Highland Optometrics in Highland, CA is a place I really wanted to keep loving, especially after being a longtime patient for over a decade, but my recent visits have been disappointing. The office feels understaffed, and the overall patient experience has slipped, particularly around communication and flow. On my last visit, I waited more than thirty minutes past my scheduled appointment and still had not completed the intake process, largely because the focus seemed to be on sales rather than patient care. Eventually I made the call to leave without being seen, which was frustrating and not a decision I took lightly. After years of loyalty, this experience made it clear that I will be taking my business elsewhere, and I hope the practice is able to refocus on patient service in the future. read more

I can't believe the incompetence of the scheduling employees at this business. I have been waiting MONTHS for my appt next week, and I just received a phone call that they do not take my insurance plan, after all this time. I called to make an appointment months ago and didn't have the proper name of my coverage. Even though they are in my book of providers, they would not assist me in accessing the info they needed. After spending an unbelievable amount of time trying to find what they needed, I was told that they actually do accept my insurance plan. I had to wait months for an appointment. Today, I get this call that they made a mistake or something and don't take my insurance plan, after all, with no regard, what so ever, for all the time it has cost me! I've been going to Highland optometrics for quite a few years. The doctors are very good and thorough. Last two times I went to purchase new glasses the male who is the only one who adjust the glasses was very reluctant and not helpful. After several minutes of the saying these don't appear to fit right and feeling like he did not want to do his job, I actually left. I eventually went to a different facility to have it adjusted. It's really a shame that a customer has to talk an employee into doing their job. They need to find someone else that is willing to be customer friendly and do their job. read more

I have been going here for four years! I was referred here and I have referred friends here. I love the time, patience, and effort that Doug spends with me. I have what I think is a horribly crooked face when it comes to fitting my glasses (AND sunglasses), and I am beyond picky about it! But, he remains friendly and jokes with me. The time to book an appointment for an exam is very accommodating. And I was told two weeks for my glasses and I got a call in a week. Woo hoo! Love this place! read more

I came in because I have been getting migraines again and wanted to see if my eye sight was a factor. Fortunately, it wasn't, in fact, Dr. Stinson said I had fighter pilot vision! He explained every part of the eye and what he was checking for very well. I am a nerd so I love to learn but it was nice that he is so thorough. I did end up getting glasses to help ease my eyes since I work on the computer screen all day and that was a painless process. They explained my insurance coverage well and I was in and out of the office in less than an hour, glasses purchased and all. Overall... I have been going to High Land optometrics for years and years. Their eye-ware technician, Doug, is an extremely nice person who is a joy to talk to. Dr. Stinson is an outstanding doctor. He is polite, knowledgeable, and has a certain quality about him that lets you trust him. He is a no-nonsense kind of guy, not like some of the doctors out there who crack bad jokes or take forever to come to your room. It makes me sad to be writing a one star review but my experience every time I interact with front desk just gets worse and worse. I have been coming here for 18 years and as receptionists have changed they customer service had become awful. Most recently I called just for help with understanding my prescription to be able to order my contacts online and she was so rude and insisted that my prescription was expired even though I had a copy of it right in front of me with Dr. Stinson's signature and an expiration date at end of year 2021. After her arguing with me for a few minutes and me offering to email the copy I had so she could help me she straight up refused to help. This was the last straw after multiple negative encounters with front desk. Do yourself a favor and just find a different office to go to- not worth it. They will take your money and then refuse to help their clients if you aren't there to pay. read more

I just went to my appointment where I was charged an additional 25 dollars for a previous appointment that I canceled. When I told the lady at the front desk it was an error she just looked at me and told me to fill out a form then went ahead and charged it anyways. I recently have had vision problems for the first time in my life. My exam was extremely thorough, though it's been years since I had an eye exam, I was impressed by the number and ease of tests. Dr. Olney explained everything very clearly. There was no wait for our appointment time at all, either. Now that I need glasses, the man (whose name I can't recall) was very patient and helpful, explaining my insurance and every copay or charge. I didn't know how good my vision coverage was until then, either! I would recommend them. I saw other reviews that complained of not being told about the $19 charge. They may have not done that years ago but they did explain the charge to us over the phone when we made the appointment, so no hidden fees jumped out at us. read more

The front desk administration leaves much to be wanted...friendliness is not their first impression and they don't seem to want to help...

I have been a faithful patient at Highland Optometrics for the past 6 years and have brought my Husband & son here too. None of us had ever experienced a problem until our annual visit last month. Dr. Stinson has always been very friendly, professional & thorough as has his back office staff and the woman who helps us choose our glasses. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for the receptionist. We have found her to be unfriendly, unprofessional & unhelpful. Their pricing/charges also seem to have become a problem with surprise charges & inconsistencies. When I made our annual appointment back in December, there was absolutely no mention of a new additional mandatory charge of $19.00 each for a new eye test (we did get a $3.50 "couples" discount). When the office called to confirm our appointments, again, no mention of this additional new charge on top of our insurance copayment. We were not informed until we showed for our actual visit and were told that it was an "optional" charge, but that Dr. Stinson was requiring that all of his patients have this test; how is that optional? My Husband nor I were happy about being greeted like this and feel taken advantage of. As we were finishing with our appointment, an older woman just arrived for her appointment and was greeted the same way and became upset by not being previously informed of the new charge. How can we trust that Highland Optometrics will not come up with another unannounced additional mandatory charge next year? There was also an issue during this last visit with attempting to overcharge my Husband above the agreed upon insurance price for progressive lenses. I do not believe that my family nor myself will be returning to Highland Optometrics. read more
