This Stop and Shop had everything I was looking for and mist my items were on sale. You do have to sign up with your phone number for certain sale items. This is a good location off 95 both North and South easy on and off access. They also have a Citizens bank for your banking convenience. The sale items were many especially for a 4th of July. Stop & Shop was one of my favorite supermarkets in New York so when I moved to Providence, I was very excited to find a Stop & Shop location less than 10 minutes from where I was living. The aisles at Stop & Shop is very organized and you'll be able to find what you are looking for. There are fresh produce, dairy, canned goods, deli, baked goods, hot foods like wings, international aisle, and so much more. This location also has a floral section with a variety of flowers & bouquets. Stop & Shop has plenty of discounts and a great place to shop for what you need. The Stop & Shop app is also very useful. You can view the weekly ad of savings and clip coupons. There are plenty of parking spots available. read more

This is the closest Stop & Shop from my condo downtown. It's easy to get to since it is right off the highway. It's a large grocery store. It pays to check out their weekly flyer and/or online specials on their APP. You can save lots of money that way. Yesterday, I went to get some yummy chocolate chip cookies and they were perfect...moist and delicious. On a good day, you can get some good deals with their BOGO or digital coupons. If you belong to their rewards programs, the more you shop, the more savings you can get at future store purchases or gasoline. The corporate headquarters are in Quincy, Massachusetts and their grocery products focus on deli, bakery, produce, snacks, pharmacy, frozen foods, and floral. read more

The bakery here has to be the WORST!!!!!!!!!!!! Bakery ever!!!! Went to buy a cake for my boss and also bought two packs of donuts that they make, one chocolate and one glazed. Omg!! Terrible parking, as everyone else has noted. There are strange ways in, including a dangerous left turn from Branch Ave before the light at West River and a quick right turn from the main entry path that both regularly cause near miss accidents. The store isn't the cleanest, but given how busy it always is here maybe that can be expected. The fish counter often smells a bit off too, so I'd maybe suggest buying pre-packaged. There's Kosher meat available, albeit inconsistent amounts and selections, but never low fat cuts of ground beef. The Passover aisle is the best in the state, though. Been coming here over a decade because I live so close. No side walks entrances which forces pedestrians to walk in the street through cars, bike rack against the wall which makes it impossible to park bicycles - unless you drive, they don't care about you. Much of the stuff here you can get from nearby Walmart, Price Rite, and even whole foods, at considerably lower prices. Annoying cleaning detection robot, annoying self checkout which weighs things and often makes mistakes, sale marked items are often not scanned correctly during checkout, and many items, including produce, are put out past expiration date. They openly advertise as paying workers minimum wage, constant protests because of it. I've sent in several emails about these issues and have never gotten a response back. read more

This is a super legit Stop and Shop. Variety alone gets them an easy four stars. I found not just typical staples, but flowers, Morningstar Farms veggie alternatives (which I love despite being a major carnivore...), and SO MUCH MORE. They have pretty much everything and are jacks-of-most-trades. The bakery is fantastic and the produce is really good as well. The only issue is that the seafood and meat didn't look great, but some of it is fine, it just depends. Stop and Shop is slowly winning my Midwestern heart with their neverending slew of coupons, coupons, COUPONS. They pretty much shake you by your shoulders and yell at you to save money...well almost! read more

As far as super markets this one defiantly deserves 4 stars. The store is always very clean, staff is friendly, and the produce is always fresh. They have a full service Citizens Bank, which is always packed in the evening. The check out lines move fast even when it's busy and there are always people to help bag. The other thing I enjoy at this stop and shop the health food section and there private label products. Only thing for me is if you are looking for an excellent piece of meat or seafood I would probably go somewhere else. Around May 2021, saw a really nice staff member (believe he may have been management), white guy, baldish saved head, clean cut - go out of his way to accomidate the need of me (loyal customer), to assist in some distressed situation involving a women who needed all kind of assistance who was broken down off premise and not correlating in many capacity as a customer (she was disoriented and reluctant to ask foe money first pass through of questions, she was feeling likely very "small" in the situation and was not a professional "taker" in the dynchotomy of life ..nonetheless, this store employee was able to influence support and resolve which alleviated and made remedy to this women's needs. He did so without showing the disruption to service it may have produced and just hope the guy receives a degree of attention for being nice. read more

The bags alone make me actively avoid shopping here. They give you flimsy single-ply paper bags with no handles that rip no matter how little you try to pack into them. Today I stopped here against my own better judgement, and while unpacking my car one of the bags' bottoms fell out and four jars of spaghetti sauce ended up shattered all over my parking lot. read more

