Stop & Shop Till You Drop!! hopefully it doesn't ever come to that but just in case it does and anyone's looking for me, I'll probably be over in the Meat Department. Seriously though anyone who really knows me would've already figured that one out in like three seconds, LOL!! This is a pretty solid store where the positives definitely outweigh the negatives and most of the employees here seem genuinely helpful plus shelves are well stocked. I'm always able to get whatever I'm looking for plus some other stuff I didn't even know I needed but bought anyway. As someone who's not from this area it isn't my regular go-to grocery store but with reasonable prices on most things thanks to their "Rewards Points" program, I could definitely see myself Stopping & Shopping here whenever I'm in this part of the neighborhood. This is my go to when ShopRite is fully packed with the crazies. Simple place. It's a hit or miss with the produce section but I go on the weekdays now and avoid the weekends. It's a little more expensive than ShopRite or even target but all good. I got for convenience and my sanity. Lines are usually short. Very clean and quiet. Love the robot guy Marty and watching the new people stare at it. read more

REFUSED flat out to write Happy Birthday on a cake. Unbelievably LAZY. How can you recommend a store when they don't give a crap.

This update relates to the meat department only. I had given their meat department a favorable review, but not anymore. As a number of stores have done recently, but more so at Stop & Shop, they've switched over from store-cut to pre-packaged meat. I can't even find store-ground hamburger meat anymore. It's all factory-made and shrink-wrapped. You can still get store cuts at the butcher counter, but I don't always need a three-inch thick steak. I guess nobody wants to work for a living anymore. Also, there's now that creepy robot that roams the aisles. It cornered me in the bakery section recently, and wouldn't let me go. It just stood there, beeping and staring at me with those stupid googly eyes. . . read more

I shopped for 45 min and the entire time the woman working there had NO MASK!!! I wanted to see how long it would take for her to put on a mask, maybe she was taking a break but no, no mask the entire time. And the other employee, I assume was the manager said nothing the whole time!!! I finally asked that she put on a mask. Ridiculous. Also, noticed 2 shoppers with NO MASK!!! What is going on with people who have ZERO customer service sense and have the need to 'try' and intimidate you with such a bad attitude?! Really Stop & Shop?! (August 25, 2017 @ approx. 4:45p - 5:15p) One of your employees, an attendant at the self checkout needs some serious attitude and customer service refresher. Just because the conveyor belt stopped due to an error because my 7 yr old son was sliding it down to the bagging area; does NOT give her the right to give us the proverbial evil stare and bad attitude by talking back to me saying no you should do this and not that?! He is a 7yr. old boy trying to be responsible by helping his father by expediting the packing of the food items! Get real and you trying to intimidate me or my son is NOT going to work! I spoke to the Manger, Mike L. and he apologized to me and said that this was unacceptable. He also told me the customer service manager will speak with the person (the attendant) about this. I really hope you will and hope that the appropriate actions are followed up because in that brief encounter, I am certain she has done it to other people and they may have just brushed it off because of her intimidation tactics. Stop and Shop, I want to love you. You are clean and bright and shiny. But paradoxically, you don't have a lot of customers, and this makes me a little wary. You are so pretty! You have a good personality! Why aren't we all clamoring to date you? There are certain foods that you don't carry, and my children want, nay, demand these foods, and I don't want to go to two places at once. So I haul my weary bones to Shop Rite and slog through the aisles along with half the population of West Caldwell/Caldwell/Roseland/Fairfield/Essex Fells. I love your self-checkout. Sometimes I just don't want to talk to people, and I enjoy scanning my own items. There's something zen about it, almost a form of meditation while doing household chores. But there's always a problem with the scanner, and I end up having to wait for five minutes for the one person who is assigned to all four self-checkouts that are malfunctioning simultaneously. Fortunately, it's usually the same person who helps, and she's so lovely, but she seems eternally exasperated by the situation. Help her out, please. Get these machines checked out. The bar code on my old frequent shopper card became marked and etched from use. I had to mail a request to the company headquarters to get a new one, and now that bar code doesn't work. I don't have it in me to mail it all back to Boston, so I continue to use the crappy card that doesn't work and just punch in the numbers individually. You also have good muffins. The bakery breads aren't so great. I have to get there early before the Calandra's bread runs out. I want to visit you more often, but usually I end up at Shop Rite with everyone else. And that's a shame. read more

