I had a very unpleasant experience at Stop & Shop. While checking out, I mistakenly thought the transaction had been completed and started to walk away. It was simply an honest mistake. An employee named Shane called out to me in a way that I found very rude and unprofessional. In addition, the employee who was bagging my groceries, a blonde woman wearing glasses, reacted by saying "Oh boy" in a clearly sarcastic tone. I completely understand that an employee needs to let me know if the payment process has not been completed, but there are respectful ways to handle situations like this. I do not think it is appropriate to treat customers with sarcasm or make them feel uncomfortable over a simple mistake. I hope management takes this type of behavior seriously and reminds employees of the importance of treating every customer with courtesy and respect. read more

I try to avoid this store if possible and I always check expiration dates on products because I have found cans of food that had expired months earlier. Recently there were multiple cans of condensed milk with an August 2025 expiration date that I found while shopping in November 2025. I also bought flowers one day and was charged a donation fee for absolutely no reason for a charity that the store was helping out through a special promotion (this was explained to me by a clerk when I complained about the extra charge). There was no signage advertising this at all. Can you imagine being conned into supporting their charity? Luckily, I always choose self-checkout and try to match prices with the amount being rung up. Just tonight I was charged $3.50 or 2 for $7.00, for plants that had a sign stating $2.50 or 2 for $5.00. I also had a small tub of prepared fruit with a sticker that said $3.12 but was charged $3.84. I went over my receipt when I got home and found the overcharge. I also hate their stupid robot. It's intrusive as well as annoying. Clements on Hope Street has better customer service and some items are even cheaper than Stop and Shop. I wish there was a Shaw's grocery store closer than Barrington or Middletown. read more

Update - I haven't shopped at this miserable hellhole in some time, because I try to avoid stressful, unrewarding activities and rotting food. However, my daughter just stopped by for a few things, and reported to me that things are probably worse. Thanks especially to the miserable deli counter help, who hate everyone and are clearly being held there against their will. This Stop and Shop location is slightly smaller than some others in the area. There is not a Dunkin Donuts inside. Boo. I find myself visiting here much more often than the Seekonk location. It is SO much quieter and I don't feel like I am in the Indy 500 when driving through the parking lot. The store is clean and most of the employees are friendly and helpful. One of my gripes though is that do not always have their advertised items. On a recent visit I had read through their circular and figured out a few meals and made a grocery list based on a few sale items. When I got to the store they were out of the sale items on my list, which was extremely frustrating. I had to plan out a few meals on the fly. Overall it's a decent place to do your grocery shopping. read more

But overall it's convenient for living in Bristol, and more than adequate, even for me who eats mostly organic/ gluten free stuff. I had the pleasure of shopping here during what was apparently "the suits are coming for inspection so be on your best behavior day". Somewhere around 25 bucktooth dunces that looked like their mothers picked out clothes from a 90s JcPenny catalog flooded the store, literally my 2nd worst nightmare(my worst nightmare was dreaming I got a knock on the door and seeing a clown frozen in a block of ice holding a knife). Now, I get it, corporate is going to do corporate things. I didn't expect them, however, to practice ancient sumarian military formations in every row. Guys, I just want to get my preparation H. No need to phalanx around the medicated creams. ALSO, guy in the pinstriped clown suit, this isn't a buffet, I saw you eating those grapes. Please pay stop and shop the equivalent of 8 cents for their loss, thank you. Anywho, I don't think I've ever seen the employees on such good behavior. A clerk actually asked me if I needed help finding something. Something I've rarely seen in a grocery store. God was it annoying. The intercom at 5 minute intervals would blast something to the effect of "we appreciate our customers, check out these great deals." Well, Stop and Shop, if you appreciate us so much, STOP PRETENDING THOSE MUFFINS ARE POSTACHIO MUFFINS. WHO DO YOU THINK YOU'RE FOOLING? YOU USED WALNUTS AND FOOD COLORING. THIS IS WHOLESALE DECEPTION AND I'M CALLING THE COPS. Also,not relevant to this specific store, but peapod is a terrible service. If anyone wants to pay a premium for food one day away from expiration, shipped between the hours of 20 minutes after estimated delivery and right before bed when you're about to go down on your wife(to anyone at corporate that might read this, look that up and learn a thing or two), it's a great service. Don't harass your Good Customers! This store has recently implemented a Security Officer, for "Asset Protection". Apparently they have a high degree of theft/loss etc at this store. I actually witnessed one experience myself and went on record as a "witness" with the Police. As I walked in to get my shopping cart, there was a pick-up truck running outside, as I turned a women with a cart full of goods grabbed her last items (bread and rolls, adjacent to the exit and darted out the door...and started tossing the cart full of goods into the pickup truck bed) I told the nearest clerk (of course the poor kid about 16-17 was petrified to confront them) another one told the manager, who was too busy to help!! As the other girl ran back out I told her to get the license plate, the girls were nearly struck by the vehicle screeching from the store front. I signed a statement attesting to this crazy thing!!! So like I said... Don't harass your good customers!! So I went to return meat that was not good (as in was rotten and smelly, not tasted bad, I would not consider cooking due to stench) in the process as I was in the customer service line, with several people behind me, the Asset Protection guy comes over, ...did you just bring that into the store? (Uhhh, yeah, that's usually what you do when you return something) he dug through the bag, 3 packages of the same meat mumbling something about the tags or whatever. I received my refund after being made to feel like I did something wrong and after being harassed with the other shoppers watching. Thanks for that wonderful experience. What about this Stop & Shop? Why don't you hire two security guards to sit at each of your exits much like Sams Club or BJs, seems like that would be money certainly well spent to curb loss, rather than losing revenue to harassing people who will choose to shop elsewhere for the future. read more

