My $15 Lunch - Cuban Sandwich, Chips & awesome pickles!
    Denise Y.

These guys were out from 11:30 to 1:30 at our office complex. While I wasn't hungry at 11:30 I joined some of my office mates to check them out. There was a good crowd at 11:30 and the Nachos were flying out the window. I went back at 1p to get a Cuban and was in luck they still had food. My boss had gotten this for his lunch at 11:30 and told me he ate it all when he normally eats only half a sandwich. His was recommendation was good for me to get my own. I agreed with him that half was not enough. I enjoyed getting to know the owners and their journey to being good truck owners. It's good to know they post on Facebook & Instagram where they'll be located. I don't normally spend $15 on a lunch and I know prices are going up so my review is a conservative 4*.

First stop into KC was the Point and Flat popped up in Discourse Brewing. Set up in the back serving up amazing brisket, pork belly, sausage, and pulled pork. The brisket was amazingly moist and each bite gushed through my mouth. The bark was on the saltier side BUT the fattiness balanced it out. Along with this corn!!!! The side of street corn was the perfect transition dish. The perfect amount of onion and jalapeño as well. Where I got a little kick between bites of the sweet corn that mellows it out. I could literally eat this all day. Especially with the pork belly. Topped with a sweet bbq sauce it goes into your mouth solid but dissolves into your mouth when you take a bite. A great first stop in the KC part of my work trip.

Amazing burnt ends. I wish I could've had more but he was sold out and I got the last. I will be returning and I will say it is amazing BBQ with no complaints but except I wanted more!

Let's add a food truck to Kansas City's best barbecue argument. A rotating menu of perfectly smoked meats and super sides in Kansas City-sized portions will make your eyes smile and your stomach fall in love. The truck moves around, but it's usually in the Shawnee area, so look for them on social media. They're worth the drive.

Definitely my favorite KC BBQ. They serve out of (or outside of) Servaes, Discourse, and Friction breweries. The meat truly nearly melts in your mouth and I'm always wanting to go back for more. I believe brisket is their specialty and I've had amazing pastrami brisket from them as well. Also highly recommend their brisket beans. Couldn't be nicer and you can tell he has a passion for this. One of my current missions is to spread the word about this KC gem! I heard one of the local bartenders agree it's the "best brisket in Kansas City."

whatever voodoo magic is happening at point and flat bbq, we're here for it on the menu: full slab of ribs texas brisket brisket totchos potato salad elote corn our thoughts: ahhhhhmazing is an understatement we loved the flavor & tenderness of the ribs and brisket, even our non-bbq fan eaters raved about how good it was. obsessed with the potato salad, more of a mashed potato texture versus the creamy, sauce based version our tip: make sure and follow them on insta or fb so you stay up to date on their pop up locations and menus kiddo menu available: nope

The Pork Nachos are stellar! I haven't tried the other goodies offered, but I am certainly devoted to the pork nachos!

Still nothing and the waitress said the drink should be coming out. 25 minutes later I asked about the drink and the waitress confirmed the order was in. 5 min later and the hostess came with the drink. Food came out sooner after. There was musician there that night and we had gone thru 3 songs and his intermission before we got anything we ordered. Overall food was ok. Ribs are good and sticky. Burnt end pillows - you couldn't tell if it was just chopped beef. Not to write about the chicken sliders. Pretzel bites were like a cut up long piece with a toasted texture instead of a chewy inside. So we asked for the bill. Took 5 min to get that. We had some gift cards. Our waitress struggled with that and another waiter assigned. Overall it took another 20 min to pay the bill. The waitress came out with the bill onetime. I gave her my number for the rewards. Then, she was gone another 5 min and came back out with things for another table. I showed her the gift cards and she said she would come back. Another waiter came to take the cards and receipt. Another 5 min when she disappeared. The waitress came back with the bill with deducted gift cards and my credit card. But she didn't bring a pen. In short, they were slow in all aspects - initial order, drinks, food, and bill. What should have been a 45 minutes stay was more like 1 hr and 40 min. Food is decent but be ready for a long wait if your staff has more than 3 tables.

I have heard this place normally has a long line so try and go on off times. I ordered the Burnt End Dinner for $25.99 and it comes with two sides. I chose the baked beans and the street corn based on recommendation. The Burnt End Dinner isn't always available so if you see it order it. Trust me. This is my first time here and I was super excited. I read all the reviews and I knew exactly what I was going to order. When I got the burnt ends they looked heavenly. They were so incredibly tender yet still had texture. The fat had completely melted throughout the meat and kept everything moist. The seasoning was on point. Not too much but still added this great smoke and depth of flavor. Absolutely phenomenal. As for the baked beans, 100% recommend. They had chunks of meat in them and were both sweet and had a nice kick. So good. As for the street corn it was nice and salty, creamy, and sweet. The corn still had texture and was addictive. The whole meal came with three slices of bread and a couple of pickles to cleanse the palate. They also provided their hot barbecue sauce and their original. Both were amazing but the spicy is chef's kiss. So good!

