This bar was a great one, right next to the Jannus Live, where we would attend a concert that evening. The Pelican embodies a classic "comes-as-you-are" vibe in the heart of downtown St. Petersburg where you can go for beers and drinks without much fuss, pomp, or circumstance. We had walked three blocks from our hotel to the Jannus, where the gates hadn't opened yet for the War on Drugs concert. Walking across the street towards that entrance, I noticed a sign for the Pelican Pub hanging over a door right next to it. Knowing that drinks at any concert venue are expensive, I led my wife into the Pelican to grab some pre-concert beverages. The Pelican is a great dive bar with a small L-shaped counter and a few high-top tables scattered across the main area. A handful of flat-screen TVs hang on the halls around the bar where you can watch whatever sports game or show is being broadcasted, with a jukebox. in the back left corner. The ceiling above the bar is littered with dollar bills. The walls were covered with scribbles from patrons throughout the years -- people's names, nicknames, team chants, and other drunken mutterings. All of this gives the bar its character. We knocked back Jameson and Ginger Ales at $6 a pop for about 30 minutes or so before moving on to the Jannus for the show. But the Pelican is a fun spot for your first stop of the night, pre-game for a show, or if you're looking for a stop to enjoy some drinks with some friends. read more

Typical dive bar: dollars on the ceiling, young people enjoying cheap drinks, and no nonsense bartenders. They abandoned the mask mandate well before other establishments in the area. The vibe is dgaf. I love it. As I walk around Dtsp getting some cardio, I always swing by for a quick drink. The pour is big, the bar is small. You could maybe fit 30 people inside( not sure the fire code) and I like that too. I don't wanna stumble around a bar the size of a warehouse and have to decide if I should just give up and pee outside. I will keep coming to the pelican every time I'm in Dtsp. This was my first time frequenting this bar because I was going to a show at Jannus Live. It's very clear that this bar is an Ally, and I'm grateful for it because I'm from out of town. It's hard to find LGBTQIA friendly places without seeking them out. BTW, Taylor is an amazing bartender! This is a dive bar right next to Janice Landing and it is fun. I've been here after several shows but didn't write a review before. On this night, I didn't drink, but my friends did. I just had a water. There is always music here, a dj or something and the place always has a good crowd. read more

Typical dive bar. I always wanted to come in here, and it's legit a hole in a wall spot. Writing all over the bricks and 90's music playing. They have a drink here for $11 called The Trashcan which has basically every liquor and a red bull to top it off. Quite strong! Enjoyed a vodka red bull and it was. Ice to taste the vodka! They show movies on Wednesday nights too. Cool spot to grab drinks when you don't want to be in an over crowded bougie bar. read more

Like the Hub in Tampa, this place is legendary for its no frills bar service. When you're too cool to be cool about your drinking establishment, this is the spot. Wonderful hole in the wall bar, with a flair for the youth movements. The bartenders mix well and the beer is cold. Wooden bar and dark inside . The bathrooms are clean usually and no one cares who uses what . Across the street feom the Hyatt Place and a goto for us when we arrive for lovers weekend . Stop in and have a few and watch the world go by . Tv's and jukebox with a good sound system. You can even order food and they will have it delivered. Great hole in the wall type of bar. Had a really nice vibe to it and the drinks were really affordable and well made. Everything was kept very clean and the staff was really friendly and the bartender had some really good recommendations and was very good at mixing drinks well. I checked this place out since I had time to kill one Friday evening in St. Pete, and I'm glad I did! This is a fantastic bar that has a nice divey feel without all the trashiness often associated with dive bars. First, the staff here is great. Alyse (I believe that was her name) was awesome. Friendly, motivated, and attentive - what more could you ask from a bar tender. Others on the staff were good as well. One thing I really liked about this place was that the "regulars" were extremely friendly. Ago an, not your typical dive bar where the regulars are rude or have the "how dare you come to my bar" attitude. Lots of friendly people in the area. As far as drinks go, I drink PBR....I like it, I'm simple. That said, it appeared they had a good beer and spirits selection at the Pelican. The place was clean enough, but the restrooms are a little worse for the wear. Parking isn't bad. There's a parking garage just across the street and street parking all around (if you're lucky enough to find a spot). I'm a little disappointed I don't live closer, otherwise this would be my new regular spot. read more

