Being from California I'm use to big Asian store like good fortune. My area lacks everything Asian so I make the drive frequently. Store has everything I need to cook, Filipino, Chinese, Vietnamese and Cambodian, along with many other ethnic cuisine. Aisles are tight and the store is well stocked.

    More cooking/kitchen supplies!

Moved to Newport earlier this year and could not find an Asian market for the life of me!! I was struggling. I went on TikTok and saw so many people posting about this place. Born and raised in the Bay Area, San Jose specifically, there are SOOOOOO many Asian markets. Korean, Indian, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Chinese markets, and everything else in between. I was missing that here in Rhode Island, so I was so excited to come across Good Fortune! My boyfriend is from the East Coast and had no idea what to expect. Off the bat, the outside looks sketchy (to him), but that's common for Asian markets so I was excited. Walking inside exceeded my expectations. So organized, pretty clean, and the store didn't smell like fish (like they usually do, but I'm not hating! I still love those stanky stores). I was amazed at how many things they had inside. Back in the Bay Area, sometimes I'd go to different stores for different things, but Good Fortune pretty much had everything I was looking for! I will say, if you're unfamiliar with different cultural shops and their ways of serving customers, maybe don't come here and stick to your Aldi's or Stop & Shop. Understand that the people working here may not be fluent in English and were not given courses on customer service, but they do a great job at keeping the store running so we can enjoy these goods!

This supermarket by far exceeded my wildest expectations. I came here on the recommendation of a friend when I mentioned that I needed to grab some sushi rice and seaweed wraps to make nigiri. I expected to find a great assortment of Asian foods that I can't find at a typical local grocery store, but the minute I walked in and took a good look around I realized I was in for way more than I bargained for. First of all looks can be so deceiving. From the outside the store doesn't look as big as it does on the inside. I immediately was met with the viral mango ice cream treats that have been sending social platforms in a tizzy. I couldn't resist and grabbed a pack of the mango (peach was also available). It's not what I had gone in there for, but I darn sure was leaving with them. When I went to look for the items I had actually gone in to purchase the amount of variety and choices were overwhelming...In a good way. There were so many different sushi rices to pick from and so many different seaweed wraps, but I narrowed it down, grabbed what I needed along with a bottle of beef Bulgogi sauce on the way out. I will definitely be back when I have more time because the frozen and refrigerated section beckon to you as well as a home section and I know there are many more amazing surprises in store for when I go back.

Good Fortune Supermarket has multiple locations, but this is the only location in RI. Driving up to this location, the supermarket is a bit secluded and there are plenty of parking spaces. Good Fortune Supermarket is your one stop shop for all Asian groceries for everyday essentials. All the aisles are organized and labeled. There is a wide selection of produce and the vegetables are fresh. They even have a bakery section so you can pick up your favorite buns and bread and a section to purchase hot foods and chicken/duck/roast pork. I enjoyed browsing each of the aisles and getting groceries for the week. I think the vegetables prices are a little more than compared to NY asian supermarkets, but our selection is limited in RI and it is good quality. A bag of tangerines was $1.99/lb; baby galan choy tips and baby yo choy tips was $2.49/lb; square toast bread was $5; and jalapeño pepper was $2.99/lb.

i'll start this by saying that i am a grocery store enthusiast and find it a leisurely activity to stroll through aisles imagining all the things i can cook and bake. good fortune is absolutely one of my favorite places to do that. their selection of homeware, fresh fish, and produce distinguish them from other larger supermarkets in RI. my persian cucumbers will last weeks compared to less than a week from other places. they have great deals often and a variety of non Asian groceries too. some tips are that it's cold in there so bring a jacket and bring your own reusable bags! it's bright lighting inside. the service is generally helpful. there was one instance though that makes their service 5 stars and that was when i brought 30 students in and they helped me process 30 gift cards on the spot. and they were so patient and made it a fun visit for my students.

Good fortune is everything you want in an Asian supermarket. It has tons of random hard to find products at often times killer prices. The fresh fruit and veggie section is top notch, and you can find lots of hard to find items there. They also have a wonderful seafood area with too many fresh and live products to list or count. I love going here for holidays because I can grab a ton of fun snacks for my family and they are always so enthused about what I bring home. Definitely a great spot to check out for so many different things.

