my car broke down while pumping gas and I had to wait over an hour for a tow. In the meantime, a very pleasant young man who worked at the fuel station directed traffic to avoid my car, bought me cold water as it was hot, and made sure I was OK He even assisted the tow driver with traffic when leaving. I have been going to Stop and Shop for years. Lately, may weeks in a row, I have been overcharged. I got 2 rib eye steaks advertised for $7.99 each and was charged $12.49 each. I went to customer service and they give me the look, like somehow it's my fault they got the price wrong. "Oh they say, I got the organic one, so that doesn't count." Well, I say, yes it does count, because that is what's advertised in their very own flyer. The clerk pays me the difference, without looking at me. When I point out to her, according to their OWN policy, I should get the item for free. She gives me the look, gives me one for free and the other for half off. Several other times, similar things have happened, where I am charged the wrong price, I ALWAYS have to check my receipt. Pity the person who doesn't check and is charged the wrong price, losing their money...groceries already cost enough. I just want to buy my groceries without all the hassle of checking everything... The guy who seemed like a manger, older guy maybe in his late 50s near the produce section, said he can help but not before I smile for him... I was so SHOCKED! How disgusting!! Not going to show me where a product is until I smile? I don't owe him anything. I am a girl in my early 20s. How absolutely inappropriate!! I hope action is taken against him because that is not ok. Great selection of food/general groceries for shopping, the Instacart service is also pretty fast when you need a quick pick-up. Staff were pretty helpful at self-checkout station as well, when I did regular shopping. Ambiance wise, the bathrooms were actually pretty clean, which I must admit I was impressed by haha. I really like this Stop & Shop, location is also great (the plaza is old, but there's lots to do). read more

I'd give zero stars if I could.. I rarely write reviews only if it's bad like this. I went yesterday to grab deli meat and rolls, and I go to make a sandwich and the rolls have a an entire chunk of it taken out and a hole through the bag. (I grabbed the rolls by the deli) It's bigger than what a mouse could do so it's definitely a rat, I live on the 10th floor of an apartment and there's never been mice or rats here. This is ridiculous, this was right next to the deli so looks like i'm not eating the meats I got from the deli either... Thanks stop and shop for not keeping rodents out of your establishment and you're union so you should know what to do when this problem happens. I like that this store is so close and convenient to me. They have a good selection of products; I especially appreciate the organic produce and the the cart with discounted produce plus they occasionally put out bins with reduced price canned food items. Though I also shop occasionally at other grocery stores in addition to S & S, I appreciate the people who work at that store: a special shout-out to Danny who mans the customer service booth. "Maniac-Jack" How Could He Be Employed A strange situation while I was in this supermarket a few days ago. I couldn't find the fish monger at the back to cut me a piece of cod so I had to go to the beef area where another market employee asked this old man at the back washing dishes with big green dishwashing gloves up to his elbows to come and cut me a piece of fish. As I watched the guy take off his big green gloves he wipes his hands on his white smock belly area and I said to myself, this guy better wash his hands before he touches my fish. As he comes behind the fish counter he asks me what I want. I said to him if you could please wash your hands or use plastic gloves before you touch any fish meat I would appreciate it. Apparently he didn't like my polite request and was immediately negative and rudely said he'll put-on some plastic gloves. After cutting the fish filet in-half because it was a whole side of a fish at least 2 - 3 lbs. size he rings me up for the non-sale price of $11.99 per lbs. instead of the sale price of $9.99 per lbs. So I said what is going on, the sale price is $9.99 a pound and then he said no, that is for the whole filet, you bought half so you pay full price. I said that is ridiculous, I never heard of such a scam like this. He then says I don't set the prices ...but apparently you just did. He told me to go see a manager which of course I did because I'm obviously being railroaded here by a supermarket fish employee for nothing, completely unwarranted. There were 2 other people waiting for their order listening to the whole thing and this other customer was like what the hell is this old man doing here. Even that customer said for me to go see a manager to fix this and that he would himself. So I go and talk to Sean Kelly which was the manager on duty where I told him what just happened, and he was very understanding of this situation, and gave me the normal sale price of $9.99 per pound but the fish weighed a little bit more than 1 pound so it was actually less than $9.99 a pound. So he gave me a better discount than it would have been if the fish guy had just rung it up normally. Sean said that he would talk to "Wacky-Jacky" to find out what was going on back there. I said to Sean that I wasn't rude to him at all (but I'm sure "Jack-Off" would lie and tell him otherwise). I said to Sean, if any employee has a bad day, they can't take it out on customers, its a bad image to the store brand. It was such a ridiculous incident that it was completely unnecessary and uncalled for. There was zero reason for someone to be that rude just because I asked him to wash his hands or use gloves before handling the food, especially in this day-and-age of bacteria and viruses. It makes me to no longer want to shop at that store and just go somewhere else if that supermarket has employees like that who go out of their way to try and rip off customers. jeez-louise. read more

