I would never buy another used vehicle from Stone Chevrolet in Tulare, CA. I purchased a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado, and the check engine light came on the very next day. It turned off on its own, so I hoped it was nothing serious. Eleven months later, the check engine light came back on. I took the truck to a mechanic and found out it has transmission problems. I also learned that the diagnostic codes showed they had previously been frozen, which raised serious concerns for me about whether these issues existed before the truck was sold. My experience has been extremely disappointing, and I feel let down by the quality of the vehicle I purchased. If you're considering buying a used vehicle from Stone Chevrolet Tulare, I recommend doing a very thorough independent inspection before signing anything--or looking elsewhere. read more

Oh my gosh!! I'm so upset!! So I just got my oil changed about 3 weeks ago, and I was driving to work last week and my car started to overheat!! I had to keep pulling over until I reached my work place. So here I am stranded at work, thinking I need a new water pump, my car has to be towed, blah blah blah..thank you Jesus for my boyfriend coming to my rescue and just adding coolant to my car..car is fixed! But wait!!?!! I pay over 100 dollars to get my oil changed here, I come in every few months for the last 4 years and my coolant was never filled? What the flip?? So I call the dealership and the lady confirms that they do check the fluids..like really? That's funny, my paperwork never said anything about me needing coolant!! Disappointed in my experience with this dealership & Joey Perez (sales person). I reached through their website the day prior, after finding the car we had been looking for online. The following morning (9am) I reached out over the phone to ask if it was available and what I could do to secure the car over the phone (because I'm 3 hours away). It was still available and as instructed, we went through the application process, exchanged our personal data as requested, and confirmed (at 12:45) that we had financing approval with the understanding that we would come in the following day. Our exchanges went on all the way until 1:45pm. At 3pm, Joey called me and said the car had been sold. How could it have sold when I had already submitted everything Joey said we needed to confirm financing approval and hold it? To have us apply and go through the entire process only to allow the car to be bought by someone who came in after me? This is poor business and characteristics of a company that will never expand if out of town, city, or state customers aren't valued and respected. read more

WANNA BUY A LEMON? You found the right place! End of October 2020, we bought a very clean "looking" used, 2012 Ford Lariat, F350 6.7 Turbo Diesel, Crew Cab, Long bed from Stone Chevrolet. It only had 89k miles on it and two previous owners. What a deal!! The first owner kept very detailed records. The second, not so much. Carfax reported nothing, as to be expected! So, I traded in my great running 2010, F150 and away we go to get our 40ft 5th wheel! Friday, 3/4/21, All seems well, until my first long road trip to LA from the Bay Area. I hit slow traffic in the LA area and the truck starts running rough. Stay the night wake up and it's still running rough and check engine (Codes P0F4/P127A) light comes on! I luckily find a diesel mechanic in Orange, Ca who can get me in! They replace the #7 injector for $899! NOT EVEN 1000 miles after buying the truck. Advise us to watch the High Pressure fuel pump! Driving home 3/6/21, all seems well....until all the white smoke and engine reduced power! Still under 1000 miles on the truck since bought! Towed to Livermore Ford, (out of pocket $600 dollars) who says the High pressure fuel pump is blown! $17k estimate! WTF!!! Thanks Stone Chevy!!! Call Stone Chevy who says they want to "Make it right!" Wrong!! They recommend Will Tiesiera Ford in Tulare (Next 1 star review!), who they have a "Great relationship with!" So be it! Triple AAA to Tulare! Will Tiesiera gets the truck for two weeks, says it's the #1 injector not the High pressure file pump. $2k estimate! Great!! WooHoo!! Seeing that Stone Chevy never really went through the engine and the truck needed a 90k mile service I had ALL fluids changed and all injectors flushed...so they said! Damage cost $4800 Pick up the truck and 100 miles down the road, Check Engine light....again! It's Friday and the dealer is closed and I live 212 miles away. I'm able to diagnose the code and it's a manufacturer code with no info. Living close to San Leandro, you would think Will Tiesiera would pay to have the code read or cleared by San Leandro Ford, but nope! By the way the truck is running fine and service manager David R. "Says get it back to us when you can!" Now it's June 2021, truck seems to be still running well. Small local trips and only one trip prior, pulling the trailer. So we head down the coast for my birthday with No issues. Head east and hit LA traffic again. Truck starts acting up and again "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT!" so we cancel our Grand Canyon plans and stay in Desert Hot Springs for a few days. Truck seems to have slept on it and runs fine the next few days and the check engine light goes out. 6/28/21, heading home. We head west and over