The online ordering/pickup is the worst service at this location. There's been numerous times where they claim a product is out of stock at time of pickup and I'll go into the store to check if the item is in fact out of stock only to find that the item is in stock. What the heck is with that??? It happened today 7/30/25 and the guy who brought the order out blamed it on the person who retrieved the order. Ok fine but how do they not know where the items are in the store? They shop all day for customers up and down the same isles but can't find lemonade and bread??? I think the people shopping for customers do not care about the orders received, and they would rather claim the item is out of stock rather than look for it or ask where it is. This is a convenient service but if I have to pay for it I expect it to be good/quality service along with the convenience. The deli workers are rude and hostile to taking orders. Isn't this the job they voluntarily applied for? What are they expecting exactly? People order from the deli and the workers are doing the job of slicing the meats. That's the job! They seem to be annoyed with the orders, annoyed they have to go to the back and select a new packaged meat, annoyed they have to open the new package, and annoyed the customer asks for a thin sliced meat. They also put the dang sticker for the cold cuts/cheese right on the flimsy package and it rips the package when opening for the first time. The recent ambiance with the new isles reeks of glue and new construction smells. It's really an unpleasant atmosphere with management hiding from customers and zero accountability in the online ordering section. Can I give this location zero stars? read more

Overall the selection & service here are fine, everyone is nice and it is clean. My complaint is that they overdo it with the TSP (toxic cleaning solution, legal for preserving shellfish). I don't like to buy shrimp treated with TSP but did so this weekend cuz I was in a pinch. I figured that rinsing it would clear it away but Nope! I rinsed multiple times and the frothy foam didn't subside (see pic of the 6th rinse). The store manager was kind enough to give me a refund but she said "So this has TSP and isn't good enough for you but it would be fine for someone else" & I replied "No, I don't think anyone wants to eat soap". Anyways it's a fine store overall but be careful of the shellfish. Rinse it thoroughly or avoid it, as I will in the future. read more

Stop & Shop management is doing everything wrong. They now charge 10 cents a bag, supposedly to encourage people to bring their own bags. But sometimes I hadn't planned to shop but pop in anyway, and the only option is to pay for the bags. Instead of the stick, Whole Foods uses the carrot and pays 5 cents when you bring your bag. There are usually just two cashiers open, even at busy times. Market Basket in N. Andover has 19 lanes, with cashiers and baggers. The deli prices are ridiculously high. Market Basket charges about $2 less per pound for Finlandia cheeses. The employees seem unhappy. read more

I am a regular customer at Stop and Shop and soon a non customer. I cannot understand why I can't go into Stop and Shop and get the best price without having to use a stop and shop app or stop and shop card. It's just more fuel to go to Market Basket. read more

Usually only one lane open. Several times the people standing around doing nothing claimed that something was wrong with the cash register. It's difficult to believe that it broke 3 out of the last 4 times I've been there. You would think having a line go a third of the way down the isle would get the manager to react but no. On the good side they have more organic food than most grocery stores. read more

Unless you want to pay triple the price for the items you actually find and never ending customer service issues, go elsewhere. Selection available is a joke. One day I had been behind due to a doctor running late and traffic coming home from MGH at rush hour didn't help. I decided to try Curbside in hopes I make up for lost time. The curbside here is a nightmare. Doesn't clearly tell you where. Guy wanting around the parking lot collecting carts is useless when asking for help. Finally figure it out and the same guy gives a cart and says since you're here you can just bring this to the car! He played stupid when I said I asked him in the parking lot. Told the girl at the cs desk he didn't. Meanwhile you pay for curbside but don't get the service you paid for and an employee who lies and doesn't even care. Lesson learned...just do it yourself and at a different store. read more