What's not to love about the 779 McGrath Hwy location? The layout of the store makes shopping easy to navigate. When I enter I always stop by the bakery first and that could be my favorite Dept. I know those bakers personally and their talent is unmatched. I noticed they have the perfect size challah bread. Danishes, brownies, cupcakes and the custom made birthday cakes are magnificent. Every holiday treat they've got you covered. Personally I feel much guilt as my cart fills with sugary delights so I do a hair flip and make a hard right turn into produce before ppl start talking. I love the produce Dept too. There's always a sale/spotlight on seasonal fruits and vegetables. The deli has expanded and now has pizza and the hot soups are back too. Nothing really trumps their rotisserie chicken but the hot wings are a close second. At the back of the store there's fresh seafood/meats and they'll cut your requests on the spot. Let's not forget the pharmacy. The pharmacy is managed by Jag and the technicians there are so professional and courteous. I'm not saying I've got a crush on Jag but it's true that when I see him I inevitably say "hit me with your best shot!" I got my booster last Friday along with the regular flu shot and didn't feel anything except maybe butterflies in my stomach. The entire staff is friendly and helpful and store is always clean and organized. read more

I've had so many interactions with rude staff I've started shopping at neighboring stores even though Stop n Shop is right across the street from me. I am a bartender so I understand customer service: almost every single person ringing me up (aside from one sweet, younger lady), or the older, short lady sometimes at self checkout, legitimately does not understand how to be kind to people nor seem to enjoy their job in the slightest. The biggest issue I've had so far? Today I got home and realized the safety seal of a salad dressing I just bought was opened all the way around and literally scotch taped closed again. There is no way I'm eating this, yet I have to go into work very soon and thus will be eating some dry salad before I head in. This is not just "uncool": it's extremely unsafe and makes me wary of buying things that may not even have safety seals. I don't love shopping here because it's expensive, but it's necessary if I want food in my house. They don't have a ton of sales but you can save a little money with the Stop and Shop card and some coupons. The store is organized a little weird so it takes some getting used to. They also just rearranged it yesterday, so now it is even worse. Sometimes they are out of many products too so just be aware that the item you want may be sold out. They have plenty of check out aisles though and even though it gets crowded at certain hours, the cashiers really work hard. All the employees here and very nice and work hard. read more

I like this location much more than the one in Somerville. It seems much bigger, cleaner, and is organized in such a manner that I spend less time wandering around, cursing myself for not being a more efficient shopper. There are also waaay fewer random kids running around screaming down the aisles, seemingly trying to get under any cart wheels in their way... The only downfall to this store, is the check out. The lines are usually long (in the evening) and the doors seem really far away from the registers. Traffic seems to always come to a dead stop. They also have so much parking it's stupid. Also, a stop & shop gas station on the side of the building, which, at 5pm or so is usually PACKED. read more

I would just like to take a second to recognize an employee Tom G. During our check out one evening around 9:15 we had an altercation with a indescribably unpleasant customer behind us. We ran out of line while being checked out to grab one thing from the aisle behind and were back before checkout was complete. The woman berated us and began personally attacking us asking if we were "retarded" and people from Boston don't encourage that behavior. She went on to say she was proud to be a *itch from Boston. How she was proud of her conduct is still beyond me. I don't believe anyone has the right to use derogatory politically incorrect slurs to call anyone. I believe Tom G handled himself more than professionally throughout this interaction apologizing to us for having to deal with her. I know grocery stores like yours pride themselves in equal opportunity work for all individuals of all capabilities and it physically upset me and noticeably Tom as well, she was choosing this language. I believe he should be recognized among your institution for his maturity and professionalism throughout; and we thanked him endlessly the entire time as my boyfriend and I chose not to indulge her hatred and unfounded slurs. This is now my go to for my weekly grocery shopping trips. I live in Melrose near a Shaw's, but this Super Stop and Shop has a MUCH larger selection... AND is ~40% cheaper...AND it's on my way home... AND super convenient to get into and out of off the Fellsway. The aisles were a little confusing at first, but I have a pretty set list I run though each week so after like 3 trips I got the lay of the store pretty good. I've moved around the last few years and seen the gas station / grocery store combo before... but the layout of this one is awkward to me. All the lanes being are one way only? I've never seen that before and definitely skipped ahead in line the first time I got gas here because I didn't understand the setup. read more

