I have been a customer for about 10 years to store my wine. Excellent, secure facility that is always at constant temperature for wine storage. The staff has consistently been helpful and pleasant - the Manager Rochelle always makes me feel like a VIP when she receives my wine shipments and get them into a cooled unit until I pick them up! I have used self storage all over the US. They just DOUBLED my rent after two months, saying that they sent me some kind of postcard in the mail. I don't even know how that's legal. This is the most unethical company I have come across in a very long time. The sad thing is they probably do this to people who are less fortunate and unable to fight. I would give StorQuest zero stars if I could. I moved my belongings there after having stored them for several years with another storage, which I thought was horrible but at least the other storage facility maintained their grounds and took care of pest control. One day when I was at StorQuest, I saw MOTHS flying in the hallway so I notified the management. The next time I visited my storage the moths had eaten through my cashmere sweaters. My clothing (even some of my favorite items that I'd had for years) was destroyed. To add insult to injury, when confronted regarding the damage the staff not only offered no apology and accused me of never entering a complaint (even though my original yelp review from June 2019 documented my complaint) because they had no record of it (how convenient) but the district manager claimed he couldn't offer $70 worth of new boxes to secure that this wouldn't happen again because it would hurt business. I've paid them close to $3000 in storage fees for 21 months and have hundreds if not $1,000 (my insurance deductible) in damages and shelling out $70 for boxes to keep a customer's belongings safe from their negligence would hurt their business. Fascinating. Not only would the staff NOT LISTEN, KEPT TALKING OVER ME, and WERE RUDE AND ARGUMENTATIVE as was the District Manager (the Apple doesnt fall far from the tree) in the end it came down to them HARASSING and PROVOKING me by CORNERING me at my unit and verbally THREATENING me over the phone. Highly questionable business practices. Had me sign quote for one price then a day later when my things had been moved in by movers they raised the price almost $100 more per month. When I called to inquire as to their business practices they turned it around and said I had moved in to the wrong unit! Go figure. Months later when my money is tight I get a worse response. I had one lowlife tell me they don't accept "Vulgar language" so he could get me off the phone. Thankfully I had witnesses who can attest to my language and tone so I am not worried but I feel for people who are that loyal to an organization for their paycheck.....to do someone in this manner during the COVID and money being so tight just so they don't have to take ownership of their mistake Pitful. read more

Went on the 1st of the month to get a storage unit, great space, good location, but 0 HOSPITALITY. Rochelle was very hostile from the moment we began moving things into our unit, asking us questions about what we are building because we were "making noise" while moving. Keep in mind moving isn't a quiet activity, 48 hours later I return to see she placed a lock on my unit restricting me from entering even though I am fully up to date on payments. 600$ for a unit that I can't even fully access, if you just want to store your items here and pay your rent and never show up till it's time to finally take them out then this is the spot for you! After picking up our moving truck in Sebastopol and moving all of our stuff to San Rafael, Kris greeted us warmly, clearly ran us through the logistics of using the facilities, and made us feel like we had arrived "home". Terrific customer service. No wait time. The staff person took me to the unit so that I could actually see what I was getting--which helps a lot as it's difficult to visualize space. While I didn't like the additional $20 admiin fee, the company was giving an introductory half-off special for the first month... so I made that money back. THIS PLACE IS UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP. so so sad! 100% complete bummer! the woman i talked to was very nice. but DAMN THEY ARE SO EXPENSIVE. i miss Shay & Silvia wth. if you do decided to go here i recommend UPSTAIRS in the climate controlled units - we were there over 6 years. they are 24/7 surveillance which is great. This is a poorly run company with terrible customer service and treatment of long term tenants. The on site manager is awful at the Golden Gate Ave location in San Rafael, and the District Manager will not listen to customer feedback and shows he does not care about customer service. After 10+ years of being a loyal customer, policies are changed on a whim and tenants are not notified. Then, the tenants are blamed for not being up to speed on new protocols. They used to be wonderful but must be under new ownership as something really has changed. Avoid this company and use one of the other many storage choices in Marin instead. read more

Clean, safe and the nicest staff in the world. Nicole is the best and very helpful and fair. It is squeaky clean and well lit conveniently located in San Rafael. i only had one issue and its not a major one but it could be a bit more private and what I mean by that is I do feel like my every move is being watched and since the owners live on site directly on top of the facility there is a feeling that you must tiptoe around so as not too disturb them. The ;positive of that is that Nicole is aware of all that goes on making it a very secure feeling but a bit less involvement from staff would be nice. I wouldn't hesitate to rent there again if the need comes up again. read more