You know, this place on Branch Ave at River Street really bugged me the first few times I went there, so I switched to East Side Market. But after having to go to SNS anyway, I found a way to do it that didn't make me crazy. The craziness typically resulted from the store being packed, the check out lines being too long, and the service being poor. What changed is my approach. Breathe deeply before going in and assume an attitude of patience. Smile at everyone. Use ear buds and listen to a podcast. take your own bags. Continue to be patient in lines and chat up the clerks. Somehow, being a better human made me better able to handle more of them. Oh, the other thing that works is going as soon as they open in the morning. There's no one there at that time and the clerks aren't tired. At least the store is clean, the staff is helpful, and it's conveniently located. read more

For a Stop & Shop, this place is really good. The produce is fresh and well displayed, the meat counter is wonderful and the international foods aisle keeps me coming back time and time again. Their Latin foods selection alone is fabulous, and I load up on the Goya canned goods like I'm going into a bomb shelter. While the crowds can get out of control with the crazy-scaries found in this part of town, I do find the trip to this S&S is always well worth it. The carry the full line of Nature's Promise organic goods, which are not to be missed. The prices are fantastic - noticeably lower than other markets in the area for the same thing. Nice. read more

I feel conflicted about grocery stores in Rhode Island. I've never quite found one I've fallen in love with. Let's start with the positive. I do enjoy how helpful everyone is at this Stop and Shop. The cashiers are pretty friendly, even when it's busy. Also, I dig the "natural" food section- this place makes my shopping infinitely easier. Organization aside from that, on the other hand, makes little to absolutely zero sense. Even though I go to this grocery store all the time, I constantly forget where things are because it isn't intuitive. I think others are in the same boat. This leads to zombified adults confusedly pushing carts around the store at five o'clock every Monday at a rate of exactly one mile per hour, sometimes knocking over entire rows of Cap'n Crunch. Also, prices are a little steep if things aren't on sale, particularly on items like meat and cheese. I love cheese. Taking off a star for y'all making it harder to get my fix. Finally, they absolutely need more cashiers here. There are at least ten full-service lanes but I've only ever seen up to five in use. We all have patience, but the experience would be so much less stressful if I knew I didn't have to wait five to fifteen minutes to get checked out. Expediency and better organization will make this the grocery store I've been searching for. read more

The have a huge selection of items and the prices are better than expected. Decided to get a Stop & Shop card for discounts and will definitely be back again. Maybe it's because every single time I go there, not only do I almost get hit in the parking lot, but usually there's already at least one or two accidents in the parking lot. Maybe it's because I do my grocery shopping on the weekends, so it's absolutely slammed. But I always walk out of this place absolutely miserable. Yes, they do have a great selection of produce, and everything I look for is always there. The store is neat and clean, even if it's jam packed. It's about a 50/50 shot if the cashier is friendly or just ignores me as they ring up my groceries. A majority of the time, there's no one to help bag the groceries- which is understandable since it's so busy. But, I'll keep going; convenience trumps the annoyances in grocery shopping. Perfect location to stop at on the way home from the Wintertime Farmer's Market, as I don't regularly shop at Whole Foods. I'm a fan of the Nature's Promise organic line from S&S -- and the new gas discounts at Shell stations does bring me in. I can easily find all my staples -- especially Rhody Fresh milk and local eggs -- which for me is certainly a pro. I also find this location to be clean and tidy. It is always easy to find an Associate if I am having trouble finding what I am looking for. I get lucky and find things I use regularly on sale all the time. :) I go often and I'll keep going often. read more

It's a supermarket. It's right off the highway. It's open 24 hours. It's got redbox. I get to rack up points for discounts on gas. All sounds good to me. I don't do my shopping at this particular Stop & Shop all that often anymore - when I lived over on the East Side, it was my favorite food shopping destination, however; when I'm out and about running errands and I happen to be in the radius of this S&S on W. River, then I'll most certainly run in. My only gripe... this place is packed. Like ALL THE TIME packed. I've been in there at 9 a.m. and 12 a.m. and there are always people milling about. Needless to say, avoid this place like the plague before an upcoming holiday or big sports game. The appearance of the store is typical of S&S. The produce and meats are fresh and I really enjoy the fact that this is one of the only Stop & Shop stores that still have a seafood department; it may be small... but it's better than nothing! read more

