I decided to go to Dr. Steven Kleen to have my annual eye exam and to find out why I was having double vision. He was very professional and explained everything as to my double vision. He mentioned glasses that had certain a lens to help my double vision. I'm Excited I have something that will help me with my double vision and understand more about what's going on, my other optometrist never went over any of this with me. I will continue to see Dr. Steven Keen, he's was great. If you see any negative reviews talking about glasses, he has nothing to do with that, he's in optometrist side, glasses are separate from him. Amazing service, from both the workers, manager, and doctor! I was initially confused on something regarding my insurance and the manager came and helped me and explained it to me perfectly. I received a text message saying I can pick up my new glasses at 8am. When I arrived at 8am, they were closed. The receptionist was inside and I motioned "glasses" at her and showed the text message I had received saying to come in at 8am for glasses pick up. She completely ignored me. People re-arrange their schedules, take time off work, drive out of their way to come in here. Very disappointed. --- Dropping from 2 stars to 1. I called for an appointment and they scheduled me for the same day. I didn't know if my insurance covered an eye exam, but the receptionist didn't make a big deal out of it and just called them for me. The pre-exam with the machines you look into was quick and easy. They also wiped down the chin and forehead rests, which I appreciated. Dr. Kleen was so kind and personable. He got straight to business, made pleasant small talk (mentioned that we both have similar prescriptions and that nearsighted people are rumored to be intelligent hehe), and explained everything he was doing from examining the pictures of my eyes to adjusting the lenses. I also appreciate that I didn't have to have my eyes dilated for them to look at the backs of my eyes. I don't ever leave reviews, but the service today was so exceptional that I had to. Don't be perturbed that this office is located in Walmart! It is a fantastic place to get your eyes checked! read more

They did my prescription wrong and I can't wear my new glasses and I've been coming 8 times to get a good prescription and it's always closed, so last time I went I knocked the door and ask for a REFUND, it's been 4 day and no money has been refunded into my account. This doctor and his staff are not very professional. Last year when I had an appointment I explained that I wanted glasses only. They decided that they were going to complete a glasses & contact lens prescription. Well upon my checking out they wanted an extra 60 dollars for the contact scrip. I explained that I did not need contact lenses and they were upset with me. I made an appointment this year and when I got there they said "We can't see you unless you pay they $60.00 for the contact script from last year!" Well, in the eyes of the American Medical Board this is considered "Upselling a Patient" which is illegal in the state of California. I explained that I did not want or need a contact scrip but the Doctor decided to "pad his books" and defraud the Insurance Company. The Medical Board, my Insurance Company and the State of California will be notified of this Quacks fraudulent & criminal deception. Beware he will defraud you too! read more

You'll find this place inside of a Wal-Mart. Don't let that fool you. My son was as diagnosed with a double astigmatism with one eye being three times as bad as the other. The doctor patiently explained.his reasoning behind wanting my son to wear glasses and why he needed to keep them on all the time unless he's sleeping. He was very adept at communicating with a five year old boy as well. They had a decent amount of choices for us to choose from and now he looks great and can do his homework without getting a headache. read more

