(Sorry I am a bit tipsy atm) lol:) We had a power outage in DuPage County so we are staying at our place downtown because we had zero power and thus, had to discard 2 refrigerators of rancid food (i keep a freezer full of mostly varied berries that I grow in my garden and my Tree Beeries that I have cultivated) Anyway this place serves quite delicious Hashbrowns (vegan by default - they use oil not butter) My husband has a sweet tooth and the cavities to go along with it and he ordered Chocolate Chip Pancakes plus a side of a bacon omelet with Hashbrowns It is pretty challenging to mess up American Breakfast and I was able to get potato Vitamins A and Vitamin C and 5% of my daily Potassium along with Fiber for less than 150 calories Service at a very early 5am (my natural wake up time) was excellent! My family and I have visited Griddle 24 a few times over the years and we've ordered pick up twice. It's okay food, open 24 hrs and it's in the neighborhood so it's convenient. Today I ordered delivery from the website and upon delivery I was given the wrong food. I called the restaurant and the lady on the phone was rude. I told her I received the wrong food, she checked the order and she realized the restaurant got the order confused. I ordered a steak skillet, they sent me a half cooked steak. (see photo) She tells me she doesn't have any delivery people available and all she can tell me is sorry. She confused me by saying the website that said griddle24.com is not ran by the actual restaurant so she can't refund my money. I'm VERY upset and I feel like they've stolen my money. I ordered what I wanted, I paid for what I wanted, and at no fault of my own, I can't get the food I ordered nor can I get my money back. They'll never see me nor my family again. Absolute staple in our neighborhood, and for good reason! Living next door, we've become regulars. The menu is just massive, breakfast all day, insanely good boozy milkshakes, and basically anything you could possibly crave at any hour. What we love most is the vibe, I t's a 24-hour spot that somehow still feels like your friendly mom-and-pop diner. Service is always top-notch, attentive, quick, and they make you feel like family even though it's a decent sized space. Rarely any wait, unless you hit that Sunday after church rush, and even then it moves quickly because it's nice and spacious. No cons here: clean bathrooms, great prices, generous portions. I moved to Chicago from the Detroit area. Here, we've got Coney Islands and diners everywhere - ANY of them have better tasting food than Griddle 24. I've tried this place twice, maybe 6 months apart, most recently coming back in November I believe. Just no. For the price, the food is so greasy and I always leave disappointed. I hate to leave a bad review because the staff are always so kind, I just can't justify spending another penny at this place. I feel like diners are sometimes hit or miss but this was definitely a HIT! Came with friends after a night out and everything we got was super filling. The portion sizes are massive, so be prepared to EAT or take leftovers home. I got the Popeye Scrambler without spinach. Pancakes came on the side and it was super filling. I'd definitely recommend. Other people we came with got pancakes and the other scramblers - everything I tried a bite of was really delicious. We were able to sit immediately and our server was pretty attentive considering how busy the place was. It was impressive to witness the volume of orders being handled by the staff. They seem to have an efficient system, but it can lead to incorrect orders. In our brief time there, we saw a few being sent back from wait staff, including mine. I ordered the Española omelette, sans cheese, but my request was mistakenly omitted. After receiving the correct order, it came back undercooked and lacking any discernible flavor. The chocolate chip pancakes were of perfect diner quality--crispy edges and chock full of chips. It's always open and that means you can come at any time figuratively and literally. The place typically gets busy in the morning because they have massive choices including omelettes. Also it's great for late night munchies after having fun. May seem like a surprising place to get vegetarian choices but they have these. It's about $16 for the Impossible Burger. We each got this while I left the cheese off, but got it with avocado and the choices of sides. A lot of entrees to look through on the menu. There's pasta as well as sandwiches like paninis. Get here literally whenever you want to because it's always open of course. It's located close to the Chicago Avenue Brown Line station. I've been coming to this same breakfast spot for years and eat here multiple times a week for work meetings or with my family. It's a great mom and pop 24hr diner where the staff will actually get to know your name, and you can sit in a cozy booth with friends or family. Their breakfast deals are phenomenal (check out the 2x2x2; or my favorite the Popeye's Scrambler). My wife typically enjoys the corned beef hash & eggs or a Reuben. Pancakes are a must. We sometimes come as a family for dinner after the kid's sports games and I love their $12 dinner specials (especially the chicken kabob plate) while my kids always just get the Mickey Mouse pancake. I love a good diner and griddle 24 is exactly that. When we arrived there were a lot of people waiting. You have to put your name on the waitlist and be present inside the diner to get a seat. They are a bit soft at most places, but somehow the Griddle managed to make them crispy like regular fries. Maybe they double fry them? This was the star of the show. Fantastic breakfast! The countryside skillet was packed will food. You can easily split it or get 2 meals from it. It was the first time I've also had a restaurant make their hashbrowns crispy. My husband devoured his burger so it must have been good. He also like his chicken noodle soup. Drinks: They serve beer, wine and cocktails at this establishment. I had ordered a basic meal of burger and fries and everything tasted straight from the freezer. If it weren't 4 AM and I was starving, I doubt I would finish my meal. I work near Griddle 24 so I find myself here multiple times a week. They have fresh soups daily (I highly suggest the chicken and rice or the French onion). This is a traditional diner with a two page long menu of great options and specials. It also visually looks like an older diner (not like the 1950s style diners). The service is always top notch, I recommend Maria the waitress if she is there. But all of their staff are incredible. The food here is also good, it's consistent no matter what you order. Comes out within 6-9 minutes on average which beats the average restaurant during rush hour for most! Of note they do have a slight 0.60 cent charge for carry-out per dish so be aware of this going in! Their to go packaging is always great, we've never had a problem over six months of going there. read more
