My entire family of 5 (me, my husband, and our three kids ranging from toddler to teenager) have been patients at Allison Avenue Dental for a while now, and I can honestly say it's the best dental practice we've ever been to. Everyone there is incredibly patient and thorough. They never rush you and they take the time to explain everything in detail - not just "you need this done," but the why, the benefits, and all your options. It feels like true education instead of a sales pitch, which makes you feel respected and in control of your own care. The front desk staff (shout-out to the wonderful lady who always greets us) is genuinely sweet and makes checking in a pleasure. The hygienists and assistants are gentle and kind, my middle daughter actually looks forward to her appointments because "they're so nice and sweet to me." That's huge when you have kids! My oldest is currently doing Invisalign here and the transformation in her smile is absolutely beautiful already - we couldn't be happier with the results and the way they've guided her through the whole process. Even our toddler, who used to be terrified and wouldn't open her mouth at previous dentists, is now getting comfortable and letting them do cleanings and check-ups without tears. That alone is worth five stars in my book! Lilly was able to schedule an appointment for me in the following week (which is a blessing when dealing with dental). Her energy was welcoming and radiant. She was able to handle my particular situation flawlessly. Mrs. Rhiannan was the dental technician that handled my cleaning and X-rays. She was extremely attentive to how I felt. The cleaning was very thorough, but it was not painful. She did an amazing job. Dr. Fern is a true subject matter expert of his craft. This office manipulated the billing to my insurance and called me over six months later to tell me my insurance didn't cover over $200, a portion of which was not necessary and they knew that but claimed it was covered. If something isn't necessary and they know that, they know it won't be covered by insurance. They did it anyway. After speaking to the office and the insurance company, it was found that the additional discrepancies were the dental office's error, which they admitted to. They said their software wasn't calculating it correctly. They claim an old office manager made the mistakes and that is why it wasn't caught for over six months. According to their office, I'm not the only one this happened to. Regardless, they are refusing to budge. If you don't want a phone call from them with unsuspecting bills more than half a year later (September for work done in February), then don't see this dentist. Otherwise, get everything in writing. They provide nothing to you and you won't be able to even see what you're signing. They keep the screen turned and don't offer print outs. Now I know to ask so I can make sure what they are billing to my insurance is accurate and not fraud. Not to mention, insurance is coming up with a lower number for what they didn't cover, so it appears they are also racking on a tip of some sort. The practice must be struggling to start doing bad business like this. Proceed with caution! read more

My family and I have been patients for over 8 years. We love all the hygienist. They are very professional and care. Never had an issue, but recently noticed the front office customer service has really gone downhill. The new office manager is neurotic and a complete unprofessional mess. She was extremely rude, sarcastic, and even tried to raise her voice at me. *She is solely the reason why I will never bring my family back or do business with Allison Avenue Dental again.* If you look at the reviews most rave about the old days before all the new staffing took place. Very disappointed! I have only been a patient for almost 2 yrs. I have spent thousands of dollars on services. I have waited months for my insurance to get billed. Finally I get my explanation of benefits. I over paid according to my insurance, the new office manager was rude and unprofessional. Instead of trying to resolve the issue she stated perhaps we should part ways. Not a problem! The old staff was kind and pleasant, this new regime, not so much! I heard of Dr. Santoro from reviewers here on Yelp. He had received 5 star ratings from his patients. I was in need of dental help as I had recently lost a bout with a bag of popcorn that resulted in a chipped and cracked tooth. Needless to say the pain was pretty intense. I hesitantly picked up and dialed his office expecting to get an appointment no sooner that two weeks out. I was in for a surprise. I was scheduled for the following morning! From the moment I contacted the office to all my followups, the staff was superb and treated me as if I had been a long-term established patient. Eileen and Vicki, the front office staff, are wonderful and always on top of things, taking care of scheduling, insurance, billing, etc. I never had to show one piece of paper-they took care of everything! As for Dr. Santoro and his dental staff (back part of the house), they are also wonderful. He explained all aspects of the procedures, step by step, as well as any short-term procedures that would solve the problems. He also discussed long-term procedures without becoming a pushy car salesman- something that is so prevalent in other dental offices. All and all, I am very pleased with this dental office. If you live in the 92115 area and are looking for a dentist, I strongly recommend Dr. Santoro. Hope this proves helpful to someone out there. I am pretty underwhelmed by the service I received. didn't like that they didn't offer standard braces and tried to just push invisalign. also the whole having to take a mold of your teeth and then send in to see if invisalign would work. seems pretty out dated.