I run my business out of my StorQuest space. I need to have deliveries signed for and put into space but I can't always be there. Mikaela and the crew have come through when I'm not there and made sure my products are put away and safe. I receive an email soon after a delivery which helps with scheduling my jobs. The service and facilities at StorQuest are top notch. I have stored my wine here for the past several years. The service just keeps getting better. They accept my wine deliveries, put it in my wine storage unit and email me to let me know I received a wine shipment. No extra charge. Mikaela is always on top of it. Recently, I had to clean my garage out in one day. I called Mikaela and she set me up with a storage unit on the ground floor in minutes. She saved my day, actually week!! StorQuest is a great find in a convenient, quiet location behind San Rafael's main post office. I need an elevator, and they have a large freight elevator. The facilities are clean, temperature controlled, and Mikaela and staff are always pleasant, courteous and helpful. Before storing boxes of household items and clothing here, I checked around the area and found many filthy, dark, funky spaces without elevators and with hard-to-navigate spaces that simply did not feel safe and/or secure. I highly recommend StorQuest and am glad I found it! read more

After a few bad experiences in the past with self storage companies, I did some research when I was looking for a storage facility, and these guy's sounded good on paper, compared to a lot of other places I looked at and/or talked to. In reality, they turned out as advertised, and then some. They were very helpful getting things set up, during the effort to move stuff in, and with questions I've had after being there for a few months. The facility is kept clean, there are always plenty of hand trucks available, and getting in and out of the secure facility (even after "working hours") is very easy. The property manager, Peter Griffin, provided me with a good deal for moving in, and made their courtesy transportation vehicle available with flexible options to help match my schedule. And the customer sat person (who also does a good job on keeping the place up), Angela Seidler, was great, and really helpful in a lot of different areas, especially picking the right unit, and getting the account set up. Add to the mix that the location is easily accessible from the freeway, and making payments online is easy, and it all adds up to a very affordable, secure, well kept facility, run by really nice and helpful people. read more

I am downgrading them from a five star to a one star due to my experience with them and have since closed the unit. During the time that I had the unit my code for the gate somehow became deactivated. I was there after hours and there was no one to ask but luckily their customer service was open after hours. I tried calling them, left two messages and they never bothered to call me back. A week later I moved out. A week after that, I got a phone call asking for payment...haha. I recommend you DO NOT RENT here.! If you are here now, get out now. I am currently renting at the Storequest on 55 Golden Gate Dr. in San Rafael. I am a network engineer and store my tools and some personal items in a unit at this location. The information I give here was volunteered directly to me by employees at this location, other renters here, or from my personal experience with Storequest: 1.) UNLIMITED RENT INCREASES which are deliberately COVERED UP - You will find within 7 months of renting that the unit rent goes up. Mine went up $8 /month my first 7 months here, and, I was told by an employee that there will be rent increases of at least $8/month every 9 months from here on out WITHOUT LIMIT, yet they advertize the same low initial rental rate on the internet continuously, with no clear and obvious mention of rent increases that will occur once you move in!!. I was told today by one of the office personnel that they have been told to deliberately NOT tell new and prospective renters that these rent increases will occur, even though the on-site office personnel feel this is dishonest business practice. Oh yes, Im sure the "1%er" dishonest owners of Storequest will tell you its all "covered " in the contract you sign, but the actual facts are that the lower level office employees know that the 5 or 6 page legal doc you sign in the beginning is designed to cloud the new renters understanding with its generalizations (I personally read this doc closely and asked lots of questions and yet never got the specifics on these rent increases) and beside this these employees have been told specifically NOT to take this up with the new renters even though these employees know this has caused numerous upsets with renters after they had already moved in. This was my first time renting so I had no idea that this is a rental practice for some storage rental companies. But, in checking around after the fact, other companies don't have increases anywhere near $8 a month. More in the $2 to $3 dollar range. My main point here is not the business practice of rental increases, though I would not personally do it as it penalizes long term dependable renters , if such practice is honestly and openly made known to costumers from the start and in the advertizing. But, its the fact that Storquest has set company polices to try to hide it from renters. Dishonesty is dishonesty and I got suspicious of other dishonest practices by Storequest. One comment. This whole situation actually borders on extortion if you think about it. You dont really find out about this for 7 months, after you have spent a lot of time and money getting your things stored, and now you have this shock of rental increase and no way to fight back or move immediately to avoid the increase. Nice work if you can get it! 2.) FALSE ADVERTIZING- One renter at this Storequest location has thousand's in wine storage in units that are advertized as temperature controlled. He came in to check on his wine recently and personally measured temperatures of 90 degrees in the wine storage. When he brought this up with office personnel and pointed out this was and advertized guarantee, office personnel then approached the owner/manager about handling this and were told basically," to bad". Ie., Storequest was not interested in spending any money to fix the promised air-conditioning. Another bad indicator. IN CONCLUSION - I would like to encourage that all renters at this location take a stand and do something. I personally will be getting with a close friend and Attorney at Law to find out what actions can be taken. I would like to encourage that you do something as well. Show your protest against these "1%er" business practices. Either dont rent here in the first place, or leave, or just delay your rent until these practices are stopped. Did you know that you can just leave and not pay your last months rent and they can't do anything about it?. An employee told me that. But again, they were actually told not to mention such to renters, and so an unsuspecting renter left two days into into the new month and, being honest, came back and paid a full month for basically being there two days. The office employee was told not to tell her. I pose to you, why pay a business that produces a false product or refuses to service anyway, right? read more
