We stayed at the inn and ate dinner at the restaurant and both were fabulous. Incredibly meticulous decorations and the attention to detail is great. The bed is very elevated, though. Right on the road so some traffic noise but not too bad. Great history and the CIA trained chefs definitely earned their paychecks. This family run business is near perfect. read more

Had an amazing lunch. We definitely over ordered because we wanted to try everything. I had Caesar salad with shrimp it was super yummy and lots of shrimp. We ordered some shareable. The potato spirals are a really good as well as soft pretzel. Only complaint was mustard was served with pretzels. I would like to see a beer cheese option. Husband had burger and fries and it was great portions and really good. The Mac and cheese was good and plentiful. Will definitely be back again when I'm the area. read more

We had a lovely experience here at the Stone Hearth Inn and Eatery. We had dinner the first night here and it was delicious. I had a Gorgonzola salad with chicken. Everything was fresh! We stayed at the Inn for 2 nights. The Inn is beautifully decorated and welcoming. Breakfast is included and there is a decent menu to choose from- eggs, bacon, sausage, toast! The food is made fresh-to-order. The chefs are CIA graduates and it shows. The rooms are comfortable. It's an old house so there is some creaking and noise travels, but everything was clean and had nice touches. My mom and I stayed here a night in September and loved it! We ate at the eatery for lunch and dinner and had great meals both times. The portions were generous, the prices were very reasonable, and the food was delicious. I'd describe the menu as classic American fare with seasonal and international twist (specials included some Indian dishes at the time). I had the small portion of both salads for lunch and dinner, respectively, with grilled chicken. My mom had the lobster mac. For dinner we shared the house-made pretzels - they did not disappoint!! Keep in mind that if you do go to the restaurant that it's semi-counter service - you order at the counter, then they bring you your meal to your table and clear it for you. There's outdoor dining, as well. I'm not sure about alcohol because we didn't look to purchase/order any. The restaurant also has a small bakery with house made cakes, breads, and other pastries that they make daily. Breakfast was also delicious, large portions (compared to most B&Bs) and quick. They do a traditional eggs/bacon/sausage and toast option OR their special of the day (which was a Belgian waffle). They also have a cold cereal bar available, along with coffee and juice. As for the Inn itself, the general common areas are well appointed and very up-to-date considering the age of the house/property. I can't remember how old they said the building was but it certainly looked to be at least 1800's. Our room was comfortable and clean. I'd say my only *complaint* is that the rooms themselves need a tad more TLC from a renovation standpoint, but I'm assuming at some point the new owners will work their way around, since it can be no easy feat to renovate an entire Inn in a short amount of time. But there's really no need to spend much time in your room anyhow, because the property is gorgeous and they have nice seating on the front porch and in the rear by the gardens. This is the kind of place I could see renting out for a private event (baby shower, celebration of life, bridal shower). The location was also great - it's a stone's throw (1.3 miles or so) from the center of Chester, VT, which is an adorable town with tons of cute little gift shops, cafes, and a couple restaurants (if you don't eat at the Inn, of course!). It's also fairly accessible from 91, for those traveling from CT/MA/NH. Staff/owner(s) were also friendly and available. Accommodated us for an early check-in due to availability. Anyway, we hope to return. read more

This was the coziest little place that my daughter who is almost 10 years old and I went to when we were spending a weekend away in Vermont. My daughter enjoyed buttered pasta, and I loved the broccoli and cheddar soup with local Vermont cheddar. I also had a salad that was winter kale with butternut squash and it was delicious. The place was super cozy and warm for the holiday time with a warm fireplace and multiple decorated trees and it was very well lit outside. I highly recommend it would happily go back in the area again. read more

Room was clean but small towels and they were rough. Tv couldn't work correctly and no instructions. No heat or air conditioning. Steep and dangerous stairs to get to the rooms. Breakfast was average. The only thing exceptional about the breakfast was the blueberry oat muffin. And maybe the backyard view. The he proprietor was very nice! read more

We had visited the old Stone Hearth restaurant many times, but had not had a chance since it was under new ownership. I have to say really pleasantly surprised! Cozy, nice menu with lots of flavor. Really happy with the meal and will definitely go back again. 2 in our party had the chicken tikka masala, and very pleased. I had the lentil Shepards pie. Delicious ! Other friend had the lentil soup also happy. Husband liked the beer selection. Really wish them well because I feel like the town needs a casual place to go for a nice meal with wordly flavors. They are also expert bakers, but we did not try the baked goods- this time. Will definitely return! read more