I was at the Medford Stop and Shop this afternoon. No paper products at all. Limited meat, produce. Not much they can do about that right now. BUT- carts there are so bad you can't push them. Stop and Shop can't invest in new carts??? Wegmans carts are MUCH BETTER. Then the clerk who bagged my groceries did a HORRIBLE job. A 4 year old could have done better. Fragile food crushed, fresh pineapple tossed in upside down and LEAKED over everything in the bag. I called and spoke with the manager, Chris, and he was nice except when he said the carts are out of their control. Really?? Who controls buying their carts? THEY DO! Come on Stop and Shop DO BETTER!!! If the carts are so bad it's hard to push them, what good are special hours for seniors if they can't push old, broken down carts. TRAIN your baggers! I went to the Stop and Shop store located on Fellsway a few moments ago in efforts to send a Western Union. Upon completing the form at the counter, I noticed an older African-American gentleman with a (visbible disability) standing before me at the customer service desk conducting a transaction with the customer service associate named Alec. Alec was extremely rude to the customer. When the customer asked for a pen, Alec threw the pen on the counter. The customer and I were shocked. After the customer finished his transaction, Alec threw the customer's license on the counter. He was extremely disrespectful. I immediately stepped in and told Alec how he was being disrespectful to the elderly man. This is NOT the way Stop and Shop employees working at the customer service desk should be treating customers. The customer left and appeared to be upset and offended (rightfully so!) Alec did not serve me and the another customer service associate (young lady with red hair) served me instead. Alec continued to service other customers in line who happened to be white and appeared to be much more pleasant to them. As soon as I got home, I called the store and reported him to the store manager, Chris. I explained to him the situation. Not sure if Chris spoke to Alec about his unprofessional behavior but I will never shop there again. Alec's unprofessional behavior was not warranted whatsoever and it made me truly question if he has difficulty or trouble providing customer service to black people. He did not bother to serve me that the other associate assisted me with my transaction instead His actions were extremely disgusting and uncalled for. I don't know if this kid hates his job or hates servicing black people but the bottom lines is that he SHOULD NOT be working there. There's a bit of a love-hate relationship with this Stop and Shop. This location, on the newer side, is far superior to the old digs which is now inhabited by Ocean State Job Lot. For years I have shopped at the grocery store chain, and every time I got my receipt I was teased with gas points. I became quite happy when this location opened, as I could finally put those gas points to use. Plus the gas purchase earns points as well. The unicorn had been found!!!! This S&S is chock full of stuff.....and people. The checkout lines can get a bit long (even the self-checkout) during peak hours, and unfortunately the aisle between the registers and the grocery aisles isn't always wide enough. During busy times, it kind of feels like the parking lot outside all over again. This parking lot can get a bit annoying, particularly when there are reasonably long lines for the gas station. However, if your gas tank is on the passenger side like mine, it does tend to be a bit more convenient. I normally try to park closer to the Ocean State Job Lot as it tends to be less congested in the parking lot and also closer to the beloved gas station. On the plus side, I prefer this seafood counter to the one on McGrath highway. They tend to have more "fresh" options versus the other location. While it's small in size, it does pack a fair amount of variety into it. The natural foods section is also more robust than the McGrath highway location and is better organized. I do wish that this location had an in-store Dunkin' Donuts like the McGrath location, but it's not a dealbreaker. For me, some of the congestion you experience at the store is worth it, as when I do need to fill up the gas tank getting 20 or 30 cents off a gallon is worthwhile. read more

This Stop & Shop has the WORST produce section of any supermarket in the area. Everything I get here is spoiled within a day or 2 (or even on display in the store - gross!). The quality of the produce is consistently disappointing. Not only that, but they always run out of stuff. Good luck finding cilantro or swiss chard. They probably won't have it. And if they do, it will be rotten. I don't even bother with it anymore. I shop here solely because of the gas points and because of the close proximity to my house, but if I can avoid it, I do. This is my go-to grocery shopping location. Good selection, pretty organized, and clean. The store is fairly new, so that helps. I'm a huge fan of those hand-held check out thingies. I can't believe it took me so long to start using them. The downside is that without fail, if you go around 7pm, there are none over near the entrance with the carts, while the display on the other end of the store is completely full. So you have to get your cart, trek to the opposite end of the store to get the scanner, and then start your shopping. It would be great if they could have someone make sure that both sides have available units during the post-work rush. read more

