Stop & Shop is the largest chain supermarket in Provincetown, actually, the only one...all the other stores are mom and pop stores, local stores or small specialty markets. So, if you are a rewards member, you can check for their digital coupons and get some good deals while shopping here. The prices seem to be the same as the other S&S store in the region, so I don't think they are overcharging anyone here, but definitely, you can get extra savings by checking your S&S APP and see if you can get some discounts. Our friend Bob loves their Pain D'Avignon and there were two racks of them, anything from Rye to White to Sourdough, etc....great tasting bread....excellent for panini, toasts and such.... The lady at the checkout lane was chatty and very personable...they also have some self checkout lanes if that is preferred. read more

My husband just brought home a spicy tuna roll from stop and shop in provincetown. It is the WORST I have ever had from there. The tuna was so bad it had no structure and disintegrated at my touch. The taste was disgusting. The tuna had either been frozen to many times or was old. There is no way the chef didn't know how bad it was. It must have fallen apart at his touch. I am so grossed out that after years of getting Sushi here, I will never eat their sushi again. Yuck. read more

Wow, what a bomb shell of a grocery store in PTOWN. Stopped for some room treats and the last place you can get actual plastic bottles of water. The fact the had HINT WATER was amazing and in plastic bottles. Store has lots of junk food similar to many American supermarkets. 5 varieties of applesauce with sugar and corn syrup. One or two overpriced choices for unsweetened brand. Staff is hard working BUT corporate culture undermines shopping experience. Rarely enough cashiers and self checkout is akin to a really bad video game created by corporate bros intent on frustrating the customer. incessant useless chatter from brain dead machinery that ofen freezes. It's Tempting to drive one hour to Hyannis and shop at Trader Joe's where prices are far better, cash registers are staffed by people, and quality of goods is far superior. Fish market looks and tastes pretty sorry for a fishing town. Veggies are hit or miss. Better to have a home garden, shop at Mac's Seafood for fish and Truro for veggies. Lots of aisles but no there there. The pharmacy is stellar and couldn't be more wonderful. They are supportive, know their customers and help out in every way possible. i went in to see if the customer service desk had my phone since I lost it. it was raining out and I have cochlear implants so I needed to cover my head. so I used my shirt. when I went into the store without my shirt, one of the cashiers got really upset and yelled at me to put on my shirt. this happened after I walked past someone else without their shirt. they didn't get yelled at or told to put on a shirt. it's disgusting and humiliating read more

I wish there were more self-check lanes to get everyone in and out, and the produce area is a bit crowded (not sure what the solution is to that, but it is also the fault of people who just stop with their giant cart right in front of everyone and refuse to move... folks, please leave the cart to the side while you get your carrots). Note to the store: PLEASE carry more Polar beverages besides seltzer water! Polar is a Massachusetts company, and while 38 different flavors of seltzer in various sizes as well as plastic bottles and cans may be helpful, for anyone looking for Polar sodas there are none. read more

I have to agree with Cat L, living in NYC whenever you see a grocery store where two full size shopping carts can pass in an aisle, it's like "schwing"! I shopped here twice while in Ptown and I liked it a lot. Plenty of everything I needed, reasonable prices, quick lines and friendly cashiers. Not sure where other Yelpers shop who say this place is overpriced, but I'd like to know because this was much cheaper than my dumpy little Gristede's back home. read more

Busy and bustling (especially in the summer months), this well-sized (but not overwhelming) supermarket is a great place for both locals and tourists that need groceries. Pretty easy to find stuff and it's very clean. Not a bad walk from the middle of town if you're not schlepping too much heavy stuff. If it's a big shopping day, bring your car...there's plenty of parking. Will probably go here again before heading home. read more

In general, it isn't the worst Stop and Shop I've ever been in, but certainly not the best. During the summer, it is super crowded, with every parking space taken at certain prime times. Everything is more expensive than at the other SnSs on Cape, but it is in the center of a super crowded tourist area, so I guess to be expected. In the summer, the also clear their shelves of most of the cheaper Store Brand products and stock them more expensive brand name products - it probably has something to do with something, but I don't know the reason. In the shoulder seasons, when they are switching back to their winter products, the shelves are half bare and missing a lot of items, so it can be frustrating. The meat department is very problematic - on numerous occasions I have gotten meat, brought it home, opened it up, and it is very obviously gone bad. It isn't a problem to get your money back, but you still have to return to the store to do it - sometimes they give you back double for rotten meat, sometimes they don't - I don't understand the which/why/when, but it is what it is. The produce and fish departments are both kind of sad too. If you aren't planning to use anything from either right away, skip it, because it will be rotten within the next day or two it will be rotten. Although this is really the only market in Provincetown out on the tip at the Cape, they have a very wide variety of items. It is much bigger inside than it looks from the outside. Full-service pharmacy, grocery, and deli. It's very high-tech and you can sign up for the loyalty card and use the scan as you shop device. All the workers are super helpful and friendly. You can also pick up all your limited flavor Cape Cod chips. read more

