I visited this office and, while my experience as a patient was fine, I was disappointed by what I witnessed from a manager I'm assuming, tall blonde curly head lady. During my visit, I observed a manager speaking to staff in a way that came across as disrespectful and demeaning. It created an uncomfortable atmosphere, and it wasn't what I expected from a professional healthcare office. The employees seemed to be working hard despite the environment, and I felt bad seeing them treated that way. This place is a scam. I came in for a crown and they tried to charge me $1000 for the crown and $210 for a filling. When I asked Sal the insurance consultant at Story Dental to provide me the charge codes for the services he kept changing the price. I contacted my insurance provider and they quoted me $500 for the crown and $0 for the filling. I called Sal back and now they added additional charges under the blanket code D2999. Even after my insurance spoke with them directly telling them they cannot up charge me they continue to try to scam me. Up charging and balance billing are illegal fraudulent actions and Story Dental continues to do both. They should be sued for malpractice. Worst dental office in San Jose. Money grabbers and dishonest human beings. They also tried to sell me on a deep cleaning. Even though I just got a regular teeth cleaning a month ago. The dentist even said my oral health is really good. So tell me why I need a deep cleaning then and you found a cavity not mentioned during the exam but miraculously appeared when you found out that I was questioning the cost? What a joke. read more

Story dental is a scam dentistry, I specifically transferred my insurance, put them as the primary insurance had all of my dental work forward to them. When I came for my appointment they rushed me through the appointment did unnecessary treatment and then told me that they wouldn't be accepting my insurance. I cannot recommend Story Dental enough! The staff is professional and efficient, and they accommodated my brother for an emergency appointment as a new medicaid patient within a day. The doctor was thorough and diagnosed the problem quickly. They are very knowledgeable and kind with my brother. Very bad experience. , they scheduled me for appointment on a Saturday morning same time as another patient. I got there first before my appointment and they made me wait on the lobby for 30min. The other patient came after me, and they let him go first. After they took me inside, they made me waited another 30min. I understand mistakes happen by scheduling 2 people at the same time but they did not check who got there earlier. At the end, after waiting for more than an a hour they finally started the deep cleaning., in less than 15min I was done. read more

I got cavities covered here a couple months ago and during the procedure there was the assistants who put anesthesia in my mouth to do the procedure in covering my cavities, and then 2 days later the side of my mouth inside where I got the anesthesia started getting infected & I started experiencing pain, I couldn't talk and i lost sensitivity... I couldn't eat hot or cold foods, I couldn't eat right for a whole week, my whole mouth was in pain. I took infection pills and my infection went away very slowly, I went in to story dental where they did my procedure to show them what they did and they got mad because they had to check me without appointment and they said I caused it myself by bitting myself, like what ???? Makes zero sense. They put my anesthesia wrong. Thank god after 1 week and a half my sensitivity came back, but imagine if it never came back ?? The damage they would have done to me. They were having a whole conversation (the assistants) while doing my cavities, which is so unprofessional and weren't even concentrating in their work. I am now scared to go back or even go to the dentist in general. Please don't go here, they just want to take money from you and don't do their job right. Our teeth are so important and these doctors here and assistants want to treat our teeth like they aren't. read more

