This was our first time trying this place out and thought it was average. We got the salmon and beef tenderloin tips. Both were okay but not amazing. We had a wonderful experience with the service. The staff were extremely friendly. My husband and I usually like to share our meals which we told them was our intention when we ordered. Unexpectedly they asked if we wanted them to split the meals for us and serve one of each meal on a single plate. Top notch service. The restaurant was filled with other families but was not extremely loud and overall was a comfortable atmosphere As for the food, we had the house bread & butter, crispy fried Brussels sprouts appetizer, Parmesan crusted whitefish and Rib Eye Steak with Stillwater Salad & Caesar salad The house bread came fresh and was warm. It was the perfect balance of a warm fluffy cloud with a little crunch and perfect amount of salt. The brussel sprouts were excellently presented with balsamic vinaigrette glaze and fresh Parmesan cheese grated over it. The Brussels sprouts were a tad bitter for my taste and I think would benefit from a more sweet glaze to balance out the bitterness. Overall still enjoyable Our entrees came with a choice of a salad each. We had the Caesar and Stillwater grill salad. The Caesar salad had homemade dressing and was extremely fresh and crunchy. It was overall very tasty. The Stillwater grill salad came with a honey-cider Dijon vinaigrette which I got on the side. I personally didn't like the flavor of the vinaigrette but my husband did. Instead I got a side of honey mustard which paired much better with the salad and significantly elevated the flavor. We got the Ribeye steak medium cooked. It was very juicy and flavorful. It came with a side of mashed potatoes and broccolini which were both exceptionally flavored and well seasoned. The Parmesan crusted whitefish was also perfectly cooked. The fish was moist and the Parmesan added a subtle crunch. The fish could use a little more salt but that's my personal opinion. The lemon caper butter sauce tied all the flavors together for a complete dish that was enjoyable. It also came with a side of rice and green beans which were also good Overall we had a great experience. All this food came up to $80. We came from out-of-town and saw the great reviews for this chain restaurant, but we were disappointed at the quality of the food and the high prices. It was oddly empty on a Friday night. The ambiance is that of a nice steakhouse. It is beautifully decorated in warm-colored woods. The servers gave the impression that none of them wanted to be there. The Spinach Dip we ordered was difficult to eat, as there was a half-inch thick layer of cheese covering the whole thing, which the chips were unable to penetrate. When using spoons instead, the cheese just kept pulling and would not let up. Essentially, there was an absurd amount of cheese. The dip itself tasted fine. Hubby and I ordered the ribeyes, which were ok, not very memorable. Having never been there before, it seems like this restaurant was very successful a long time ago, but has gone downhill since. If they would QC the food and find servers that care about being there it could be saved. read more

Service can be friendly and Happy Hour is nice. BUT, if you want your burger cooked well and not oozing pink blood, good luck. It is a tasty burger, but no matter how many times I ask for it to be cooked medium or medium well, the kitchen still insists on making it "their way". We are nice about it, but today some guy came over to our table and started to give me a bit of grief. Unacceptable. We are nice. We tip well. We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. Not very busy, beautiful atmosphere. Tables are set like it's a high end restaurant. We were expecting to get sticker shock looking at the menu, but everything was actually really reasonably priced. Prompt friendly service, again like this was a Michelin Star restaurant. The place is starting to feel like it's punching above its weight. The wife got chicken tenders and I got the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich. An unassuming order, and we were expecting decent quality based on what we had seen so far, but what came out was super impressive. The food had clearly been made from scratch. This wasn't no deep fried frozen patties and tenders situation. These were breaded and fried in house, and they were both amazing. Also, the fries are the good kind. If you know, you know. We'll be back in Michigan again this time next year and are already planning on coming back. This has to be the best value to quality ratio I've had in a restaurant in the past decade. read more

