I love to come here and practice soccer however I don't think it's suitable for full soccer game the grass is completely un even with dry spots wet spots dirt spots random odd patches of an even dirt... I have however played a pick up softball game here and went well. The waterpark is very cool for kids however not for adults less you want to hear screaming kids all day :) I have a friend that plays basketball here every few days he enjoys it :) 3 stars for the name as I always get a funny reaction when I tell people I went to Stoner Park :)

This is a great local park, and if you happen to live around the area I would highly advise that you come and check it out. This park has free-to-use tennis courts which are great. The lights are bright, and they are open until 10:30. The best part is that if it never full, so you can just show up anytime at night with friends to play some tennis. Parking is a breeze with plenty of street parking readily available. Some of the parks around LA tend to attract homeless people. Fortunately for this park, the tennis area is 100% free from the homeless, giving is a "friendlier" feel. I never felt unsafe or sketched out even when leaving the courts at 10:30PM in the dark. Highly recommended!

Stopped in at 1030 this morning to vote. No line, only one other person there. Plenty of street parking. Electronic process was quick and everyone friendly. Get out and vote!

This review isn't for the park itself, but a 3 hour private class that took over the fitness equipment - which is illegal and the cops and rangers aren't doing anything about it! My husband biked over to use the fitness equipment earlier today and there was a class going on. He came back home, went back in two hours and it was still going on!!! When he asked the organizer when it would wrap up - he got an attitude and the guy even took his photo as he was waiting. I understand private classes in the open spaces, but they took over the equipment that is set up for all of us to use. The police and rangers need to enforce the rules. And of course, there was no mask wearing or social distancing going on.

It's nice to see 6 reviews already for Stoner! Yay for park reviews. And shut up about the name of the park, we know, we know.....hahaha.... And yeah it has its share of stoners, as most all parks do, who hang out and pass the time and stare at clouds.....oh wait....that was me. Never mind. The park is not named for the wistful ones, however. It's named for the street it's on. There's lots to do at Stoner. There are 2 handball courts, several tennis courts (lighted), ball fields (some lighted) including soccer nets, a huge kiddie playground with modern equipment, a basketball court.... The basketball court looked a little run down. And I did see what appeared to be a homeless encampment on the grounds, but it was quiet and they weren't bothering anybody on a Sunday afternoon. Stoner has a parking lot, but I parked on one of the small residential streets that surrounds the park, no problem. It's a very quiet neighborhood. There's a Senior Center with senior/adult daycare. It sure could use some refurbishing of the exterior though, up around the roofline where the paint is peeling from the fascia. Heads up, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. The community/rec center is huge, and has a gym. Nice. Next to it is the pool, with a water slide. Very nice. In January the water was drained, but I got photos anyway. In fact I posted pics of everything mentioned in this review, except the stoners. : D There is a rather sad fitness trail circling the park. I saw only a few stations, but I didn't walk all the way around the ball fields, so maybe I missed something. But I doubt it. Next to the rec center is a grassy picnic area with BBQs, in use the afternoon I stopped by. Families with kids were enjoying a beautiful balmy day. According to the banners on the side of the rec center building, Stoner offers a variety of sports & other programs. Cool. I especially liked the little Japanese garden, out in front of the pool area. It's an unexpected surprise, a lovely place with big shade trees, small paths, and quiet seating areas. And cherry blossom trees. Overall, this park seems to serve its community well, and that's the name of the game when it comes to parks. I posted 20 photos.

Despite its ridiculous name, Stoner Rec is no joke. It has a Japanese garden (dedicated at least 50 years ago), a pool, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, bbqs, a senior center, handball courts, picnic tables, jungle gyms, tennis courts and baseball diamonds. It could certainly use some TLC. There is a pointless fence along the north and west sides that only makes it harder to get into the park and the baseball diamonds are so close together that adult leagues can only use one at a time. Still, it is a great place to waste away a day. --- Take the Big Blue Bus #1, 5, or 14 or Metro #4 or 704.

