Hello Steve Appliance, I wanted to let you know that the contractor you recommended to me through our Yelp conversation, Frank, has been very unprofessional throughout this process. Frank provided me with a quote of $1,800 on June 8, 2026, for my popcorn ceiling removal project. We discussed the scope of work multiple times to ensure we were on the same page, and the appointment was confirmed for June 19, 2026. Based on that agreement, I stopped looking for other contractors and arranged my schedule around the project. However, the night before the scheduled start date, Frank informed me that he would not perform the work unless I paid $2,500 instead of the originally agreed $1,800. When I asked for an explanation, Frank stated that he thought I would be giving him additional projects in the future, such as electrical work, flooring, and other home improvement jobs. While I may have mentioned that I have other projects around the house, I never agreed to hire him for those projects, nor was the $1,800 quote presented as being dependent on receiving future work. Our discussions and the Yelp referral were specifically for the popcorn ceiling removal project. If the quoted price depended on additional future projects, that should have been clearly communicated before the quote was given and before the appointment was confirmed. I feel it is unfair and unprofessional to increase the price by $700 less than 24 hours before the scheduled start date after we had already agreed on the project terms and date. 2/5/24 After searching numerous places, I chose Steve's appliance repair for my old Whirpool fridge. The freezer stopped working, and I need an immediate diagnostic to see if I can still save it. I have several businesses who responded to my search but I chose Steve's because they offer a $65 diagnostic fee, which can be applied towards a repair. My decision was based on their price being more affordable compared to others; their Yelp rating is outstanding, and their immediate availability. I sent a message last night, and the company responded with their price quote and the magic words, "I can be there tomorrow." Our scheduled time was between 2-4pm, and Erick arrived at 3pm. Prior to that, Erick texted me to let me know that I would be his next customer. He also updated me of his ETA. Erick checked my freezer and found out there is a leak that's preventing my freezer from freezing. He advised me to get a new fridge as it will cost me more to repair my fridge. The diagnostic took less than 5 minutes. However, he stayed to recommend a company that's selling open box fridge for a discounted price. Erick also offered to pick up and deliver the fridge if I order from that company and in the event they don't deliver. He also told me that he would credit my $65 towards future repair. You can also get $20 off only if you get something repaired and give them a review. I appreciate the honesty of the service and the fact that he did not make me feel rushed. The responsiveness and their immediate availability even during the rain made me feel secure that I'm dealing with professional people. $65 is worth my peace of mind. They came to repair our stove. The igniter was not activating. We got an estimate for $315. They said the part was special order. Never really explained what that part was, except to say that they had a get original parts due to warranty. But I found out from the manufacturer that they no longer make an igniter, module. I then found that part on Amazon for $50. I opened up the stove and found a cut wire. I believe they did NOT cut it, but as soon as I reattached it, the stove worked fine. When I told them, they said they could not simply splice a wire together. And that they prefer to buy all the parts with wires. But in speaking to other repairmen, how I fixed it was just fine. And they never explained what part it was, only to say that they have old catalogs where they shop for parts. They ended up charging us a $65 service charge for coming out to diagnose the problem. Even though I was the one that found it. I think it is so easy to scam people when it comes to appliance repairs. read more
