Dr. Bae is amazing. He saved me hundreds of dollars by telling me what my insurance could cover that no other optometrist ever told me about. Apparently I was qualified for free medically necessary contacts due to my high myopia and my previous optometrist was just charging me full price on contacts when they could have been free. Dr. Bae also told me my insurance covered free computer glasses and I absolutely love them and feel like they're helping a lot with my eye strain looking at screens all day. As someone with high myopia I appreciate that Dr Bae has many other high myopia patients and he really takes his time to get the right prescription for you. I have been to many optometrists in the past that just try to get you in and out as soon as possible and have even had optometrists get my prescription wrong, but Dr. Bae thoroughly takes his time with you and I can see really clearly now. Dr. bae is also just fun to talk to in general and has great bedside manner. I always feel really comfortable asking him any question and he always gives very thoughtful and detailed answers. Not the greatest listener, and while it's certainly not the first time someone's joked about eating my pet rabbits... can we just NOT do that? Please?! From there, he insinuated that my allergy doctor didn't do a thorough job and suggested that folks allergic to pets get rid of them rather than treat the symptoms. From a strictly scientific point of view, sure, that works... and trust me, I do love me some scientific reasoning. ... but ew. My first appointment with Dr Bae was only yesterday, but I know if I ever have another appointment at his office I will feel just the same (which is good)! Upon getting health insurance from my job, I knew I should see an optometrist as soon as I could, and Dr Bae's office is only about a 4-5 minute drive from my house. I must admit I first called this office to make an appointment because I liked his last name (if you are a young person on the internet, you may know why), and I felt better once I read all the reviews. Dr Bae is incredibly cool, funny, and friendly, and even laughed and didnt get angry or upset as I kept flinching when he was dilating my eyes or receiving those puffs (I DONT LIKE THINGS IN MY EYE). He is incredibly knowledgeable and when he examined my previous prescription eyeglasses I rarely use, he said I probably didn't use them because they weren't prescribed correctly (he's right). His assistant is also incredibly nice, friendly, and knowledgeable, and was very patient with me when it took me 10,000 hours to find the right eyeglasses to fit me...especially since I will be wearing them everyday from now on, and I have never worn prescription glasses for maybe more than a few hour at a time. I'm still waiting on my eyeglasses to come from ~the lab~, but I weirdly enough can't wait! Thanks, Dr Bae! PS - I LOVE that it's open on Saturdays, which is extremely convenient for my schedule. Office is in a small corner strip mall (Look for a B&W sign reading "OPTOMETRIST"), and they have free parking in their small lot right in front. I originally came here since the office was close to my home and he takes VSP. Best decision ever. Dr. Bae is the best optomotrist I've had, and i've had a lot -- caucasion ones, asian ones, indian ones, etc. Since I am of asian heritage, it's cool that I can go to someone who's used to fitting glasses on asian faces (with out a prominent nose-bridge). That's part of the reason why I finally got glasses, after over 6 years of not getting a new pair, because I saw how well he fit my mom's glasses (who I brought here from RIVERSIDE because I liked him so much!). He's so experienced, he fits them like MAGIC. My mom is a musician and he fixed her prescription so well with all the nuances that reading music entails, she was amazed that all her previous glasses were so incorrect. My contacts fitting/checkup experience, glasses experience were AMAZING and did not feel pressured. He caught on SO QUICKLY with a condition in my eye and gave me great referrals. He also helped when my dad has something in his eye. He goes out of his way to accommodate, works with you/your schedue, and is an overall swell guy! if you're looking for a new eye-doctor, don't hesitate to come to Dr. Bae's office! So I just got insurance and thought I'd go get my eyes looked at. I picked a place close to work (same day appointment) and headed over not knowing what to really expect. Actually I was expecting them to tell me that I was fine and to go back to work. Sitting in the chair for the first machine check on my periphery vision I thought "Maybe they just moved in..." because I was sort of sitting amidst some boxes. I realized that they were just not so organized... When I actually met with Dr. Bae in his office he made me feel SUPER comfortable and made me laugh a lot. The first two slides I could read fine, third one got a little fuzzy and then when I read the fourth one he paused and said, "Yeah, I'll just let you know now that there aren't any numbers in any of these..." YIKES. So needless to say he had my attention. Turns out I have astigmatism in my right eye and he explained it all to me really clearly and was a big help and walked out feeling like I can actually explain my eyesight issues to other people without sounding like I slept through the prognosis! Then his assistant (who is very sweet) was incredibly patient as I tried on 900 pair of glasses. She deftly sized up which styles I was leaning towards and kept pair after pair coming until I had looked at everything that I may possibly be interested. It has been about five years since I have been to an optometrist. I always had below average eyesight but only in one eye. When I was fitted with a contact for the one eye five years ago I could not tell a difference and ended up not wearing it at all. Over the last year or so I have noticed that my eyesight has gotten worse so I decided I finally had to take care of it. I found that Dr.Bae was right across the street from where I live, and he had good Yelp reviews so I gave him a try. The experience was great. I went from 20/40 to 20/15 in less than an hour. He took time to diagnose my exact problem and had me try on multiple lenses until he found the perfect fit. I can't tell you how happy I am to be able to see! I really appreciate Dr.Bae taking the time to explain exactly my problems and whether glasses, contacts, or lasik eye surgery is the best route. Dr. Steven Bae is the coolest optometrist I know. I was very satisfied with my visit. He is very knowledgeable. It turns out that I had great vision and didn't really need to wear glasses. My previous optometrist gave me glasses with a prescription of 1.50 and Dr. Bae said that I was barely a 0.5. He also said that my glasses made everything sharper but also compressed (which is something I had to deal with while wearing glasses). I was happy also angry that my previous optometrist gave me the wrong prescription. I think he is my optometrist of choice now. =) read more

