I can't give my opinion on service because I got my food to go. I've been having a taste for jambalaya lately and ordered here to go. I ordered the crescent jambalaya and added chicken. I'm so disappointed in the quality of the food. The chicken is dry. The sausage was good by itself. I'm aware the rice is cooked in a tomato broth but all I taste is tomato. The jambalaya it's self has no flavor. The amount of food received is good for price but there's no flavor to this. read more

Storyville popped up on one of my social media pages. I immediately added this to my list of places to visit. One weekend I was in the downtown area and decide to see what the hype was about. It was Happy Hour as well. I loved the red plush couches. I walked inside and this place was lit. I waited until I was seated at the bar. It was packed with people celebrating birthday's. Music was loud and the patrons were loud. After, I was seated the friendly bartender came over with a glass of water and menu. I didnt have to wait long to place my order. I ordered the catfish nuggets and fries. Their machine for the frozen cocktail was out of order that day. For dessert I ordered the sweet and savory beignets $2.00 each. I like the New Orleans decor theme and intimate setting. The food wasn't what I expected. My catfish nuggets wasnt fully cooked and had a bad fishy taste. My beignets were semi hard and wasn't tasty. The 2 stars are for the wonderful service of the bartender and the nice decor. The food was disappointing and the music was way too loud. My boyfriend and I were on vacation and were excited to try Storyville based off the raving reviews. This place did not disappoint and I'm still thinking about the food we had. We were redirected to check out the "speakeasy" located downstairs which had its own bar and sitting area. It was a little smaller and gave vampire lair which was a vibe. I had the red fish étouffée and the fish was so tender. Everything on my plate was flavored to perfection . Valentines Day wasn't what I expected at all trying Storyville for the 2nd time! Arriving 5mins late after our reservation it was cancelled before my kid and I even arrived! I let the establishment know ahead of time that I would be late due to untimed traffic but to my surprised we arrived right before the reservation well, five minutes later. As we approached the front desk I let the lady know it was a reservation and of course no reservations were found or could not be found. A few minutes later another lady approached us at the front desk and she then stated "oh that reservation I canceled it" and I then asked her why when we are here. She said we don't hold reservations after 15minutes, must I remind you it was 5 mins after and still she repeated the statement before. How petty could she have been...five minutes come on. Not to mention, she was embarrassed to say she had already cancelled the reservation when I sent my message prior to the present conversation. With the staring contest upon us, she then tells the hostess to check us in and she begins to seat us at the furthest table in the corner as possible! How disappointing and rude of the server. As she begins to seat us, she then says you ONLY have an hour as we have other reservations.....AS IF I DIDNT HAVE ONE EITHER! A joke I tell you! I then asked for a glass of water for my child and I. We then proceeded to leave. I don't respect or honor that type of behavior nor mannerisms. I don't care how famous or popular a place is. Customers is what keeps the business running. Nasty nasty nasty... I don't like dissing restaurants, but I have to speak up on this one. The whole experience was poor, from the waiter who botched our order, to the lackluster food and drinks. The fish over jambalaya dish was dry af and bland. The jambalaya was more like dry fried rice or dirty rice at best..and super salty too. Whatever they are serving is NOT jambalaya. Small restaurant but a really cool ambiance. We split several shareables (arancini, beignets, corn bread), a fried catfish nugget sandwich, and the gumbo with friends. We even got some sweet beignets for dessert! The staff was very kind. Some of the food was unfortunately a miss in terms of flavor and value, including the savory and sweet beignets. September of 2024 I landed in Chicago for my daughter's Navy graduation, Yes my baby is a United States Sailor. After making our way through the city from Navy Pier on foot we finally decided on this resturant, and I have to say hands down Chicago has some of the best tasting food, except their pizza. Omg I got teary eyed saying goodbye to my steak. It was literally the best steak of my entire life. Service was so amazing. The interior was like nothing I'd ever seen for a resturant and they have a lounge downstairs with live music. The drinks are a 6 out of 10 but all I cared about was the food. I took my Mother here yesterday for a Pre-Mother's Day Brunch. The greeter Sophie is sooooo sweet, and personable. Donnie was amazing, our servers I forgot their names but they were great! I had the shrimp skillet BEYOND 10/10 the seasoning, HUGE shrimp , a few vegetables....so yummy for the seafood lovers. My Mom had a breakfast platter along with a side of grits and listen the grits are a flavorful type of grits. We thoroughly enjoyed an early evening dinner here recently. The space is dark and woody. Music was New Orleans jazzy wonderfulness, and the decor consisted of rotating old timey Mardi Gras photos. Fun, fun, fun! The craft cocktails here were terrific. I recommend the "Bayou Margarita" with mezcal for its fresh, tangy smoke flavors. Came in with my wife past 7pm on a Thursday night. Not super busy and dinner service winding down. Wife had the Jambalaya, a bit too spicy for her, but very good. She liked it as it wasn't "runny". I had the Seafood Gumbo and much I thought it was awesome, just the right size and not just