Went with my brother to a Point & Flat (P&F) popup at Discourse Brewing on Wednesday night. We had brisket, Chicken wings, pork belly burnt ends and potato salad. All very, very good. Brisket was unwrapped near our table and was dripping juices - spice rub and doneness was right on. The meat was so tender and flavorful that I didn't really need P&F's BBQ Sauce- which was also very good and a bit different from traditional KC style sauce. Pork Burnt ends aren't my favorite but these were tasty, very well spiced and were complimented well by the P&F sauce. While I thought the brisket was the star of the show, the smoked and fried chicken wings were a close second to the brisket and seemed very popular with the crowd at Discourse. When chicken is smoked well, it carries the smoky taste throughout tender and juicy meat and these were smoked well. Can't forget Discourse Brewing, I tried their Used 8 track Dortmunder Lager. I like German style lagers and pilsners and this choice well complimented P&Fs BBQ. Before finishing for the evening I had a Platinum Label "I'm a Dinosaur" Helles - it was light and not too hoppy. I'd have both again. Wednesday is Trivia Night at Discourse and while I didn't stay for it, the place was packed an hour before trivia started. All in all a great evening. Really good craft BBQ that is sorely needed in KC. Great things ahead and this is a 4+ review, leaving that final star for room to grow into. The brisket is really good, I didn't have a chance with ribs(pictures look fantastic) or burnt ends to give a more full review. The room to grow is the smoke. These guys were out from 11:30 to 1:30 at our office complex. While I wasn't hungry at 11:30 I joined some of my office mates to check them out. There was a good crowd at 11:30 and the Nachos were flying out the window. I went back at 1p to get a Cuban and was in luck they still had food. My boss had gotten this for his lunch at 11:30 and told me he ate it all when he normally eats only half a sandwich. His was recommendation was good for me to get my own. I agreed with him that half was not enough. I enjoyed getting to know the owners and their journey to being good truck owners. I have tried Point & Flat on multiple occasions now and I'm convinced it is easily amongst the very best BBQ KC has to offer. I finally got the opportunity to taste His ribs as They are not always available and suffice it to say I was throughly impressed. The Dino Ribs were the best I've ever had and the slab can only be described as utter perfection. I have had multiple interactions with The Owner and He is the epitome of exceptional Customer Service. He always answers requests via social media and is genuinely a extremely nice person. I will definitely be adding Point & Flat into My regular BBQ rotation. First stop into KC was the Point and Flat popped up in Discourse Brewing. Set up in the back serving up amazing brisket, pork belly, sausage, and pulled pork. The brisket was amazingly moist and each bite gushed through my mouth. The bark was on the saltier side BUT the fattiness balanced it out. Along with this corn!!!! The side of street corn was the perfect transition dish. The perfect amount of onion and jalapeño as well. Where I got a little kick between bites of the sweet corn that mellows it out. I could literally eat this all day. Especially with the pork belly. Topped with a sweet bbq sauce it goes into your mouth solid but dissolves into your mouth when you take a bite. I met the owner as well and he was able to explain his methodology and it's importance to the process of making it which was really cool to hear. He has different food on the Wednesday and Friday. Ribs, brisket, jalapeño cheddar sausage, turkey, pastrami, Reuben's and burnt ends. He may have wings. Sides are street corn (my favorite), brisket beans and Mac and cheese. The atmosphere at discourse brewery is like making new friends! This place is inviting and great beers to try. Definitely my favorite KC BBQ. They serve out of (or outside of) Servaes, Discourse, and Friction breweries. The meat truly nearly melts in your mouth and I'm always wanting to go back for more. I believe brisket is their specialty and I've had amazing pastrami brisket from them as well. Also highly recommend their brisket beans. Couldn't be nicer and you can tell he has a passion for this. If you see the truck, PULL OVER!!! I was at Friction this weekend to celebrate their 1yr anniversary and friends were raving about the bbq food truck outside. Now, we all know that good bbq in KC is pretty easy to find, but GREAT BBQ? That's another story. Well this place... they were great! And you can tell by the menu: only 3 types of meat and they sold out of the ribs in under 2hrs! I got the brisket and the smoked jalapeño cheddar sausage with the load baked potato salad (at the recommendations of a friend). That brisket is perfect. Beautiful smoke ring, not too fatty, but still juicy! And it all paired with their sauce beautifully. And my friend was right about the potato salad! I would have raved about this truck just from that side dish, but the fact that the rest was so awesome was just the cream on top. I have tried most of the jalepeno cheddar sausages at Kansas City bbq locations and this is definitely one of the best!

I have now stumbled upon this food truck and two breweries (Pathlight and Discourse) and both times were phenomenal. The first time I had a brisket bahn mi and the second I had a more traditional bbq meat platter. Both were phenomenal. It's rare that some new BBQ place stands out for me in Kansas City but Point & Flat may have some of the best brisket I've had anywhere in town. The baked beans and pulled pork were delicious too. I've got to say that was some of the best bbq I've had in a long time. I ordered 1/2 lb burnt ends, brisket baked beans, hatch chile sausage and street corn. It was all excellent and I couldn't believe how much brisket they put in the baked beans and not to mention how tender and flavorful everything was.