I visited this restaurant a few nights ago. I haven't been since it changed hands and has been renovated. It looked nice. I was there for nothing but a cup of soup. I walked in, asked the hostess if she had any and she said yes, she had 2 soups. One was a bisque and the other CLAM chowder. I ordered the chowder and some hand cut fries to go. I waited over a half an hour for these to come out, but that was not the issue. I opened the chowder to add some pepper and discovered that it had beacon on top of it. I don't eat beacon. I asked the hostess to take it back and she said she could 'scrape' off the beacon and I said ok, but then she brought it back out and informed me that there was beacon throughout...it's clam chowder...WTF. So I nicely asked for a refund. She went back into the kitchen and told me that wasn't possible. I was shocked. She then went on to tell me that if I had read the menus that were on the counter, I would have known there was beacon. I apologized for not reading them, but assumed CLAM chowder was beaconless. She again said I should've read the menus and kept insisting that it was my fault. I reminded her of how we met with me simply asking for the soup choices which she gladly told me and then didn't think to read up on it as nobody I've ever ordered clam chowder from puts beacon on top let alone uses as an ingredient in CLAM chowder. She said she could list all of the ingredients for anything on the menus and basically again blamed me for not asking. I just wanted a cup of soup. I couldn't believe they wouldn't refund me the soup and I didn't have an extra half hour to wait for another cup of soup which she informed me was made to order, not just sitting around all day in a pot (I wish it was). So baffled, I took the soup and gave it my husband who is a bit of a clam chowder aficionado and he said it was terrible. Tasted like beacon soup! I was truly baffled that they wouldn't refund me the money for just a bowl of soup...it wasn't like it was an entire meal. Unbelievable and she had total attitude with from that point on...I'm the customer. I drive by there all the time and would gladly stop back (frequently) if my encounter was friendlier (and tastier) and I know a LOT of people in the area that I will advise not to go there. I should've known better when I heard country music playing over the speakers .. NOT that I'm opposed to country music...there's a lot I love... But, it is a bit of a red flag in a 'hip' restaurant in the country. Is this part of the new Trump era? Sad to see and be part of. read more

We stayed for a few days on a recent trip to Vermont. And really enjoyed our stay. Victoria made us feel very welcome and the accommodations were very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and it is interesting to walk around the grounds. Also convenient to many areas we wanted to see. We will be back on our next Vermont trip. read more

I had some family visit this establishment this evening for dinner. For some reason this place has you pay when you put in your order, which is before you are even seated. When the dinners arrived at the table there was a question about one of the fish dinners and if it was fully cooked. The waitress took the dinner to the kitchen. The chef promptly came to the table and informed them that fresh cod looks this way when properly cooked. With the explanation, everything was fine. The owner was at a nearby table, eavesdropping on the conversation at my families table. There was a comment made in jest. The owner then proceeded to go to my families table and berate them for the comment. She continued to argue with them to the point that my family opted to leave their meals because they were so embarrassed by her actions. There was no offer for an apology or refund given by the owner. Very, very poor customer service. I do not recommend this establishment at all. The owner even had the audacity to state that the only reason my family members had a problem was because they were American and she is English. Wonderful how she played the racist card. read more

The best way to start this review is to begin with the low-budget refurbishing of a once delapidated house. Begin with painted over wallpaper, cheap bed frames and mattress (no box spring), simple and unattractive curtains with nailed in curtain rods. Bathrooms are appointed with very low-cost towels that you'd expect from a motel, not a B&B where room costs exceed $200/night. Move towards the kitchen/restaurant and endure the scent of mold/mildew. Next comes the breakfast offerings from the self-proclaimed "chefs" that apparently attended the Culinary Institute of America. Their breakfast consisted of only eggs w/toast or French toast, along with bacon or sausage. The eggs were very over cooked. The sausage was burned and dry and I'll assume leftover from the previous day. It was bad enough that I spit it out. No fresh fruit other than overly soft apples. Given it appeared bad upon arrival I was surprised that Vicky, the owner, would even attempt to serve it. Yet, she did without any hesitation. Overall, it's a very cheapened experience that I'd strongly advise you to avoid. read more