I come here fairly often because it's close to work. There's a ShopRite not far away, but that place is always packed - not great if you're just looking to pick up a couple of things. The store is bright and clean with ample parking. Plenty of checkout lanes, including several where you can scan your own items. My most frequent stop is the bakery since I'm in charge of birthday cakes for my office, and I'm always happy with the selection they offer. Cookies, cakes, pastries, pie - they have almost anything you could want. Prices are reasonable, and they do run quite a few specials so it doesn't put too much of a hurting on your wallet. Occasionally, they'll even offer half-cakes and half-pies, which end up being what I buy so I can have a bigger selection of treats. I can't speak much to the rest of the store, but the bakery has a great selection and the staff have always been polite, friendly, and helpful. If I lived closer, I wouldn't be opposed to doing my regular shopping here. read more

Anita in the Bakery department was awesome in guiding me in my order of 24 cupcakes with buttercream frosting (chocolate, vanilla & oreo). If she didn't tell me I wouldn't have even known that those flavors were an option. I would absolutely get cupcakes here again! This store loads coupons on your phone to New Jersey mobile app customers phone and then says not available in NJ. Not a good marketing strategy. Yesterday I went in and they had a scary looking giant robot walking around the store. I asked the cashier what this was about and he said it was supposed to tell them to clean. Nothing for customer benefit. Has this store gone out of its mind??? They also mark up prices before the make up coupons so most of the time your not getting a good discount. They used to give you $4 off 40.00 on the app coupon, but marked it up to $80 to see if the same customers would still use. I think they might go be different customers different deals which seems crooked. If they see you using the $40 they will raise it to see if they could get more money out of you. read more

This is a large, fairly new store. So what can the problem be? While the store is large and there is plenty of room to move around, they do not have a large selection. The seafood counter is the smallest I've ever seen in a grocery store. There are always not enough cashiers on duty. They do have self-serve check out, but you know something always goes wrong when you use this. I do come in here when I don't feel like dealing with the crowds in Shop Rite, but I prefer Shop Rite for selection and better prices. One more thing . . . please check expiration dates on things when shopping here. There are a lot of expired items on the shelves. read more

What happened to this place? A few years ago it was my favorite place to grocery shop in the Caldwell area. Now, not so much. PROS: -Open later than Shoprite or Jack's. -Cheaper prices than Jack's. -Many self check-out lanes are open so you do not have to wait in a long line for a cashier to ring you up. CONS: -A lot of their food is not fresh. I've had to return a container of strawberries because there was mold on them. -They keep the same donuts over the course of a week and advertise them as fresh. I only know this because this past Friday I saw a kid stick his finger into one of the french crullers and that finger indent mark was still there today. -I am pretty sure I have seen the same spicy tuna roll get repacked with a different label over the course of a few days because the roll now looks like it has scabies sprinkled on top. read more

This store started out with good customer service, including the loud woman at self-checkout who would bag your items. Now she spends her time shouting out her personal business and giving you attitude if something doesn't scan properly. Please B, stop screaming.... I don't want to go food shopping and feel like I landed on 125th St in NYC. Even so, its a clean spacious store where you must check expiration dates on everything. Despite these issues, it beats Shop Rite where the customers race around and seem to be enraged and ready to start a fist- fight because of the dirty crowded store conditions. read more