I would like to say, I was very disappointed on the care provided by Dr. Nguyen. I was having high hopes of getting seen by Dr. Kleen and having my eyes assessed properly. The front desk, has a very welcoming and friendly attitude and was looking forward after the wonderful yelp reviews. I was seen by Dr. Howard Nguyen, and went for a consultation for eye pain. Upon consultation, without introducing himself, he told me to "sit" and pointed to a big chair like I was a dog. He provided very vague explanation and condescending of why I was having an eye pain and said in a rude way my "eyes are anatomically normal" dismissed my issues on eye pain that I have been having for almost a week. had very poor information of what treatment or consultation I should do. Stated, "don't know what to tell you" and just gave me eye lubricant, if he assessed correctly my eyes are not even dry. I asked him if there was other treatment to check if my eyes are okay. He stated that "well we could do vision test but the office staff didn't write it on paper they're just gonna do two different machine and take pictures. Other than that I don't know what to tell you."I'm not sure if he was just having a bad day but that is a poor excuse of being rude. Almost as if he ddn't want to do the eye exam and the patients are a bother. As much as it was cheap, I would rather pay somewhere more expensive and professional. I can not believe that I found such an AMAZING eye doctor in my local WalMart! Dr. Steven R. Kleen.......Where have you been all my life??? Oh, Walmart. My son is extremely far sighted and needs to be seen once a year. We have Kaiser and as anyone with Kaiser knows...sometimes it is easier to go elsewhere and pay cash. I needed new glasses for him before the school year and I did not want to return to our old optometrist (in E. Highland). The eye doctor was good, but the office staff was awful, rude, no personalities...then they would tell you 5 business days to pick up glasses and it ALWAYS ended up being 3 weeks! But that would be another Yelp review. So, while picking up a few things for our upcoming camping trip at Walmart, I noticed how busy the Optometrist office was. Hmmm. That means he's good. "Walk ins Welcome" Ah Huh. That means I can get him an eye exam right now. "Come on, son! Your getting an eye exam!" What could be better then being able to shop while you wait? I figured it would be a rude "just-take-a-number" Walmart employee and some random first year eye doctor. All I stood to lose was $58. How wrong I was! Once you walk in the office, you don't feel like you are in Walmart at all! The girl at the front desk had a waiting room full of people, was on the phone with someone who obviously had many, many questions, she's on her feet making copies, setting up files, lining up the next clipboard for the doctor to take, going into the next room to give the patients the preliminary eye exam, answering more calls....and in between, answer my questions with a sweet tone in her voice and a cute smile. I did ask her if she ever had time for lunch. I was exhausted just watching her! Very sweet, very nice, obviously loves her job. I wasn't bogged down with 50 sheets to fill out. One page. Then, sign here...and minutes later, the doctor calls us in with a humorous comment obviously meant to ease my son and make me laugh. He was not a random first year doctor. He wasn't quite the "dinosaur" he described himself to be, but he was DEFINETELY the most experienced and knowledgeable I had ever been to. It didn't matter how busy he was. He took the time to sit with me after the exam and explain my son's condition so I could understand and in a way it had never been explained to me before. Then BAM! Lights go out! BLACKOUT!! Dr. Kleen sat there and kept on chatting like it wasn't pitch black with emergency lights blinking and pure chaos erupting in the store. I joked and asked him if this happens all the time and he said never in all his years has he ever had a blackout in the middle of an exam. Well, I started to feel a bit of a panic attack coming on. I am afraid, err, terrified of the dark (don't judge me!) and cute, sweet girl up front, still happy and found a moment to eat a cup of noodles, saw I was nervous and she gave me the cutest smile and said to me, "Do you want a Jolly Rancher?" I laughed so hard that I completely felt at ease, calmed down and actually heard my children begging me to let go of them, I was squeezing too tight. Long story for an eye exam? Let me first tell you I have been to 3 optometrists in the past 6 months. To find one that really takes the time for you and listens to your concerns is a find to say the least. Well I found that optometrist. The doctor at Wall-Mart is one of the very best I have ever been to. He took his time and made me feel very comfortable when fitting my contacts. I was given all information about all my choices. I was not rushed at all which is very nice. I was given several different contacts to wear at a week at a time until I felt comfortable with the correct lens. I am so happy with the outcome. I would recommend this Vision Center to everyone that wants that person on person comfort. One of the best for sure! read more

We went in to look at frames for my son's first pair of glasses. First of all, there was a very small waiting area that people were squeezed into. I had my certified service dog with me, for balance/mobility and PTS he was under my chair as instructed when he "alerted" (barked). I immediately corrected him as he is learning the "alert" command to let others know if I collapse and need "help" for a medical condition. He quieted down. The doctor came out spoke to the clerk/tech at the front approx. 2 ft from me to ask if "it" was a "real" service dog, etc. The tech then came and said the doctor "likes dogs....." I interjected, "that is very nice that you (as I looked at the doctor who had not had the courage to initially speak to me,) however, he is not a "dog" he is a certified service dog who helps me with medical issues. I then inquired of the doctor, have you never had a patient/customer with a guide dog? Absolutely not. Needless to say we will never return there, the doctor discriminates and while I can function without my awesome assistant others cannot and should not have to. Now if the service dog is disruptive etc. that is def time to remove your dog and do some more training. Please also know that I politely offered my verification card showing service dog status. read more

