EXTREMELY RUDE, I called and asked to speak to the owner and within the first 5 seconds of the phone call the person who answered the phone started cursing me out and calling me all sorts of names. Absolutely unprofessional and uncalled for. UPDATE: after posting this review he continuously tried to call me and when I did not answer he tried from another phone. Then he proceeded to leave a voicemail again calling me far outside of my name saying that he can just delete the yelp post. This man has no place in the business world as he is unfit based off of not just my comment. but the many comments and reviews left on this page. 2nd UPDATE: Steve (The owner) continuesly calls me both during the day and in the night, to include early this morning from both the work phone and his cell phone. At this point it is considered harassment. Being that this company continually flaunts the fact that they are regulated by the Bureau of Auto Motive Repairs. I took my 2009 chevy Silverado to Steve's and they told me my truck wouldn't pass smog because the evap wasn't reset. They told me it could a several different things but they couldn't say what it was until they dug deeper to find out. They said it could be upwards of $800.00 to fix it. So I left. Later that day a mechanic friend of mine told me the evap doesn't need to be working to pass smog. I took it to Saviers smog and it passed no problem with no repairs done. This place is a scam. The guy is extremely rude and rants about how he is the best auto mechanic around and all other mechanics are monkeys. I took my car here for a smog check. Before even starting on my vehicle I was badgered by both the mechanic and the front office lady about my car will fail. This is after my mechanic passed my vehicle for inspection and all I needed was a certified smog check completed. And then Steve's auto service people checked my car and came to me telling me my car was not ready. I was puzzled bc it passed at another shop. I wish I sat in my car to see what was actually done to my vehicle bc I feel it in my gut that something was purposefully done to cause it to fail in order to take my money. Here's why...after performing the smog check I was charged $40 and was told to drive it for 40 to 60 miles and have it rechecked, however I would pay another $40 something dollars. Also on my paper work it showed estimated cost for repairs $138 but everything passed on my car except the catalyst which was "not ready". My question is if everything pass then how would this person know what was the estimated cost for repairs without doing a fuinspection? There were no codes, no check engine light, the car was simply not ready. Scammers! Stay away from this business please. The business owner is trying to justify his horrible behavior and lies below. An ok service and heres why. Its great that they are open on weekends, although hours may vary. However I am huge on customer service, a friendly smile and a great attitude will win my business any day of the week. I was greeted pretty standard, no smile on their faces. A little picky on older cars, I have a 91 ford ranger, although I was not rejected for service I felt like I was treated like a second class citizen, I wanted to see my car being smogged but I was immediately told to go sit down on the side. Which I did. I am no mechanic , so I am not bashing them for my car failing a smog, but having great customer service is something I really look for in businesses, no matter how big or small. I am military and we go by honor, courage, and commitment unfortunately not everybody follows these code of ethics. I brought My car in for smog. He told me if I left my car with him he would do a smog and diagnostic and he would guarantee pass my smog and he would be able to fix any discrepancies. LIES, LIES, LIES. After I paid him his whole attitude changed. I have never felt more scammed in my life. Your word should be your bond. If you can't do what you say then don't say it at all. So... I was in and out of there in a half hour but the mechanic failed my car and told me it had a bad leak and needed something called a "smoke down test" and that it would need a repair. Even though it's a full service ship, he "couldn't" do that. Said I needed a specialty shop. The next shop I went to said that the van passed easily, only needed a new gas cap which they sold me for $4.95. I concluded that this shop owner was wither full of crap or just discriminatory and for some reason refused me service other than taking me money. Another 1-star Review for good ol' Steve. I did not have the same problems regarding cost of service as the other reviewers. What I did have was two interactions with Steve (if that's his name) in which the hero of our story was ludicrously rude. Like so rude to me as a customer that I actually thought it was funny while it was happening (this man is like the Soup Nazi of Smog Check stations... and it genuinely is sort of funny). The fact that this man is still in business is shocking. I suspect it has to do with the fact that he's literally a stone's throw away from the Oxnard DMV. If he weren't, the villagers would have surely come with their torches and pitchforks by now. What was so rude? I'd like to share... After telling me that I failed my smog, Steve informed me that he could fix the problem but I would have to consent to leaving my car there for three days. It might not take three days, but I had to agree that three days was alright. Then Steve preemptively rebuffed an "imaginary future me" by saying that if I were to come back with my car and ask him why he needed it for three days he would tell me to leave, not service me, and tell me to never come back there again. BLINK - BLINK. What? The second thing was that, despite my better judgment, I called his shop the next day to ask him a question about what he charges for diagnostics (basically because I was trying to compare prices at a couple different shops, not b/c I was going to go there). Before I could even finish asking my question he started to tell me that he would not tell me anything on the phone and that I would have to come in if I wanted any --- and that's when I interrupted him and said "Okayyyyy. I'm hanging up on you now." -- CLICK. Seriously Steve? There's this thing called customer service that I guess they didn't teach you about at Smog Check school. When I asked for an explanation the older man raised his voice telling me it was in black and white all the while shaking his arms in the air. I do most of my own car work, but for Smog's I am always in search of a deal. I used to go to the Aliance at Carmen and Daly in Camarillo - $40 out the door, but their test equipment was broken two times I tried to go there and I felt the staff were shady in general - always trying to push me to bring my Infiniti to them for maintenance. So I searched and found a better deal with Steve's. Steve's is in kinda a dog location on Saviers, and there is ALWAYS a line, but I will go a bit outa the way for a deal. I have had both of my vehicles smogged at Steve's and I think my