Stopped into Howell Tavern for the 2nd time to try out the atmosphere and food... Well here is what we received - stopped in for Wednesday $12 deal Burger beer / fries - time was around 5pm - place was dead 3 tables - Bar tender who was new she was very helpful polite took care of us - ordered the $12 special in the pic - as you can see the burger did NOT look like pic it was a hockey puck surrounded by bun very little topping, temp was correct not very juicy kinda blan - fries were "refried" fries that sat in basket then they refried them instead of using new frozen fries - yeah i worked in restaurants for years this is not good - beer was cold and bartender worked very hard to keep us happy, she rocked! BUT she cannot control the kitchen and there inability to make a dish that is correct..... For being a new restaurant that has had mixed reviews, I tried with an open mind to enjoy the food. I couldn't knowing that they posted this on facebook on July 6th: July 6th - **Big News from Howell Tavern!** Over the past three weeks, many of you have already had the opportunity to enjoy the work of our new Head Chef, Refugio, and we couldn't be more excited to officially welcome him to the Howell Tavern family! Refugio brings years of experience working in high-volume and upscale kitchens, including serving as an Executive Sous Chef. His passion for food, leadership, organization, and quality is already making a tremendous impact on our restaurant. Since joining our team, Refugio has played a major role in elevating our menu, improving food quality, reducing ticket times, and helping us deliver the level of customer service that we have always envisioned for Howell Tavern. As many of you know, opening a new restaurant comes with its share of startup challenges and growing pains. Over the past three months, we've learned a tremendous amount, listened to your feedback, and have been committed every single day to improving. We sincerely appreciate everyone who has supported us through this journey. We're also excited to share that we've added an Assistant Cook with over 30 years of culinary experience, giving our kitchen even more depth, consistency, and leadership. If you've always loved our food, we think you're going to love it even more. And if your experience during our first few months wasn't everything you hoped it would be, we truly apologize. We invite you to come back and give us another try. With the incredible talent we've added to our kitchen, we're confident you'll notice the difference through higher quality food, faster service, and an even better overall dining experience. Thank you for believing in Howell Tavern and growing with us. The best is still ahead, and we can't wait to serve you! If this chef Refugio is a real chef, why wouldn't you post where u worked previously? Why not provide your last name so we can look up what restaurants you worked at? also it mentions " Assistant Cook with over 30 years of culinary experience" Again if you are proud of your work you would introduce yourself and BRAG about your experience..... Also, another interesting piece of info I haven't figured out is who the owner is. why is he not posting his name, he calls himself "The owner" we all know Livingston County is small we know the owners of restaurants and bars, we know Adam Merkel, we know what he owns, we know Mike Jonna owns Jonas, we know nic & colleen own 4 circles ect. ect. BUTTTTTTTT who owns Howell Tavern??? I hope the owner reads this and corrects the issues ASAP, none of us want to see another restaurant fail here.....

I was extremely disappointed to pay $14 and only get five chicken wings! They were good, but the portion was very small. The waiter was great and the drinks were great. I love the live music during. Friday night.

Having said that, if it had come with pickles it definitely would have amped up the flavor profile of this burger and made for a better sandwich in my opinion. Possibly something to keep in min d and ask for if you go the Burger route. Aside form the burger, I ordered an Old Fashioned with Makers Mark Bourbon as the base for my cocktail. The drink was well made and quite tasty and a deal at $11 in my opinion. Aside from the burger there were an assortment of food options that I would classify as Elevated Bar food bordering on a Bistro style Menu that looked very interesting. Nice! The bar itself has a dark vibe to it to go along with the Western accents making for a nice ambiance to enjoy your drink/food. Plenty of tables running along side their massive bar and numerous TV's scattered about to allow you to watch the big game. Staff is quite friendly with good follow up throughout the meal. Overall a nice place to enjoy a well made drink and grab a bite to it. Its central location in the business district is also another huge plus if you want to make an evening of it in downtown Brighton.

The tables on the side of the building are not as exciting as the seating at the front of the building. Our waiter had such an energetic vibe and was very polite. We had water within a minute of sitting down. Our order was very fast. Easily within 10 minutes. Very impressive! I loved the southern fried chicken with the mashed sweet potatoes. Their cornbread was so moist and had a nice flavor. The breading on the chicken was perfectly cooked and had a nice sweet flavor. We decided on the bread pudding for dessert which was easily a shareable item. So much flavor and wasn't too overly sweet with the candied pecans and sweet drizzle topping. Flavor was very well balanced.

We had some vidalia onion dip for an appetizer which had a good flavor. My entree was the cajun shrimp and grits. It has been a long time since I have had this dish from a restaurant done well enough to like. It was delicious. My only complaint is that the shrimp come tail-on... i know thats a thing these days, but ive never liked it. Anyways - the greens were tasty, the cornbread was good, and main portion.... delectable. We sat on the patio area. There was a nice breeze, and we joked about some of the people being scared of the sunlight because it was a bit darker inside.... Great food, great experience.