I really despise this place. However, it still does not receive a one star rating because at least it is clean. When I go into a grocery store, I judge it on 4 things, the produce, the meat section, the cash register situation, and cleanliness. This receives a pass on 1 of the 4. The produce section is, meh. It is really hit or miss, but I have found myself often less than impressed. Even, stuff that should be in season, I have found look drab and sad. The meat section is meh again. Often it just looks unappetizing. And with a place like stop and shop you have no clue where how it was produced. The cash register situation is really what frustrates me. They are constantly understaffed and the check yourself out registers are often not working properly. They hire one staff member to look over 5 self check outs. One time, I was in there and 4 of the 5 were having issues. The one staff member was having issues solving the problem on one of them which held the others up. In the end maybe 15 people could not check out. There really is no "quick" shopping at Stop and Shop. The "Scan It" scanners would help with this issue but they are often not working and many people do not use them. This leaves people scanning and packing their own bags, which REALLY slows things down. I understand that Stop and Shop is probably trying to cut costs with all the competition in the grocery market, but they need to focus on the customer and then they'll make money. read more

Please stay away from this location. I've been coming to this Stop & Shop for years and I have always had an ok experience but the last two times have really upset me & I may be filing a complaint with corporate & possibly the attorney general's office. The store is old and needs some serious remodeling, the shopping carts have gotten a little better but most are in rough shape, there is years of dirt and crud piled up under the refrigerator/freezer section although they have recently installed new freezers & refrigerators you can still see years of dirt near the freezer section. The staff can be hit or miss, usually it's a younger staff which is fine but none of them seem to be to pleased to be there. I get its probably a minimum wage with a fair amount of work, but at least pretend to look happy. Now there latest tactic is to racially profile despite everything going on and in the year 2020. They offer there scan it feature which allows you to bring your own shopping bags and sign in up front with your loyalty account and get a scanner gun to go shopping throughout the store by scanning your items and placing them in the bag so when it's time to check out you just tap complete on your scanner gun, scan a bar code it generates at the register, pay and your on your way. I've done this on and off depending on how big of a grocery trip it is for years & never had a problem until now. On a recent trip I was shopping in the produce section & out of nowhere a random employee walks up to me to make random conversation about apples (I kid you not) while glancing in my shopping bags & then pretends she knows me after I give her a puzzled look. Then I was in the freezer section & was scanning a couple of items and I noticed two employees conveniently make there way over there pretending they on their phones watching me out of the corner of their eye. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and I walked to another section & two minutes later the same employee magically appeared. It's funny when I need help there is never anyone around but when it comes to discrimination there is mysteriously someone there. On the next trip (I did not use the scan it feature) I walk in the store & 20 secs later an employee asks me to come to his register to ring out (the issue with that is I had been in the store all of 20secs & my cart was completely empty). 30 mins later the same employee comes out of nowhere, not manning his register on the other side of the store to tell me to come to his register to ring out while I'm still shopping. After being followed and harassed to ring out I of course did not go to his register and went to self checkout. Then two more employees in the self check out made there way to the other side of me not social distancing in the middle of a global pandemic to keep an eye on me. Then I observed two caucasian customers walk out and they the two males spoke to them with a good evening while a couple of customers of color walked out they didn't say two words to them myself included. I am appalled & this staff needs to reprimanded for this outlandish, inappropriate, racist behavior. Another issue I have is I don't see a diverse staff working here either. I can't believe Stop and Shop condones this prejudice behavior. Stay far away from here. read more

"Heck yes! This location has the hand-held scanners where you can grab bags at the entrance and clock all your purchases as you go along. This rocks cause you can see how much you are spending and you can put stuff back you don't need at the end. When you're done, just scan a barcode, pay the cashier and you're done. I think Stop & Shop is one of the worst markets I have ever shopped in, I only shop there because my husband refuses to drive to Shaw's. We live in Bristol, and Stop & Shop is close, their meats are terrible, I don't understand why they are so bad, fatty and tough! And everything there is so expensive far more than Shaw's and the quality is far below that of Shaw's. The service is not that good either. most of the employees are lazy and rude. I can understand why Stop & Shop doesn't want to pay them more, they are not worth more. I watched one young man in the parking lot gathering shopping carts while using his cell phone, it took him longer to gather up a small amount of carts than it took my husband to go into the store and finish our shopping list and load it into our trunk. We summer on an island. The Bristol Stop and Shop is the nearest large grocery. The quality, price and cleanliness of this store are abysmal. There are only 2 or 3 registered open no matter how many people are waiting in line to check out. We have decided to drive an extra13 minutes to the Fall River Market Basket. The quality and variety of choices are head and shoulders above the Bristol store. Check out is quick with multiple lanes open. We are saving about $45 a week compared to Stop and Shop. read more