A bagging person named Bruce was extremely rude and disrespectful. He was also visibly sick, coughing and sneezing and rubbing his face. He was wearing a mask, but shouldn't he be home and not at work during these times of Covid??? He of course touched all the items he bagged, and we felt compelled to wash everything we bought when we got home. I said to him we didn't need bags, as we had our own, and he completely disregarded me. He heard me ,and gave me a look like I'm doing this my way, whether her you like it or not. He proceeds to use twice as many bags as were necessary, throwing soft thing like tomatoes in the bottom, then canned goods on top of them. He then basically threw them into the cart we had, completely disorganized, completely disrespectful, completely unsafe during Covid. He acted and looked like he definitely didn't want to be there and could care less about anything. This is a horrible example of what should be with an employee, and obviously poor oversight by store management and co workers. This is not the first time we have had an experience like this in this store with an employee. We live in town, and have shopped here because it's the only real grocery store in our area. We have decided to drive to Hyannis Whole Foods instead in the future and discontinue shopping at the stop and shop in Provincetown. Just to put it out there, I'm from Manhattan NYC, the land of bodegas and high prices. I was taken back from all the horrible reviews that this place gets on yelp. I feel like the people who wrote the bad reviews are bunch of whiners with their panties stuck in their butts and their expectations for a local grocery store are way off the charts of cray cray. I was pretty worried after reading the review, but after my trip to this location, I felt completely different. The Stop & Shop was a 30 second walk away from my rental place for the past July 4th weekend. The store was very clean, well kept, I didn't see any "ROGUE" produce on the floor and "no one was picking it up". I did not encounter horrible service. In fact, I encountered really good service. During my 4 trips to this location, I was helped by an associate without asking, and people were more than nice at the store. A clerk took me to an aisle for my item, someone helped me get an item at a high shelf (without me asking, and people at the cashier work hard and long hours. Not sure why people are complaining so much about the prices. The prices were reasonable and nothing stood out as "so expensive" to me. The store is quite large in comparison to NYC standards, the choices were more than plentiful.. The layout is slightly strange as some of the items are placed in the back of the grocery store, but really.. are you that lazy and unable to walk? Some of these reviewers are ridiculous, expecting service and quality like it was Whole Foods at Stop and Shop. You pay for what you get. Don't be trying to pay $10 dollars for a cake and expect high quality from a grocery store. That's plain and simple. Honestly, Who the hell orders a bday cake from Stop n Shop. (2 reviewers down) Seafood quality at this location is kind of abysmal, but there are a million places in Cape for you to get freshly cooked seafood at your disposal. The new Provincetown Stop & Shop, a love - hate relationship. The pilgrims as well as the locals are cheering for this nice clean and new store. So much nicer, brighter, and fun. The food looks new and clean and the produce and meat are now wonderful, compared to the old GU Market that was there. Now the prices...can we all say TOURIST TRAP! YEAH! So many common pantry staples are so much more here than the other S&S's and even the S- word "SHAWS"! Example: Cain's Mayo: $4.35! Can you believe that! The store was INSANELY Busy on July 4th weekend and many things were sold out completely (Deli) Final: Glad it is there. Welcome S&S, but keep those prices in check. Decently sized grocery store with a good amount of parking. They had a lot of sales when I was there so I am a fan. The produce appeared very nice but to be honest, I was on vacation staying at a hotel so I didn't buy any of it. I bought their nature's promise package of chicken which they charge more for because there is no added ingredients. A lot of times that I have purchased this it has extra fat wrapped in their pieces of chicken that is not even attached to the breast to add weight to charge more. Photos will follow but they are still shots from the video I shot when I opened the package. I have been videoing opening their packages after the third time it happened to me. If you buy this and find that they have done this return the package. Do not let them get away with it anymore. It may be little money but it's wrong and it adds up for them if people do not complain. read more

Unfortunately for many shoppers in my area, Stop and #Shop is the only supermarket in town. Without exception, every time I shop there, I am overcharged and many items listed in our town newspaper that should be on sale, aren't. I first try speaking with the checkout clerk which usually goes nowhere. That person recommends I speak with customer service which I do end up doing. Customer service usially then apologizes fir their mistake and makes the necessary corrections on my bill. At that point I have waisted at least 25 to 30 minutes dealing with nonsense that I shouldn't have to. Stop and Shop is by far one of the worst grocery stores I have shopped at. Their prices are among the highest around compared to other stores, and they constantly make mistakes and errors on customers bills. And those mistakes are ALWAYS to their advantage. CASH BACK: Don't forget to take your cash back!! Because if you forget they won't do anything to help you. Twice I have forgotten once $20 and a second time $40. Even though most POS self checkout machines have a loud voice which asks you to "PLEASE TAKE YOUR CHANGE" this system does not use that feature. I wonder why? After a conversation with the manager they confirmed this happens a lot where people get money back but forget to take it because it's at the very end and takes a long time to dispense. To further the problem they DONT HAVE ONSITE LOSS PREVENTION. Guess that means if you steal from here you don't have to worry about getting caught because they take your name and call you to arrange a meeting to discuss the theft since there is no one onsite. Good to know. This is theft and your store allows it by not taking action to protect your customers. Then again maybe management is in on it and splits the cash back finds between all the workforce. Who knows but they sure don't try to accommodate their shoppers when it would only take a simple reconfiguration of their system to allow a loud verbal warning to "take your change please". #StopnShop #Theft #SocialProfit read more

