My boyfriend took a drive down to De Soto to get some steaks. He returned with ribeye's and bacon. The ribeyes were really good quality and they tasted great. They were huge cuts so we ended up making a few meals. The bacon is some of the best I've had from a butcher shop. It's nicely smoked, the perfect cut and thickness and cooks beautifully. I would drive the 40 minutes just for the bacon. No joke. I have zero complaints except that it's a bit far away.

They have fresh, delicious meat. It is predominately beef and pork, but they also sell chicken, eggs, pies, dog treats, deli meats and cheeses. Their bacon is the best! They have taken advance orders from me and everything is packed and ready when I get there. I won't buy meat at grocery stores since I discovered Steve's!

Have you been to the meat section of the grocery store? Tried to pick out 'prime-aged' or navigate other fancy marketing tricks just to find out that your steak was 'meh'? That doesn't happen here. Steve's Meats is offering up only locally-raised, locally-processed meats ranging from the bovine to ovine. You want grass-fed ground chuck? Last visit, that ran $7.99/lb. and that's an ultra-competitive price point for any other outlet. Locally raised porcine? Thick sliced bacon at $6.99/lb. Grass-fed ribeyes were on special, as was a 5 lb. bag of ground round (80/20) for $15.99. Mind you, these are only examples and no guarantee of pricing, but the point is that Steve's is offering up a better product at competitive prices, and it is entirely worth the side trip if you don't live in Desoto. And the flavor speaks for itself! Also, Steve's takes orders via its website and offers up frequent specials in 'bundle' style selections. Checkout their FaceBook group to see what Steve's is featuring. I myself have picked up their 25-lb. 'grab bag', a mix of cuts and options, at prices as low as $49.99. Two bucks a pound for a mix of pork chops, chicken cuts, and beef options? I've even shared larger packages with friends, divvying up the goodies and sharing the costs. If you can afford it, then stock your freezer! Lastly, and most importantly, my kids can simply *taste the difference*, and we aren't talking about critical palates here. To them, a chicken nugget is delicious. But they know Steve's Meats as soon as they taste them. If they can taste the difference, then you can, The pork products have FLAVOR, unlike the 'other white meat' options you find at your grocery. The beef speaks for itself. Even their locally made sausages and franks are simply unparalleled! Either Desoto exit off of K10 will get you there. Steve's will make sure that you make a return trip.

Steve's is FANTASTIC!!!! Great options for beef, pork, and chicken. ASK and YOU SHALL RECEIVE. The filet cuts are amazing and I've never been disappointed. You tell them you want a softball sized filet and you will get it. You tell them you want a three finger New Your strip and you'll get it. You tell them you want a 3/4 inch ham steak and you'll get it. You can buy bacon precut or ask for thicker slices or ask a chunk of uncut bacon.... I LOVE IT. Chunk your own bacon for dishes that need chunks instead of ground strips... THE BEST!!!! Oh... and I can't forget their pies (SO GOOD). Stay away from the pies.... more for ME!!!!!

The parking lot is always packed on a Saturday afternoon, for good reason! We come almost every Saturday to stock up on local meats for the week. The prices are super competitive and it's hard to buy grocery packaged meats once you've been to Steve's. We've tried everything from their TBones to the summer sausage, Ground round to butterfly chicken breasts, pork cutlets to wings, sausages to ribeyes, flank steak to bacon, dog bones to soup bones... I'm telling you, great cuts of meat. We witnessed the butchering of an entire pig (in the background) so I'm assuming you can butcher and order most anything you like. They have a smoker in the parking lot with ribs (etc) for quick easy prepared smoked meats too (come early)! My Yelp buddy tells me the eggs are a steal. We love Steve's for their service, their selection, their weekly specials and their closeness to our farm! Great place to road trip!

I've been looking for a butcher after relocating from PA. This place definitely takes the prize. Best steak we've ever had (including from my butcher in PA).. prices were fair, place was clean and staff was very friendly and helpful.