The Yelp reviews are well deserved, and glad I went to gave Dr. Bae a try! My previous optometrist(s) were okay, as they were part of a group, but I felt that Dr. Bae really gave me his undivided attention during the appointment, and was more than thorough with answering all my questions. When I brought up medical terms (I am also in the medical field), I got a discount on my exam. Wow! Though the actual office itself is very humble appearing, it appears that he has the latest technology to help find the perfect prescription and do thorough examinations. The auto-refraction device and even the projected eye charts are really cool, to say the least. I'm in the process of picking out the right contacts for me, and he has been great in giving me the options for different types and lenses, and even special ordering contact lenses for me to try. He didn't try to push for me buying new glasses, especially because my prescription changed very little. I appreciate that he isn't commission driven. He does communicate sometimes by email, but this is sometimes slow. Better to call the office during business hours to get a faster response. Love that he's open on Saturdays. read more

Dr. Bae has been my optometrist for the past 4 years. I first decided to see him when I was having issues with my CRT lenses, which my previous optometrist kept telling me were fine for me when they were in fact not. Dr. Bae was extremely helpful in helping me transition off CRT lenses to glasses and soft contacts. Since then, he's helped me out with multiple issues, from a scratched cornea (my fault) to constant dry eye (also my fault since I sit in front of a computer all day) and not being able to see clearly out of my left eye with contacts on. Even when I moved to Seattle for a year, I'd wait until I was back in town to see Dr. Bae. I completely trust Dr. Bae - I had LASIK done earlier this month with an ophthalmologist he recommended, and I am continuing to see Dr. Bae for my LASIK follow-up visits. Dr. Bae is extremely knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and explains concepts and terms very well. He's flexible and easy to reach; I feel welcome to walk in if I ever have any urgent issues with my eyes. I don't have vision insurance, but that's never been a problem for me here. Pricing is very fair for standard check-ups as well as for new glasses and boxes of contacts every 1-2 years. When I had issues with a box of contacts, he replaced them for me at no charge. I work nearby in Koreatown, but even if I worked or lived much further away, I would happily make the effort to come see Dr. Bae. read more

Been going to Dr. Bae for several years now. He is very knowledgeable and will never ripe you off. He would even give me a discount when I didn't have insurance. Around 1.5 years ago I started having horrible irritation in my eyes while wearing contacts and he diagnosed me with Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis. I had to stop wearing contacts for a month and use anti-histamine eye drops daily. He even had me follow-up 1-2x without charge. When I was finally ready to wear contacts he gave me several samples to try and see which would not irritate my eyes. You get what you pay for, though, because I got decent, acceptable service there but much better tailored service with Dr. Bae so I'm back.