the grapevine and stop for gas at the bottom of the hill . A few miles later, BOOM! Knock, knock, knock!! Trucks dead in Bakersfield!! It's 111 degrees at 3:30 pm, and stuck on I5 north! Barely 4500 miles on the truck since bought in Oct 2020! Towed again to Will Tiesiera, who estimated $20k worth of engine damage!! Not including the two previous injectors!!! Thanks STONE CHEVROLET FOR SELLING ME A LEMON!! By the way, your guy Greg L. told me "it's not your problem, I should've bought the extended warranty!" Great service!!! He also said, "The truck was great when you drove away!" Funny.....will Tiesiera said the same thing!! Should've not trusted you guys! I took my car in for a recall. the recall was for the ignition control module. they said they re programed it. now my car won't start and they want 1300 to fix it. my car was running when I drove it over there. they said it burned out while the recall was being done. I spoke with a manager and they said they would fix. the car was fixed but when I went to pick it up my car the air bag light is on now. and none of there checks before or after the recall indicated that a air bag light was one. they released the car with no note of it being on I drove two miles down the road and I brought it back. now there not taking responsibility for what they did to my car. all I want is for them to leave my car in the condition I dropped it off in. no check engine or air bag lights on read more

Not very happy with the car I was sold. The front window was to be replaced by Chads Auto Glass who I guess this dealership has a contract with but it has been 3 weeks now and Chads can't seem to get it together so who knows if it'll ever be changed. Had to take it to Fresno to have 4 recalls checked and switched out and when I arrived was told they could only fit 2 in that day and that the dealership was going to have them replaced but decided not to. So now I have to wait another 2 weeks for the other replacement parts and then drive back to Fresno from Tulare. Went looking for a new truck. Was quoted a price that was on website. As soon as i started letting them know my plans for paying, and salesman saw I was ready to buy, he excused himself. He came back a few minutes later stating that the price was a misprint and they would not honor it. The new price was $4000 higher. VERY POOR business practice. Who knows what else they would change their mind Update---I'm sure you can ask your salesman what happened. He said the error was from GM as they handle the website. I asked if you were going to honor the price both my wife and I were quoted SEVERAL times. I was told "no". And that was it. It was also convenient that it was local to my hometown and nostalgic that it was the place my dad bought his last truck over 20 years at! I worked with Carlos Oliva on their sales team who was extremely helpful, responsive and patient. I was told he was newer on the team, but his willingness to help and customer service was exceptional and glad I could make the deal through him. I was able to get a price that I was happy with, which beat quotes I had from other dealerships and included an extended warranty and Dupont protection. Their finance process was quick and painless (unlike my BMW) where I wasn't bombarded with more things to buy and pay for. Everyone there was extremely friendly and helpful to the point that I even wanted a truck for myself! Shopping for a car isn't an every day thing and it requires a lot of research, patience and knowing exactly what you want, but Carlos and the Merle Stone team worked with me and I was able to take a 2018 Silverado Z71 LTZ Crew Cab home! I called the Parts Department to inquire about reprogramming for a replacement radio in my 2007 Saturn Aura. I was told that they will program only radios that are bought through the dealership. Eek is right...a very big expense for an old car. On the other hand, I was told by the Parts Department at Giant Chevrolet (in Visalia) that they would gladly do the reprogramming for $47.50! They did it promptly when I drove in...all in all a good experience. Seems sort of like the comparison of an "up your's" versus a "be glad to help" customer service philosophy. No exact way of telling, but it seems to me that Giant Chevrolet might be a better place to buy a car if you expect to be treated like a customer. read more

Had a Horrible experience. Just bought a brand new 2020 blazer and less than a week the fuel pump went out. They didn't have a loaner for us so we had to call car rental companies and ended up driving miles to get a car rental. Then the service department had our car for almost 2 weeks because they couldn't find the part. We finally showed up to the dealership when the car was ready and the salesman Carlos seen us and walk a different direction as soon as he seen us, trying to avoid talking to us. My car, a "C7 Corvette" was brought in for a basic check engine light being on as well as due to the loss of audio feed showing up on the dash cluster panel, with my vehicle only having 40,000 miles on it. Of course just after the 36,000 manufactures warranty on a $60,000 +Plus vehicle...imagine that. Thanks Chevy! My car was kept by this Chevy Dealership for a total of 9 days (released to me after 1430 hours, on the 9th day) only after them having changed two fuel injectors and installing a new amplifier for the stereo