The lunch box combo comes with rice and three dishes of your choice for $8. I chose braised pork belly, pork chops, and green beans.

Get your groceries and a hot meal in one go. The kitchen has good "fast food" and here's why: Fast, convenient, and cheap! The first picture is a lunch combo box from the hot bar. The combo came with rice, egg drop soup, and three dishes of your choice - all for $8! There were plenty of dishes to choose from and I believe they change often. For lunch, I decided on braised pork belly, green beans, and pork chops with taro (or some type of starch. Regardless it was good). It's a bang for your buck if you're in a hurry and want real food. My only complaint would be too much rice, but other than that, I'd say it was a balanced meal. Next is dim sum at the hot bar! Minus the traditional cart experience and dining in, the selections were pretty good. Pictured are short ribs with pumpkin (top and bottom) and shumai (left and right). The service is fairly quick at the hot bar and everything is kept warm. If you're wondering "did this girl eat EVERYTHING here?" I will respond with yes. I sure did. Next to the hot bar, there is a pastry section with baked goods. I suggest you grab a roll or two on your visit. The roasted pork is also delicious but something you'd share with family. Overall, I enjoy the hot food choices here. If you decide to shop for some groceries, it is within an arm's distance. Pick up food at the bar, get some snacks, and you're out the door in no time. Although I live twenty minutes away, my family and I come here often to shop.

This place has so many unique options that you just can't get anywhere else. Some things are really cheap while others are just normally priced. They have a large produce section as well. The only downside for me was the smell. They have a whole fish section at the back of the store that I am sure people will love, but it made the place reek. We couldn't spend too much time in there. Other than that, if you are looking for a lot of Asian goods, this is the place!

    Sweet treats!

    Do they accept apple pay?

I use my Apple Watch and iphone to tap payment.

Is the market open on Sundays?

    Yes it's open on Sundays

I live in Quincy, MA someone told me that GOOD FORTUNE Supermarket in PROVIDENCE, RI had closed down for good is this true? I use to go there when I live in CT.

Open and operating. Alive and well!

Do they carry Lotus Root and Jerusalem Artichokes?

I saw lotus root there. Not familiar with Jerusalem artichokes

Do they accept Rhode Island EBT SNAP?

    Yes they do 🙂

Do they sell Japanese sweet potatoes?

Yes - as well as Korean sweet potatoes. Sometimes, though, these terms are used interchangeably. Also may be known as purple sweet potatoes. At any rate, they have them!

Is salted shrimp available? They're usually in jars. Trying to make some homemade kimchi.

I don't think so - at least not the kind you want for kimchee. Mirae Market - which is not too far away - is a Korean market and they should have this.

Depends on what you're looking for! What kind of JP snacks? They have some, like wasabi peas.

Do they carry samyang noodles and rice cakes?

Yes to Samyang noodles, I don't know about rice cakes.

Whats the best food in the store?

I like the exotic Chinese vegetables that you can not get in other stores....but you might find other choices to suit you. Stop by and try stuff out.

When is Good Fortune Supermarket opening in Providence? The suspense is killing me!

I have a funny little update for anyone who is interested:…read more In August, I bought a monstera deliciosa in a grower pot from Urban Greens for ~$16. I was siked with my purchase as it was. A healthy monstera (no bugs, no root rot, no distress, no disease) for under $20 is always a win in my book. Then I realized that there were probably at least a few individual plants within this one grower pot. I'm a green thumb but I'm also a very busy green thumb, so it took me an embarrassingly long time to get the proper soil for this project. I finally tackled the task of separating & repotting this plant this past weekend. You know those scarves that clowns pull out of questionable places that just keep going & going & going & going & going? & that's the whole bit? Well that was me with separating this monstera. I was the clown & the monstera was the scarf. Any guesses as to how many viable separate plants I divided the original into? My guess (prior to tackling this task) was ~8. The verdict: 20. That's right. I just kept separating more & more & more plants off of the original mama monstera until I had a comical pile of little lads in front of me. So anyways, now everyone I know is getting a baby monstera as a gift from me for any occasion for the next foreseeable future. I have 5 monsteras in pots & another army of monsteras propagating in water. Talk about bang for my buck. $16 for one monstera was already exciting but $16 for 20 monsteras? Unbelievable. Thanks, Urban Greens Market, for my army of monsteras!
