying one just to have in my closet, because I know I could throw it on and look smashing at any fancy event.