I've been shopping at Stop & Shop since the days it used to be Super Stop and Shop and was located where the Ocean State Job Lot is currently located. I must say, throughout the years, S&S's quality has deteriorated while their prices steadily climb. My disappointment in this chain culminated this past week when I went to this location to pick up some lunchmeats for work. The woman servicing the self checkout aisle was bitching about how annoyed she was that customers were looking for help and was visibly pissed. This made for an extremely unpleasant shopping experience. I thought old ladies were supposed to be nice?? Not crabby and tudy. The woman who came to help thereafter when lady 1 couldn't help was not too friendly either. If this is the route S&S is going, I think I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

I just moved here from Colorado, and this grocery store was very disappointing. It did not have a very nice look inside, seemed a bit dirty and there was not a good selection of fresh produce. The self check out lines are HIGHLY inefficient. They have just converted old regular check outs into self check outs and did not design them properly. They could at least add a switch bar at the end of the belt so you don't have to wait for the person ahead of you to pack their groceries. Additionally, I picked out a bag of clementine's and found out there was a rotten one while checking out. The juice got all over my hand. I ran to grab another bag and the second one I picked out had a rotten clementine as well. read more

This place is pretty well stocked and has just about everything you may want - except for a alcohol - but the way the store is organized is a bit odd. And why do grocery stores insist on putting the fresh food and frozen food on the opposite sides of the store? Is it to make you walk all the way across and tempt you with junk food and toilet paper? They do have a large selection of fresh produce - and so far I haven't seen anything rotten like I frequently do at Star Market. The only thing I really hate about this place is their meat section. It reeks - absolutely reeks of bleach. Which makes me both extremely suspicious and nauseated. I prefer to buy organic chicken and I don't like the only brand they have - which is why I go to Star Market. I hit S&S for all my regular items, and then round out my selection with TJ's and WF once every few weeks. Having lived in Beverly, Amherst, Marlborough, Northborough, and Medford, the layout of a Stop & Shop is important to me because I don't have a lot of time to waste wandering up and down the aisles of a new grocery store trying to find what I need. This Stop & Shop is laid out well, has high ceilings and an almost warehouse feel with exposed steel beams above. It is clean, well-stocked, and easy to shop. My one complaint is that endcaps often are not signed, so I'm not sure if they are on sale or if so, what the sale price is. It also seems things are a bit more expensive - not sure if this is the economy or the location, but I spent $100 on groceries last night and it was just for me! Sheesh. Checkout lines aren't usually a problem, but I do self-checkout anyway, and there's always one available there as well. Company-wide staples RedBox & Citizens are easily accessible. Gas station is RIGHT next door and has good prices, especially with your gas reward points. Parking is never an issue. read more

This is one of three Stop and Shops within about a 2 mile radius of my house and by far my favorite. It is the cleanest with the biggest selection. They also have the added factor of having the Stop& Shop Gas Station RIGHT next to it so it wins HUGE points there. For those that don't know for every $100 you spend at Stop & Shop you earn $0.10 off each gallon of gas, etc. So the more you shop the more you save on gas. I know Stop& Shop can be a little pricey, but I find it balances out. Plus I just like the convenience to my house. They redid this Stop&Shop over the past year and it now has a more flowing layout and is usually pretty well-stocked. The scanner guns are also a HUGE win! That is another reason we don't shop at certain Stop&Shops because they don't have the scanner guns, but this location does. it has truly revolutionized my grocery shopping and makes it SOOO less painful. We went to this store when Blizzard Nemo was approaching and with the scanner gun made it in and out of the store in like 20 minutes while people waited in long lines to go to the other registers. read more

Worst shopping experience ever yesterday. The place was packed, obviously ignoring the 40% capacity rule. No social distancing at all. Then the cashier incorrectly scanned my loyalty card, so I didn't get the $19.89 (yes, I took the time to do the math) off that I was supposed to. By the time I realized this, I was already at the door, and the customer service desk was SWAMPED. Once again, no social distancing enforced. I called the main office, and after being on hold for 45 minutes, was told that I needed to call the store. I did so, and was told a) they're trying to work out a system for capacity (um, do what every other store is doing) and b) they can't do anything for me unless I risk my life and come in to a packed store to get my $$. At least at Star Maeket, even before Covid-19, they offered to send me a gift card when they dropped the ball. Never going back to this store, even if things return to normal. Its a shame, because we were very loyal customers. read more

Enormous, new, clean, bright. This is easily the nicest Stop & Shop I've ever been in. This particular location is relatively new - hence the bright & shiny aspect to it. Parking lot is a little confusing - weird design - but I'm able to get in and out pretty quick. It's beautiful inside - big wide isles with well-lit merchandise. Big produce section. Everything looks good here! The downside? You're in a sketchy part of town so you will come across some, uh, less-desirables when shopping here..... But otherwise it's a great store! read more