system. That bit somehow seemed to have taken the mechanic "specializing in Corvettes" 5 days to trace / diagnose the loss of signal back to the amp... maybe he should have started there right? I explained to the repairs/service representative that I was assigned to by the dealership, from the beginning of dropping of my car, it was needed back for my job in three days time, as well as to take my wife to Stanford in five days time, for a medical appointment we had been waiting for months to get approved for. This did not sound like it would be an issue to him when I dropped it off. To say the least, eight days was way to excessive, to keep my vehicle by a Chevy "dealership" in order to get these basic repairs completed. So, I had to rent a car to get around to work and take my wife to Stanford Medical Center etc.. When I told the repair rep I would be forced to get a rental car all he had for me is; Merle Stone doesn't usually offer a rental car for repairs. So, I had to get my rental car through an outside company because this dealership's repair representative did not offer one to me or even set one up through my warranty service when I told them I had rental coming through warranty. This is how they treat a customer who purchases a top of the line sports car from Chevy. I'm left shaking my head! Service representative finally calls me on day 4 to tell me I would have to pay and additional $400 than my extended warranty of $200 deductible, if I wanted my vehicle fixed there because that is the difference in OME parts passed on to me. I agreed to this because he had already had it there for 3 or 4 days, and I was up at Stanford for wife to receive medical treatment and didn't want to deal with delay or finding a different shop, but I felt he was being unreasonable when I was already paying upfront on a extended warranty service (over $3700) and an additional deductible of $200 per incident and stuck in a rental vehicle when the car should have been done already or rental provided due to delays!!! The Rep. was unavailable to me by phone when many times I tried to reach out to him throughout this repair process. He told me he would follow up with me on several different time and never would keep his word, resulting in me spending my time & spinning my wheels trying to play phone tag with him, in order to find out why repairs were not getting done in a timely fashion. I was told on day 5 they had to reorder parts from a different vender after waiting/finding out they couldn't get parts from the vender they were using and after I had been waiting for repairs for 5 days (absolutely ridiculous for a Chevy Dealership to not have better parts dept than this). Truly, I felt my vehicle was being put to side by this dealership to work on other projects when work could have been completed (probably because mine was warranty work so who cares right). When calling in and speaking to ladies playing operator from the Reception/accounting desk, would be informed my Repair rep was gone from his job one time from 11 Oclock "ish" to finally getting ahold of him after 2:20 pm, after his so called "lunch break" finally and only after he failed to call me back again like he said he would from day before. When confronting this repair representative why he was not following up with me and ensuring repairs were getting done he would make excuses and then he became unprofessional with me; rude; and kept over talking me when I voiced my concerns with the service I was receiving in a polite but direct tone to him (I promise, I was never disrespectful). He promised to complete the repairs the day after finally getting the parts and get my vehicle back to me. Said he would call me the next day. He did not fulfill the promise, calling me nor getting the vehicle done. Instead, he was gone at his kids school for their first day of school and while he was away, my vehicle I guess did not get worked on. Two days later the vehicle was released to me. I will never use this dealership again. I would tell anyone with a Chevy needing to be serviced to seek service elsewhere than Merle Stone. I have never had such bad customer service and unexplainable delays in completion of basic service in my 45 years of life! Service Rep. was horrible and when called to the payment counter to give me my keys he sent a mechanic, who did not work on car, instead of coming and talking to me and he never apologized for any of this! read more

What. A. Nightmare. This place is an absolute sh*t show. We drove 300+ miles, confirmed over and OVER AND OVER again with Isaac that everything was in line for the vehicle to be purchased so we could be back on the road in a reasonable amount of time as we had our hound daughter with us. We were assured everything was in order. We show up and waited for THREE HOURS while he unprofessionally tried to juggle other sales at the same time. I let him know in advance exactly when we would be arriving, everything should've been printed up and ready to go upon our arrival. I had numerous conversations with Isaac and let him know that we would be using only our trade-in as down payment. I gave him ALL of the details of my vehicle including a photo of the odometer which showed 181,000. He told me I would be receiving A MINIMUM of $7,000-$8,000 for my trade. When we arrived there were multiple undisclosed issues with the vehicle, including an