Stop and Shop was ok at one point but that was so long ago it feels like a distant memory. I used to go every weekend and now I go only when I have to. The prices aren't great. There are almost not registers open. Some items are sold out. And don't get me started with self checkout. The line is a mile long with people who are buying 200 items. There was a woman I noticed at self checkout when I went in to get four things. She was still there when I left 10 minutes later. There aren't a lot of good grocery stores, but there aren't many as bad as Stop and Shop either. read more

I have lived in Bedford almost 28 years and have seen this supermarket continually decline year after year. I was fully expecting it to be one of the closures that parent company announced today but it was not. I have recently started going to Market Basket in Billerica (although not as convenient) because the prices on average are 15-20% less than S&S Bedford. It seems that Market Basket's regular prices are about the same or better than S&S sale prices. Store traffic is dismal in Bedford at almost all parts of the day while Market Basket is busy with many registers staffed regardless of the time of day. S&S usually only staffs the self service area and one or two registers. The deli counter is abysmal since the pandemic as they no longer make anything on premises like chicken, ham, seafood or potato salads, etc. The butcher on premises is very nice and has helped out when I needed something I didn't see but the prices again are quite high for marginal quality stuff they put on the shelves. While I still shop there, I try to limit my buying only to sale items and have started to use Market Basket more frequently. C'mon Stop & Shop, get your act together and fix this store! read more

This past Friday I shopped at the Stop and Shop in Bedford, MA. I purchased some low sodium sliced ham. When I got the ham home and wanted to eat some it was bad. Spoiled 13.00 worth of Ham. I returned it to the Stop and Shop in Bedford where I bought it. The service desk would not refund my money as they said it was store policy. They would only give me a money card to purchase more ransit ham. There was a chunky woman on the service desk that was beligerant and loud. She just kept ranting away. I asked for the store manager and she replied it won't make a differance. She was right the store manager arrived and he appeared as dumb as a tree stump and did not want to get involved. This is a very poor way to run a business. The customer is treated like they could care less. As Bedford is a very nice town with an Air Force Base adjacent to it I can't believe the Bedford people put up with this Stop and Shop and it's nonsense. I will not be shopping at Stop and Shop anymore. I will go to Market Basket instead. Who knows I will probably save a lot of money. Stop and Shop is very expensive. The workers are rude to say the least. How the Stop and Shop manages to stay in business is beyound me. The Bedford store is dirty and has a metal plate in the floor towards the rear of the store that pops up when you walk over it. Someone is going to trip on it and break a leg for sure. I guess the store manager just doesn't care. I used my charge card for the purchase and also used my Stop and Shop rewards card. Why they could not verify the purchase and issue a credit on my charge card is beyound me and common sense. read more

Salad bar lady is great. Been going for 6 years now. Sux when she isn't on. Robot is stupid and its supposed to keep people from falling by notifying staff when there is a spill on the floor or something on the floor someone could potentially slip-on. I'm barely ever up in this area, but was driving through and saw this Stop&Shop in a plaza off Route 225. There weren't any other Stop&Shop locations on my way home, so I thought, why not? It's not like I was buying much frozen or refrigerated stuff, plus it wasn't THAT long a ride home. This Stop&Shop is one of the only in the area, and definitely my preferred supermarket in Bedford, rather than Whole Foods (I barely ever go to any Whole Foods store.....). On the smaller side for a Super Stop&Shop, but still has most everything you'd need in a grocery store and more. That's why I love Stop&Shop the most. They have more than just groceries, they have full sections of seasonal stuff, magazines, pet stuff, clearance, hardware and more. Always more eventful and convenient to shop at Stop&Shop than a store like Whole Foods, Shaw's or Roche if you need anything else than food (which isn't a rarity for me). It's not in desperate need of renovation, but could use one to become one of those Stop&Shops that is just more than pleasant. :) Staff are friendly, and keep the store organized in every department. More than enough registers open, SCAN-IT, and self checkout. Deli, produce, seafood seemed fresh, well stocked and well priced as well (I was expecting a price increase from my normal S&S to up here in a more wealthy area....). Completely DEAD on any Monday night, and I gotta say, this is one of the few Stop&Shop's where everything rings up at an accurate price. No overcharges at the Bedford store! 4 stars for this Stop&Shop, great choice for a supermarket and general store in the area. Much better selection than the Stop&Shop five minutes up the road in Lexington. read more