a bunch of rice thrown on top. Full of seafood and sausage. The added fresh beignet was like a dessert! I also had the yummy Bourbon Street Old Fashioned which hit the spot. Our waitress was nice and attentive until the very end as she had some friends at the bar it appeared :-) The walls had cool framed TV screens with some period pictures that made things interesting. Came here for happy hour and had a great time! We arrived just a bit before the end up happy hour (around 5:40) and were able to get seated and put in a full round of happy hour items. The happy hour menu includes discounted house cocktails and frozen drinks (frozen marg or hurricane), and a nice selection of small plates and shareable items including a 50% discount on all of their regular menu shareable plates which are basically appetizers. To drink, my wife got the bayou margarita which was refreshing and a bit fruity, while I got the $6 happy hour old fashioned which was a steal and didn't skimp on the alcohol. We split a bunch of food including the happy hour wings and fries plate, one savory and one sweet beignet, Cajun chicken arancini, cornbread, and off the normal menu a cup of gumbo. The chicken wings were a half order which means only 4 wings, but they were surprisingly big and fried until crisp outside but juicy inside. The chicken arancini were interesting, with a creamy savory filling but most of the flavor came from the thickened etoufee sauce they're served with. The gumbo was pretty watery and didn't seem to have a good roux for a base but was spiced and seasoned well, pairing well with the rice and the savory beignet it comes with. The real standouts, though, were the cornbread which came with a huge portion of 5 big chunks all glazed with an addicting honey butter sauce, and the savory beignet which came with a cup of their addicting creamy intensely savory crawfish cheese sauce. Aside from the gumbo, I only ate from the happy hour menu so I can't comment on the full dinner service; the cocktails seem a bit pricy but the dinner options looked and smelled good when the diners around us ordered them. However, the happy hour options alone are definitely worth a visit! read more

It just wasn't it but we didn't say anything, we just kindly put them to the side to be picked up, but the waiter noticed and offered us something else which I thought was a marvelous gesture. We ended up just getting 2 more savory beignets lol For apps we got the shrimp & arancini balls which both were tasty. Came for restaurant week with a friend and overall would love to come back to try their regular menu/specialty cocktails. The ambiance is spectacular; very intimate in a cool cocktail bar kind of way. We agreed that it would be a great place to stop in and just have a few drinks as they have a really long bar and an interesting cocktail menu. The drinks were some of the highlights of the night for us and they had some happy hour specials so we indulged in a margarita and a Mojito, which were both great. Our server and the service was great, but I do think there were some timing issues within the kitchen that soured a bit of the experience for me. We were there for restaurant week so we ordered all four courses at once, which is pretty standard for any restaurant participating in restaurant week. However, all of our dishes came as they were done instead of leaving space for us to actually finish before the next one. At one point, we had our soup, appetizer, and entrée all on the table at one time and that was probably 10 minutes after ordering. By the time I was able to get to my appetizer, it had been sitting for a while and was at room temperature. The restaurant week menu was 60 dollars per person so it wasn't a cheap meal and I expected a bit better all around for it. We both got the French onion soup, which was fairly underwhelming. There were shreds of cheese within the broth itself and no layer on top and didn't really have any substance to it. We had the bbq shrimp for an appetizer and I didn't get bbq at all. The shrimp were still cooked really nicely and tasted good, but the sauce was more of a tomato sauce than anything resembling barbecue. I had the gluten free jambalaya pasta for my main and it was fine. It tasted a bit bland overall and felt like a pasta dish I could get anywhere. I appreciate that they have actual gluten-free substitutes instead of just eliminating ingredients that contain gluten! The highlight of the night was actually the gluten-free brownie, which was very tasty and soft, which is often hard to come by in gluten-free desserts. The place is very cramped inside the establishment and the hostess seemed to not find my reservation at first and said we can sit at the bar and told her to check again and miraculously she found it and we were able to sit down. One entree came and then next one came out literally 40 minutes later. The next entrée we were too upset about that. also, we came for a restaurant week to come check out this restaurant, but definitely will not be coming back to this restaurant at all in our server. We were highly upset about the wait for this food that my boyfriend was too upset and didn't want to eat it. The food seemed very lackluster like they didn't really care. The ambience in the restaurant seemed very lively, but still very cramped at the same time. also, I was very shocked about how gratuity was already in there for almost 25% and made that bill go extremely high so that really kind of change some things about the restaurant. So is this like a food Palindrome? Three of us got crawfish étouffée. Where is that on the menu you ask? Well it ain't. But ask and ye shall receive. Already peeled and skinned and on top of rice. I had never had étouffée before so I was blown away. I did New Orleans all wrong when I was there. My other coworker that I would refer to as a food enthusiast got the creamy Cajun linguine.
