Our local stop and shop is fast moving to the front in the grocery store bait and switch competition. Their latest effort relates to their most recent weekly entry. Special: "CHEAP CHICKEN ALL WEEK!" 8-Piece Dark Meat Fried Chicken! Original or Spicy, Legs, Thighs and Drumsticks, 5.77/each. Sounds great until you get to the store and guess what: nary a package available. When I asked the worker he said it'll be a hour at least before they are ready. He was referring to the Rottisserie chickens. "I'll try to get to the fried chicken after that." To be honest he didn't seem particularly concerned. But he did give it a good shrug so... I will always try and support our local businesses but I do expect a certain amount of reciprocity for my money. Jeff C. read more

Stop & Shop Corporate Mgmt has given up on quality of product and customer service. I have shopped at Stop & Shop for as long as I can remember. A few years ago (before COVID) they started to phase out their "Professional Butchers" in the meat department and that was the start of the slide. COVID, Supply Chain issues and employees with COVID Hangovers are all a thing of the past. However, Stop & Shop still has dirty restrooms that reek of urine from improper cleaning techniques to selling meats that spoil or turn within a day and even strawberries & other produce that has mold on it! Yes, I've even seen the employees smoking in front of the store between the entrance and the redemption center. Yesterday at the Deli Counter there were 5 people behind the counter and only 3 customers. I could understand if they were all busy but they were only working on 1 customer at a time. I ordered Liverwurst. The Deli-guy pulled a bloody slab of roast beef off the slicer that had blood all over it and a pile of scraps and beef dusts all over the place, placed the liverwurst on the slicer and proceeded to cut my order. I was dumbfounded, can you say cross-contamination? The man never cleaned or even wiped down the slicer. My bag was filled with blood and roast particles in it. There was no supervisor or department manager so I went to the acting store manager and showed him the bag. He saw the blood and the chunks of roast beef in my liverwurst and said, "I'm sorry, can I get you a fresh order"? I will drive the extra miles to find a Wegmens, ALDI or even a Market Basket before I go back to Stop & Shop. I can't afford to keep throwing food away only days after I bought it. read more

I am quite surprised with the amount of dissatisfaction with the Pembroke Stop&Shop. I don't think this specific location deserves five stars, per say; however, they don't deserve an average of 1.5! While Stop&Shop dominates Pembroke in terms of groceries, this is the larger of the two locations in town located in a large shopping center right off Route 3, on Route 139 with several other stores like Dollar Tree, Staples, and Kohl's. It's a large store, and surprisingly the first Super Stop&Shop ever opened by the Stop&Shop company (in 1982). It's not a perfect Stop&Shop (very few are), but in general, it's well stocked, spacious and very large. It spans twenty five aisles, with a full deli, prepared foods, seafood, bakery and pharmacy department. Staff were pretty friendly throughout, and management seems mostly on top of logistical things. Mike, one of the assistant managers I found extremely helpful and friendly in recent days. I will say that one thing that the Pembroke location needs to work on considerably is their pricing. Several items in this store did not ring up at checkout the amount that was listed on their sale sign. The assistant manager, aforementioned, was very helpful and efficient in fixing all the issues, but they shouldn't have happened in the first place. This seems to be a trend with the Stop&Shop's in this area. Most price scanners worked, but when I went here, several signs that have to be placed on these scanners per Massachusetts State Law were missing. In general, it's a nice, newly remodeled, clean store, but my suggestions are to watch at checkout to make sure all items ring in at the correct price. 4 stars for the Pembroke Super Stop&Shop. read more

My favorite GO TO Grocery Store Hands down! I have been a loyal Stop & Shop Pembroke customer for over 35 years - and, yes, I did start shopping when I was 10! Why, you ask? 1. Some of the same great people are still working here after all these years and are as warm and welcoming as ever 2. I know where everything is - even though things have changed for the best over the years 3. They continue to innovate - being the first store near us to offer grocery scanning devices, self check out, digital coupons, a robot that ensures the aisles and floors are clean and safe -- and an app; 4. This store is SUPER - meaning they have just about everything - including a gas station and pharmacy on premises. 5. Best Produce (there are always specialists on the floor pulling imperfect specimens) 6. Incredible values on the essentials through "bulk buys," "manager discounts," "every day values," digital coupons, weekly values, fuel points, A+ School Rewards, and insider, customized discounts pushed directly to me. 7. I save about 25% to 30% each week (which is $25 on every $100 or $100+ on $400 spent. Yes, I do spend $400 every once in a while. I have a growing family and lots of extended family and friends who visit often.) Additionally, this store is extremely family friendly. My children have "grown up" shopping with me and learning valuable lessons along the way: Making healthy choices, budgeting (through the self scanning device), helping mom (self check out, running to grab something mom forgot). I like this location because there is a Stop and Shop gas station in the parking lot! I do most of my food shopping at Stoppy because of the gas points! This store also has my bank inside. #bonuspoints! Neat store, not as hectic as the Quincy stores. Ample parking and close to Kohls and Dollar Tree. There is also a Long Horn near by if you get hungry going up and down the aisles! read more

