They take x-rays, a really awesome looking 3D scan, and Dr. Stromberg examined my teeth and bite. I took my daughter to another orthodontist for her first round of braces and looked for a different office for her second round (I'll write a separate review for the first place). I had a friend who recommended Dr Stormberg so we went in for a consult. It was a nice, clean, bright office and the staff was all very friendly. We had our consult and got a quote for round 2 which was quite a bit less expensive than the first place we went. Dr S and the lady who quoted us were awesome and made us feel very comfortable. So much so we decided to have round 2 at this place. I'm so glad we did. They have top of the line equipment and showed us a video of how her bite is and how it will be corrected with the braces. So neat! All of our visits and communications have been so friendly and comfortable. My daughter messed up on her Invisalign trays and we called, they didn't shame her, they quickly came up with a solution and we implemented it. I have to write this review even though we didn't end up going here for my sons braces... the staff here were a class act through and through. Specifically Deann. My son had gotten an upsetting prognosis from another ortho that he would have to have his impacted canine extracted so we decided to get a second opinion and came here. The experience was amazing. Start to finish even when I told them We would no longer be going here. The Dr called me directly the night before our appointment even. When does that ever happen these days? We came in and they made my son feel so good. They normalized what he was going through. Walked him through each step and said his tooth could absolutely be saved. My son walked out feeling confident and no longer in tears over having to get braces... this to me was priceless! I was so impressed I put money down. I ended up finding another orthodontist that took my sons insurance and ultimately had to go there for various reasons but regardless throughout the whole process Deann was understanding and supportive in me finding the right orthodontist... put the work on hold and even refunded me ALL of my money even after having signed a contract. This is trust! So rare and hard to find these days... completely honest and transparent. I was actually sad we found somewhere else to go but if anything goes wrong we know where we will be going hands down. I have been taking my kids to Dr. Stormberg for years. I am on my 4th child at his office. He is wonderful and most of the staff is wonderful. The reason for the three stars is the office manager Diane. She is very rude and condescending. Every encounter with her has been very uncomfortable. Maybe she manages her staff well but it would be best to leave the patients alone due to her lack in customer service. If you do have any interaction with her that makes you uncomfortable please let her know she is being rude and it's not acceptable to treat people that way. Besides Diane everyone is great. The place is clean and there is usually a parking spot. Dr. Stormberg is very knowledgeable. read more

Dr Stormberg advised me that I was a good candidate for Invisalign. However, the aligners he supplied caused injuries to my tongue, and two years later I continue to suffer nerve pain on a daily basis. On July 22nd 2022, the day after the aligners were delivered, I returned to Dr. Stormberg's office because three attachments had fallen off during the night. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After the assistant assigned to me had glued on new attachments, I let her know that sharp edges on the aligners were rubbing against my tongue and causing pain. She then trimmed and filed the edges and assured me I would get used to the aligners in time. Dr. Stormberg was there but did not come over to check on me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My follow-up appointment was scheduled for September 15th - 8 weeks away. During that time, I complied with the instructions I was given and wore the aligners for 22 hours a day. An article from the Journal of Orthodontic Science warns that "orthodontic appliances can cause unwanted complications if adequate care is not taken during the treatment." The article goes on to say that "Removable appliances carry with them the risk of tissue impingement," and that "Undercuts should be carefully evaluated and care taken to avoid any sharp edges in the appliance" It also recommends that "Patients should be recalled a few days after appliance delivery to check for any tissue impingement or trauma." If Dr. Stormberg had followed the protocol recommended in this article, the injuries to both sides of my tongue and resulting nerve damage could have been avoided. On 12th September 2022, I returned to his office a few days ahead of my follow-up appointment, which was scheduled for eight weeks after delivery. By this time, I was desperate. My pain level had increased, and a painful lesion (a red, bumpy mass that was later found to be a traumatic fibroma caused by constant irritation) had appeared along the left lateral of my tongue. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Dr Stormberg came by toward the end of my appointment. It was then he acknowledged that the sharp edges of the lower aligner were causing trauma to my tongue. And yet Dr. Stormberg failed to identify the severity of this injury. He acted as if it was nothing to worry about and handed me some sample packets of Rincinol, a topical product commonly used for the relief of oral pain from canker sores.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Two weeks later, when my tongue continued to hurt and showed no sign of improvement, I went back to Dr Stormberg's office. At the end of my appointment with an assistant, he glanced inside my mouth and blurted out - in an exasperated tone of voice - "something is wrong, and we'll make it right." This time, he ordered new aligners.