Turkey Mushroom Marsala to go dinner in packaging
    Ian E.

I went into Carne Diem for the first time recently. I just wanted to check it out on the first visit. The person working greeted me and let me know they can help if I have any questions. I left that first visit with some to go meals. Then I came back for more to go meals on my second visit. They were a really convenient dinner option. Looking around, I noticed they pretty much have everything you need grocery-wise for a dinner. Obviously they have cuts of meat and seafood, but they have fresh, local produce too. They've also got beer and wine. I hope to grab some meat next time. I want to try the sausages.

This is a good looking store and the northland is lucky to have them. They offer local meat, seafood and eggs, cheeses, cooking-finishing oils, wine-liquor, kitchens stamples and more. A Culinarian delight. You can also buy frozen meats and some items on sale. I bought cold smoked brat (2) $3.36, Chicken Kiev (1) $5.92 and Pork Eye of Round $5.60

What a really cool concept, a butcher shop that also has prepared meals, as well as some hot menu items made there. What a great addition to Briarcliff, and located next to one of my favorite happy hour spots (Barrio). I absolutely love utilizing Too Good To Go here and buying mystery bags of products to cook with or premade meal options, they offer three categories. The bakery bag always contains some bread which they offer a good amount of varieties. But, nothing beats a fresh baguette. The bagel chips here are from sourced from Ibis bakery and they're the perfect vehicle for dips and spreads. They also have a tucked away display case of discounted meats and meals that are 33% off so, if you are about to cook it the day of it's a great option if you're on a budget. The selection of local goods is superior and the layout is easy to walk around and see what you are shopping for. Some of my favorite prepared meals I've purchased are the Beef Bacon Mac and Cheese and the French bread open faced pizza with mushrooms and pesto. The price point is definitely splurgey but "real food costs real money" and I don't mind paying for a gourmet butcher shop experience. Speaking of butcher shop, let's talk meat. I've tried some sausages as well as, a bison steak. The sausage wasn't my favorite flavor profile because it was a pork cream and cinnamon and was a little sweet but funky for me. But, the bison steak was absolutely delicious seared for a few minutes on each side in garlic butter. I also can recommend any of the soups that use duck broth because they are divine.

In addition to food, they also have a few drink options like bottles of wine and beer. They even have dog food and dog treats. The store itself is decent sized. There's plenty of space for a few people to move around. They do have a large deli counter and a few coolers full of goodness. Service is always excellent. They are always helpful and can even offer suggestions if you don't know what to make with what. One of my go-tos are any one of their sausages. They have traditional ones plus a few fun ones. And if you watch their social media, they'll usually tell you when they have a limited addition one. The Rieger whiskey and apple sausage is one of my favorites. They also have a chicken curry sausage, which is excellent and has so much curry flavor. On my last visit I noticed that they have mac & cheese that you can take to go. They have a few different varieties, but I went with one with bacon because their bacon is always fantastic. It was a really good side. I slapped it on the grill to warm it up and it was delicious. Highly recommend. If you are in the city market area definitely stop in and check out what they have.

A masterpiece on a soft but durable bun. I also bought a $5 pint of sausage "burnt ends" that I ate plain and mixed into a scrambled egg dish. The $8 whole smoked chicken was my wife and I's favorite chicken we've ever had. I'm sad that in Fritz's has been in operation 99 years and that I have never been in before this weekend. While during most of the year, they do sell lunch, that's just not why most people go to Fritz's. They're renowned for their smoked meats. Around holidays they sell smoked turkeys, gravy, and- most importantly- their 3 sausage stuffing, which is a must for our holiday meals. It is delicious! It can get busy some mornings with people picking up, but I always see people getting helped fast, the line goes quickly. Pro tip: you don't have to be there right in the morning. Wait a couple hours and come in, you'll be fine. Year round, we're a fan of their breakfast burrito mix of meats- just cook it up with eggs and you have yourself a filling meal. Then there's the dog bones.... Altogether, this is a simple and unassuming place, a bit old fashioned, but very much solid.

Trying to capture how delicious everything was in one review is tough, but I'll give it my best. First off, customer service was outstanding--Lyssa truly knocked it out of the park. She was so delightful, and I couldn't help but laugh when we both got excited about my sandwich choice. These folks really know their stuff. They treat their animals with care and expertise, and it shows. Having been to many fine dining spots, I can honestly say the quality of meat here at The Upper Cut KC surpasses them all. I'm picky about my food and can tell great quality when I see it & taste it. The Upper Cut KC deserves way more than five stars--seriously, I mean it! I also tasted my daughter's brisket sandwich--absolutely tender beyond words. And don't miss their Mac & Cheese; it's worth a standing ovation! Do yourself a favor: just go and experience it! I thought the brisket sandwich was fairly tasty, but it wasn't huge, the onions weren't carmelized they were grilled, and the brisket wasn't smokey. The Mac and cheese was fine and good but not great. If I lived closer and I could get the above with a soda for $20-23, I would give it 4 stars. There's nothing amazing about it to earn 5 stars even if it were priced like I wish. The place wasn't that busy, but with one register running, 4 people in line, and ringing up 2 butcher orders that came in after I was there, it took me about 12 minutes to place the order and another 20 to have my sandwich and side.
