I found this old wallet that my late mother owned when going thru all of her things. I hadn't seen it in years, last memory of it was her getting money out of it to buy TAB soda (Thats before Diet Coke came around) with it . I told him I needed to get a missing stud reinstalled so it would snap into the socket and keep the change pocket closed. Stumbled upon this leather shop as I was taking a stroll around the beach with my boyfriend one Friday afternoon. We saw that there were leather scraps for sale & a ton of other cool tools for sale so we walked right on in. Eric was amazingly friendly & we had a great conversation about the joys of artisan crafts + being an artist, free to create at will. I recently purchased a watch for myself but I have tiny kid-size wrists which makes finding a suitable watch that doesn't slide around quite difficult for me. So I figured why not see if I could get a hole punched while we were there. Eric said he didn't have the exact leather punch but could still make a new hole for me. The employees there definitely know their stuff and customer service is king here. The verbiage that bounces around the store is not for the feint of heart however, which I find refreshing. Can't say enough about this business. My boyfriends late mother got him a gift certificate here back in 2015. We never got a chance to use it because we moved. On a visit back, we decided to stop in and have a new belt made. I bought a leather bag from a local shop, which was handmade in Mexico. Apparently, the bag was made using traditional curing methods because it smelled horrible. I tried leather cleaner, baking soda, and airing it out in the sun. But, alas, the poo smell would not go away. Luckily, w friend of mine recommended Eric at Stonehedge, and he did not disappoint. After texting photos and giving detailed info regarding the project - answering several questions and giving detailed responses - I asked for a ballpark estimate. Not a quote just a very general estimate of what it would cost. More like a range to gauge what it might cost. No reply. I texted again no reply. I called but was out on an eternal hold, left a message with his mom who works in the shop and she said he'd get back to me. Even stopped by the store and waited while he helped customer after customer but was never given the time of day. Intense guy who likes to talk about himself. However, this didn't bother me one bit. In fact, when it comes to leather workers, I want the craftsman to have an ego the size of a crater and the energy of Charlie Sheen on crack who is pumped up on winning juice. So I have this cool leather bracelet, and I wanted a 4-letter word engraved on it. No, not a naughty word! Rather, I wanted " S. P . Q. R ", which is the Roman word for Rome. I also wanted it done in the classic Roman font of the times. When I showed the big guy the font, he explained that it would be a custom job and run me $25 per letter. He explained that the font blocks they have are limited, and the only font they had on hand was the traditional western cowboy font that you see on tousirty leather wallets at gift shops in places like New Mexico. Obviously, this font would look lame on my bracelet, and I can't afford $100 on an engraving, so I was headed out the door. Before I could leave he gave me some advise on how I might be able to network and find someone who would do it cheaper. It was very nice of him to offer these ideas. I don't know if $25 per letter is expensive, as I have never priced this type of thing before. All i know is that it is too rich for my unemployed blood. I did see some custom work he did though, and it is very good. I mean, the guy is clearly a master of his craft. I wish he had the ability to do this work at a cheaper rathe though. I mean, tattoo artists would charge half or even less than half the price of doing 4 letters. I guess i don't see the difference in burning something into leather versus inking something onto skin with a needle gun. So to sum it all up, if you are looking for QUALITY work, and you have a lot of money to invest, I totally recommend this place for a job that will be well done. read more

Eric is an absolute boss, he's very accomodating to the military community and loves us to death. He'll be more than happy to hook you up, both in getting the work done quickly and with the price. He even offered to do a special deal where he'll make the pockets on an aviator's brown leather jacket accessible to your hands. I came into this weird little leather shop on the beach after being recommended by a leather craftsman. After entering the weathered establishment I was greeted by Eric sitting in the back working on a leather item and told him I wanted to make a leather accessory. He asked if I had a design... I said no. I was immediately told I either needed to create a design myself and then come back or pay him to help me. I felt little intimidated and not welcome. But then I met "Ma". Ma generously showed me around and went through all the different types of leathers on hand (all different kinds and colors) and showed me pics of previous designs. After being showed around by Ma and talking again to Eric I came back with my design and Eric help me create a one of a kind design with expert craftsmanship and did it rush in less than 4 days. If you go in wanting a piece made by him, come in with AT LEAST some sketches or better yet design it yourself with felt instead of leather and bring that in (that's what I did). After getting to know Eric and his abilities I am definitely coming back for a custom wallet at the very least. read more

I had a belt custom made several years ago for a friend. I drove way out to this little shop & the guy was super helpful and went over all the options with me. I paid a couple hundred for the belt & left. I came back a few weeks later with my friend - he had no idea what I had bought. I inquired about a blank belt that was on display & the guy threw it in for free. My friend loved his belt & how awesome it came out. He wore it almost everyday for years & it held up beautifully - you can still see the intricate carving in it. Sadly, it's now been retired, but kept as a cherished momento.
