This is not my first time using this service, and I have never had issues before, which makes this failure even more unacceptable. Poor customer service deserves to be called out, and this is a blatant example of it. My order was canceled with absolutely no notification--no email, no text, no explanation. I was left waiting for an order that had already been canceled without my knowledge. This is completely unacceptable and reflects a serious breakdown in Stop & Shop's customer service. Why offer a service you clearly cannot manage or guarantee? Had I not called to follow up myself, I would have been left in limbo indefinitely. There should be a basic system in place to notify customers of any order delay or cancellation, along with a reason. From a technical standpoint, this is not difficult--you already have customer contact information, including email and phone numbers. To make matters worse, after this failure on your end, I was forced to resubmit the order, make an additional payment, and now wait 7-10 business days for a refund or credit on the canceled order. This is negligent, unprofessional, and an unacceptable way to conduct business. If zero stars were an option, that is what this experience deserves.

Here is a complaint letter / email I wrote Stew's We are regular customers of the Newington Stew's. We shop there on a weekly basis and are always so happy to see how far the Dairy has come. We use to work in the Danbury location when we were younger as well. I do not know who will be reading this, or if it will make any difference as to what I am about to say, but I recently had an unfortunate experience with your Newington Caterer Manager - Jackie, as well as the Deli Manager - Kelly. We purchased a 3 foot grinder for a party that we are attending. We have purchased many of these grinders in the past - and they are always a HUGE hit! Well, upon picking this grinder up - the bread was smashed, the grinder itself looked so unappealing - like something Subway would make - there was lots of deli meat off the grinder laying on the cardboard along with stains as well! The appearance of this grinder was not appetizing at all. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. Upon further inspection of the grinder we noticed that it was made wrong. I made very specific instructions on how I wanted the grinder. Everything was right up until the 3 deli meats - they were layered through out the entire grinder - instead of there being 1 foot of each meat. I can not tell you how many times I contacted the Newington Dairy and was shuffled between Kelly and than getting transferred to leaving voicemail messages for Jackie. I waited 2 days to personally place this order with Jackie and she never called me back. I did not want to place this order online, but had no choice. When online, I was unable to write down all my requests due to a character limit - but when I finally did get a return call from Jackie she assured me everything would be the way I wanted it. After seeing that the grinder was completely wrong, my husband tried to talk with the Deli Manager Kelly - she could have cared less and did not want to assist my husband. So then Jackie got involved and blamed everything on the website - with a basically "what you see is what you get" attitude even after I made and spoke to her about my specifications after I placed the order online.... I even called back again because my credit card was never charged for the grinder, so I wanted to make sure it had gone through. How Jackie is a manger is beyond my comprehension.... She offered to make the sandwich over - but using the SAME smashed bread and the SAME deli meats that were already contaminated with one another. She had no compassion and made my husband and I feel like we were such an inconvenience, and Kelly meanwhile just stood there and did nothing. The outcome Jackie gave us was "take it or leave it" so needless to say we took a refund over serving such a grotesque looking grinder. And after the way that we were treated - It was beyond unprofessional and I truly am in shock that Jackie is in charge of the Newington catering department, and also that Kelly is the Deli Manager. Kelly does not have customer service skills and lacks the business acumen to handle when things go wrong. As far as Jackie goes, I would NOT want that employee running any part of my business. She just lost your store valuable customers who have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars because she wanted to be "Right" and brush us aside. Well, last I knew the Customer is ALWAYS right - and as being the "Customer" in this situation - I think you should bring heavy consequences onto her - if not terminate her employment at Stew Leonard's. And if you or anyone else should think otherwise, I highly suggest you re-read Rule #1. read more