I had a very frustrating/scummy experience at Story Dental and will not go back. On the phone when I made the appointment, I was very clear what I wanted. I wanted my permanent retainer removed and new plastic ones. When I arrived, I had to wait a while and then when I sat in the chair, I had to wait longer. After being at the office for over 20 minutes, I was told it turns out, the orthodontist didn't work that day and I had to reschedule. No apology, no acknowledgement that my time was wasted. When I went to the front desk to reschedule, they told me my appointment would be $50 for a consultation. However, I didn't even open my mouth nor did I even talk about dental work. Instead of apologizing or attempting to make it right, the front desk people proceeded to argue and try to convince me to pay for the privilege to sit in the chair briefly. "While you did talk with the hygienist didn't you?" It was so absurd since what happened was in no way a consultation. When I made it clear I wouldn't pay, they tried to get me to prepay for my next appointment. I of course objected. It's one thing to make a mistake, it's another thing to make a mistake and not apologize, it's a final thing to make a mistake, refuse to apologize and attempt to charge me for it. I have dental insurance, but for some reason, everytime I come here, they would print out a bill of everything I needed to pay out of pocket including the basic cleaning. They wouldn't even give me the basic covered cleaning and told me I HAD to pay out of pocket for the extreme cleaning. The cleaning I got was less than a basic cleaning. I went to two different dentist after, and they didn't tell me the same thing. I was very disappointed when I left this dental appointment, I was 10 minutes early and still have to wait over 45 minutes to get seated. I got a copy of my X-rays and they were so bad that I couldn't even see the top of my bottom teeth. Only the lower root portion. Then after I went t saw the gentleman for pricing on a deep clean and a crown, I just could believe that with my insurance I would have to pay 920 for a deep cleaning!! I've been coming to Story Dental for as long as I can remember. I started coming young when I was a minor and had insurance through my mother but came even after I had no insurance and had to pay out of pocket. I had a filling that needed work but they weren't available on weekends and I was available on weekdays so I had my filling done somewhere else. The work wasn't the best eventually I started to have tooth pain. I was told by another dentist that I would need a root canal and crown for a chipped tooth and I decided to have Story Dental take a second look. I paid $30 for an exam and xray on my concerned area. Afterwards Dr. Kiran informed me that I would only need a filling. I was so relieved because I did not want a root canal. I went in on Tuesday and was schedule for Friday. Dr. Kiran did a fantastic job explaining everything and making me feel comfortable. I would 100000% recommend Dr. Kiran and the front desk staff is so nice! Now the reason I can't give a 5 star review is for 2 reasons. When I had insurance, my copay for a regular cleaning was $90 and without the insurance (recently asked this month) it's still $90 so I'm a little weary about prices and I would suggest asking for an itemized bill! The second reason is because they do have a salesman here who handles the payments and tries to push you into other services but I simply just say another time when I'm ready. read more

Total waste of time. The lack of professionalism in this establishment is beyond me. I got there 5 minutes before my appointment and was not greeted by anyone so I signed in and took a seat. I was the first person in the building as my appointment was early in the morning (they had just unlocked the doors) . A couple minutes later a man walks in and he is greeted while still the receptionist has not even looked at me. They give me paper work to fill out which took maybe 5 minutes. More people keep coming in and they keep taking them in. Meanwhile I'm sitting there patiently waiting. AN HOUR passes and I ask the receptionist for an ETA because that I need to go back to work and I was told this would take me an hour. She says they are busy and I could reschedule. First of all don't schedule someone and not even attend them an hour after their appointment. It's rude and a disrespectful to waste someone's time like that. I'm not sure why such low stars‍ My experience was good. I was in lots of pain late night. I called the next morning and they squeezed me in within a couple hours. I saw a dentist who did an examination and they also took X-rays. Turns out I needed a root canal. Which makes sense bcuz I had a badly cracked molar. So they once again squeezed me in the next day to start the process. The dentist basically got my tooth all prepped and relieved the pain until I once again got squeezed in to have the endodontist work on me the next morning! Everyone from the front to the back office were very nice and friendly. So within 3 days I went from major pain to having it all done and taken care of! I feel they went above and beyond to help me and I'm grateful. read more

