I have a funny little update for anyone who is interested: In August, I bought a monstera deliciosa in a grower pot from Urban Greens for ~$16. I was siked with my purchase as it was. A healthy monstera (no bugs, no root rot, no distress, no disease) for under $20 is always a win in my book. Then I realized that there were probably at least a few individual plants within this one grower pot. I'm a green thumb but I'm also a very busy green thumb, so it took me an embarrassingly long time to get the proper soil for this project. I finally tackled the task of separating & repotting this plant this past weekend. You know those scarves that clowns pull out of questionable places that just keep going & going & going & going & going? & that's the whole bit? Well that was me with separating this monstera. I was the clown & the monstera was the scarf. Any guesses as to how many viable separate plants I divided the original into? My guess (prior to tackling this task) was ~8. The verdict: 20. That's right. I just kept separating more & more & more plants off of the original mama monstera until I had a comical pile of little lads in front of me. So anyways, now everyone I know is getting a baby monstera as a gift from me for any occasion for the next foreseeable future. I have 5 monsteras in pots & another army of monsteras propagating in water. Talk about bang for my buck. $16 for one monstera was already exciting but $16 for 20 monsteras? Unbelievable. I generally like the store and they have a ton of foods that fit into my dietary restrictions. The staff are always helpful and friendly and the store is clean. My issue is that many times I have picked up produce or refrigerated foods that have gone bad or on the verge of going bad. Once I bought some vegan cheese that was covered in mold. Fortunately, they refunded me. Freshness seems to be a slight issue here. read more

This co-op welcomed me into the city. It was the first place I became a regular. I joined the co-op because it's one of the few grocery stores in the west end- but even after leaving the neighborhood I'll come back. Love all the cashiers, even when it's busy and they're tired they always seem pleased to see me. When you're a member you get 10% off one purchase a month - I save it for when I'm buying high price point items like coffee and oat milk. Speaking of coffee --New Harvest (best coffee in pvd to me) is the cheapest here than anywhere in the city. Lastly if you're in a rush and need a quick meal head over to their pre-cooked section. This new Urban Co-op opened in late June 2019 and it's really nice. Big parking lot, nice big entry way, very well laid out grocery and produce section. The prices are very competitive with other stores in the area. The freshness of the produce is evident and they have a large variety of nuts, dry good, frozen foods and dairy. Many of them are sourced locally. Their prepared food bar looks amazing. Great choice for people in the area to make a nice takeout lunch. Nice staff, friendly and helpful. read more

Update...since being unemployed due to COVID and living alone, I make it appoint to stop by here daily for my dinner shopping. I've gotten a much better experience with consistent customer service. In fact, I must have just caught someone on a bad day and now feel bad I wrote a review about customer service previously. Everyone here has been friendly and helpful and now that I'm a regular, they go out of there way to say hello or make casual conversation. If I have a question about a product someone will always come from out back and spend as much as I need to help me with my purchase. For a small market, I prefer this place to Stop and Shop everytime. They have more diverse product and are half the size. You rock urban Greens! read more

This is the worst excuse for a "coop" I've ever seen. If it weren't for the fact that there are no alternatives for food shopping on the west end I'd never step foot in this place. The produce is the worst, never fresh and very poorly managed. I've bought vegetable soooo many times only to get them home and discover they're rotten on the inside. Moldy bread, stale, past the sell by date dry goods and poor selection of groceries makes this place a huge failure at an attempt to meet the needs of the community they purport to serve. Not to mention that the prices in this "coop" are on average higher than Wholefoods!!! The member benefits are negligible and the management and board are clueless and incapable of listening to members!! Unless absolutely necessary I'd recommend avoiding this place!!!! read more

Fantastic service- i've never had beef with any of the employees here, and the lines always move fast, but recently i had to use the restroom just minutes before they were closing and they were generous and kind enough to let me in! said bathrooms were also in marvelous condition! while the prices are a little on the steep side, i feel like the urban greens co-op adds bright burst of color to cranston st. (aesthetically speaking). their communal food pantry, stationed outside, is also a lovely addition to the community. read more

I have had a wonderful experience at urban greens since I discovered them a few months back. They're a well stocked local grocery store with many goodies! I especially love that they carry tricycle ice cream and depending on the day you can find locally caught seafood. I follow them on insta to keep up to date on specials and their fresh food offerings. Their fish and chips are to die for!!!! read more

Excellent addition to the west end of Providence. This market sells healthy food from local vendors. My girlfriend and I walk from Cranston to Providence and back all the time and this was a great place to buy snacks. Urban greens had fresh samples of tomato salad, sushi, and dark chocolate which is a delightful amenity to the customer. We will make Urban Greens a permanent fixture on our walks. read more

Great place to get dried goods! Trying to reduce my waste even more in 2020, which coincides with my grocery shopping. Any way that I can avoid single use plastic bags or containers is a good way to me, and the co-op is a great place for that! They have an aisle committed to fill-your-own containers, which includes beans, grains, spices, and certain baking needs like flours and sugars. Everything is by the ounce, and is very decently priced! Get your jars or packages weighed before your shop so that they can subtract the weight of the container from your product. Packaged goods? Not the place to shop for them, unless you really need to. But their prices on produce, spices, beans/grains, and local goods (packaged, freezer, etc.) are very, very fair. They also have a membership with a one-time fee that entitles you to discounts on every shop, which is great for frequent customers. We will be back! read more

