She recently altered my sister's prom dress that was about 8 inches too long (even with heels), didn't fit in the top at all, and now she looks like she's ready for the red carpet! I took a pair of jeans here to be taken in at the waist and am so pleased! I have always struggled to find pants that fit in the legs and aren't gaping at the waist; I usually resign myself to wearing a belt with every pair. I was fed up with having ill-fitting jeans, but was paranoid that a tailor would screw it up. I took my jeans here after reading positive reviews on Yelp, and the woman was not phased at all when she saw that I needed ~2 inches off the waist. I was in agony all week while I waited because I was worried that my jeans would be butchered. I am happy to report they fit like a glove and were done beautifully. I'm over the moon! Have been patronizing this place and left a tip each time until I asked them to stich up a 3 inch rip that was needed quickly and they refused, saying they don't do rush jobs. 3 inches of sewing that's all, didn't care what color stitching it was. Poly is amazing! My wedding dress was made from a single piece of lace and was 2 sizes too big. Not only did she alter it beautifully for an extremely reasonable price, she also managed to do so without cutting any of the dress so it could be let out again in the future for anyone I choose to pass it on to. She even cleaned and pressed it before my final pickup so I didn't have to find a cleaner that specialized in wedding gowns. I feel that I have found the best tailor in the Bay Area. I live in Oakland, work in San Francisco and have spent $ and time with tailors in Berkeley, Lake Merritt, and San Francisco (financial district) I have been thoroughly disappointed overall. I went to Stitches randomly one Sunday (as they are conveniently opened on Sunday's) The Drive from the Oakland Hills is a little hectic to Alameda, but my experiences at Stitch's are flawless. My clothes look amazing. I have to give VERY LITTLE direction on how I want my clothes to look on my body. She's fast, communicates well and makes sure that you're VERY happy with the final product. I go out of my way to take my clothes (dresses, blouses, rompers, dress pants, blazers) here... Well worth the trip wherever you live in the east bay to work with a skilled tailor that remembers your name and does quality work. Highly recommend. I came here to alter some uniforms after hearing about this place from a friend. They're very friendly and take the time out to truly understand how you want the items you brought in to look. I just got my uniform back today and she did an amazing job! My uniform wasn't the best material or cut, but she definitely made it work.
