Frank provided me with a quote of $1,800 on June 8, 2026, for my popcorn ceiling removal project. We discussed the scope of work multiple times to ensure we were on the same page, and the appointment was confirmed for June 19, 2026. Based on that agreement, I stopped looking for other contractors and arranged my schedule around the project. However, the night before the scheduled start date, Frank informed me that he would not perform the work unless I paid $2,500 instead of the originally agreed $1,800. When I asked for an explanation, Frank stated that he thought I would be giving him additional projects in the future, such as electrical work, flooring, and other home improvement jobs. While I may have mentioned that I have other projects around the house, I never agreed to hire him for those projects, nor was the $1,800 quote presented as being dependent on receiving future work. Our discussions and the Yelp referral were specifically for the popcorn ceiling removal project. If the quoted price depended on additional future projects, that should have been clearly communicated before the quote was given and before the appointment was confirmed. I feel it is unfair and unprofessional to increase the price by $700 less than 24 hours before the scheduled start date after we had already agreed on the project terms and date.
