Price Rite is one of our favorite grocery stores in Providence. They have a lot of ethic items that are hard to find in other places and/or at a very attractive price. They open at 7am every day and that allows for the morning people to shop with almost no crowds. I usually get my chayote squash, pineapples, ginger, fresh fruit and other produce here. i am always so amazed at my finds here and happy leaving with a low bill everytime. the staff at the register are helpful when i am looking for specifics and need assistance checking out at self check out. they keep the store pretty stocked even on busy days. i am also appreciative of their latest addition of middle eastern items and the sign in arabic advertising the pilot. middle eastern olives, wild cucumbers, oil, fava beans, rose water, jallab, like what a stock! also there's pita bread by the hot food section. these are high quality ingredients that i wrote home to my parents about, excitedly showing them the prices and location in providence. thank you! read more

My closest friend/family bought Doritos and wanted to enjoy them. After eating a couple a chips, we happen to see a bite whole at the corner of the bag and the chips tasted very stale. Gems, bacteria can enter in food products. I have watched many documentaries. So I know. Please make sure to clean sweep the department so that the customers do not attempt any disease from infested rats. This is supposed to be a clean environment. Do not let this happen again. I really like the cleanliness and organization of the store and the employees were very helpful and didn't like brush you off and stuff. Also this Price Rite had a full service deli and seafood department I come from Massachusetts if we don't have that up here anymore in our price rite so I missed that and I was so glad to see it in this one. We got several things that were good price as well as a few things for Thanksgiving there was a couple things we needed but they didn't have it but that's to be expected to Thanksgiving week. Not everyone is gonna have what you r looking for. Will definitely go back to this price right again if I'm in the area for anything to do. read more

As A Vegan I love this place due to the amazing prices on produce. They have a wide range of fruit and veggies. Most times even exotic fruits which I always appreciate. However I noticed lately that the produce has been not the best. I had to have an employee take the moldy Ugli Fruit off the floor because I was so excited for them to find them all mushy and Moldy. The melon I got from there the next day at home was completely mushy and the skin ripped naturally. So this time around I wasted money. The times before I have been happy. I do love the location of this place. Living close to the city it's easy to get to. I absolutely loathe the fact that as a vegan or a vegetarian you can't shop for anything but fruits and veggies and the bare bareeeee minimum snacks. You should research that a lot of people are going plant based and having options there for coconut milk, coconut creamer, non dairy yogurt, butter and cream cheese. You would sell it all and they have a longer shelf life than all your milk products. I'm not the only vegan who shops here. If this stuff was accessible I wouldn't have to go to Whole Foods after to finish my shopping. It would be nice to shop at one place. I love the selection of imported products. So many different options of canned tomatoes alone, this italian girl even gets a little overwhelmed. Nothing can beat the selection of different products at the price points they are here. There is always hummus for 99 cents, chobani greek yogurt for a dollar, more UTZ snacks that I ever thought could exist. Produce has always been fresh, though sometimes they are lacking something essential like lemons or limes. Why can I not give this place 4/5 stars? Its mobbed. ALL THE TIME. Like, been in at 8pm and there have been lines, been in during the day lines, been in on the weekends, lines. Also, well the clientele doesn't always make it a pleasant shopping experience. Pretty standard PriceRite. I liked this store better than the one in Warwick. Just seemed like more of a regular grocery store with a bigger produce area and a bakery/deli area. I went on a Saturday. Don't go on the weekends. It is packed and everyone seems to be shopping for the next 6 months. Sketch area but it is near one of my fav Mexican places so I was nearby. You can definitely get some good deals but I find the produce is of better quality at the Aldi near my house. The strawberries were rotting with many of them very moldy, ick. Rotting plum tomatoes. Blueberries were cheap but I was afraid to try them since it is hard to tell how good they are at first glance. So quality control is not a concern. The selection is greater here though. The meat was surprisingly ok looking but I will stick with Daves most of the time for that. As usual, bag your own groceries and bring your own bags. You will not find a lower price for groceries. Will not. You will also find ALL your kitchen staples here. I would've said that you wouldn't be able to find some of your "shi-shi la la" type of stuff here, but last week I saw that they were selling Chobani Greek yogurt there for 99 cents. This place just never stops surprising me. Obviously the produce here isn't local nor is it organic, but it is a cheap source of vegetables and fruits that is marketed towards the non-Whole Foods crowd who otherwise would get their fruit from a McDonald's Apple Pie. The selection is diverse enough. They have watercress, arugala, chard, napa cabbage, radishes, taro root, plantains, ginger root, tomatillos, pomegranates, etc. That's a pretty diverse sampling right there. A bag of quinoa that goes for 5$ at Whole Foods, sets you back only 2$ here. Quinoa was a grain of a native people before it became a health food. Realize these things, people. They have a seafood case in back where the lobsters are consistently less than 7$/lb. A bag of mussels goes for $3. This is where the Portuguese go for their salted bacalao. Now YOU do as well. Cereal is cheap, bread is cheap. Ready made pizza dough's available. They even have two aisles for specialty ethnic goods from the Latin and Italian food communities. Lots of specialty pastas, all calibers of linguni/spaghetti/percatelli/gemelli, etc. Bring your own bags. This was a policy before it was cool to be eco-friendly and bring your own bags. PriceRite just opened up 2 weeks ago in the building that was abandoned by Shaws last year. I was horrified when Shaws decided to move, so when I found out another grocery store was going in its place, I was definitely excited. Even more exciting is that there is still a RedBox in the store - take that Blockbuster. My first trip to PriceRite was definitely an adventure. PriceRite caters to a hispanic and large family market. You will not find all of the brands that you are used to finding in a Stop n Shop or a Shaws, but you will find a huge sign noting Tortillas, and hard to find fruit such as Plantains. When I went to order sliced turkey from the deli counter, the woman who waited on me didn't understand the amount I wanted. She put a lot more on the scale than I wanted, so I said, "no, no, less please". She proceeded to get more to put on the scale. Luckily the woman next to me helped me out with some spanish. So, I have decided that this will be a great way to relearn all that spanish I have forgotten since high school. The produce section is pretty vast and prices are cheap cheap cheap. That is exciting. While the things I got where not stellar in quality, I will definitely be doing the majority of my produce shopping at this store, because the quality of that is pretty good. Word of warning: All three times I have been there there has been a police cruiser sitting outside with its lights on. This makes me a little wary, but for the prices I will deal. A second warning: they charge 10 cents per bag. The bags are durable with the idea that you will reuse them. While this is a pain when you forget your bag, I like the idea of trying to get people to reuse and recycle. read more