While visiting St. Pete for a conference, a bunch of us wanted to experience a local watering hole to get to know eachother. A guy at the hotel we stayed at suggested the Pelican. Being tourists to the area we had no idea what the Pelican was, so we headed over there. This is your typical dive-bar. I would have given this place 2 stars but gave them the extra one because of their cheap drinks! $2 for a Bud Lite makes me a very happy girl! My friend/roommate for the weekend bought a round of shots for about 15 people and maybe 3 drinks for herself and spent only $26 (without tip) total that night! Talk about very easy on the wallet. They also have a jukebox! The bathrooms are disgusting and have a bunch of written sayings on the wall from previous customers. Oh, and I learned when you're in St. Petersburg....dogs are allowed in bars too. So don't be alarmed when you see a German-Shepard at your feet when you're buying your drink! But with dirty bathrooms and dogs aside, this place was pretty fun because of the cheap drinks and their jukebox, which has every song you can possibly imagine. I'd suggest the Pelican if you want to pre-game before going to another club in the area. Or, if you're looking to have a fun but no-frills kind of night. read more

Pelican pub is the best dive bar in the Downtown St Petersburg area ! They got great drink specials including $2 brewskies and $2 shots, juke box with great music, cool blue led lighting, and generally a pretty good crowd. No visit to downtown is complete without a stop here! read more

This is a fun bar to pregame before going somewhere a little expensive. I enjoy ducking in here during the week to use the bathroom. The bathrooms were a little gross but not any grosser then any other bar. A variety of ages show up here to get their drink on. But I have never paid more then $5 for a drink here. I'm not saying they don't have some expensive drinks out there but it is cheap to drink here. Prolly one of the cheapest bars near the pier. read more

The price is right! Pelican Pub is a dive bar only in name! They got no smokey smell, great drink specials, great music and great mood lighting w blue and pink leds! It's a Fun no frills small dive bar in the middle of central ave Downtown St Pete party district with great drink specials! $2.50 bud lights, $2 PBR's, $1 bud select drafts, and $3 fireball shots all day, every day! Located next to Janus Live and Club Detroit in Downtown St Pete. This is always a good stop for pregaming before going to another bar. It's really small with maybe 2 tables other than the bar top and about 4 TV's. No live music or dancing. There's a jukebox where you can pick out some tunes for $1 per pop. Some of the music like the 1990s NStync on the jukebox can be downers when some girl picks 3 slow songs in a row and should not even be allowed lol. Pro-tip: Just watch the jukebox like a hawk, see what people are thinking of picking, and talk people into picking songs that don't suck! When no one picks out songs, they play some good top 40 rap and techno. The decor in this bar is actually really nice and not typical of a dive bar. There's brick walls, wood panelling, blue led mood lighting, no cigarette smell, and no terrible harsh overhead lighting like other dive bars. Service is quick and friendly. This bar never gets too busy where you'd have to wait 20min for a drink like other bars in the area but it is never too slow either. There's usually a crowd thats just right in here- Not too busy, not too slow. The bathrooms need to be fixed. They're in pretty bad condition. This place loses a star for bathrooms. read more

Weekend nights a guy stands at the door checking Ids so don't even bother coming if you aren't 21 (or have a fake). It's always been busy when I've gone ($3 a drink is unbeatable) or maybe it just seems that way since it's so small. They have jukebox which is always fun. I have hung out at this pub a few times now. I've been there on weekend nights and it was fun. It's a small, dark place. It has maybe 3 TVs that usually show sports. Jukebox is a bit expensive, $1 per song, but the variety of songs is pretty good. Good drinks specials. My friends and I don't stay there very long, but it's a good place where we can actually hear each other talk, unlike many other places around. My favorite thing about this place is that it is smoke free! One can actually breathe there!! read more