Don't waste your insurance $ on this office at the Yucca Valley Walmart!! You do NOT get a full prescription that you can use online {many of us can't afford a brick store's rigged prices so online is our only option}...I believe this office is strictly set up to enrich Walmart's optometry department. The script leaves out a few important measurements {you can't order online without these} and when I called them they offered to add 1 of the missing components for an extra $10! These scam artists have stolen my medicare eyeglass dollar and left me with no glasses. I now have to try to save enough to drive 120 miles to find a $99 deal. I am going to report this to medicare/medical as I consider this absolute fraud & we should not enrich these 1%ers with the taxpayers money. The so called doctor didn't even ask me if I wanted trifocals, just wrote it on the script! I did NOT want trifocals. The machines & the girls in the office do everything, the "doc" is just window dressing. I wish I had a pair of glasses I could see thru!! {so do all the all the other drivers out there} They should in the very least have to put up a sign warning customers that they will not be able to use their prescriptions online. read more

I LOVE coming here for my exams. Dr. Kleen is always pleasant and very professional. He's also very informative! I've never had a doctor take a picture of my eye and explain the difference between my eye and a cataract one. He showed me the difference between a typical vein and one of a person who has diabetes. He took time not only to give me a comprehensive examination, but to ask about my vision experiences and my needs, so that I would not be leaving with less (or more) than what I needed. I went to Walmart to have a "follow up visit" on the contacts I was trying out, which were prescribed by the other optometrist at the same Walmart. Luckily, Dr. Kleen, who I believe is the owner of this franchise, was there that day. I did not only receive a "follow up." Dr. Kleen listened to my concerns about the contacts AND the glasses prescribed, and gave me a complete re-exam. We re-ordered my glasses in a slightly higher distance prescription, He brought me out to the optician, and explained to her that my next pair need to have "levels?" of progression than the first lenses. He asked her to readjust my current pair of glasses so that I could see distance while driving, without having to place the glasses way down on my nose, while waiting for the new lenses to be made. Not done YET... Telling me that he wanted to "take [me] as far as possible during this appointment," he had me try on different contact lenses in each eye, asked me to walk around the store to try them out, and to report back to him. In this manner, we tried out three different sets until BOTH he and I were satisfied. I was thrilled when I left his office, at how well I could see (both far and near) with the new contacts, and that I would be getting a new prescription for my glasses which would be better suited to me. I agree with all previous 5 STAR reviews. Dr. Kleen is the best. He took photos of my eyes to explaion to me if there were health issues. He also compared my eye photos to other eye photos to explain different illnesses. None of my friends have ever heard of any eye doctor doing this. We were all IMPRESSED. I came in without an appointment and after filling out the usual first time forms, got right in without waiting at all. Very pleasant receptionist/staff. I purposely went to see Dr. Kleen because he has such FANTASTIC reviews and I agree, he is AMAZING. He's happy to answer any and all questions. I read an earlier post by Jovani that was so off the mark I felt I should respond. I had torn my last contact lens the prior evening and called Dr. Kleen for help. To my surprise he was willing to come to the office two hours early the next morning to give me a new pair so I did not have to miss work. When we arrived to his front door there was a trucking company/delivery guy stacking thousands of water bottles in front of his only entrance to his office. I was dumbfounded but Dr. Kleen calmly showed the delivery man that where he was stacking his water bottles was preventing the door from opening. He then explained that by Law, his door must open and latch to allow access to medical care for individuals with mobility disabilities (The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990). At that point the delivery man still had the industrial jack/dolly that could easily move the pallets the several inches to the right to allow his door to open and latch. His response was, "I'm too busy to move the water", and he left. A few minutes later he returned and again Dr. Kleen asked the trucking/delivery guy if he could move the 4 foot high stack of water several inches to the right so that his office door cold open. This time the delivery guy said, "The store manager told me to stack the bottles in front of your door". Dr. Kleen then said, "I know that's not true because I've talked with John (the store manager) several times about the stacking of merchandise blocking the door". He went on to say that the Store Manager told him to continue to ask the delivery people to move the merchandise until they either do or don't and then your can just move it yourself. So Dr. Kleen repeated several times, "please move the water two inches so that I can open my door". When he would not, then Dr. Kleen as directed by the Store Manager, began to move the bottles himself. At this point, he was not happy about the interaction. I can understand her reaction if all she saw was the last few minutes but I watched the entire 20 minute ordeal and I was appalled as my Doctor was made to be the bad guy when all the delivery guy had to do was move the bottles several inches with his lift. I think the delivery guy's pompous attitude from the beginning is what bothered me the most. Just thought I should set the record straight. I wonder just how charitable Jovani would have been had this same man parked his truck in front of HER car, preventing her from opening her door and then wise-cracked arrogantly that he was too busy to move his truck or that the Store Manager told him to park his truck in front of her car. read more
