One of the best stop and shops. S&S is better/cheaper than star, shaws and market basket. Trust me.

On the flip side, I would give Market Basket a 5 since it has a massive selection and everything is always priced competitively.

Being a military facility, I'd like to be positive. But that won't be the case here…read more I've been to commissaries all over the country. This one has to mark lowest on the list for several things. The meats, are not appealing. By 11:00 am, take the gray colored beef out of the case. The prices!! Commissaries are supposed to be affordable. These prices are higher than the grocery stores. I can have my cat foot delivered from Amazon for less. Mismarked products. Every time I come in, it seems something was marked lower than the scanned price. I never notice until I'm 100 miles away, back in 'Maine. This time I was more careful. The item was 33 % higher than the shelf tag price. It wasn't an expensive item, however I had to argue the point it was mismarked. On a good note, plenty of parking.

So, I'll be wicked blunt up front. I've been putting this update off for a while now. But I cannot…read morehold it in any longer. We gotta talk about one glaringly vexing aspect about the Hanscom Commissary that's simply too offensive to ignore. But in order to best understand this cruel and unusual managerial decision, I'll have to carefully explain what I *think* their intent probably was. Now, the self-checkout lanes (and basically EVERY check-out register, for that matter) have seen a massive upgrade since I first came to this spot. Contactless payment is the wave of the future and, to Hanscom AFB's credit, they have embraced this like a rottweiler on a T-Bone steak. As such, it wouldn't surprise me if the intent of the commissary management was to encourage all shoppers to do 99.9% of their transactions via the self-checkout kiosks. Granted, there's only 4 of them with at least 1 occasionally being ostensibly NMC on a rotational basis. Irregardless, that SHOULD be plenty enough for the amount of traffic one could expect a commissary so comparatively small to host. Thing is, though....they still have traditional check-out lanes with a cashier and bagger. Unfortunately, it is with the latter that I have BIG problem with and I'll tell you why. The commissary does not pay their baggers. Read that sentence again. Yeah. This is a thing. And I think it's cruel. Wanna know who DOES pay the baggers (albeit through a heavily coerced moral obligation)? The customers. May I ask why?! This type of thing pisses me off for several reasons. Firstly, it's analogous to a big oil company blaming the state of pollution on an average Joe failing to recycle their can of soda that one time. Second, it invariably passes the buck (no pun intended) to the average consumer, ultimately making them the defacto "boss" of the bagger. It's quite awkward when you consider the fact that (as far as I know) no other grocery stores do this. Again, I could be wrong. Someone please correct me if I am. Third, it makes no sense for management NOT to pay baggers since they still have to report to work regardless if 100% of all customers use the self checkout kiosks or not. Lastly, let's consider that in 2025, most individuals carry very little (if any) cash on them. Even then, it's likely 10s and 20s. I'm sorry. But there is NO way I am tipping $20 for a bagger to do a task I am fully capable of doing myself anyway. I suppose I could beg the cashier to break a 20 but...imagine the social awkwardness. Sure, there's signs that notify customers of the fact that baggers work for tips only. Unfortunately, most people probably won't see these signs until they've long since entered the store. See, THIS is what people mean when they say the tipping culture of America has gotten WAY out of hand. Just pay your damn baggers, management! It's not that difficult nor bizarre. If it ultimately means I pay slightly higher markups on grocery items, then so be it! I'm already paying with the assumption in mind that this place operates similarly to EVERY other store in the country. Plus, it's not like the selection here is all that vast anyway; especially when compared to other commissaries I've been to over the years. As it stands, I only come here for very specific items; either because they're far more expensive elsewhere, or due to a certain item being straight-up unavailable anywhere else. Speaking of which, don't even get me started on the items they've inexplicably pulled off the shelves, making me now have to order from the likes of Amazon just to obtain (R.I.P. Open Pit sauce). Look, this commissary is okay. But it'd be a lot better if they didn't celebrate tipping culture like the virtue it isn't. Pay your baggers! It works for the cashier's right? So, what's the difference? I'm updating Hanscom's Commissary with 2 baggers waiting for a paycheck that may never come out of 5.

This store is small but it is densely packed with a lot of organic options. Very clean and organized. They have a lot of unique products that can't be found in other grocery stores. The layout of the store is stratigically like a maze that would take you through the entire store leading to the cashier. The produce section is small. They tend to have a lot of clean organic food, which I love. I truly believe in their organic philosophy on their website. There are way too many nasty chemicals in foods these days. It is nice that Mom's organics exist. My only complaint is the price. I'm my opinion, they are overpriced. Look at the price of the coconut water in my picture. Compare it to Costco or Amazon and you can see the difference, even at this store's "sales" price. Overall, this is a much needed store but if it remains expensive, I don't think it will replace Wegmans nor whole food. Wegmans still give better value for $ on their organic foods.