additional 5,000 miles on the vehicle beyond what was listed on the ad on Auto Trader. Including a hole in the headliner where the phone speaker/microphone was dangling because it didn't work. Isaac said he had no idea that was missing. The vehicle had obviously been used for the dealer demo vehicle, hence the 5,000 additional miles so there's no way this was new news. No discount was offered for any of the issues, however they attempted to say that they thought I stated my trade in only had 100,000 even though they had a photo of the odometer reading. Suddenly they're saying they're going to lose $4,000 on my trade which is total BS. I worked for large dealerships and I'm well aware of my vehicles trade value. Then, when paperwork is being signed they squeezed in a $4,000 down payment needed for the vehicle. Knowing we had told him that we were only using the trade in vehicle as our down payment. Apparently they were trying to squeeze the $4,000 they tried to say they were losing on my loan. Total bait and switch. Waste of money and time. Save yourself the trouble. How on earth does this place have five stars. They deserve zero stars. Worst customer service I have EVER experienced at ANY place. After finding out the car I want was still there I made an appointment to see it the following day. I get there and the car is dirty, a water bottle wedged in between the seats, the care salesman smelled like cigarettes which is the last thing you want to smell when viewing a car. He pulled over into the FORD dealership to let me drive and says "sorry, salesman ego." We tried to negotiate a price with him and he laughed in our face. We left, I called the next day and they upped the price they originally said by a few hundered dollars. They ran my credit through numerous banks which dinged my credit after deciding I would NOT give a penny to this horrible dealership. I ended up buying elsewhere and I'm so glad I did. My first car buying experience was very "unfortunate" (I should say "is" as it's still ongoing) and all started here. Things started out well: I reached out to Merle Stone to buy a Chevy Volt 2016 and was helped out by salesman, Joel Alvarez. He said that the car would still need to complete a Pre-Delivery Inspection but is ready to go off the lot after. Also, there was another interested buyer and he told me to come early which helped me secure the Volt I currently have (or don't have...I'll explain). So I come in early the next morning and everything went fairly quick and well; I checked it out, test drove it; everything seemed fine and signed the papers (and left feeling like I got a great local deal - I drove 45 minutes). The following evening I was hoping to take it for a nice drive and found a horrendous surprise of a "Check Engine Light" - in actuality, there was something wrong with my Volt the same afternoon I drove it off the lot (according to OnStar). At this point, I'm not sure what to think as this is a brand new car (not sure if it's a coincidence that this is happening to an American car...). Merle Stone was already closed and Chevy service centers don't open on Sundays so I read articles, forums, and internet posts detailing similar issues with the new Volt, most tend to be minor in nature and I was hoping for this to be a fluke CEL. As Michael Stone said it best, it, "Unfortunately", was not a fluke and my new Volt has been in my local Chevy service for almost two weeks now. What was a CEL, turned into a part replacement, fuse issue, and now a full on battery replacement...on a brand new car. Initially, I did reach out to Merle Stone to see how myself and a brand new car could end up in such a perdicament; how a PDI and other forms of dealership vehicle prep procedures could miss "three" distinct issues that OnStar was able to quickly detect and report less than hour off the lot on the same day (making it rather convincing that the car could have been sold in this condition). I reached out to them, Joel, Sales Manager Greg, Owner Larry Stone but ultimately ended with Michael Stone. "Unfortunately," his response to my reaction and how he handled my situation; his reasoning, communication, and overall mannerism, helped me see clearly how and why I ended up in this situation. My original reaction was, of course typical, to see if I could unwind this deal (who would want to keep a brand new car with these kinds of issues?). And, "there's no cooling-off period." Sure...but for a brand new car (let alone, it happening to a first time car buyer) was unacceptable to my standards and I'm sure, by most. In the end, I was not looking for certainty, but really just wanted the option and courtesy from a business to take ownership of a problem that was beyond the customer. I feel that this whole endeavor could have been easily avoided and saved from me from my first and worst car buying experience if things were done properly and handled more professionally. I'm still out a brand new car and having to work with a local Chevy service to my new Volt going again but am not confident that this vehicle will be problem-free for the rest of the year. If i could give zero stars i would. Worst customer service EVER! Went to check out some cars, no one was there to greet me, walked in and no one even bothered to help. Won't be going back I'll get my car elsewhere since these a**holes have a stick up their ass. read more