When we first got there we were asked to wait about 15 minutes, even though there were plenty of seats. While we were waiting there was a terrible, pungent smell that was very hard to sit through. We were sat by the hostess stand and waited another 10 minutes for someone to come and take our order. The smell just got worse, we were going to just leave but decided to ask to move and they did so without question, the waitress said I get it......... Again - Another disappointment at Stillwater! I ordered their French onion soup which was very tasty, packed with multiple versions of freshly sauté onions topped with a beautiful gooey layer of mozzarella. My hopes were dashed as my entree arrived. I clearly asked for the French dip prime beef sandwich. What I received was a plate of prime rib, very rare, and dried out due to sitting under the heat lamp pickup line. Now I've enjoyed prime entrees in many restaurants in my travels, but have never had to literally hack at the beef with their silverware. Pure shoe leather price at a prime grade level. $37.00 for this fatty, grizzly raw slab of meat is outrageous. The server knew I was struggling with the kitchen's disaster. She also knew, but never admitted, her error. The floor manager strolled by to ask how everything was. I was so pissed off at this vailed attempt to placate I actually locked up my distaste. Shame on me for no speaking up my displeasure. He sensed the tension at our table and placated me with a hot fudge ice cream dessert - big lousy gesture! The other insult was one of the other dinner guest was drunk on 4 beers and tossing out inappropriate "you're a very good looking woman" comments at various women in the dinner room. Finally came to this place after being told how great their food was. If you're driving south, it comes up out of nowhere and sits a tiny bit back from the road behind a line of trees. You'll miss it if you're not looking for it. Came here on a Sunday evening around 5-530pm. We got lucky with snagging 2 seats at the bar. It was otherwise a 40 minute wait for a table. Parking lot is pretty big also so you shouldn't have any issues finding a spot. We very pleased with the immediate assistance of the bar staff. A young man was training and the bartender stepped away for a moment so he got us waters and a food menu. I appreciate him doing something for us rather than just letting us sit and wonder (which has happened to us elsewhere). Once the bartender came back, the drinks were flowing. Food & Beverage: Requested a coffee drink but was stumped when he said he could make one. He suggested a millionaires coffee and I signed up for deliciousness. The husband had a rum & coke with a nice looking ratio (if you drink this, you know what I'm talking about). After that, I stuck to wine. They have a great wine list and a full bar. They also had a list of specialty cocktails. Menu was fantastic with prices that illustrate the quality of food you're about to eat. Highly recommend any of their steaks. Salads (we had a Michigan and a Caesar) were amazing. Classic Calamari and Brussel sprouts were a delight to start with. Attire: may want to go more on the dressy-casual side rather than casual-casual. I wore a white sundress and fit right in. Hubby wore a plain dark blue tshirt and gray golf shirts. You don't need to be dressed-to-the-nines but don't look like a hobo. Wait staff: very attentive but not overbearing. Had great recommendations and we never waited long for our food. read more

Went here for my birthday and everything was great. Loved the filet, the rolls, the wine. Only thing I wouldn't recommend was the calamari. Lots of people come to Stillwater Grill because they know this place serves up great food. When we find ourselves in Brighton, we enjoy a meal here. Seafood, steaks, you name it, always served promptly by their well-trained staff. But did I mention the food? Succulent scallops, melt-in-your-mouth prime rib, all well seasoned with great sides. We were a big group, loud (lots of older folks with hearing problems who love to talk so... lots of shouting), on weekday lunch, and the servers dealt with us so graciously and helpfully. The menu is disappointing. Usually even a grill has one token vegetarian item. This place had nothing and when I ordered the mozzarella tomato bacon chicken on ciabatta sandwich special asking them to hold the meat, what came out was pathetic. Maybe 1/2 ounce of sliced mozzarella melted on a puny slice of tomato. It felt like the chef was spitting on a customer for wanting to eat something other than meat. Except some of the other meals were disappointing according to the other eaters, so must just be a mediocre chef. Very disappointing, won't be back. read more

