We've been patrons here for the last three years or so and our experience has definitely changed from a 5-star type of feeling to where we are with this review today. Today was likely our last time using this as we drive 15 minutes or so to this location but it's certainly not worth the extra effort anymore. A few thoughts: we haven't seen the owner the last 3 or 4 visits (maybe ownership has changed) but he was one of the main reasons for coming here despite the distance. Like everywhere, the prices are going up so that didn't factor much in the review. The employees have begun upselling more than they ever did in the past (another reason we liked the place previously). The service is average at best. For example, today our car was finished and pulled out of the bays for over five minutes before anyone came inside so we could pay and leave. It's a detail that would have never been overlooked in the past. We wish them the best going forward but we'll take our business somewhere closer to home. This was my first time coming here: I'd recommend them to literally anyone who cares about knowledgeable professionalism, expediency & thoroughness for their vehicles. Really pleasant people who are personable & thorough in their oil change & inspections. Very fast; filed up my water cup in their waiting area without getting through much of it before my vehicle was done, casually sipping. There was a car being worked on in front of me, & two in the other line but they got me in & out quick, plus let me know how everything looked in there (mechanically) when I paid which is always reassuring to me. I've been frequenting Stinky's since I was in college. I'd say I've been coming here for about 8 years. I used to love this place. Everyone was kind and professional. Recently, the quality has dipped dramatically. I have been asked the past 8 times I've been here if I changed my license plate. I'm not sure why they have difficulty writing it down and keeping it on record, however, this is a small slight, and I overlooked it. Yesterday I went in and Lorenzo's condescending attitude will mark the last time I come here. He mentioned my transmission at least 5 times despite me reassuring him I get it checked regularly. I don't know what more I could have said to him. He seemed to not take my word for it despite them not being able to check the transmission. I'm not sure what knowledge he was going off of. He was extremely condescending and this is the first time, in all the years of getting my oil changed or even having work done on my car that I felt I was being talked down to because I'm female. I even brought my dog in with me, and he didn't give me the discount until I asked. He definitely saw my dog as I had been carrying him. I'm disappointed that I can't rely on my once-favorite auto shop any longer. The tire pressure is included in the service, and they neglected to check and/or fill them. My tire pressure light stayed on so I took it to my mechanic, and sure enough, the rear tire pressure was 25 and the front tires were 30. It's supposed to be at 33-35 for all tires. Who knows what else I was charged for and did not receive from Stinky's. read more

First time bringing my old Lexus here for an oil change. So far so good. Guy came and asked if I wanted to change my filters.. pretty thorough. Cute clean location, full of kitschy decor. The only thing I needed to make sure they did was put the pins back in my engine covering. They had fallen in the floor after the guy took the cover off, and he didn't make a move to pick them up. Ok. I'll just watch... so when everything was finished, I noticed he was about to close the hood without putting the pins back. No no no! My dad would kill me if he looked and saw them missing!! Long story short, I got the guys attention and he put them back in. Not only that, the the sweet owner gave me tips on where I could get replacement pins in the future. AND he gave me a flower. Got my oil and transmission fluid changed here. I appreciated the timeliness and politeness of the service done but the quality of service was a little lacking since my transmission fluid ended up leaking since they didn't screw something in completely. Prices were about middle-of-the-road for a lube place but I appreciated their customer service and them letting me know of some larger engine problems that were good to be aware of for the future. read more

I came to the shop in Tempe for the first time after reading several positive reviews on reddit. People said the employees wore their masks, and that I could stay in my vehicle. I see even here on Yelp a statement saying that they will let you stay in your vehicle and asking customers to bring their masks. I showed up already wearing my mask. The first employee to wave me in only put up his mask to speak to me. And as soon as I told him what service I wanted he directed me to leave the vehicle and enter the enclosed lobby. Inside the lobby, the gentleman running the register was sitting out in the waiting area, mask down under his chin, and talking up a storm to keep customers entertained. Meanwhile I looked outside and hardly any of the workers were actually wearing masks over the nose and mouth. As far as I know for now, the service itself was fine for my vehicle. And in normal times the friendly and joking conversation would be fine and appreciated, but these are not normal times and I was not comfortable being in an enclosed space (the lobby), all of us breathing the same air. I know that some people in Arizona are bored with the masks or tired of the masks or straight up just don't want to go along with it. But unfortunately the pandemic is real and cases in my county are on the rise again. I wasn't comfortable raising a stink about it or making a scene, but I was really disappointed because the things that other customers said about the masks or staying in their vehicles was not my experience. read more

This place is awesome! I went to get my oil changed in my Toyota Prius (I bet everyone here is a little jealous because of gas prices lol) and it was a wonderful experience. Here is a quick list of some of the things I liked: -Staff was kind and casual -Waiting room was interesting and comfortable -The service was lightning quick -The employees didn't comment on how messy the inside of my car was -The employees didn't comment on how poor of a driver I am Overall the staff was super kind and took the time to recommend to me exactly the type of oil my car needed. For only living here for a few months I was in need of a place to get my oil changed in my cars. I went online and found Stinky's and was reading the reviews and was impressed with what I was reading. Started off with bringing my Audi SUV in and they did great! The next day I brought my Kia in and they did a really good job. Everyone was so nice and they did a great job. You now have a faithful customer and will be back for sure. What I assumed was an easy fix turned into a nightmare. Had an oil change done and for some reason my car was leaking after. I originally thought they messed something up and came back to Stinky's for an inspection. But my judgement was incorrect and the guys there found some tubing needed to be replaced. I bought the parts and they changed it for free, which I was super happy about. However, I leave to go out of town the next day and get an image of this big oil stain from my roomate underneath my car on the driveway. Once I get back into town, I check under the hood and find the cap to the oil tank unscrewed and turned over. Prior to them fixing the tubing on my car, both my roomate and I had checked underneath the hood and remember that that specific cap was properly screwed. I was driving my car for a solid two days with the cap unscrewed. This really is upsetting knowing that the cap could have gone into any part of my car it shouldn't have. Once I get back to have them do an inspection and clean any oil stains under the hood- there's no attempt to rectify the mistake from the manager, nor did I receive any apology from him, or an acknowledgment that they messed up. I understand this business specializes in oil changes. However, I am writing this review as a suggestion to really improve their customer service and acknowledge the hazard they potentially put a customer in. The only person who apologized was the woman I was interacting with, she was awesome. Still, it was the manager's job and not hers. read more

So glad we found Stinky's via the Yelp app several months ago. We love supporting small local businesses, especially when they are run as well as Stinky's. James and his crew make you feel at home while your vehicle is being serviced. No upcharging like many franchise oil change places - just quality work and friendly conversation. Today, James asked us about our windshield wipers. He said they should be changed soon and wanted to make us aware of their condition. I sheepishly admitted to buying replacements but never managing to get them installed. He said "Well, break them out and we will install them." And they did.