The tale of this specific Stop&Shop location is one of the most interesting yet. So, Stop&Shop started out years ago in North Reading in the building further down this road that is currently rented out by Ocean State Job Lot. That building is still owned by the Stop&Shop Supermarket Company. They purposefully moved the store to this location when Shaw's closed up to avoid the risk of competition in the area... if they owned their building and could lease it to whoever they wanted to and rented this one, they'd be the only show for a grocery store. Unless another were to build a brand new building, which seems very unlikely. Good idea, right. Maybe not. This building was not designed to be a Stop&Shop and is just not an enjoyable grocery store. It's an older design inside, and it feels just too big to be a grocery store. General merchandise aisles are too lengthy and just have too much stuff that no one actually needs. Front end has sixteen registers.... only two are ever actually used and a few self checkouts... they don't need sixteen registers. While many Stop&Shop locations are large, this one seems to have an extreme excess of useless space. If you forget one item in an aisle you have to walk a mile to go back and get it. Selection is good overall, but almost too much variety. North Reading is a small town and this store just doesn't fit the need of the residents as well as it could. Hopefully they do a gut job on this place and finally revitalize it once and for all. They should honestly reopen their old store.... the parking lot is on a huge hill here, they don't have an on-site gas station (they actually left the gas station in operation at the old site) and the entire facility doesn't fit the store as well. Quite disappointing overall. Yes, I know everyone needs to go to the supermarket and no supermarket is perfect; however, other Stop&Shop locations fit the needs of their clientele and customer base better and the status of this location is lacking as it could be so much better. Nothing to complain about. It's. A grocery store. Always well stocked and the people are friendly and helpful. Good premade meals. These negative reviews crack me up. Really? You're complaining about the shelves Being stocked during the day time? Perhaps the staff can be advised to avert their eyes from you as well. Good lord. The gilded ghetto strikes again. Prices are better than the one in reading but not as good as market basket. Usually not that crowded. Plenty of cashiers and self checkout as well. After the market basket meltdown I began the task of finding a new store. I never liked market basket but after shopping here 3 times I found myself actually missing market basket. The first time the employees were super nice. They were clearly making an extra effort to steal market share from market basket. The prices were higher but the fish and meats are higher quality. The second time I tried to use their scan it app. Being a geek I was impressed and enjoyed using the app. Until I got to the self check out register. The thing wouldn't work. According to the employees I had been flagged for an audit because it was the first time I was using the app. I was then accused of incorrectly using the app. In total it took 3x as long as it should have to check out and I wanted to use the coupons stored in the app. The third time I was only buying a few items, having purchased most of the items at a competitor. I used the scan it app. Surprise surprise I was tagged for an audit. Again. It took several employees to figure out what to do. Apparently I didn't meet any of the criteria for an audit. The excuse this time is that it was random. Sure it is. Only Stop & Shop corporate knows whether specific customers are targeted to be treated as shoplifters. (And I used to use self checkout almost exclusively at Harris Teeter so don't even think about blaming me). As a rule I don't shop where I'm not wanted. Worst possible shopping experience....always. They have one main service, provide products and get people out. I have yet ( well over 75 times) gone with more than 1 main cashier and 1 twelve and under cashier. Always 2 people standing at at end cap watching on....what's with that? My family has lived in North Reading for 25 years. We frequent all the local establishments, restaurants, etc. Never again, never again this store. We should have learned years ago when Shaws left and they "jacked up" prices. I recall buying a package of Pearl Country Club Hot Dogs, which were $9 on July 3rd and $13 July 4th. Every week they fail to accurately discount promotional products while checking out. The last was yesterday and today, failing to honor $8 in Rebates on $50 worth of probiotics. The manager was unconcerned and we had spent $400 yesterday! We weren't asking for "extra", just what was promised by the ad. Good luck S&S, great business practice you have there. Never again. We go to this store solely for convenience. The produce is mediocre at best, the natural/organic and "ethnic" foods are minimal, and the meat is expensive. Natural and organic meats at Whole Foods are less. I think the staff is undertrained and overworked. Rarely a smiling face, don't know how to load a bag without breaking something (I have taken to either bagging myself or putting things on the belt with that in mind), and almost never a "hello" or "thank you." read more

Probably the only reason we shop here is location but that may change as it's probably one of the worst Stop and Shops in the area. Stopped in on Saturday morning to pick up a few things and I find people stocking the shelves. Is it me or shouldn't this be done overnight when the store is closed? There must have been 3 people in the vicinity of one aisle stocking shelves and you can't get around them. One instance I was trying to get to an item and the girl had this large cart blocking the section where I was trying to get an item from. She just kept looking at me like I was in HER way. She didn't bother to move the cart so that I could get at the items that I wanted. Really? So I guess you don't want me to shop there! Fine, I'll be more than happy to oblige! read more

I go to this store a lot because it's near my house, but it's very expensive. In fact, other than "Whole Wallet" in Andover, I think this is the most expensive grocery store I have ever been in. For big grocery runs I tend to go over to the Market Basket in North Andover. Furthermore, they never have enough people working the registers, so there are always lines. People end up using the self-checkout with a whole carriage full of food and it takes forever because they don't even have someone assisting on the self-checkout with bagging or anything. The people who work in the deli are polite but not friendly. I have spoken to the manager on several occasions and he is very friendly and helpful, but I wish I could say that for more of the employees. On two occasions I have asked for help in the meat department and have been pleasantly surprised by how knowledgable and helpful they were, so that's good I guess. The "gas card" points are a joke. If you spend $400 in a month you will get $.40/gallon discount at their gas station. Given that the maximum you get discounted is 35 gallons, you will save $14. (My car only holds about 16 gallons so my maximum savings is about $7). But since this grocery store is at LEAST 10% more expensive than Market Basket, $400 in groceries represents $40 extra that you paid for food for the privilege of saving $7-$14. Not worth it. This store needs to lower prices and increase service. North Reading desperately needs a decent grocery store! read more

This used to be my local grocery store but after the past few weeks I'm never going here again.. bad dates are easy to find. Deli is dirty! They don't clean or disinfect after each use of the slicers. Produce is low or half rotten. Good luck at this store. Avoid at all costs! read more

The guy who works at the produce department did not know how to help me. I asked him about where are the parsleys, even though, he showed them to me. He told me that there are curly parsleys and the others. I noticed that the others are not parsleys, but cilantro leaves. He did not specify, either I wanted curly or Italian flat leaves. When I thanked him the first time, he did not say a word, but when I thanked him the second time, he did not say a word, but he gave me a phony smile.