We came here for a birthday dinner Sunday afternoon. We were greeted promptly with smiling faces! The dining room was spacious, but we didn't feel like we're too far away from the action. We brought an ice cream cake with us (from another local business, Jackie's Custard) and the staff was happy to store it for us while we were eating. The meals we enjoyed were all delicious, the steak kabobs were cooked perfectly, portions were generous, and Katie N. made sure all of our needs were met and our drinks stayed full. She even suggested some mixed drinks for our birthday guest of honor. When bringing the cake over, she went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed for a successful birthday celebration, like plates, extra silverware, even offered candles and a lighter, in case we forgot! Still water grill is a consistently good restaurant . A friend was one of the original owners and we were frequent fliers and even with new ownership a few years back nothing has changed. The menu MSu have even gotten a bit better but again always good and never a complaint. Great go to place for large groups and out of town guests . read more

Came out to celebrate my SIL/BIL's anniversary. The food was tremendous but the service was the highlight of our visit. Rachel totally made our evening. The manager and another server double checked on us just to be certain we had everything we needed. I thoroughly enjoyed the Turkey Reuben and the crispy fried Brussels sprouts. They bake these with pecans and a maple balsamic that is out of this world. They do work hard to ensure you have a wonderful experience. The food is prepared with love and care. The Grill prides itself in have the freshest fish and best steaks. I ordered the cashew salmon and my husband the cajun steak. Both came with so much sauce that it ruined the fish and meat. I asked for more paper napkins to remove the sauce. It didn't help much they brought fresh rice and vegtables, but still added sauce. If you want to taste fish or meat, don't get any sauce or have it on the side. For the cost of our meal, the preparation should not require hiding the fish or meat. read more

I really like Stillwater. I've been here about four times, different dining companions. Different experiences each time. Good experiences. One time I was on a date a few years ago with serious conversation. I don't even remember what I ate. But I do remember that the server was gracious and let us talk. Next I've been here a couple of times with my small group, and we also needed time to talk. The server was very gracious revisited the table as needed. Not too much. Not too little. The food was excellent. Most recently there were four of us gathering for the first time in years... you guessed it. We were slow about deciding and needed time to be together. The salad was full of fresh crisp greens and the fries were hot and flavorful. My husband ordered the tenders and fries. The tenders were plentiful and hand breaded, very good. We had plenty to take home. We ordered the creme brûlée for dessert, it was huge and delicious. We also got the lobster bisque to go, it was incredible. We will be back! read more

By far one of the best restaurants I've ever been. Drove from Toledo on a whim and I was not disappointed. Great service, beautiful views over the water from almost every seat. Ample comfortable booths. The food was fresh, hot and spectacular: Perch fingers so light and crispy, Stillwater salad with dried Michigan cherries and walnuts, amazing crab cakes, lightly sauces perfectly cooked scallops. The sides equally impressive especially the truffle fries; deep fried wedges stacked with light cheese and truffle oil. Can't wait to come back soon and I will definitely recommend to all. read more

From previous visits food is adequate, this the three stars. Try and reserve at your own risk. Any protein items have been over cooked. I will say we had a friendly server the last time but again the wait didn't warrant the food. Fix your reservation policies, either take them and abide by them or don't take them at all. With our meal last night at Stillwater grill we were all so full that I took my dessert to go. I love chocolate moose cake so ordered that. Opened it up to eat it and this is what I found. This is NOT chocolate moose cake not even close. And it doesn't look at all appetizing they way they presented it. Very disappointed. Not to mention that the filet they have listed on the menu was not what what's on my plate. Although the stake they gave us was vey good. It was NOT filet mignon. I would have been pissed if this was a dinner date and this is what I was served. But I was out with great friends and didn't really care... I usually like everything and the meal and service was still good. But don't serve this if you don't have what I asked for. Give me another option. This dessert did push it a bit far. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Stillwater Grill. Our waiter Alex was very amicable and attentive. We both thought our meals were nicely presented and very flavorful. In Brighton, this is one of my favorite places to go! The Stillwater Grill salad is one of my go-tos, but honestly, anything on the menu is great! The wine and cocktail menu has something for everyone and the servers and bartenders do a great job of taking care of you without hovering too much.