Popped into the Pembroke Stop & Shop for a few forgotten grocery items, and came out nearly empty handed anyway. Not meaning to be offensive in any way, but this is the most white-bread grocery store I've ever been in. If you're needing anything even remotely ethnic, expect they won't stock it, and probably can't even get it. Back in the meat department, I was looking for some meat bones, preferably lamb. The butcher told me all of their lamb is cut off site, so no odds and ends were available. Beef bones, it was. I asked if they had tripe, that was a "no" too. He wasn't even sure it could be ordered in. "Making dog food?" he asked. "No, people food," I explained, delving briefly into Vietnamese cuisine. He did recommend a couple of butchers within a 20 mile radius he thought "might" have the cuts I was looking for. They don't, but I appreciated his suggestions nonetheless. In the produce department, I spent about 5 minutes searching for scallions (green onions) before giving up. In the spices aisle, I couldn't find whole star anise (they had anise seed, which was close, but no cigar). Again, at the checkout, someone mentioned something about the beef bones being "for the pets." I had to chuckle silently to myself and say "Nope, they're for me." I'm definitely not expecting every grocery store employee to have the culinary training of a Michelin chef, but I guess some degree of understanding world foods or open mindedness would really go a long way. I usually like this bakery. I usually order my daughter's birthday cake from here every year. Usually I go in and I order, they write it down, I pick it up the scheduled day but this year was not one of those years. Three years ago I was ordering a cake but the person at the bakery seemed mad that they had even to talk to me and each next detail of the order was taken begrudgingly. I was getting bad vibes but didn't think twice about it. I ordered the cake to be picked up at 11 that morning for a 2 o'clock party later that afternoon. I showed up at 11:30 to pick up the cake when the baker there said they had nothing for me. He went through the file folder and said my order had been filed away incorrectly. I immediately thought back to the grouchy baker who took my order reaffirming my the bad feeling about him. Good thing I showed up before the party because otherwise I would've had a party with no cake. I was none too pleased to say the least and expressed this to the baker there and he assured me "I'll talk to him" and to come back in hour and they'd have the cake ready by then. The baker working there that day apologizing for his coworker was very friendly, pleasant, and assuring so much so that I continued to go to this bakery for years. This year, yesterday matter of factly, I ordered another cake. Guess who's taking my order? The same belligerent guy who messed it up three years ago with the exact same manner. I gave him the benefit of the doubt but I sorely regret doing so. No party this year so we go to the movies and plan to have cake after. Movie's at 12 so I so I ordered tbe cake to be ready at 2. I show up at 2:30 and sure enough, my order was botched again, they have no cake for me. The nice lady working there has no idea about my cake, I point to the grouchy worker who took my order and tell her he took it. She looks for it and tells me it was mis-filed, again. The image I wanted to be printed is impossible because their printer was not operational, perhaps from the black out the day before from the gas fire on Plain st. I don't mind the printer being broken but I wish I knew this when I ordered the day before or at least a phone call for a different arrangement (they asked for my phone number while ordering). So I have to wait while she madr a new cake asap without an image while my family's waiting in the car. What should've been a five minute pickup became a 30 minute wait. I cannot adequately describe the anger I was feeling while I'm waiting for my cake. Seething would be an understatement. The baker making the cake apologizes profusely for her co- worker's mistake while assembling the cake. I tell her "I know it's not you" while she busily and impressively cranks me out a new cake. She says she won't charge me and I feel some relief from this debaucle. She was very personable. Meanwhile, the same grouchy baker is barking at other customers who dare ask where the gluten free muffins are. Unbelievable. The lady baker actually drew an image in frosting close to the image on paper that I uselessly presented to grouchy. When she finally finishes and prints out the label, grouchy says to her "why does it say zero?" on the price. She says, because the inconvenience. He says "gotta charge him *something*". I could not believe the nerve of this grouch(who never apologized once for his error), I laughingly thought to myself "he may be a jerk to customers but at least he's got the bottom line in mind!" I paid for the cake and left. . I don't know if I'll ever go back. Everyone else at this bakery is so wonderful and then this one bad apple really sours it. I don't want this one person to affect my feelings on the bakery as a whole but it's difficult. It really boggles my mind why this guy. read more