The servers were great- so very kind and even told us not to tip due to the world cup percentage being added. The new restaurant was very sharp and spacious in the layout. But the only thing it had going for it was the server and the space. The food was brought out quickly but was not of good quality. My brisket was 75% all fat. It was gross. My 90yr old grandmother ordered their Crown Prime Beef rib for 38.00. It was literally all fat. The very few pieces of meat on it was very tender and soft, but she took two bites of it and could not eat anymore. My husband got the pulled pork and it was so dry. The best thing that we ate was our salmon dip appetizer. Other than that I was highly disappointed in the quality of the meat. I spent too much money just to eat nothing but fat. Very poor quality and not sure that I will be returning.

If you're looking for authentic Kansas City barbecue, Slap's BBQ absolutely deserves a stop. This…read moreis the kind of place where the focus is on the food, not the frills. The casual, counter-service setup has a true neighborhood BBQ joint feel, and it's easy to see why both locals and visitors recommend it. The restaurant is especially known for its ribs and burnt ends, and it's common for popular items to sell out later in the day, so arriving early is a smart idea. The barbecue was outstanding. The meat was tender, smoky, and packed with flavor, with the perfect balance of bark and juiciness. Every bite tasted like it had spent hours in the smoker, and the house barbecue sauce complemented the meat without masking its natural flavor. Portions were generous, making it an excellent value for the quality you receive. The sides were just as enjoyable and rounded out the meal nicely. Everything was served hot and fresh, and the fast-moving counter service kept the line moving efficiently even when the restaurant was busy. Overall, Slap's BBQ delivers exactly what people hope to find when they come to Kansas City for barbecue--authentic smoked meats, generous portions, and a laid-back atmosphere. Whether you're a local or visiting for the first time, this is a barbecue destination that's well worth experiencing.

First thing I'll say is that even though they do have designated parking, it can be rather hectic getting a parking spot and/or parking on the street because it's a rather busy street and they have a lot of traffic. I came in on a Sunday evening around 5:00, and there was still a line out the door and to the end of the parking lot. It was about 93 degrees outside and probably felt even hotter. I'll say that the inside of the restaurant, where you can order, is air-conditioned. The line, considering how long it was, moved pretty quickly. I'll also say that the menu had a couple of different things that were blacked out, so it was a little hard to decipher what wasn't available. I did look online previously and had a reasonable idea of what I wanted, but you have enough time while standing in line to make a decision on what to order. I will say that the staff was great. They got our order to us pretty quickly, including what they had to bring out to us. They were nice and courteous. Everything you need can be found outside. We sat in the screening area. The biggest issue is that it's ridiculously hot outside in the summer. Even though it is screened in and covered, the fans just don't do enough. They have some overhead heaters that look like they're quality for when it's cooler outside. It would be great if they had a spot that was cooler than that. There are a lot of other barbecue places around. They provide air conditioning. I know every place is different, but this place charges similar prices to other places. Even when I left a little bit after 6:00, there was still a line. As a matter of fact, it was longer than when I got there. A lot of people are in from out of town for events. I'd have to say, as someone who's lived here for decades and decades, there are better places to go that will give you the experience that this place has been known for, but they're not offering it, at least when I went. I went ahead and ordered the three rib burnt-in combo, getting hush puppies and cheese curds as my sides. I would have to say that I would have to give that a three out of five. The cheese curds were cooked a little too long. They had good flavor in the middle, but weren't as moist as I would like in the center, and were a little too crunchy on the outside. The cheese curds tasted like the last of the grease. The cheese didn't have a good flavor to it. It just looked like it absorbed the worst of the grease. They were made fresh. They actually brought them out to the table. I sat in a screening area. There was no air conditioning. There was a breeze from outside, and the fans were on. I'll say with that seating situation, we were sitting at the table sweating, even when it was time to leave. All the air conditioning from the ordering inside had worn off at that point. The ribs were nice and tender, not stringy at all, but the only flavor that I was able to notice was whatever seasoning the guy put on top after he cut them before he presented them to me. The sauces were either sweet or spicy. The sweet tasted like syrup. The spicy had a little bit of a kick to it, but had undertones of the sweet. That's not my preference, but overall, my food was bland. I've had them in the past, and they did have more flavor. I will say texture-wise it was on point, but from a flavor standpoint, it wasn't it. We did get bread and pickles that came with the combo. The pickles were good. I didn't try the bread. I opted for water as my preference. It was nice and cold, clean, free water. Tastes pretty good. My son ended up coming with me. Actually, he brought me as a Father's Day gesture, so we came the week after Father's Day. He ended up getting the burnt end with the jalapeño brat, and he liked it. He said it had good flavor, but the burnt ends were more fat than meat, and that the sauce really carried the burnt ends, from his perspective. He said to me that his mac and cheese was just okay. He said it was piping hot, as it came from the bottom of the pan. I don't know what that means. I'm not a mac and cheese person. He also stated that the baked beans had meat in them. They were okay, was his sentiment. That will be another three out of five. I would love to have more smoke and flavor in the meat, as well as more seasoning/soul in the sides.