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When they were delivered on October 20th 2022, the sharp edges over the crowns on my back molars irritated my tongue just as they had before. He then suggested I switch to regular braces. I refused that option because A) That's not what I signed up for and B) I no longer trusted him. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When he was unable to supply aligners that fit my crowns as well as my natural teeth, his attitude toward me changed to one of frustration and dismissal. At the end of that appointment, he bluntly announced there was nothing more he could do for me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I accepted that and told him I was going to give myself time to think about what to do next. After I left Dr. Stormberg's office, I sought opinions from other dental and medical providers. An ENT specialist examined the aligners in my mouth and pointed out traumatic lesions on BOTH sides of my tongue. He recommended I stop wearing the aligners to see if the lesions would heal. After I had passed this recommendation on to Dr. Stormberg's office, I received a check in partial refund of the monies I had paid up to that point. I had previously thought that it was fair for him to keep $1,000 ($500 from me and $500 from Delta Dental), as I assumed the pain I was experiencing would go away and that the lesions would heal. My Dentist took photos of the left lateral lesion and referred me to an Oral Surgeon. The Oral Surgeon recommended an excisional biopsy on the left lateral lesion and scheduled it to be done at his office on January 6th 2023, but I later cancelled this appointment and authorized the ENT specialist to surgically remove the red, bumpy areas on both sides of my tongue under general anesthetic on January 31st 2023. Excisional biopsy reports confirmed them to be "polypoid lesions with reactive fibroblasts and reactive neural proliferation, compatible with trauma" (commonly known as irritation or traumatic fibromas). [[HIGHLIGHT]]AFTERWORD: Nothing in this review will surprise Dr. Stormberg. I wrote to him in May 2023 with details of what happened after I stopped wearing the aligners he had supplied. In his response, he continued to insist that the painful lesion on the left lateral of my tongue was a canker sore in spite of evidence to the contrary. His letter was full of excuses and misinformation, and not once did he express any concern for my pain and suffering.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] read more

We chose Stormberg Orthodontics for our son and daughter, which were in middle school, a few years back after checking out a few different orthodontics. We decided with out a doubt to choose Stormberg Orthodontics because of their honesty, and genuine sincerity of caring for the patient. When we met with them for the free consultation, you sensed and saw the sincere, excellent, and honest care they put into all their patients. Both our son and daughter had two completely different oral situations. Our son had an oral emergency that needed to be tended to immediately , and our daughter simply had the usual case of an overbite, and some crooked teeth. Other orthodontics were very eager to throw braces on our daughter right away, and said she would have them on for the next 4-6 years. Those orthodontics were simply interested in our money, and we sensed it was not the right fit. We kept looking. A friend referred us to Stormberg orthodontics after sharing with us her families great experience with them. During the consultation Dr. Stormberg told us our daughter was not ready for braces yet, and to come back the following year too see if she was ready. He also said when she was ready, that it would only be 2 years of her having braces on at the max. For our son with the medical emergency they handled our son with precision, and excellent care and treatment. Our son was done with his treatment in 20 months. The following year we took back my daughter to see if she was ready to have her treatment started. Dr. Stormberg said she still wasn't ready to come back in 6 months. We went back in 6 months and Dr. Stormberg said she was finally ready. My daughter received excellent care and her treatment was done in a year and a half. We are so thankful and grateful! We went to Dr Stormberg for a second opinion after getting a ridiculously high quote for my daughters braces. We were referred by a friend I trust so I thought it was worth the time to check it out. We were treated well and professionally by the office staff as well as the back office staff and Dr Stormberg was very friendly and thorough. His recommendation was a bit of a different approach but the cost was almost half.... and since we didn't have dental insurance, cost was was super important. They also offered financing or a discount if you paid all upfront which is what we did. I think it was 5% or 8% off. But honestly I can't remember for sure. We have been seeing them now for almost 2 1/2 years and have NEVER had any problem or bad experience. The only thing that even comes close is that the t rearming has taken a bit longer than we hoped but it did not impact the cost... her teeth would just not cooperate but we are now in the home stretch and she is scheduled to get them off in 3 weeks!! I just finished my orthodontic treatment with Dr. Stormberg and I could not be happier with the results or the treatment I received! I had braces for 4 years when I was younger to try and correct my open and overbite, but I was told that I would eventually need surgery since they were not able to correct the issues with orthodontia alone. After avoiding the issue for 10 years, I decided to seek treatment for my worsening lock jaw and almost constant pain. I went to several orthodontists for consultations, but