Tried this place out a few weeks ago. The service was lackluster. There were plenty of servers and not many customers but we were never brought cutlery, and not checked on either (even when we just wanted to pay up and leave). The table was sticky. Not many non alcoholic options with the beer. I was excited to try the brisket nachos but there was next to no brisket. The giant pretzels were a good size and had som interesting dipping options but were smothered in butter which seemed unnecessary. I wanted to give this place a chance and I know there are always kinks to be worked out when a place first opens, but I feel the fundamentals are off here at the moment. Particularly the service. First time here and it was enjoyable. Had a few beers while I enjoyed the brisket nachos. They've made some changes inside to make it feel less like a diner and more like a tavern - high tops instead of booths by the bar. It needed it. Staff overwhelmingly friendly and responsive. Stopped into Howell Tavern for the 2nd time to try out the atmosphere and food... Well here is what we received - stopped in for Wednesday $12 deal Burger beer / fries - time was around 5pm - place was dead 3 tables - Bar tender who was new she was very helpful polite took care of us - ordered the $12 special in the pic - as you can see the burger did NOT look like pic it was a hockey puck surrounded by bun very little topping, temp was correct not very juicy kinda blan - fries were "refried" fries that sat in basket then they refried them instead of using new frozen fries - yeah i worked in restaurants for years this is not good - beer was cold and bartender worked very hard to keep us happy, she rocked! BUT she cannot control the kitchen and there inability to make a dish that is correct..... For being a new restaurant that has had mixed reviews, I tried with an open mind to enjoy the food. We stopped at The Howell Tavern after seeing all the cars in the parking lWe tried the Tavern Burger and the brisket Nachos. Nachos had pickled onions and lots of cheese and brisket. The chips were thick cut home made potato chips. This was a great change from regular chips. Ed had French fries peeled in house with a well seasoned burger cooked to order. He added caramelized onions which were great. The only drawback for this restaurant which was filled to capacity is the size of the bathrooms. There is only one stall in the ladies room. Otherwise this is a great new eatery. We hope you do well. read more

Ate there last night, food was good. I had a chicken ceaser salad and we shared a giant pretzel. My hubby got a burger with Mac n cheese. Very good. Brisket was 3 pieces with some cold fries and box Mac and cheese not worth $23. Pretzel was good but not for $15. Brisket quesadilla had a couple tablespoons of brisket it seemed. Basically the food didn't look like the picture is how we felt. read more

The atmosphere, wait staff and food were amazing!! The wait staff was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was great whether you were wanting to watch a game or chat with friends. The place opened with a bang and I didn't think it was going to be so busy. the food is good the bbq nacho chips and especially the cheese curls with honey. I think in a month they will have better food service. The bar help is excellent and never saw anyone move so fast and solid. The barstools are great you have a board to rest your feet on if you need. Good Luck Howell Tavern, I believe this spot will be a hit in a month or so. read more

First thing we noted was the choice of music, looking around, the music selection was definitely for the employees not the customers. The vast majority of customers were 50+. It was a bit cool in the restaurant, we kept our coats on. The food was good, the fries were awesome! The beer selection was mediocre. We were thinking of another drink, but the waitress brought the check without asking if we wanted anything else, so I guess it was time to leave. read more

Three of us were dining in for dinner last night. I had the brisket dinner. I was quite shocked, however they only had one barbecue sauce option, and it was very very sweet. I think that that will need to be changed as if you play in the world of brisket. A sweet sauce is not typical (like in Texas) so some other options there would be a very good idea. Service was a little bit slow and for a weeknight that was a little surprising as well. We had to ask for drink refills. We heard the manager discussing menu updates so we won't pass judgment quite yet until we see what the new offerings become. read more

Service was slow... booth behind us left because no one came to their table. Only eight tables were seated so it wasn't busy. We waited awhile or a server to come take our drink order and then waited 10 mins for the bartender to pour a beer and make a cocktail. (Again not busy. Fully understand if they were slammed). They got the beer wrong. Lol. Server didn't come back for a while so I went to the bar myself to get the correct beer. Manager wandered about. Didn't seem concerned about quality or speed of the service. Ordered food finally, deviled eggs were good but 3 for $11! Ordered Brisket plate and a chicken Caesar salad. Took 10 mins for them to come back and say they don't sell a Caesar salad anymore. Apparently the server didn't get the memo lol .... Brisket was $23 and I got two thinly sliced pieces. It was ok. Not a great experience. I know it's new, but they were very slow and poor service. Food was meh. Ok but not really worth the $ or the wait. We'll probably not return. read more

Very disappointed on my first visit. Service was very slow. First round of drinks took a good 20 minutes for 6 of us, and then another 10 minutes to order our food. The draft beer lines clearly need to be cleaned- light beer was very sour and just off. Also, draft beer was not very cold. Some of our group seemed fine with their food, but I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich and it was almost inedible. I picked at it, but barely ate. No Buffalo sauce on it, and couldn't taste it either. The chicken was very overcooked- practically falling apart. The lettuce was the same romaine used in my wife's salad, which is weird for a sandwich. And it had no chipotle aioli, no pickles, and no crispy onions. If they were out of these ingredients it would have been nice to know as I would have ordered something else. Also, the little things were lacking- no condiments on the table, no salt and pepper, and no water refills. It was also toward the end of the evening and the crowd was thinning out. Long periods of time between visits from our waitress too. I'll probably try it again, but it seems like they have a long way to go to be the first to make it work at this location in a LONG time. read more

Figured we'd try on a week night vs weekend. Greeting was amazing.. staff was friendly and welcoming.. we sat at the bar. The bartender was awesome, told us about the drinks and popular menu items. He was very tentative. We had a drink, placed our order. Hubby ordered the chicken wrap grilled but with no bacon and blue cheese dressing vs ranch and I ordered fish & chips. Meals were served promptly, I will say my fish.. portion was generous, fish was fantastic! Fresh, lightly battered, one of the best around. Unfortunately, Hubby's wrap (announced by bartender blue cheese/ no bacon) actually HAD ranch & bacon.. while he ordered to preference, he ate half and took half home.. we did let the bartender know the issue but we are not complainers.. sadly.. the kitchen/chef has one job and missed it . Ultimately, I did like the place for us but it's the simple things and attention to detail.. we may go back.. maybe not.. more positive than not but if you can't get a simple wrap right on a non busy night..