This store is so overpriced that it isn't even funny. We decided to give it a shot since it was right down the street but I will continue to shop at Market Basket in Burlington. The workers here are far from friendly. I couldn't find a single person on the floor to help me find what I was looking for. The only friendly person was a man stocking the cheese and I'm not even sure if he is a worker at the store itself or he just brings in cheese. Who knows. Its the closest one to work... Ran in today for an Ice Cream cake & was able to run in & grab it & run out... Has a decent salad bar & you know what to get here... Somtimes busy at lunch time & being that it is in the middle of the shopping plaza... All in all a good store! read more

So yesterday I wrote a review for Sudbury Farms in Needham and gave it a 3-star due to the limited selection. On the flip side, I would give Market Basket a 5 since it has a massive selection and everything is always priced competitively. Somewhere in between is Stop and Shop. I mainly go to this one since it is fairly close to work. It can be busy at noon, so I usually take a late lunch. It is a pretty good size store and they do a good job of showcasing the sale items (for example, they had a stand in the front of the store with Barilla pasta and Bertoli sauce; both on sale this week). They also have a "bargain aisle" that is always worth going down. I'd recommend checking the online circular before going. They seem to always have a ton of good stuff on sale. Today I saved $22 according to my receipt. Another noteworthy mention is the gas rewards program. For every dollar you spend, you get 1 point on your Stop and Shop card (you can order one online). For every 100 points, you get 10 cents off per gallon. You can get up to 30 cents off (so, that would cost you 300 points). A typical fill up for me is 14 gallons, so I can save between $1.40 and $4.20. Not bad for grocery shopping, something I have to do anyways. I'm 99% positive the Shell station on Great Road is part of this program. If not, I'm 100% positive the Stop and Shop gas stations will work. Seems like my advice is the same on many of my reviews - go during an off-peak time and you won't have an issue. read more

Stop N Shop is somewhat overpriced. They carry the same brand of food as Market Basket, but charge a bit more. The place is nice, clean, and organize. However, I had a not so great experience with one cashier. She made a mistake and overcharge me..somehow? She printed out the receipts and said "Can you bring this to the front Customer Service, I DON'T WANT TO" Oo....K.. So I did, and I handed the guy the receipt and explained to him that she wanted me to hand the receipt to redeem my cash back. I was completely confuse. The guy looked at the receipt and the name and he said 'Oh, her again." So, that was that. The only reason I even gave it a decent 3 stars is because I had a very pleasant exchange with the florist. I shopped here a few times over the last decade until the last few months when I began to visit here regularly. Although their prices tend to be higher than Market Basket, coupons can be doubled here. I have to admit to a certain level of excitement when I hand the cashier a stack of coupons and watch as the final bill go down. However, what inspired me to write this review today was the good customer service that we encountered yesterday. There was an error with our order yesterday in that certain items didn't get an in-store discount that was posted on the shelves. The customer service representative quickly determined the errors and refunded the difference. read more

Their produce selection is awful. Went in to grab green peppers today and they were all shriveled up and soft-ish. I ended up grabbing yellow peppers because they were the only colored peppers that didn't look horrible. Got to self check out and only then did ii realize I was paying 1.99 a piece for them. What has happened to this store? It used to be my go-to store in my town but not any more. Prices are higher than other stores in the area and increasingly I can't find what I need there. Last week I stopped in for a few things and the **** robot almost crashed into my 91-year-old deaf mother. Last night I stopped in again for a few items - no yellow onions, shriveled old garlic and only 1 cashier open. When someone finally came to open another register, I thought well at least they saw the long line forming - but no, they opened another register and closed the one I was in! I hate this store. Not only is it expensive, but the produce selection is mediocre and the staff is often unhelpful. One person who is especially unhelpful is the young man who oversees the self-checkout area. He often just stands around doing nothing. Recently I was there behind this old guy who was sooo slow. Instead of bagging for him, that young staff member just stood there as usual. (Also today I saw the man discard coupons from the self-checkout machine that I had left for the next shopper to look at.) And to top it off they don't have a bike rack! read more

