I hadn't been here in years and while I like that it has stayed the same as the whole area has gentrified it is still the same. But it's also really old. The people, the periodically working TVs, and the staff. Good prices. Cash only. Bathrooms are meh. It's a good drinkers bar. read more

The building is situated in a very appealing setting. Huge beautiful trees in front and back by the screened in area, ground cover and plants. We sat in the screened in area adjacent to the restaurant to listen to the band called Home Made Jam. Our server Joseph was attentive and gave great service even though it was a busy time. Bonus: my favorite cocktail, an old fashion, was made correctly. I had a yummy shrimp cocktail for a starter and a tasty Chicken Tender basket with fries for my meal. read more

I always bring out of town guest here, I really enjoyed it BUT I went in with a friend all excited and she said to me 'hey can we eat first then come back' So as we go to leave we were yelled at & told that this was not a sidewalk & when I said my bad and went to explain I was met with a Very aggressive man being rude Not only was I disappointed & embarrassed but hurt that someone would go out of their way to be so so Gross to two women and so unnecessarily out of line. read more

This is such a cool CASH ONLY dive bar. Large bar area with a pool table and two dart boards. We love coming here before and after a Rays game. I almost don't want too many people knowing about it because it's not as packed as all the other bars. The bar tenders are super nice and quick to get you what you want. One more thing, the pours here are heavy and well worth the money. LOVE this place! Oh, and if you're sensitive to cigarette smoke, this won't be your kind of place. read more

Quintessential dive bar. Haze of smoke and whiff of stale beer upon entrance. Draft section and liquor rail that leans toward the old tried and true with just a smattering of the new dangled boogie juice. Full blend of clientele including a few that have the look that lets you know they've lived some things that aren't to be talked about. At least not for a few more drinks. Cheap pool table that still sports a couple cues that roll relatively straight. One of those damn new internet connected jukeboxes ..... sigh. (Can't stem the tide on everything.) Perhaps the one thing that does stand out about Steve's, at least in my visits, is that the staff seems to be universally friendly and inviting. Gotta be honest though, adding one gruff old fart behind the bar might not be a bad thing to complete the place. Bring cash. Buy drinks. Leave your pretense at the spots surrounding it, and you'll have a fine time. read more

For starters, you have to actually LIKE(or love) true dive bars to like Steve's. If you hate smoke and want fancy drinks, don't go here and give a low rating. Steve's has great beers and plenty of liquor but they aren't going to make you an old fashioned and that's okay. I love the location because it's sort of hidden but also a lot o the uppity people in the area would never think to go so if you're down-to-earth and just want a drink and some good conversation with a friend, this place is great. read more

Stopped in before the baseball game. We know nothing about the area and just sort of wing it as far as finding local drinking holes. This was one of them. We walked in and sat at the bar. The grumpy 50 something bartender greeted us with a 'what do you want.' We asked her what the special are and one of them was cheap wells and she went on to say "but that's not really a special, that's everyday." Ok, a cheap well it is. She slammed our glasses down on our coasters and walked away. We could barely get two more drinks out of her. We headed out to the baseball game after that. It is amazing how much a staff person can affect a review. This place was exactly what we love. A dark and smaller bar that is on the cleaner side and not super loud. It could have been the perfect experience. Instead, this woman bartender decided to act like a grumpy old lady and completely changed our experience. If you don't like your job don't work there. If all you can do is act like a grumpy jerk find something else to do as customer service jobs are not for you. As to the drinks, sure they are cheap but sometimes I don't want a cheap drink when it is going to be slammed down in front of me by the bartender. read more

Love this awesome little dive bar, always my go-to when heading downtown. Strong cheap drinks. Michael, Erin, and Megan are awesome.

Popped in here after a Ray's game mainly for a cool (as in temperature) place to get a cocktail. Definitely a dive bar. It was obvious that most of the people there knew each other. The one drink I got was okay but they allow smoking inside and the patrons were mostly smokers. Beware if you cannot tolerate a smoky environment. My favorite dive bar. Cheap drinks, internet jukebox, lots of TVs, pool table, indoor smoking, tiny bathroom, ATM; and they will over-serve you into oblivion... simply a great place to get hammered. Close enough to The Trop to make it a pre/post Rays game stop. Steve's Tavern is that bar everyone should have 2 blocks from their house. It's the place you go when you want a cheap/stiff drink. It's nothing more, and its nothing less, but what else do you need. You got sports on the TV, you got drinks on the cheap, you got a bar close enough you can crawl back home from. I went to Steve's after a long 80 hour week as a Professor and hard workout at the gym. The bartender refused service saying I was "on something". Oddly many other patrons were equally as out of it and as poorly dressed. However they were not black males. Infer from this what you wish! read more

Watch out for the old crotchety bartender. My boyfriend and I stopped in for a beer and shot and what we got in addition was an attitude. I asked for my fireball super chilled and she acted like I was asking for her first born. Mind you it was early evening and an empty bar. Went with with my pup. Was told bud lights were $2.50. Gave a $10 bill received $4.50. When I waited for the bar tender to come back she avoided me then sent the bar back to tell me that my pup pee'd twice and I was reported anonymously. I asked the guy where because as a pet owner you are watching who's touching your pet and where they are and he couldn't say where the proceeded to boguard me out of the establishment.