Brisket was unwrapped near our table and was dripping juices - spice rub and doneness was right on. The meat was so tender and flavorful that I didn't really need P&F's BBQ Sauce- which was also very good and a bit different from traditional KC style sauce. Pork Burnt ends aren't my favorite but these were tasty, very well spiced and were complimented well by the P&F sauce. While I thought the brisket was the star of the show, the smoked and fried chicken wings were a close second to the brisket and seemed very popular with the crowd at Discourse. When chicken is smoked well, it carries the smoky taste throughout tender and juicy meat and these were smoked well. Can't forget Discourse Brewing, I tried their Used 8 track Dortmunder Lager. I like German style lagers and pilsners and this choice well complimented P&Fs BBQ. Before finishing for the evening I had a Platinum Label "I'm a Dinosaur" Helles - it was light and not too hoppy. I'd have both again. Wednesday is Trivia Night at Discourse and while I didn't stay for it, the place was packed an hour before trivia started. All in all a great evening. If you like BBQ, Beer or trivia or want to hit a trifecta - try Discourse Brewing on a Wednesday night!

I was surprised to see they did not offer baked beans, but their flavorful potato salad was a stellar substitute. The cole slaw was also first-rate. Two BBQ sauces were available upon request - original and hot. Both were very good and nicely complemented the brisket. I found the service at the window to be friendly, cheerful and efficient with only a two-minute wait for my order. Recently, I tried their mac and cheese, burnt ends, potato salad, and beans. It's good. ...Just not amazing. The food seems fresh, the place always seems clean. The younger man that owns/runs the place is very nice. The parking can sometimes be an issue because they're located in a small trip mall connected to an apartment complex. Their prices are also just a little expensive in my humble opinion. The BBQ sauce isn't really anything to write home about. I would say that Off The Hook provides a very solid choice for BBQ in the northland. I like it better than F325 BBQ, Scott's Kitchen, and Wolfpack BBQ. It's similar in level to Char Bar, and maybe Oklahoma Joe's, but falls short to Q39. And I think it still has a way to go to beat Jack Stack BBQ.

As transplants from another state, and BBQ not being our first language, we wanted to try new things! They came to the table and we were all sort of perplexed. Were they supposed to look like...that? Either way, we dug in. They were cold in the middle, also a strange discovery to us. I ordered the burnt ends, which came to the table closer to cold than warm. The blue cheese potato salad was tasty and all it needed was a lil salt and pepper to make it perfect. All was going well, until my husband was about 4-5 bites into his brisket wrap. He asked me to smell it, and I did. It was funky! Smelled a lot like a foot and not a lot like a tortilla. He asked the server to smell it and they agreed it was a bit odd. The manager came over and denied it smelling like anything. My husband had finished his meal, and we weren't looking for a freebie but wanted to let them know it was a lil weird. Instead of acknowledging the potential issue, we were dismissed as "wrong." It just didn't sit right with me. My husband had some definite issues in the hour or two after eating, so we won't be back. I won't say it was food poisoning because genuinely it could have just not agreed with my husband. I'll put my disclaimer on here, I hope people do enjoy and continue to patronize this small business, it's just not to my liking.

Most of our communication was through facebook and email. She made it very easy to pay, I was able to pay for it from the ease of my computer at home. She offered meeting in person but my schedule was very busy before the wedding. She let me know of the set up time and they were ready to serve even before the wedding started. They had a beautiful set up with black table covers and a lovely buffet serving style. Both her and her husband kept the food stocked and it was always hot and moist. Our meats included: Pulled Pork with Buns, Brisket and Chicken. Our sides: BBQ Beans, Green bean cassrole and Scalloped Potatoes. Heather was preparing plates for both bride and groom (I was the bride) just in case we had no chance to eat. She also offered to take care of the desserts that we had brought, including the option of icing our cookie cake if needed. She transported all our cookies from our containers to serving plates and did everything so sanitary, including wearing gloves. I appreciated every aspect that both Heather and Scott brought. Our guests loved the food and talked about it all through the night, I personally really loved the BBQ beans and the pulled pork. She brought containers for me to take home the leftovers and was very accommodating. My two young nephews were at the wedding and wanted to help the caterers, Heather and Scott were both very kind and patient with them. My only complaint is that we were told the price of the sandwich, but we were not told that the choice of side was an extra charge.