If you ever come across this Manger or what he like to say is he owns the store registered! The man grabbed my phone out of my hand because I wanted his name...he yelled at me and Threatened to be called the security on me because I told him to don't touch my phone and don't go near my child's he was heading towards. My kid I am pretty sure that stews has a security system that I'm helping the little looking to the instinct... Also no one has the right to touch my property and grab it out of my hand I felt very sorry for the cashier that was in the middle but not for the customer's service agent that came from across the way from Customer service desk that was not involved and could not see anything that had happening at the register. Certainly not him grabbing my phone out of my hand.... Also this Calling security on us saying that I was threatening him all. I told him is to stay away from my child! Which any mother Would do ! This felt like such a threatening incident of somebody taking something out of my hands that I was so scared that he was going to touch my kid i'd. Already paid for my food and was about to leave what hes telling me get the. Hell? Out of here? I own the register calling security I was the scariest thing I have ever had and I have been shopping at the store for a minimum of 15 years.! What's do? I didn't know you have a new owner. Stew Leonard's has become one of my favorite places to grocery shop, not just because of the food, but because of the experience. The store itself is huge, and every time I go, I feel like I'm discovering something new. It's not your average grocery store. I have to admit, every time I pass one of those animated characters that sing or dance when you press the button, I can't resist. I always press it. It makes me feel like a kid again! It's such a small thing, but it adds a little joy to a regular shopping trip. What really sets Stew Leonard's apart are the events they host for families. Around Easter, the Easter Bunny makes a visit, and they go all out for Halloween with trick-or-treating right in the store. During the holiday season, Santa stops by to take pictures with the kids, and the decorations really help capture the magic. They also offer great classes for kids, everything from cupcake decorating to beginner cooking, which are fun and hands-on. And if you're looking for a unique birthday party option, Stew Leonard's makes it easy to host a memorable event with friends, complete with a visit from their beloved mascots. The kids love it. The gift box customer service is the worst. I order 2 gift boxes and a brownie tin. The boxes arrived not presentable because these boxes were used for shipping meaning they got dirty and dented . The dairy arrived warm and one of the chocolate 1/2 way melted. They don't use dry ice. They just dump everything in the boxes and shipped. I try to communicate with customer service and the lady was not helpful at all . I wanted to go to the store and exchange the cheeses and she was impossible . So she ended up to shut me off and said that will send replacement cheeses with dry ice which never arrived. Mind you I offered to drive to the store for replacement for the damaged items . To top it off the brownie tin arrive dented. At that point I was too disappointed and annoyed that decided to just dispose the damaged items and buy something else for gift. So I hope this review is useful considering how important it is to get what you pay for and do not but gift boxes from Stew Leonard read more

I've lived within walking distance of this store for years and visit it frequently for grocery and holiday needs, or just a nice cone of ice cream on an off day. It's awesome! I'm a repeat customer of their sushi section as well. When we went to pick up our Christmas tree this year however... We usually get a 7' or 8' tree for our home. For years it's been $35 to $40. Last year, the price went up and we stomached it and purchased a smaller tree. The little guy had character, but... Ultimately this year we wanted to go back to getting the 7' to 8'. We preferred not to pay outside the range stated above, and while Stew's has theirs for $59.99, we found an 8' tree at the new Lowes down the street for $39.99. I hear tales of similar prices at the local Home Depot. Not sure what caused the sudden rise in price, but I did miss the personal feel of going to Stew's. Hope the price goes down next year. (We will be returning for our pumpkins again in October though!) read more

I have been going to stews for over 30 years and love it. However I have learned to make sure the prices are clearly marked or I don't put it in my cart. And I make sure my groceries are rung up correctly when I get to the register. There has been issues with that for me over the years especially when they weigh things, like coffee beans. I also make sure to go when the store 1st opens around the major holidays to avoid the crowds. It can get quite nutty and crazy. More advice: during and peak hours I always park far away. Fairfield County Mommies in their big SUV's are quite aggressive in their quest for the best parking spaces. read more

Unparalleled grocery store. There's nothing like Stew Leonard's in the area. A very positive, happening place. I am sure kids of all ages love to got there. You might want to buy the grocery store brand cheeses at other places, as they will be expensive here. REALLY FRESH vegetables. Got amazingly green and soft beans the other day. A Norwalk institution, Having been born and raised in Norwalk, I would come here and visit the farm and come in the Christmas time for the Christmas tree. The food and produce is always fresh and tastes great. Lines are usually long but the registers move pretty quick. It has every thing you could possible want and then some. There are live birds one flew over my head and almost hit me. This bird sat on the fryer..dont eat the chicken cause your eating bird poop.! Moldy shelves through out the stores.