There must have been a huge ( very positive) management change. The employees are friendly, helpful and the deli staff actually offers you a slice of your order. The bakery selection is varied and they will make special dessert orders for you. The produce section is weak but appears clean. The rest of the store is average but the mainstays like toilet paper and paper towels are way in the back of the pharmacy (weird). Prices may run a bit high but the weekly specials are a real deal. I live in town and would rather drive an hour to Hyannis to go food shopping. I don't think what's on their shelves is always fresh and the meat is definitely questionable. It's really sad that they are price gouging because there is no other store. They have a monopoly and therefore no reason to improve, but this place is like the red-headed stepchild of the chain. To sum it up... More expensive? Yep. Unbearably small? Yep. Poor selection? Yep. But my main complaint, is that the tub of coffee I bought had already been opened, and it was over 5 MONTHS EXPIRED!!!!!!!! How it got back on the shelf is beyond me. She helped me and then turned to her coworker and insulted me-- right in front of me! Complaining about customers needing help (self check out machine didn't register an item, blah blah blah) shouldn't be done while you're working. One of the most busiest stop and shops I have been to in recent history. Clearly not too big, I wish this was not in PTown because it does not have enough space inside to handle the crowd that comes to vacation in PTown during the season. The aisles were fully stocked to handle the weekend rush. It took me less than a minute to find the soda aisle. Little did I know I would end up spending more time somewhere else.... And here - I have to give credit where credit is due. The staff. Extremely helpful, very very patient and super hard working. As someone standing in the line to checkout a 12 pack box of Fresca, since all self check out fast lanes had big lines, I happened to be lucky enough to stand behind someone who was paying for her groceries. Let me start again - I happened to stand behind a lovely lady who had about 17 bucks worth of nickels and dimes (no quarters) as her payment method and had a few dollar bills in hand, just in case the change was not enough. In my mind, I was saluting the girl who was counting the coins and had a genuinely blissful smile on her face. But the woman at the end who was bagging the 22 something dollars worth of groceries, was giving me the looks and wished I was standing next to her so she could vent! God Bless both the ladies and also the customer who evoked such equal and opposite reactions from all of us. None of the 2 ladies at the checkout asked this customer to walk up to the coin-master right infront of that checkout counter. My brain decided not to over analyze or rationalize or judge anyone. All I could see was a simple thing: customers in a retail store can be challenging. And for someone who has never worked in retail in my life, I value the patience that employees who work in retail can sometimes exercise. 5 stars to such workers. By the way, at the end of the transaction, the change was not enough. the customer handed the girl a few dollar bills and got some more change back (in the form of a quarter and few dimes - I had to witness that happen). Hope next time she comes, she does bring that quarter back as one of her payment methods - for the sake of the bagging woman. God Bless! The store has a parking lot probably bigger than the store itself. That again says a lot about the importance of things of bigger significance and importance around here. What can I say? We came to p-town in May, which is off-season. After dark the Stop and Shop is the only place in town you'd be able to find people around, see the lightings and feel safe. We stopped by a few times this week. Do we really have so such craving for apples and oranges? I don't think so. We are there just to feel that we're not so lonely. Haha. But seriously, I'm impressed that their price is not too much higher than those I saw back home in New Jersey. Three stars for the fresh produce and seafood. I'll give them one more star because they stay open much later than 90% of the stores in town. I can't get this place. It's a super market. Nothing too extraordinary,but they are the slooooowest and have the most attitude you will ever encounter in a supermarket They are either the laziest people, the surliest, or the most drugged out. Filled out a lottery ticket while I was waiting for the deli, 18 mins and I was 3 numbers away, and still waiting. The guy at the counter asked if I from the pen in the jar. I said yes. I put it down write next to the jar. He asked for me to put it in the jar. He was standing right in front of it. I told him its right there right next to the jar. He was adamant that I pick it up and put it back in the jar with the other pens. I asked if him if he was serious. He said yes. I just put my ticket form down and walked right back to the deli line. He had no choice but for himself to pick it up and put it back in the jar. What the f was so special about this 1 pen and the 10 others in the jar. read more

Love the Stop & Shop, but a special FIVE STARS for Tiffany in the Meat Department. She is not only one of the nicest people who works at the Provincetown store, but the best meat cutter. I recently purchased a few of their amazing rib eye roasts. Tiffany offered to take the time and cut the roast up into steaks for me. They were excellent!