Yes, I shop at the Price Rite. Why? Because I know fresh meat and produce when I see it... and when I don't see it, I don't buy it. The choices at the Price Rite are limited. They are a grocery depot. At the same time, it's amazing that I can buy as many things as I do for so little money. They say you will cut your grocery bill in half, and that's not just a marketing slogan. My boyfriend's mother buys the tins of Portuguese olive oil I get for $5.99 at the Price Rite for twice that much in Maine (it was her olive oil of choice long before my boyfriend and I moved down here). There are many gems I've found like that. Their deli, although slow, is well worth the wait. There are many known brand choices that are well below normal grocery prices. The greens I can get in the produce department are perfect to feed to my rabbits, because they are cheap and I don't need them to be flawless. Checking out is a challenge on the first of the month and at certain times of certain days. You have to buy (or bring) your own bags and then bag your own groceries. These are all things I've come to accept. Definitely no big deal. Because it's just my boyfriend, myself, and our bunnies, and I buy whole foods for the most part, I spend an average of $100 a week on groceries. I get what I can at the Price Rite, and if something isn't up to snuff or isn't there, I go elsewhere. It has definitely been an excellent resource. read more

This PriceRite is so much better than the one in Pawtucket! Usually I have to alternate between shopping at PriceRite and shopping at higher-end grocery stores, because there are some ingredients you just won't be able to find in a budget context. But this PriceRite has a huge selection! I even found capers here the other day! The produce isn't always the best quality, but as long as you know how to tell if something is ripe, you should be able to find some fresh fruits and vegetables. And you absolutely cannot beat the prices! For example: $0.99 for a pint of cherry tomatoes, $3.99 for a pound of fresh mozzarella, $0.99 for a dozen eggs, $0.59ea for mangoes, $0.25ea for limes, $2.88 for Talenti gelato, etc. It kills me to shop at other grocery stores now that I know how low the prices are here! Both PriceRites have a huge selection of Goya products, seasonings, canned goods, and frozen foods. But this Price Rite has a much wider variety of cheese, yogurt, and snacks. They even have a bakery! Everyone is complaining about the lines and crowds, but it wasn't very busy at all when I was here in the middle of the day on a weekday. Maybe it's busy by Providence standards, but I've experienced much worse! This is a very no-frills place, so be prepared to bag your own groceries and read the price labels carefully. Obviously, they sell a lot of processed food, but they do offer some organic/natural items as well. PriceRite has been saving my life when it comes to stretching my dollar! read more

