This shopping area is the ultimate destination for fresh fruit and vegetables, fish and more. Just the atmosphere of being here makes me miss my Aunt so much. She loved to come here and take exotic produce I knew nothing about back to Connecticut. Even if you won't be cooking when you visit Manhattan you must experience the streets in Chinatown lined with the delicacies you won't find anywhere else.

if you been to the Union Square Greenmarket aka the farmer's market that is open Monday, Wednesday,…read moreFriday, & Saturday...then you're probably familiar with Migliorell Farms. this farm stand typically has a variety of produce like apples, but they are most notable for selling hot cider especially during the winter....as you can see puffs of steam rising from warm pots filled with apple cider. beyond the apple cider, they sell cider doughnuts. got a small bag of pear cider doughnuts a few weeks ago--and SURPRISE SURPRISE they were awesome. basically it tasted like a cinnamon cake doughnut with a hint of cider. the cake-iness is light and soft crumbly while the sweetness is light and lets the cider and cinnamon tastes come through. overall, a tasty simple doughnut. while the weather is warming up so hot cider might be out of the question...doughnuts are a year-round affair. enjoy!

They have been written up several times by a variety of well-established publications (it is not just me) and they are also listed on the menus of some of the best restaurants in town. They are perhaps the most patient of farmers. If you are not sure or can't figure out how to pick out your fruits and vegetables, they will help you and/or teach you how to select them yourself. Any vegetable they sell seems to be best in class. Also on the list of vegetables/herbs I think they do well, includes, but is not limited to: basil, cucumbers, green beans, summer squash/zucchini (which I hated until I tried theirs) eggplant, broccoli, romanesco, pumpkin, brussels sprouts and fennel. They have recently started to weather the cold and sell greenhouse tomatoes and other winter veggies during late fall and early winter. Their veggies are better than anything you will find in the grocery store. It is worth the trip to the Greenmarket just to stop by Sycamore. From late May to November (now December) they can be found the the Union Square Greenmaket at 16th Street and Union Square East.

The good news is this Farmers Market is open through December 22 and they have my favorite Meredith's Bread. The bad news is having to go so far for my favorite brand. If you are in the neighborhood stop by this market. There's more vendors than my market at 97nd Street on Second Avenue. While you are there check out Meredith's! See you there 12/02/23.