fellow yelpers are being a bit hard on Steve. It is a smog test, there is little Steve or his guys can do to influence the outcome. In fact the thing they can do that helps - they do - by leaving the car running before the test and keeping the catalytic converter hot it increases your chance of passing. In a smog inspection, you are paying for a yes/no answer on whether it passed or not and that is all your $24.95 entitles you to (the other ten bucks is the states cert and telecom fees which you pay at any smog shop - Steve doesn't get that money). You are getting a $35 out the door smog instead of 2-4 times that elsewhere, so I dont think anyone should have any expectation for special care or service. Here's a hint for smog in general: Cars made after 1995, if not modified, will almost certainly pass smog if the check engine light is not on or has not been on. If it is - get the problem fixed and the light reset before trying to smog. If you dont maintain your car, dont be surprised when it doesn't pass smog. Steve is definitely a character, but I think he is a nice enough guy - the few times I have been there he and I have even cracked a few jokes. He was surprised that my 265K mile truck passed - until i told him I put in a new engine at 258. The shop staff are pretty friendly too. Fernando, the younger guy that works there is cool too, he ammused me when I asked if he needed the gas cap key for my pickup and he just opened it without needing a key. If you take care of your car, expect it to pass, and want a no-frills low-cost smog check, Steve's is a great place with a awesome price. read more

Cheapest price I've found in the Oxnard area but the worst customer service EVER. When asked about the $24.95 deal he said the price is $35. I asked why is it $10 more, he replied, "I am a busy man, you either take it or leave it." I was so shocked! I wasn't asking for a discount, I was asking to see why the price wasn't $24.95+tax or something like I expected. Or he could of said, the $10 is a state required fee, like a fellow Yelper noted. I went here for a smog check years ago (2011) and I thought I wrote a review but I guess I didn't (or someone deleted it!). I made an inquiry about possibly getting a repair at this shop because my Saturn didn't pass the smog test. I was directed to the owner because apparently he was the only person that could give me an estimate of how long this repair would take. This guy was a rude and condescending jerk. I have done basic repairs and maintenance on my car before so I have a general idea of prices and how long the labor would take. He attempted to overcharge and he gave me an estimated time of 2-3 WEEKS for an O2 SENSOR replacement. Did he think he could dupe me because I'm a female? Or does he not like white people? It's unfortunate that he treats people this way and is still in business. Judging by the reviews of a lot of others, I'm not the only one that was treated this way. Years later he's apparently still doing the same thing. Addition in response to owner: If anyone was dealing with anything, I was dealing with you. You won't fail because of your location. I took our 2002 Toyota Corolla to have the check engine light checked out. I was there for no more than 5 minutes and here is the reason why. I parked the Toyota in the only available space I could find and waited there by my car while my wife parked our other car. While I stood there waiting, I hear Steve yell "What do you need!!!?" So I turn around and look to see who was yelling and again he yells at me with an angry face "What do you need!!?". I was shocked that a business would treat a potential customer that way. His attitude the entire time I was there was not of a business owner wanting to provide service, but instead it seemed as if bringing our business to him is bothersome. First thing I am going to say is, Do not go here! Went to this place for a smog check. I checked in at 3:00pm (business closes at 4) and the female attendant at the door told me that they were closed. After requesting to speak with the owner, the owner agreed to proceed with the smog check. Once the owner agreed to make an "exception" and do the smog check within the allowed business hours, the attendant at the counter became visibly angry towards me. I was now apprehensive about conducting a service at a business where through their non verbal body language, were making me feel that my business was not welcome. I attempted to express my disdain over the attendants rude behavior to the owner, however, the owner dismissed my concerns and advised, " You can bring your car over if you want, or you can just leave." There are a lot of smog stations that are more than willing to conduct a service in a professional and respectful manner. The about 50 years old man (the owner) has a very bad attitude, his staffs are fine. You can tell at the moment he starts to greet you. Well, I just ignored his attitude and look at it as a funny man in the last couple years. I have been coming here for 7 to 8 years. This time I was waiting outside, the man talked to me "what you want to do", I told him last week I brought my car here for smog check and failed the smoke test and today do the smog check again. The man told me "Ok, When I am done with this car and I am going to look at it- he was working on the car on the lift in front of the building. At that time at the smog check station was empty. While I was waiting and there was another customer pulled in and showed him the paperwork and then the man helped him first. I walked inside to the small office and was waiting to talk to the girl and the man saw me from the side door and said to me "Hey, be patient ok, if you are not patient, LEAVE" I was a little upset and said to the girl"What kind of business he is doing?" The girl said "Yeah, I know" Anyway, the first time I paid $42 ( failed with no certificate), the second time I paid $50 including the certificate. There is a statement on the receipt which said "if the smog check fails, there is no free recheck unless the repair is done here" If I saw this statement, I already left at the time he showed his attitude. NO MORE COMING BACK to this place I can find Smog check everywhere, why I have to come back here again to see his attitude. read more

The younger guy provided good customer service overall and completed the smog test rather quickly. This was my first time getting a smog check, and I felt a bit rushed into getting started. I was required to get a smog check to renew my registration, and I didn't know how it worked. I was expecting more guidance. For my TC, they charged me $40 including the certification fees. When I parked my car, Steve came up to my car and shouted "what do you want??" I thought that was rude at first, but I think he was making a joke. He was also yelling that to the car queued behind me. Maybe he knew him. Just a warning so you are not surprised when you go. They also charged me a $2 fee for paying with a credit card... which seemed silly for a $40 bill. So bring cash if you don't want to throw money away. read more