the WORST dentist office/orthopedic surgeon. my partner came into the get a consultation for her wisdom teeth. surgeon said he's able to remove it the same day but didn't provide any anesthesia options. only numbing with lidocaine for 4 teeth wisdom removal. he prescribed her only, tylenol, ibuprofen, & antibiotic meds. he never informed her what to do if she's in more pain. every person i've heard get their wisdom teeth out they've been put to sleep or on laughing gas. generally doctors prescribe norco for emergencies, which this is a HUGE EMERGENCY. he barely cared about the patient, barely informed her about aftercare and what to do if she's in more pain. they didn't inform us of a emergency phone line number. i had to call the office and their emergency line goes straight to voicemail. my partner is screaming and crying from all the pain, and i hate to see my loved one in the much pain due to the neglect of this orthopedic. Worst hustle I have ever experienced my entire life.They had me get a root canal this week at a specialist. Marisol garunteeed me spot for my crown mold this week/month and now they stated they cant see me till Aug 10 2020. Just to get the mold even started for my crown. Its june 19 2020 today. This place upsold me on all my treatment. Basically I started treatment in January. Now I had my teeth decayed and rotted further. Needing more work. Ive been in extreme pain since January. Now I need extra treatment. Extending the original cost from 3600 to 4500 plus. Due to the length of the treatment. If I could rate this place negative stars I would. Worst customer service EVER EXPERIENCED. I'll will be taking this place to court for pain and suffering. Hopefully this place closes down. I read all of the reviews and although it sucks that other people had crappy experiences, I have to say that I've only had great ones. I understand my insurance and out of pocket expenses. Not to say that others don't--but to make clear--I do. I have not been scammed. Maybe I was lucky with the doctors and assistants I've been placed with...I do have to say I've been coming here for over TEN years and I've probably had them all--and they have all performed to my satisfaction. I've gotten to know the staff more over the past year or so because my daughter now has braces. We are at the office often (about once/month). Aurelia even gave my daughter a cute beanie baby at the last visit. The doctors and staff ask my nine year old how school is going, are extremely friendly, and even as me how school/work/life is going. Everyone here has been nothing BUT friendly, caring, and considerate. If the dentist is running late--they tell me. It HAPPENS. I'm surprised to read such crappy reviews but I have heard of these types of things happening in other offices (like Western Dental, etc), so I can't say that other yelpers are full of it--I just hope that they brought their concerns up to the office staff and doctors who run the place to get the situation remedied. If so, maybe it was just a few bad apples who ruined the bunch and who I fortunately haven't had a chance to encounter. I say this: Check the place out before going. Talk to the staff. Get to know what they do and don't handle. Ask about their credentials. Don't wait until the last minute and get yourself backed into a corner and forced to chose just any old dentist (here or elsewhere). And--If you require last minute emergency (serious) dental assistance, they don't have a surgeon...call your insurance and find another place who does! Call 1-800 dental. There are SO many options for everyone to find an office who fits their needs. I originally came to this dentist because it was my assigned dentist, i had fallen down right on my face the day before thanks giving and all my food when flying in the air along with my front tooth. I ended up shoving it back in and and went to bed not realizing i should call my dentist right away. I woke up in extreme pain, called the emergency number they had and after 3 voice mails, the doctor on call returned my call. She explained to me the damage was already done and that she couldn't see me until Monday which was 3 days away. So in actuality they DID NOT HAVE A DENTIST ON CALL! Monday morning came and i was able to get an appointment first thing, which was great. The staff was actually kind of cold and even the doctor was very straight forward and didn't have very good bedside manner. She prescribed some anti biotics and set an appointment for the next week to do a deep cleaning which was going to be $780 out of my pocket, which thankfully they do in house payment arangements. I only had to put $100 down. That was the best part. The next appointmetn that i went to was awful because i was soooo scared of the dentist, but the new dentist was actually quite nice and kept rubbing my shoulder. It came down to the fact that i had to get 3 of my front teeth pulled, and put in a bridge. AHHH how scary is that. So when it was time to leave, the financial girl Christina told me that she would be calling me to discuss how much it would cost to get the bridge. It is now three months later and i am still waiting to recieve the quote for the bridge. I have called at least 10 times, left several messages and actually talked to her a few times on the phone and she tells me that she is going to call me back with the estimate. Then today she called me and told me that she wanted to schedule a routine appointment to maintain my deep cleaning, and i basically lost it with her. I was soooo upset that i hung up on her and had my fiance call back because i no longer wanted to talk to her. The bottom line is that i still want to get the work but there time management is not very good, or there personel skills. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would, switching my kids asap. My daughter came in for a cleaning her appointment was at 1:30. 2:10 comes around and she still hasnt been seen. When my daughter was in the waiting room another patient came in she thought her daughters appointment was at 2 but it was at 4. Im not too sure if she was either friends or family with the other doctor because they were very friendly with each other there but they let her in instead of my kid. I called to ask to see what was going on and while i was on hold they went and told my daughter that the other kid they took in was just sitting in the chair in the back. My daughter had heard and seen that they were actually working on the kid and then later they claimed that she was there for a different treatment and thats why they took her in first even though again, her appointment was at 4. I work a lot and some times miss my kids appointments, its never been a problem for them to go in and get their things done. After i got off the phone they told my 17 year old that they wont be seeing her without a parent there when clearly they took in a child who was much younger than mine without an adult present. I went there to have my wisdom teeth removed and the specialist cancelled the appointment the day of when me and other patients were waiting already. I had already taken my valium and had to tell my employer that they cancelled. They only come once a month so I waited in pain for the next appointment just to be told they cancelled again. I've gone to this horrid place for 4-years too long. It was close to my house. The first time I came here I hadn't been to the dentist in many many years. I had a filling that cracked and needed a root canal. Well the geniuses here broke the canal tool in my tooth and I had to go to a specialist at another place. It also hurt like nobody's business. Since it was my first root canal I thought it was supposed to hurt. After going to the specialist I realized it didn't need to hurt if enough local anesthesia was used. I still have a little piece of metal in my root but the specialist was able to fill it properly. My final straw was waiting in the office for a 10:30 appt. I arrived on time with 3 folks that signed in after me. All three were seen before me while I sat in the waiting room for 35-minutes. Needless to say, I walked out of the "waiting" room. I will take my kids, wife, and myself out of this dentist. I won't comment on my wife's work since my main beef is that I feel we were overcharged from the contracted price of the work via the insurance, but I have not followed through with my insurance company. I'll update if this turns out to be correct via insurance. read more