Dr. Stormberg was by far the most professional, knowledgeable, and confident about my treatment plan. He and his staff prepared me (and my teeth) and got me through 2 TAD surgeries and my lower jaw orthognathic surgery without a hitch. Dr. Stormberg worked closely with my surgeon, and together they were able to give me, for the first time in my life, a pain free and fully functioning bite. I am truly grateful for Dr. Stormberg and his amazing staff. They answered all my incessant questions, were honest about my progress, and were sympathetic, patient, and understanding when I was in pain. TLDR: don't send your kids here if they need any ortho work beyond straightening a few teeth. Dr Stormberg doesn't know what he is doing and is too arrogant to listen to patient complaints. I was a patient of Dr Stormberg's for years and had two sets of braces put on by him. After my second set came off, I was not happy with my open bite not to mention I was constantly experiencing severe jaw pain. When I brought this up to my dentist, he examined my x rays and file from Dr S's office and was shocked that he had allowed my back molars to grow farther than the rest of my teeth, causing all the weight of my jaw to rest on two teeth, hence all the pain. Records of xrays indicated this had been ongoing while I was in the care of Dr. S. My dentist no longer refers patients here. I brought up the issues to Dr S who said the only reason I had pain was because I wasn't wearing my retainers (which is not true, I was adamant about wearing them). He also told me there was nothing wrong with my bite and that it wasn't open. My front teeth stuck forward so much that I had trouble biting through things. It was plain as day and he wouldn't listen to me. After a call from my dentist, and a second orthodontist I got a consult with, Dr S STILL would not admit there was an issue but said he would do what I wanted. He is extremely arrogant and couldn't admit that the work he did on my teeth was sub-par. He did offer to fix them free of charge, again after two calls from two other professionals, however, if I wanted Invisalign I'd have to pay for that myself. Mind you, I am now in my early twenties and applying for jobs/going on interviews, etc. so I wanted Invisalign. I decided that a doctor who cannot even own his mistakes, and do what is right for his patients to correct those mistakes, without other professionals putting pressure on them, was not a dr. for me. I also didn't feel it was worth it to put up with his attitude and disregard for my pain, so I ended up returning to the Dr I did my second consult with and am almost done with my Invisalign treatment. And even though I am now paying for a THIRD set of braces, my jaw pain has subsided almost completely and my open bite is closed. Imagine that?! The "problem" he said wasn't there has been fixed by another orthodontist. Don't waste your time and money here. I would give zero star if I could. All the good reviews must have been written by their staff. I got Invisalign. The price was fair but the staff including the orthodontist are just terrible. The clerks are rude with the worst attitude, they don't know customer service. the technicians act like they hate their job and don't care, the orthodontist is one of the most condescending people I've ever met and seems to have god complex. He does not listen! I ended up not getting the teeth I asked for/he promised I could have. I don't care about which school people went or what kind of education they have on their wall. Be careful when calling this office. They will cancel your appointments for no reason at all and not reschedule you. During Covid I was told by their office that they could not schedule out very far so I had to either keep calling to schedule or schedule and then reschedule if I cannot make it. SO, I opted for scheduling as far out as I could and would reschedule as needed. Apparently this was the wrong decision as they now will not schedule me for any appointment for missing too many appointments which I didn't actually miss because they were canceled or rescheduled. This is laughable! When Nancy called to cancel the appointment she made for me, it came with a cryptic message of "you no longer have an appointment and I cannot reschedule you." So I call to find out why and she said, "I don't really know the back story but you missed too many appointments." So rude and unprofessional. His office quoted me $5600 for 14 months of braces and $500 for a Tad to pull the falling tooth back into place. Seemed really high so I shopped around and found Orthodontics Unlimited in El Cajon that gave me a cash price of $4000 for 18 months and $300 for a Tad (the tad was not necessary because in just 5 months Dr. Kuruvadi has moved my tooth back into place by using the braces alone). I called to schedule an appointment for my son and had to cancel due to scheduling issues. I called the office and notified of the changes prior to the appointment. I recently called back to schedule the appointment again and was told it was listed as a "no show" and that they'll go ahead and make the appointment but if I "no show" again they won't see us. Overall excellent service! The technician and the doctor are outstanding! I have had a few minor issues with the secretarial staff, mostly attitude/pushiness problems. One person in particular has a tendency to speak down to you. Other than that the service is great. As mentioned in another review, trying to get an afternoon appointment is problematic. Friday afternoon appointments are out of the question because they only work till noon on Fridays. So if you have standard working hours then getting an appointment that fits into your schedule becomes a hassle. read more

Even though they spend much time joking with their patients, they are extremely professional and try to make light of any pain brought on by braces.