I recently had the pleasure of ordering center pieces for a 90th birthday party at the floral dept at this Stop & Shop. Kim the floral manager knew just what I had in mind and the arrangements where just what I had in mind only more beautiful than I expected. They looked perfect on the tables. Worked here for months. The experience was horrible. The main issue is how much they encourage customers not to interact with employees. Most of the time, around 8 PM, there will only be one or 2 registers open. But the self-checkout lanes? Always open. And then there's the deli. A lot of the time, there's barely anyone manning the counter. But it doesn't matter, because you can order without talking to anybody. They don't want or need employees there and only put them on if there's absolutely nowhere else to go. Nobody has to go around for cleanup duty unless the robot says so. The thing will stay put until the gum wrapper or speck of dust it's detecting gets picked up. Meanwhile, a spill could happen 3 aisles over and it wouldn't get picked up because the robot is stuck on this tiny piece of plastic. It's an awful system that can't replace people. The parking lot is poorly designed. No designated area for employees to park, randomly placed manhole covers that don't lead to anything, signs that are hanging by a thread (and in some cases, like the maternity parking space, of which there only is one, upside down), very tightly designed making it near impossible to back out if there's a large vehicle on the other side - the worst part is that a MAIN ROAD separates the parking lot and the store, meaning that if you're getting carriages, you have to sit there and wait for traffic to pass by. The other employees are rude and don't care about what they're doing. Putting wet things in bags with paper things, putting heavy items on top of fruit, forgetting or not noticing if the customer has reusable bags. It's probably why they went on strike right after I left. The technology in use is awful. The self-checkout makes no sense (instead of going by weight, the item has to go through a second scanner), the manual checkout computers are dirty and have resistive/unresponsive touch screens, the computers upstairs are years out of date. In fact, everything is dirty or broken or not working. The entire store is broken. Do not support this company until it decides to treat itself, its workers, and its ethic. read more

I love that this Stop and Shop always has really fresh produce and a great selection of bakery items. While most have the same products, the bakery items at this store are always very fresh. Really fast deli and they are great at recommending brands when you aren't sure what you want. The only reason I'm marking this at 3 stars is because there are some younger people who work at this location that need some help in the area of professional presence. They often seem more interested in chatting than helping. The last visit, they did not stop talking and I felt as though I was bothering them when I gave them my store card. They did not tell me my total and did not stop chatting until I finally said "Thank You" to them and left. As a manager in customer service, I take it really seriously and even a smile and a "Have a nice day" can make all the difference. read more

2 people working the deli on a Sunday is ridiculous!! Estimated wait time of 19 minutes?? Why not drive to Wisconsin for cheese?? Better yet, why not schedule appropriately? The checkout lines are undermanned 90% of the time I shop there. I beleave that the do this to encourage the use of self checkout. I want a real paid person to deal with. It is too bad that Hannafords has been purchased by them. Hannafords always has check out lines that are manages to assure customers have the shortest wait possible. read more

I never really had issues with this supermarket until recently . This past Monday October 11 I got a pound of stop and shop salami from the deli .. Got home and realized the meat was brown .. Went back the next day to return it and get Boars Head salami instead .. When they handed it to me I opened it up and realized that was brown too .. Not good. read more

All and all this is a pretty good store but I do most of my shopping at Market basket. All I shop with Stop and Shop is for their specials because of their pricing system . In too many cases the difference is to great to buy from Stop and Shop. In one case, they sell a name brand item they charge $12.99 for. I can buy it from all their competitors for $5.99 This difference alone covers my gas to go to Plymouth. I believe Market Basket is going to open a store in the Hanover mall which will be a do or die decision for Stop and Shop if they are going to keep their Pembroke store open. This has got to be one of the biggest supemarket in the area, and no reviews? We'll change that! Big selection, decent prices, plenty of parking. The store is clean and well organized, there is always someone there to help you. What else can you say about this store? Other than, I wish prices were a little more consistent from store to store. A big plus is their Gas points program where you earn points for for certain items and redeem for a discount at their gas station conviniently located in their parking lot. read more

Very disappointed in stop & shop. Went out of my way to shop here and use my gas rewards. Only one of six pumps were available which caused a line at that pump. Wasn't able to wait & now gas rewards will expire. Contacted stop& shop. They apologized & said pumps are now working but didn't address the expired points. Have been a regular customer for years. Not any more. Not worth the hassle. read more

This whole chain as really gone down in the past few years. Employees are not friendly, lines are long since they don't staff the registers well, deli is very limited and kids are on their phones a lot and want to rush you along and I have walked out more than once due to lack of product. read more