I started going here, briefly, due to insurance changes a few years ago... I wouldn't recommend it to anybody! The parking is horrible, especially if you have an SUV, like I do. The people working there seem to be nice, but are always too busy to really pay any attention. What gets me the most? I'd never had a cavity in my life before I came to this place, and after my initial exam they said I had 12! The same for my sister, only had 1 cavity before, and they diagnosed her with 16! And we had never missed a 6 month check up and cleaning before, so it's not like we were over due. Upon treatment they insist on doing as many fillings as possible in one appointment, which killed my jaw muscles for days. They also left my bite high, and gave me a hard time when I went back and asked them to adjust it some more. Another thing that stood out to me was how during the whole appointment the Doctor who was working on me and the assistant spent the whole time talking to each other about their personal life. I.E. - their boyfriends or dates, how they spent their weekend going out to dates, bars, clubs, and their future plans, etc... Besides being totally unprofessional, they didn't seem to be too worried about how I was doing during the procedure, and became irritated when they had to keep reducing my bite, which as I mentioned above, they still left high! I later went on to work in the Dental field, and as I gained more experience I realize more the different between a good Dental Office that does good work, and one that is more concerned with quantity, rather than quality. And they are definitely only worried about quantity! Definitely would not recommend coming here! read more

To get a hold of insurance is a pain but more so when the dentist is not listening to the customers wishes. I no longer wanted to wait in the waiting area so I myself called my own insurance to help dental office to get a hold of them faster and after it takes an hour I say "hey all just pay out of my own pocket". They insist for you to wait and after I payed because I wanted to leave. I have an eight year old who need to be seen and we can't be waiting half day until they get a hold of insurance. I pay out of pocket my son gets seen ,doctors is great we reschedule his next appointment, she gave me a quote I agreed to pay out of pocket once again to save the headache of them not being able to go threw my insurance. Next time I come in Before you know it am in the lobby area waiting they kept me waiting for ever finally I pay the given price they had told me for my son to get a Cavity fixed and a his teeth to be cleaned. When my son was called as we walked to the back and waited more time a dental assistant was taking x-rays for my son I informed her that he already had them done the first time and she said well we need more pic,I said ok that's fine,I asked her when were they going to do the cleaning before or after the cavity and she looked inside my sons folder she looked at me with a mean face and said you paid $$& and you think your gonna get a cavity and a cleaning for that price. I told her that that was the price that I was quoted and I don't know what gave her the right to begin to argue with me she said "who gave you this price?" I told her that price was settled with the doctor and the girl who sits in the front desk. This horrible dental assistant began to yell doctor and called the girl who worked at the front and with my son laying down in the chair they all begin to tell me who, which one of us gave you that price I told them,wow this is a horrible way of figuring out this conflict that you as a office have they basically wanted me to pint a finger to who gave me the price when I already had told them who gave me the price my son should not be in the middle of three ladies yelling at me while they obviously made a mistake they just we're all yelling at me. I said to them this is no way to handle a situation yelling at the customer while the patient is laying down (my son) I told them if this is who you handle business accusing that I am a liar That I wanted nothing to do with them. The dental assist and and Doctor said fine take your business else where And when I was walking away a man named Antonio pulled me into his office wanting to clear this conflict I told him in tears who this is not good service them yelling at me I front of my son I wanted him to report them to the owner. He asked if I fix this conflict will you give our office a second chance I told him maybe because I don't like how they handle this mix up that should have been handled differently. When I gave them a another chance the tension was still there doctors attitude and service was not good they were treating me with attitude and I just will never go to a place were they make me feel uncomfortable. My son DOSENT need to be sat down in a chair were a business can't be professional enough to handle situations like this. There can't be more chances given when you are being disrespected. read more

Wow, I am surprised by some of these reviews. The only thing I agree on is that the parking is a little difficult, but I'm sick of big SUVs and trucks crowding me out everywhere. I have been going to the dentist since I was five years old and have had lots & lots of dental work, so I know what I am talking about here. The work I have had done over the years at Story Dental Center has been excellent. The entire staff is very caring, and I have experienced hardly any pain, throughout many proceedures. They even reconstructed most of my front teeth after I had a bad accident. If you take the time to listen to the plan of action, ask questions, and verify your insurance coverage, there is no problem with what you are being charged.