I would give them no stars if I could. The customer service I received this morning was ridiculous. They don't have enough cashiers so I take my two bags of grocery to self self check out. Mind you it's still crowded and small. The worker ANN..decides to wait until I'm almost finish and ask me to redo how I ringing my items and says i can't see what your ringing and mind you I've been shopping here for years and they have never questioned how I shop. I asked her does she want to go through my receipt and she keeps referring to putting my items in the bagging area which is very small and I had my own bags. She didn't want to go through my receipt and kept saying it's how the store wants it done. Well I would of bought over $100 worth of groceries shopping got 3 ppl but instead I walked right out . Hands down the most backwards Stop and Shop I have ever shopped at. They do not group groceries together very well at all. I was looking for something and asked an employee where it was and they said they always get questions about where things are because things are not where things would normally be. I'm writing this review on the basis of half-a-dozen visits over the last few years. I don't have a car, and I don't come here because it is too far on a bike. Mostly I shop at Shaw's in Barrington. Stop & Shop renovated the store in late 2011 or early 2012. Before that, their prices were significantly lower than Shaw's. Since then, however, they have raised their prices considerably. In fact, they now seem to be imitating some of Shaw's pricing practices. On the positive side, the store is no longer shabby-looking. Also, the store is huge and has a bigger selection than Shaw's. Judging from my last visit, I estimate that you might save 2% by shopping at Stop & Shop instead of Shaw's, but frankly, that's not a lot. If you want really low prices, you need to go to Price-Rite in Massachusetts (where you'll find low prices but a very limited selection). read more

Moved here from CT recently. I've been to a lot of Stop and Shops in my day but this one takes the cake for being 'most in need of improvement.' Why? *i want to note that I'm writing this so that the store can be improved!! not to be a jerk. This is the only place I shop!! I want to see it get better. Rude manager - wish I could remember his name. I asked him if they carried something I was looking for and he essentially told me to go look for it myself. I mentioned the interaction to a staff member a few minutes later, and said that his manager, was 'not a very friendly person.' He agreed and said the manager was a pr**k. (Actual word he used!) Bathrooms are DISGUSTING - I have posted a photo of the men's bathroom. The smell was nauseating. Need I say more? Self-checkout machines: expect to wait - I've been to ~15-20 Stop & Shop locations, in CT, RI, and MA, but I've never been to one where BOTH the self checkout registers and the staff attending them were so poor. 25% of your items will screw the machine up and require an attendant who, either b/c he/she cannot be found or b/c they are too busy fixing other machines, will take 5-10min to get to you. Why do the machines go on the fritz all the time? I've spoken to other customers about it, and they're just as frustrated! Meat/fish counter: expect to wait (again) - unlike most Stop & Shops, there is no one immediately ready to help you at the meat and fish counters. In my last ten or so visits, 100% of the time there was no one there, and i ended up standing there waiting for someone 5-15min each time. Understaffed? read more

If I could give this ZERO stars I would. Have been in here several times since moving to the area. Staff is always rude. Store is messy. Today one of the staff literally stepped in between me and the shelf of product I was looking at . Instead of asking me if I needed help finding what I was looking for he squeezed in between me and the shelf with is back towards me, stepped on my foot as if I wasn't even there. He was apparently getting ready to add more product. I said 'sir you stepped on my foot. Didn't you see me standing here.' He said I did but thought you were going to move." I was so upset I left without shopping. I then decided to call and speak to a manager. A young man who identified himself as Jimmy the assistant manager came on the phone listened to my concerns and said he would speak to the employee and let the manager know as well. Produce is awful, they are always out of something really basic, and about 99% of the time I have to bag my groceries while watching 5 employees wander around chatting about when they get out and what TV shows they watch. Let me start by saying that nobody forces me to shop here. However, it is the most convenient place for me to shop for groceries. Unfortunately, over the last year or so, this store has gone completely down hill. Quite simply, this store is a dump, an absolute train wreck. It is dirty and messy, including caution tape(inside the store) that seems to now be part of the decor. On a weekly basis, there are basic items not in stock. "Rain checks" have become routine. On several occasions, I have witnessed employees, (younger as well as older) arguing and dropping "F" bombs. Having said all that, I still shop here because, as mentioned, it is the most convenient place to get fairly decent groceries. read more

I love this store - it has everything! The fish is fabulous, meat is butcher grade and deli is awesome. You can buy organic goods and basics in one location. They open early, close late and the staff is friendly. No need to go anywhere else. read more