I should mention that this isn't my regular supermarket. So I don't come here often. BUT this is a beautiful store! Very open, well-stocked, and OMG does it smell amazing when you walk inside! It was a smart person who placed the bakery section near the front entrance. Most recently, I stopped in looking for a specific candy for Valentine's Day. When I walked in, there was a HUGE display of red balloons, flowers, and so on. But when I looked for candy, there was barely any! Just the usual M&Ms, boxed hearts, and a few stuffed animals. Oh well. The search continues. I *do* love that they have a PNC Bank ATM inside. I know there's an actual bank in the parking lot, but sometimes it's just nice to be able to go in the store. I go to this store because it's convenient, but after today I am officially done shopping there. The workers are just plain nasty. I understand these are trying times, but this was going on way before Covid-19 started. The past three times I went, three different women when I was checking out were so rude. I was doing self checkout today and had a vegetable and needed some guidance how to plug it into the computer. I called for help and the worker started huffing and puffing and rolling her eyes at me and was slamming the keys. This is the kind of behavior I experience every time I go there and today was the day I decided I will not be shopping there anymore. read more

This store is always clean, always has sufficient cashiers, the self serve check out has a fabulously helpful clerk right there on standby! The shelves are always fully stocked - even with sale items. The help desk employees are helpful. The deli employees are wonderful. read more

Being in close proximity to Shoprite, it's a hard competition. I honestly hit up S&S as it's easier to get in & out of (FAR less traffic & congestion), but I am quite annoyed everytime I go lately. They have sale prices listed, but the registers consistently ring up a different price. I tell them no that's on sale for XYZ. They call a manager (or I do if I'm in self check) and instead of honoring it, they cancel my entire order, walk around the store to every single item checking the price, and then bring me to the manager section to ring up each item again, and then manually write down the price of what rang up versus the sale price on a post it - seriously? If you have sales, make sure your registers match up! read more

Update: I had a feeling this was the case and should have said something before leaving the store. One of the deli guy with anger problems (there's a few) cut me the last few slices on cracked pepper turkey to the point he was cutting into fat and basically no meat. White slime all over my "fresh" turkey 1 day old. When I hear how they have so much expired food, I don't have faith this "fresh" cut turkey is actually that fresh. This is what I get for calling ahead to make sure the deli was still open (as it was 9pm and I didn't want to bother them if they were cleaning up for the day). When I arrived, I even asked if it was too late because I saw him cleaning one of the machines but the lady who answered the phone said they were still open. He growled at me "I SAID can I help you" through gritted teeth (I hadn't heard him the first time apparently). Jesus, get some anger management or something or just end it and out your face through the meat slicer Mr. Pleasant. What a douche. read more

While the produce isn't the freshest I've seen their frozen section is THE BEST I've ever seen. I'm not a huge fan of premade frozen food but their variety will have you wanting 1 of everything. They have wide aisle & so much less traffic than shoprite. I'll never go back to shoprite again..don't know why we waited so long to make the change read more

Meh.Pretty good variety of products and a great organic section but unfortunately I've on multiple occasions bought spoiled food there. Many of the perishable items are way past there expiration date. So make sure you check everything before buying. Also the bagels are not very good sadly. read more

Went here today to do some Thanksgiving shopping -- and was totally disappointed. First of all, the lady at the deli counter was abrupt and rude, especially when I requested freshly-cut turkey breast. I then looked for Cornish hens, but they did not carry them. I finally went to ShopRite where it was much cheaper, friendlier -- and the food was in more abundance. Now I know why this Stop & Shop is never crowded. I will never shop here again. read more

This S+S is so nice, and clean, and large, and bright....but as other posters have said...it is empty! but i kinda like that. I get stuck at ShopRite(SR) all the time looking at an empty shelf because everyone and their mother goes there. This place is not as cheap as SR, but also not as expensive as the Foodtown. i enjoy going here, but im a stickler for low prices and often end up at SR. sometimes i just stop in to get things on sale that week and marvel at the space to maneuver my cart(unlike the SR or Foodtown). CONS: no cart parking :( , annoying bank people inside trying to sell PNC, self checkout usually needs work. read more

