I hired Mariano for a garage renovation and some plumbing repairs earlier this year. While he started the project, it has now been over six months of delays, excuses, and unfinished work. The Situation: Unfinished Project: A significant portion of the garage work--including flooring, lighting, and final finishes--was never completed despite being paid for. There is also a tiling project that he had done, but needs to be redone. Out-of-Pocket Costs: After months of waiting for a plumber who never showed up, I eventually had to hire an outside professional to handle urgent repairs at my own expense. Broken Payment Plan: In September, we mutually agreed on a refund amount to cover the unfinished work and shared plumbing costs. Absolutely fantastic! Mariano repaired an extensive amount of stucco damage at my dad's house, fixed a ton of termite-damaged wood, and re-painted the entire exterior. He even threw in a few small repairs that were beyond the original scope of work. He has been extremely communicative and transparent about everything. We had some minor delays on account of the weather, but that was obviously no fault of his. When the weather turned bad, Mariano was very open with me about the revised schedule, and was able to still get everything done under budget and on-time. His team has been very gracious about dealing with a couple of very large dogs that were always getting in the way, too. I appreciate the consistently good follow-up to all my messages and texts. I have been able to rely on almost immediate feedback to all my questions. Everything has been amazing on this complex project! We had Mariano and his crew complete 2 projects for us. He stained two sections of our fence on 2 different occasions (100 ft section and 80 ft section). Mariano and his crew are very friendly, respectful and his pricing is very competitive compared to most places that try to gouge you. I would highly recommend his services. He gets really busy and booked up though....so sometimes it's a struggle to get on his calendar. I would recommend booking him early for your projects. 1 year later, it would be nice to get my deposit back Mariano initially came out for a baseboard install and some work on electrical outlets. I had to call him several times just to get the estimate which should have been the first red flag. The total for all the work was $1330 (Labor) On 10-30-20 I paid him $350 for a deposit when he removed the old baseboards. On 11-13-20 he completed the electrical work and said he needed an additional $760 since he's picking up the baseboards I ordered, and they were ready for paint/install. On 11-18-20 he showed without the baseboards and said he needed to measure the area again. He offered to install a hood that had just been delivered. I paid him and his partner $125 for this install. On first use, it did not pull any of the smoke from the stove. A buddy of mine came over and pointed out that they didn't do the ducted work properly, and he explained that this is what I get for dealing with unlicensed professionals. I never even brought this up to Mariano because I didn't want it to impact the remainder of the work negatively. Well, it didn't matter because I would call and text, and he didn't respond. Then I would call again, and he would assure me he would come out to finish the job. He would say things like "next Tuesday" and then not show up. I dealt with this for several months. I consider myself a flexible person, and I even asked if he would like me to have someone else take the job over if he's too busy. He assured me he would complete it, and it's not a big deal. Looking back, I have paid him $1,110 of $1,330 and got around $600 worth of work. I have no problem with Mariano, but I am extremely disappointed at his lack of professionalism and communication. I consider his work "average," and I felt like he rushed to get through tasks at my home. He preferred to be paid through Zelle and would assure me he would send a payment notice (which he didn't). I went back on my bank statements and was able to pull up the payment totals and dates for this review. I had to find someone else to complete the work, and I had to pick up the baseboards myself. A year later, he has completely disappeared and has not returned my deposit. I hope people who read this are not desperate enough to hire this handyman as he takes advantage of his customers. read more

I'm only giving this guy one star because there's no negative stars to leave. He left some of his tools at my house. He also didn't replace any of the switch plates in the bedroom. I specified that I wanted the nail holes filed before paint went on and none of that was done either. For what he charged me I expected a lot more professional work.