Was excited for Urban Greens to open in my neighborhood, but when I went to buy a house I could no longer afford to stay in the west end. I visited once before the pandemic, but it seemed so small and I couldn't imagine getting everything I needed there. When the pandemic hit, it became one of the places I felt safest to be. I became a member and now do the bulk of my shopping there. I've become more flexible in my shopping and am able to adapt when they're out of something. My priorities have shifted and I want to spend what money I have with community businesses. The co-op has become home. read more

Technically 3.5 stars, but that's not an option, so I'm rounding up. The store has a great atmosphere and there are plenty of options for vegans (which I love). I'm not sure where the folks who say the prices are reasonable usually shop. We usually go to Market Basket or Trader Joe's and I can say that the prices at Urban Greens are significantly higher (by about $1-2 per item on staples of ours like juice, nut milk, and veggie burgers). The prices are high enough to prevent us from being able to shop here regularly, which is really disappointing because we wanted to be regulars. read more

I shop here every week. It has good quality produce, although it is a bit pricey. They do have occasional deals on meats and grocery items and their dairy prices are very reasonable. The staff is friendly and very helpful. I highly recommend!! read more

It's great having a little supermarket I can walk to in the neighborhood. Although small they they have a good variety of products. I was expecting it to be more of a traditional health food store but they carry many conventional products as well. Although some products are more expensive than in a traditional supermarket they have some great sales for members and non-members. They carry some vegetarian products I have never seen before. Although I have not tried the prepared food it looks really good. Their donuts look like they are from Knead and they carry 7 Stars bread. The people who work here are great. read more

This is a solid 4.5 review. Urban Greens is a much needed addition to the city and especially the west end neighborhood. It's truly a shop for the community - very affordable, high-quality products, much of it local, culturally relevant, and seasonal. I took 1/2 a star off because it does lack a few items I tend to prefer (ground turkey, organic and all-natural breads) or the selection is lacking (chips), but it has all the staples. Between Harvest closing last year and the Dorchester Food Co-op still working towards a physical store, this is currently one of the few (only?) Co-op grocers with an active storefront in the Greater Boston area. Hoping folks in PVD support it! read more

I'm a big fan of Urban Greens! Caring staff have been really fantastic during COVID with keeping everything clean and safe. It's never busy when I'm there, but I'm also not the only shopper. In response to the pandemic, they are offering curbside pickup. Visit their website for more info. They're great about only selecting the brands or using the specifications I provide. It's so much easier to get a curbside pickup order here than from the huge chains. They also offer special hours for elderly and immunocompromised folks. I've been a member of other co-ops, and their prices are seriously remarkable. They're cheaper than other high-end local grocers, significantly better produce quality than large chains, and it feels big enough that they'll have what you need without being too huge and impersonal. I'm also especially impressed with their local offerings (eg plenty of Gotham Greens, Seven Stars bread) and prepared meals. I'll be shopping here for a long time to come. read more

Just what we've needed on the Westside for, oh, about 18 years or so. Urban Greens is terrific. Consistently excellent produce. Really well-stocked shelves with a broad array of products (not just the staples, though they have those in plenty). And a concerted effort at stocking local products. Yes, of course it's *a bit* more expensive than your Market Basket, and not everyone can afford that; but better food and support for local businesses that hire local people and support the local economy benefit us all and are worth supporting. And frankly, near as I can tell it's right around Stop and Shop pricing anyway, which is super impressive for a small independent without the big chain purchasing power. So thankful for this addition to the neighborhood--between this and the farmer's market I've cut back radically on trips to Whole Foods and S&S. Being able to walk here for groceries, then walk to Fearless Fish Market for incredible fresh fish, and walk to 7 Stars for incomparable bread, it's a real gift. purchased arugula from them, within a day it smelled rotten. threw it out. they charged me $3.99 a pound for "grapes" when the item I purchased was peaches, over charged me on the wrong item and they were mealy peaches, at that. not even worthy for a shake. there prices are high. went to get Bonner's soap. Caps were loose and bottles dusty. seriously? their staff is distant, person at register, as slow of a day as it was, was absent minded. not what i'd expect. never going back. read more

I love this store. I discovered recently, and have already joined as a coop member: I think it's more than worth supporting. Even though the shop is small, they happen to carry a lot of my very favorite things, and have introduced me to other, often locally sourced, items that are becoming new favorites. The staff has been kind, friendly and helpful to me from the start. A real pleasure to visit! They also have some lovely plants: there are several sitting on my windowsill, brightening this grey Providence day. Just this morning, I added a sweet smelling, beautifully green little pot of living spearmint. The whole experience has been cheerful and something I look forward to! Also, I've felt safe going there despite COVID19 -- the staff has been masked, it has not been crowded, and they do offer a morning hour for seniors and high risk people. I am so very happy to have found this great little store! A real favorite and an asset to the neighborhood. read more