Not one of the nicer S&S, but it's convenience to my house makes it a must on most occasions. I don't recommend going on the first of the months or in the couple of days after as lines are long and traffic jams tend to occur in both the parking lot and in the aisles. I can usually maneuver my way through the aisles easily on the other days of the month and they tend of have decent sales on items that I want and need. Produce tends to be fresh but I would check expiration dates on items just to ensure you don't run in to the issue of buying expired items (I've had this happen with yogurt in the past). I would also beware sketchy people trying to solicit business in the parking lot (I had this happen recently with guys trying to tell me I had a dent on my car that didn't exist and asking me if i needed them to fix this for me. They were also seen walking up to people in the parking lot when we were leaving.). Getting in and out of this lot on to Branch can also be crazy during peak hours just because of the high traffic area. This wouldn't be my go-to store if I didn't live so close but sometimes I don't have much of an option. read more

Y'all need to get some systems in place for when a fire alarm is going off in the building. There was zero direction on behalf of the employees to the customers on whether or not the store needs to be evacuated, or whether the store was truly in danger. An announcement came on about two minutes into the alarm going off, with no one informing anyone on what to do before then. Employees were still working, and customers still shopping. The announcement should be made immediately and employees should be trained on how to handle a situation like this going forward and where the evacuation point is. read more

So, I get teased for my weekly jaunts to this S and S, but I'm super loyal to my Branch Ave darling. So, it's not in the best area of town. BUT, that's probably why the prices are as low and fair as they are. It's nice to leave a grocery store with your paycheck still intact. Digressions aside, it's clean and well organized, despite the often-chaotic nature of the parking lot. There's a florist, a good organic food selection, and an excellent selection overall. As its a S and S, there is really very little you can't get. I'm also pretty partial to the foreign food section--their Caribbean selection is pretty impressive--I've found stuff that I normally need to chase down in small, hole-in-the-wall shops. read more

This place is OK. It grows on you after a while. Prices are reasonable and selection is OK. There's some neat stuff here as the surrounding neighborhoods are pretty diverse. I've never had to return anything, which is pretty good. Just a few negatives - - They need to chase away the skeeves begging for money outside the doors. - The parking lot is pretty bad. Produce is usually fresh but the seafood section always smells, leading me to question the freshness of the product. The smell is so strong! I have to agree with the previous writer--for a Stop and Shop, it's really good. They are usually very friendly and helpful if you have questions/can't find something. I also find this location to be much cleaner than others. Their selection is also better--the one stop shopping is definitely a plus. As far as customer service goes, I noticed they stopped stocking one of my favs (I hadn't seen it in a month or so). I asked a manager about it, he confirmed that they had discontinued it, but would bring it back. I wasn't hopeful, to be honest. I guess I was wrong though--they had it the following week! read more

This is a decent place to get basic Stop & Shop stuff, however, if you're looking for speciality items that you know exist only at certain stores-- for example, a certain brand of yogurt, like Libertè-- they might have it, or they might make you search far and wide throughout the store, asking employees to look for you, just to find out that it's not in stock (aka they don't and never will have the item you're looking for). The only reason I feel confident enough to put this in writing is because I've experienced this many times over the past several years living in Providence, RI. If you're just searching for standard stuff, it's a fine place to shop. Average stop and shop here with the usual limited deals. The service is average except the fish counter which was poor. The worker said "are you serious?" And other things when I asked him to simply slice my salmon order in half. He needs better manners or get fired. Otherwise, the workers are sometimes friendly and helpful. The deals are okay but only a few cents cheaper. Sadly, this is the only big chain supermarket near us. I'd come back only because of that. read more

I went there to buy a dozen littleneck clams that were on sale. My first mistake(spoken as a native Rhode Islander who used to do my own clamming when I was younger) is I was in a chain super market trying to buy fresh shellfish....think about that folks when you need seafood. I had a weak moment when I thought I would try to get some littlenecks and make a clam sauce with them. The clams in the case looked awful...dry and opened(not good) so I asked the guy if he had fresher ones in the back and he went and got a case. Well, he opens it and then starts bitchin to himself under his breath them takes a few littlenecks out and tosses them in the trash....oops! REDLIGHT.....I tell him never mind and move on to get a few other items I needed in the store. I wanted to ask him what the date was on the clams(when they were harvested) but didn't want to start some bru-ha-ha in the store and decided to just skip their clams. I once asked that at another supermarket and the worker got nasty with me over such a request! So, be careful buying shellfish in supermarkets. God only knows where and when they came from and how long they have run thru the S&S warehouse-shipping to store process. That's just my experience with seafood. Package goods on the shelf is one thing but live items like clams be careful. A good local fish market is always a better choice..... read more