People arrive early with blankets, picnic baskets, snacks, and drinks, creating such a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere before the show even begins. A few tips from our experience: There is a large free parking lot, and it's well organized with bright signs leading you all the way to the performance area. Even though it was our first visit, finding the venue wasn't difficult--it just felt like a fun little adventure! Even on a Wednesday, the crowd was surprisingly large, so arriving early is definitely worth it. (Independent Shakespeare Co.) Bring a blanket, but don't forget a small cushion! The performance lasts over two hours, and sitting on the ground can get uncomfortable. If you're bringing folding chairs, please sit toward the back so everyone can enjoy the view. There is a 20-minute intermission, giving you plenty of time to stretch your legs, grab a snack, or refill your tea. It gets much cooler after sunset, so bring a light jacket or something warm to throw over your shoulders. A thermos of hot tea is a great idea too. Feel free to bring food and drinks, but be prepared to share your picnic with a few curious bees and other insects. There is a portable restroom on-site, and if it's locked, the access code is 3343. The production quality really impressed us. Professional lighting, excellent sound, microphones--it honestly felt like watching a performance in a real theater, just under the stars. Video recording isn't allowed during the performance, so you can simply relax and enjoy the moment. The host also shared some exciting news--they're building a brand-new stage nearby, and there's a good chance next season's performances will take place there. We'll definitely be back in August for The Comedy of Errors. If you're looking for one of the most unique free summer experiences in Los Angeles, this is one I highly recommend.

However, if you're looking to do a flat walk or run, the 4 mile loop around the Harding Golf Course is as simple as it can get. It's a dirt path that can feel like beach sand in some areas and can be shaded or in full sun. I enter the Autry Museum Parking lot and park at the south side of the lot near the trail for free. It's across the street from the LA Zoo. I do this walk with a friend that lives in the area. It's not a trail I would drive out of my way for. I've seen people running, with their dogs and even one lady walking on stilts.

Perfect hike for a hot day…read more I love waterfall hikes and listening to the sound of calm, running water. The added challenge on these hikes is the multiple stream crossings. I brought some hiking poles which helped with balance and probing for loose rocks and logs. If you want to get parking in the lower lot, it's best to come before 8AM. We found parking in the second lot. An Adventure Pass or Day Pass is required. Parking is enforced. A car received a ticket for being in a No Parking zone. The start of the trail is nicely shaded. The second half is a hilly, narrow, sun exposed path which routes back into the canyon toward the Lower Switzer Falls. I'm glad they had fencing on some narrow and steep parts of the trail. We encountered an active rattlesnake which headed down the mountain, so be on the lookout. Overall, the hike takes about 3 hours for 5.5 miles. The additional hike back up to the parking lot was about 1/4 of a mile. Note: if you need to use the restroom, it's best to bring your own toilet paper and to go before you start your hike. It was kind of smelly, but if you gotta go... you gotta go.

What impressed me most about this trail is that it's almost fully covered by shade. We went in the late afternoon, and I'd say probably 80-85% of it is covered. Very impressive! Here are some useful tips: 1. There are three parking lots: two are next to the highway, and one is near the hiking entrance. I'd recommend getting a parking pass if possible. 2. There are only three restrooms at the beginning of the trail, so use them when you see them. 3. If you're aiming to go to the waterfall, make sure to look for the signs. Some signs aren't very clear, so we had to stop and ask other hikers frequently. Luckily, people there are super friendly and happy to help. Just pay attention to your surroundings. 4. The trail is dog-friendly, but dogs must be on a leash. 5. Waterproof hiking boots are recommended. All in all, it's a fun trail. It's a great place for a picnic and camping, and it's very close to the stream. Great for kids, families, and pets!

Decorating our lanterns, enjoying the atmosphere, and watching the lanterns on the water together made for a great family memory. That part was awesome. But everything else? Not so much. Parking was excruciatingly bad. There were only about three people directing cars at the entrance, so it took forever just to get in and park. If you arrive early, you end up parking farthest away from the actual event and have a long walk. Getting out after the event was even worse. With basically one exit, traffic barely moved. We were stuck about an hour just to get out. RIDICULOUS. My advice: park outside the park if possible and walk in. The food situation wasn't much better. They had plenty of food trucks, but everything was overly expensive, the lines were long, and you're looking at around a 30-minute wait for food. Another tip: bring your own food and drinks.