Make sure to double check all large barcode scanned items. They double charge on just about one in ten items. They double charged me on a large fruit platter and they have double charged me on three separate occasions on large 12 pack soda cans (I had to spend a few minutes each time with customer service getting it right). I'm only expecting good prices here, not good service, so the double charging takes away from the okay prices. read more

I have been patronizing this store for two years; several Pros and Cons have been noted. Pros: 1. Prices are good with loyalty card; reasonable, when compared to Wegmans or Whole Foods. 2. Wide selection of products and services. 3. Convenient location (depending on where you live). Cons: 1. Though I have been a regular customer for years; I have sometimes been trailed and monitored by employees. It is overt and happened again today. I have dark hair/ tan complexion which is, apparently, suspect in the Bedford Stop and Shop. 2. While some employees are professional and helpful; these are the exceptions instead of the rule. 3. There are often no baggers available on weekends; have frequently had to bag my own groceries to assist cashier. Conclusion: Considering a change. read more

Terrible customer service. The prices are higher, the checkout counters do not always register the advertised price and the checkout clerk we got was argumentative. The manager on duty had a nonchalant, don't care kind of attitude. All for us asking to reverse a few cents from the price of an ice-cream. My experience from May 18, 2010. If I'm in the area, I usually go to this location or the one in Lexington, MA. The Lexington shop is smaller and older, and it seems to be more crowded. Today was Bedford day. I don't really know if this place is considered a super-shop, but it is pretty large and modern and nestled in an area with a good Chinese restaurant, a Paper Store, TJ Maxx, etc. The salad bar has a good selection, and there are a few soups on the "menu." The NE clam chowder is pretty decent, and I usually bring home a tiny cup for us to share. The fruit and meat sections are extensive, and the deli department is well-stocked. There are two aisles in the middle of the store dedicated to Easter stuff (I've never seen so much candy and such a selection of baskets) and in the front of the store, near the deli section, is an area devoted to Passover holiday necessities. As expected, prices are high, much higher than those of Market Basket. True story: Today, my grocery store bill was $12.04. I only had a $20 bill and two singles, so I gave the cashier $22.04. He asked me if I wanted change. Umm. This is a grocery store, and I certainly wasn't going to give him a $10 tip for putting four items into the bag. Maybe he didn't get the memo that this wasn't a restaurant and that he wasn't a waiter. So I told him yes, that I needed 10 bucks back. He almost looked mad, as if I had "stiffed" him. I have shopped at the stop and shop on Rte 9 in Westboro MA for the past 25 years. In the last 2 years I have noticed that the produce has gone down hill. The fruits and vegetables are just awful and so expensive. I don't know what happened but I understand from an employee that they changed buyers. Well obviously they aren't eating what they are buying. You also need to be careful when purchasing meat and dairy watch those outdates! I will now be going to Wegmans they are more expensive but worth the produce products. It's a shame because stop and shop meats have always been the best in the area. read more

I visit this grocery store early in the morning after school drop off. I have been quite happy here. I find items here that I can't find in my local Shaws/Star. The selection is a little different, which I appreciate. Love the bakery in the morning. Open up the case and pick out your favorite warm muffins! The produce is not amazing, but usually adequate. I did once have to exchange sliced apples that were bad. Customer Service was quick and easy to deal with. This store is well stocked. Say "Hi" to Vera at the checkout! read more

Today Jan.1, 2012 I called and asked their front desk if anyone had found/turned in a bag filled with my paid items, that I had left because i was in a hurry two days prior. Needless to say they had no such bag turned in but the nice women named Christine said to come in and pick up replacement items at no cost to me. I come into this store on a regular basis because it's the closest grocery to my work. I usually have no problem when I go in here but the last few times visiting the store I've been finding some things that I want to buy are expired on the the shelves I mean I get that product can be missed sometimes but really there's been a lot of things missed lately but the most ridiculous thing is when I'm getting ready to check out I almost always go through the self checkouts and I always see this young man I think he told me his name was Freddy always standing there looking like the customers are inconvenience him I mean I get that any job can be horrible at times but wearing an aggravated look on your face all the time isn't going to help bring customers into this store I mean if I saw that face every time I walked in I'd just walk right back out because I'd be afraid that I get yelled at by him and also he's not very helpful at times because when I need help occasionally he's no where to be found so I have to yell down to get someone to help me and this very nice lady always comes down to help me I figure she must run the front because she's always so polite and very helpful all the time read more