I was a bit worried when I walked in and saw 2 police officers at the front door and only one way in/out of the place. A plus was their fruits/veggies section, which was well stocked and a good variety. It felt kind of like a bulk store with very few name brands, but they did have some good prices, if you were willing to go for the off-brands. It's close to Eagle Square (VA), so it was convenient, but don't know if I'd go back there, unless I was at that part of the VA again. read more

Okay so if you are not too picky about name brands and want to save a ton of money on grocery shopping you need to quit shopping at what ever grocery store you are shopping at now and start shopping at price rite!!! They have a ton of stuff produce, deli meats, seafood, meats and everything else any other grocery store would have. They do have name brands here, but there is less variety compared to a regular grocery store and everything is such a great price!!!! Fare warning there is can sometimes be an interesting crowd of people, and try to avoid shopping there the first of each month by all means! But if you think you can hang, it's the absolute best place to get: Limes Parmesan, Pecorino Romano and Asiago cheese (grated) Paper towels Sparkling water Olive oil Be prepared for the longest checkout line known to man. I have a few grocery stores that I shop at, each one catering to a different aspect of things I need at a grocery store. Price Rite is where I come for produce, beans, rice etc. They have the CHEAPEST produce in RI as far as I can tell. And the quality is good. While I'm there I always pick up some odds and ends and I have never spent more than $40 there, and i bought 4 or 5 bags worth of stuff. It is SOOOO cheap. They do not have the big names that most of us are used to in stop and shop, whole foods, so on, but I think generic is just as good, or at least its worth a shot for $.30 isn't it? And to top it off, the employees are always very friendly and talkative. By the way. B.Y.O.B : Bring Your Own Bags! They charge extra for them, and everyone should be using their own bags when they go shopping anyway! This is 2009! read more

I love this place because the produce, meats, and household items sections are great and everything on your list can be bought for a very reasonable price (between $3-$6). The aisles are a little disorganized and it takes about two or three passes through to really get a hang of where certain items might be. The full set-up of the store can seem a little crowded at times and definitely don't go there on a crowded day because you will feel terribly claustrophobic. Otherwise, it's a great supermarket for the basic groceries: meat, milk, bread, things like that. Their dairy selection is lacking but you'll be so happy getting most everything on your grocery list for less than $50, you won't mind going "dairy-lite" for a week. read more

The longer I live in providence, the more of my shopping I do here. Such am amazing and cheap produce department, as large as stop and shop but more geared toward Latin American and Caribbean produce, though all of the basic stuff is there plus a few surprises. I still go to other grocery stores for decent coffee, natural style peanut butter, and cheese- price rite has some more expensive Italian and Portuguese cheese that looks pretty good, but for something like cheddar, usually the only thing available is their nasty house brand (lake something or other, I think). Asian food is also a little thin on the ground, tho they do have house brand soy sauce, and tofu, udon noodles and bok choy. I don't eat a ton of meat but what I've had has been just okay. Ditto for the frozen seafood-cheap and sufficient but it's not going to blow you away. They do have fresh seafood and a lobster tank but I haven't tried anything there. There are definitely other things I can't buy here but they're mostly snack type things and I'm trying to cut those out of my diet anyway! This is a fantastic place to get a cart full of fresh veggies and other staples--for me that means oatmeal, milk, eggs, Greek yogurt (name brand big container under $4), frozen berries (a bag of blue berries under $2), beans, brown rice. Me and my bf will spend $50 here for a weeks worth of food for the two of us, and it will be mostly fresh produce. Expect to wait a long time in line! Try not to come within the first few days of the month. read more

