I visited Dr. Rice based on another yelper's recommendation, and now I am officially a patient of Dr. Rice's. I was most impressed with the flexibility of my appointment, and the overall attitude of Dr. Rice. Very calm and cool, this dentist does not make you feel anxious. He explains everything while he is doing it, and shows you what he is talking about on a screen. Also, for the first time, i felt like I had an honest dentist. He told me my mouth was in excellent condition, did not try to upsell me anything, and simply just did my cleaning and scheduled my next appointment. Only to echo everyone else - I love his practice! Not only is Dr. Rice incredibly gentle, so is his incredible assistant! I had waited seven long years to get my teeth cleaned and I was frightened beyond belief. I felt like this place was a little slice of heaven I imagined being there for 3 hours, but it took less than one. The shots in my mouth were painless. Now I've visited them for biannual cleanings and I'm back on track - it's something I look forward to doing every six months! (I wish I could go more - ha ha ha - no but seriously... I'm serious). I found Dr. Rice after checking a couple of different websites and seeing his great reviews + the fact that he was in my insurance group I called to make an appointment. Really great office, his assistant is also very nice and went over my co-pays with me. Dr. Rice is friendly and he explains things thoroughly, which I always find reassuring. Like many others, I had avoided the dentist for several years. I didn't like my last dentist in Philadelphia, and so I used Yelp and chose Dr. Rice. He is AMAZING! Kind, patient, thoughtful, unhurried, and professional...and all this on a day when his assistant was late and his receptionist was out sick. He takes the time to explain the processes behind what is going on in your mouth and why it is the way it is. He doesn't push procedures on you if they're not necessary, either. Hands down, BEST DENTIST & STAFF EVERRR! Patient for almost 30yrs, even my sons loved him as kids & now as young adults! My ex-husbands job switched insurance one year that Dr. Rice didn't accept. I had an issue, went to another dentist & had a TERRIBLE experience - the dentist squirted water in my face - that was enough for me! I didn't allow him to go any further! I wiped my face, removed the bib, suddenly remembered I had another appointment & left LOL! I went the rest of the year w/o seeing a dentist. Dr. Rice (and his awesome receptionist Ryan!) are the Dynamic Duo of Dentistry. I went to see them a few years ago based on Yelp reviews, and they have remained my permanent dentists through two separate moves to other areas. Dr. Rice is funny, nice, knowledgeable and fair-priced. I don't have any fears about going to the dentist (I always enjoy dental visits!) but I really prefer a personable dentist who remembers me and has a sense of humor. Dr. Rice is all this and more. And whenever I call, I know I won't have a two-month wait for an appointment...they can always fit me in very soon. I haven't been to a dentist in an embarrassing amount of time, but finally decided to pony up and make an appointment. I looked at many reviews and decided that Dr. Steven Rice would be my best bet. The reviews say he is top notch and that is the truth! I was super anxious coming in, and that did not phase anyone. Jackie, the hygienist, cleaned me up, cracked a few jokes, even offered me a stress ball. Dr. Rice actually complimented my teeth and I made a follow up appointment for a few fillings. The receptionist was very kind when making my appointments, and even was able to give me a quote on the spot for the future fillings. OK I went to see Dr. Rice because my wife kept telling me how great he is. I'm happy to confirm that. The general office/front-desk operation is handled very well. Dr. Rice handled things as a true professional: he advised me that I did not need a certain procedure done, even though I had already resigned myself to paying for it. I can't say enough about Dr. Rice and all his assistant and the receptionist as well..who always sends reminder emails as to the appt. Dr. Rice puts you so at ease, he has a great sense of humor, he is gentle as is his assistant, she even has a talent to understand my garbilled words when we chit chat while she cleans my teeth..lol..and her smile and sense of humor matches Dr. Rice. Both my fiance and myself have been going to him for about 3 yrs now..and glad i found him. He is never overbooked (even though he's a top rated-dentist) you hardly ever wait an hour to see him..things flow pretty well most times he might just have one person waiting if at all..and one he's working on when i arrive. Nice bright center city office..and easy to get to by transportation as its a couple blocks off broad. I am not one for dentists ..i came from a family where u only went to one..when you gpt a tooth ache or one fell out..we all had a fear but again, he's a great doctor and also gives you options on anything more major he has to do if there are any..and does not automatticaly look for the the most expensive way to go..to make a buck as some do.. read more

When I first moved to Philadelphia, I decided to look through reviews and found Dr. Rice. He is one of those rare older generation doctors that takes time with you and answers all your questions. First time I've ever looked forward to visiting my dentist. I've been with him several years now, and one of my favorite things about him is that he's a specialist, not a salesperson. I've been to offices where they bombard you with special offers on every cosmetic treatment under the sun. The funny thing with Dr. Rice is he doesn't seem to care about sales, just the patient. I asked him about getting teeth whitening from him and he told me the at home treatments are just as effective and much more affordable. The office is pleasant and the other people there are cheerful. Dr. Rice is a bit of a jokester - so expect a little humor with your treatment. I wish all my doctors gave me this kind of attention. After my previous dentist, I was worried about visits. The one I was going to before totally ignored me when I told her the drill was hurting my gums - she just said "it shouldn't hurt, don't worry". Seriously!? If you've had bad experiences with another dentist I highly recommend checking out Dr Rice - he is worth every penny and the first dentist I can recommend wholeheartedly. read more