This Stop & Shop is very clean and has great items, however, the workers are horribly rude and nasty. Every time I have shopped here, I have been upset by one or more of the workers by the time I walked out the door. Store is well kept and clean but thats probably because it is always empty. Their baked goods (pies,donuts,cookies ect..) are terrible. But by far the worst dept is the deli they're slow and do not know the meaning of thin sliced. Employees are always on their phones, but thats not a surprise because so are the managers. Meat and seafood selections are thin. If you just need to grab something quick its great no lines. And if you need theres a PNC bank inside. Talk about bad ideas lets put a bank in a store nobody shops at. The one shinning spot for this store is their flower dept quick and easy if you need a bouquet nice selection. read more

This store is continually going downhill management changes, and that Scanit system, has caused me to be publicly embarrassed multiple times. Between them and their corporate office I now have 8 cards that are unlinked. On top of that the last time I was there the manager told me what to do, and "fixed it" yet again I arrived positive that the problem was resolved to be talked down to and insulted. Again trying to fix a problem with their card system that they don't know how to use, which caused me to be treated like a criminal. The scanit system will randomly audit you and make you stand there while they rescan 3,5 7 or possibly all of your items, and everyone around you watches; the manager also spilled my coffee. They don't know how their own systems work, or the locations of items and products - go to ShopRite instead at least you will be in and out without being treated like a thief and poorly treated by management. #crappyStopandShop #gosomeplaceelse. On top of that I tried to take a video of them treating me like a criminal and suddenly had the retention manager over me telling me recording without consent was illegal, yet there was a camera recording us right over his head and I saw no sign that I was being recorded?!. I didn't sign a waver? The apps don't work so don't try to use the scanit app or store app, which I will be reporting to Apple, as the teams know that as well. Point blank, #Don'tGoHere, #ManagementSuckExceptInTheEvening, and if you need a coupon, or one doesn't scan or their app was wrong, don't be surprised if someone acts like they don't care and throws a dollar at you instead of fixing the problem correctly. I wish it were still a Kings-what happened to "customer service" they charge higher prices than ShopRite and argue over everything. Sure that'll be my last visit to that store until they get their act together but other than the bagging managers there seems to be a pretty high turnover among the daytime staff, you do whatever don't get involved with that scan-it program. By the way, my order was exactly as I had scanned it, but there is no way for them to harass you through the iPhone app. A quick trip always turns into 2 hours.keep an eye out for a letter to the editor in the Caldwell patch about this monstrous store. read more

I will never go there again. Went there 5 times over the course of a year and each time was an ordeal. They lost my business. No one ever smiles. No one EVER says good morning even though I say it to them. CS woman is a miserable person and the older cashier treats me like a criminal because I use coupons. It's no wonder the store is always empty. And why does this store always smell like rotton fish? I told the manager that it smells so bad that I would never buy any fresh seafood from there. I also told the manager that he really needs to tell his employees to lighten up. Grocery shopping should not be so stressful. Especially when you're already stressing about having enough money to pay for groceries to feed your family. There is a SHOPRITE just a mile away. The store is bright and shiny but beware and check expiration dates on the food.,I bought a container of sliced mushrooms on December 26, 2015. When I went to cook them the expiration date was December 19! This is not the first time I have seen expired items for sale. I only use the bank in the store and buy stuff if I can't get to Shop Rite. I use it more like a convienence store. I miss Kings! read more

The store is just fine except for the produce department which is both overpriced and not the freshest. They leave the asparagus stalks just sitting around in tepid water instead of ice which seems gross to me. There is a guy in produce who looks really skivvy, long unkempt greasy hair. I would not buy anything he puts away. One very nice older lady cashier but one real bigmouth cue ball haircut lady who wont shut up and you can either hear her or another lady in meat dept. from halfway across the store. read more