My most recent visit here was fueled by an intense need to make Julia Child's Beef Bourguignon for dinner THAT NIGHT. I live in Federal Hill and didn't have a car that day so it was the only place I could walk. They had everything I needed, which was great. I bought 2 bags and even though I loaded them up good, they're very sturdy and made the trek back home without incident. I'd say the best and most consistent part of this store is the produce: large selection, good quality, and some organic offerings. All very nicely priced. The rest of the store is a bit haphazard. A little disorganized, items and brands aren't consistently available, and some of the quality isn't that great. Overall though, it's a solid spot that has a good selection of Latin food, especially. Can someone tell me where you can get produce, meat and brand name stuff cheaper than Price Rite? No? That would explain why this place is so popular and one of my favorite places to shop. Add a deli and bakery and we're all set. What's even more fun is that what they sell changes every week based on what can be sold for a good price. I've landed some great stuff like Nutella and Gelato here. Of course there are some times when the place is avoidable, but overall its hard to find something better. Its always funny to see people complain about the "other type" of people, when they're there for the same reason as the "others." Also hilarious is seeing people think this is some warzone. I love to do my grocery here, but I do really concern about the quality of the boneless and skinless chicken breast, Few occasion I bought their chicken breast and very disappointed because it contained a lot of water and when you cook it the texture became so rubbery. You always hear about "urban food desserts" and lack of fresh produce in city neighborhoods, so it was pleasantly surprising to walk in and see this huge produce department with lots of fresh fruits and veggies. Sure, not organic, but that's not why you go to price rite...you go for the low prices and convenient location! Still, they were fresh and in good condition, unlike the near rotten stuff you see at Wal-Mart. The grocery selection was much less than you'd find at a larger supermarket, but they had all the basics. Staff was friendly, smiling and helpful, unlike the grouchy ladies at shaw's. Indigent notice any odd acting security guards when I was there. Finally, as a Jersey girl stuck in New England,I love the fact that it's owned by Shop Rite. I did take off 1 star for it's very small organic section and the poor selection of healthy options. I guess this kinda forces me to buy more fruits and veggies and thoroughly wash them before eating. I don't go there expecting to get everything I need, but I do stock up on avocados, limes, plantains, and goya products. It saves me some serious cash. I'll never get veggies from this place, other than the prebagged salad and the bananas. Unless I am planning to eat it that very same day. This is not the spot for buying produce for the week, but it's pretty good for a daily stop. The food just goes bad within days which is no good for me. It is too ripe. HOWEVER, this place makes the BEST BAGELS I've ever had. I'm not a rhode islander, so I'm used to having a soft, chewy bagel and that is what they have here at price rite.oh yummmmmmmmy. Way better than any place out here, including the bakeries. And only .69! Also, I don't buy the canned tomatos anymore either...without getting into too many details, let me just say this:stay away from the canned tomatos, the price rite brand "cream of" soups, and the chicken unless it looks unslimy. Everything else at this place is great. I have purchased almost the entire stock, multiple times...so I typically will get most of my groceries here, go to ALDI's for my milk and eggs (extra cheap there), and hit up stop n shop for the canned tomatos and fresh fruits, meat and veggies. I love that whole foods polishes their food so it looks extra tasty, but I can do the same thing at my own house.I only go there for the beef when I'm feeling picky. The bags are 10 cents each. but they are some sturdy bags! I swear, it takes alot to break them! I reuse multiple times at home, and when I remember, I bring them back...but usually I just buy more cuz they make really good garbage bags and they are cheap and very large and thick. read more

As far as Price Rites go, this is my least favorite location. Multiple times I have left without buying anything. Either because they had no decent green produce or because all the open lanes are ten people deep and I didn't have enough time to buy a coconut water and make it to yoga. They do have more items than the Warwick location, but the shopping experience is pretty hectic, so I never come here and do a big shopping. read more

Honestly didn't like coming to this price.. for the fact that the lines are huge and co workers are mean but today it was beyond crazy it was full around 3:30 or so but the cashier Alice young and sweet hispanic girl took my mother right away! Today I shopped at Price Rite and was very impressed with the entire store until I decided to use the rest room. I noticed an employee coming out of the bathroom and did not wash their hands. This was very upsetting to me since I know that this is a rule that should be enforced especially when one is working with food. Management needs to stress the fact that the customers are very turned off when they see this happening. I suggest that Price Rite should make it a strict rule about washing hands. This location hires very unprofessional security guards that stand at the exit. i had a very bad experience at this location when my carriage locked up when I was walking out, I was treated like a criminal, the security guard was very unprofessional and rude and did not explain the process to me about a supervisor having to see my receipt, he told me if I left the store I would be tackled and I asked him if he was kidnapping me and holding me against my will, he was so very rude and very threatening towards me, I thought he was going to strike me, I will never visit price rite store again, they need to hire more professional staff read more
