What a REVOLTING experience! This place has plummeted down hill! Immediately upon entering you get the feeling of being unwelcome. A petite mid 30's brunette (I overheard her name) shouted "HOW MANY?! In a tone of annoyance & irritability. After "snatching" our menus & silverware from the front. Lifting up my menu to see crumbs, condensation rings & honey mustard still occupying our table. I began looking at my seat (Booth) to make sure I didn't sit down in anything. Only to observe the opening crease of my booth, looks as if its used nightly as a dust pan. Our waitress greets us kindly!! While taking our order the pungent aroma of cigarette smoke WAFTING into my nostrils & throat was absolutely disgusting!!!! At this point I go to the restroom, wash my hands & come back with plenty of paper towels to wipe off our dirty table. Only to sit down & over hear the "Daily gossip" among the waitresses leaning up at the front counter. They're socializing time could be heard "Clearly" in the entire dining area! Burn't flavoring with a hint of BBQ Sauce. Okra= GREASY/SOGGY/COLD. Husbands food, Mahi (black)=DRY/OVERDONE. Overly seasoned & burnt flavoring. Slaw=WATERY/BLAND It sucked! Paid our bill & left hungry!!!! The atmosphere made me feel, NASTY!! Dried up food all over the walls! Floors look hideous! Bathroom has never been dusted! Steve's is our go-to place for fried shrimp and catfish. Being a Louisiana native, it was important to me to find good seafood in Chattanooga, and his is superb! It took us years to even try his ribs, for which he is best known, and they are very, very good! We always get the bread pudding with bourbon sauce. It is served warm and tastes like momma used to make! The only problem is how crowded it is during the summer. They don't take reservations but you can call ahead and get your name on the waiting list. Also has outdoor seating in nice weather. I was really excited to try Steve's Landing. It's been on my list of places to try for years now and have always heard great things regarding their food and service, but boy were my expectations crushed. I went on Sunday 07/21 and had the most rude, condescending server I think I have ever had (we sat on the patio and she was a sassy brunette with her hair in a pony tail). She was rude from the get go and never returned to refill out drinks (after taking half an hour to fill up teas in the first place). We ordered immediately and our food took AN HOUR. Half of the table got their food first (I have served before and would never bring only half of the tables food) leaving the rest of the party hungry and irritable. 30 more minutes goes by and two more individuals in my party got their food but mine was STILL MISSING. 15 more minutes and my Seafood combo with catfish and fried shrimp comes out *COLD*. I proceed to send it back to the kitchen and it finally comes out hot about 10 minutes later WITH A TO GO BOX which I thought was rude as anything, pretty much saying, "Get Out," when I hadn't even had an opportunity to eat yet. After all of that wait, the fish was dry and the shrimp was mediocre. The baked potato was better than the main part of the entree. Every time I asked the server what the problem was with my food, she would either ignore me or have an attitude. I feel like they could have been more accommodating and more polite about everything when I simply was questioning where my food was after an hour and a half. LATER THAT NIGHT I HAD SEVERE FOOD POISONING and so did my boyfriend who ate half of my meal because I felt rushed to eat (since everyone else had finished their ribs an hour ago and was just waiting on my food to come out). Now I guess they feel like they don't have to treat their customers respectfully because they don't have a lot of competition in the area. Steve and his manager are arrogant and rude. We started out with the onion rings. Great flavor but a bit greasy for me. Wife had the mahi mahi and had it blackened for a little extra kick. Came out with a beautiful blackened appearance but was a bit over cooked. I had the seafood combo which was catfish and shrimp and jalapeños hush puppies. Catfish was PERFECTLY cooked as well as the shrimp. Fun atmosphere over looking the marina! Service was great, beer was ice cold. Had the cook pulled the mahi mahi a minute sooner maybe not over crowded that fryer for onion rings, this would be a four star review. Locals favorite casual hangout spot. Overlooks the marina and to the side you can see a lot of turtles. Just a fun place to visit with friends or a dinner for two. Best ribs around and I love the broccoli too. I am not a fan of jalapeno or hush puppies but my hub ordered jalapeno hush puppies the first time we went and they are the best! They give you honey butter to go on them yum yum! We get them now every time we go. Also their raspberry tea, oh my gosh so good, I am told they crush raspberries to make it & it's fantastic. My husband and I just experienced the worst meal we have ever had at Steve's Landing. We have supported our favorite local restaurant since they opened their door in the 1990s. Our usual choice is their famous blackened ribs. However today on May 2, 2020 we had to take advantage of their take out service due to the COVID19 quarantine guidelines. We ordered two blackened rack-of-rib dinners with loaded baked potatoes. We drove over, picked up the dinners and drove home. I was surprised/shocked to find that we had a total of one-and-a-half racks of ribs (one was only 8 inches long) and two overly cooked potatoes that tasted like leftover from previous day. I supported this restaurant for many years - especially when the pandemic started. We ordered multiple carry-outs and curb service. Then on Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend we tried to place a carry out order (while the Covid-19 epidemic is spreading in the county) and we were told that they were no longer accepting take-out orders. It was pretty hilarious when we pulled up as there was a line, no kidding a line out the door on a Friday at 5:00 p.m. One of the patrons told us if you get here at 5:30 you won't be able to get a table. This would never happen in Atlanta. There's too many choices and who shows up that early for dinner. I just happened to not eat lunch that day, so I was starving. We were promptly sat down outside where we had to battle the flies constantly. I'm not complaining as they can't do anything to help this if your sitting outside. I'm just warning you if you want to sit outside you might have to deal with a ton of house flies. No worries. Their beer menu is limited, but come on I know I'm in Soddy Daisy so it was fine. I also found it amusing that they had a selection of wine coolers. Their menu is witty and charming making jokes from time to time. I always enjoy this. The menu is quite expansive for being in such a remote location. Its your basic comfort food with some fairly nice seafood selections. Wanted to go for the tuna steak, but I was told I had to had to get the ribs, so I did what the patrons told me. Ms. Wonderful got the Cajun chicken covered in a craw-fish cream over cornbread dressing. We also ordered the jalapeno hush puppies with honey butter. The Jalapeno Hush-puppies were pretty delicious. My ribs were great. They're not my style, being I like more of a drier rib and a spicier sauce. Not better than fat Matt's but they were pretty darn good and fell off the bone. Everything is amazing - the wings (OH the wings - smoked and then sauced - a wonderful combination); jalapeno hushpuppies (do they get any better than this?); rack of ribs (the BEST in Chattanooga in my opinion - fall of the bone, flavorful, yumminess); and finally, the bread pudding (which will leave you feeling intoxicated with all that wonderful bourbon sauce on top - oh my - amazing!). It's almost Spring and most downtown eateries were closed 2-5pm this Feb. 2015 So we decided to go back to Steve's Landing. I checked hours on Saturday. Wella! They were Open all afternoon. We beat the rush- yes a dinner rush came right in behind us at 4-5pm. Tables filled quickly. We had the Shrimp Bread again! Yummy and rich sauce. I had Big Fat Chicken Wings. 8 were more than I could eat. A nice sided salad. My friend had Catfish, Shrimp, Hush Puppies, Salad and more. Everything was great as usual. More than we could eat.
